Need glasses? Going to an optometrist can be a pain and waste the better part of a day. So a company, Opternative, invented an at-home test.

It’s cheaper and more convenient than traditional eye exams. You just need a cell phone and a computer.

But the American Optometric Association wants it banned. They say “it poses significant health risks to consumers” because “it relies on new, self-administered tests” rather than “assessment by an eye care professional.”

Is this new eye test dangerous? Or is it a cheap and efficient eye care alternative?

*** end quote ***

Well, when first I heard of it, I thought about my last eye exam.  It was done by an ophthalmologist; not an optometrist.  He scanned my retina. Reminded me to stay on my RX for high blood pressure that he’d detected more than a decade ago.  As well as, noting that my cataracts had not progressed any further.

So there is a fine point on this.  Although I’m not sure what an “assessment by an eye care professional” would mean if that “professional” is an optometrist?

YMMV, I recommend seeing an ophthalmologist for your annual exam.  It may cost more but it could save your sight and even your life.

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: “SALT” in our wounds

Supreme Court Definitively Ends the SALT Tax Deduction Case

  • The highly dubious lawsuit filed by four blue states against the the law capping federal tax deductions for state and local taxes is now truly dead in the water.

Ilya Somin | 4.18.2022 8:26 PM

*** begin quote ***

As Jonathan Adler points out, today the Supreme Court refused to review a lower-court decision upholding the 2017 tax law’s caps on the federal tax deduction for state and local taxes. The law, enacted by a GOP-controlled Congress, limits this $10,000 for individual taxpayers and married couples filing jointly, and $5000 for married people filing separately.  Jonathan rightly notes that the case never had much merit, which is why it was uniformly rejected by the lower-court judges who considered it (all of them Democratic appointees).

I have followed this case from its inception. The claims the plaintiffs raised about coercion, the Tenth Amendment, and other issues, are important for anyone who follows constitutional federalism issues, and would have set a dangerous new precedent had they succeeded. Here is a list of my posts about it.

*** end quote ***

While I am far from “rich”, having real estate in a “blue state”, I’m impacted by SALT.

i object to the entire concept of the “federal income tax”. The Dead Old White Guys must be rolling over when SCOTUS affirms the income tax and all the host of other confiscatory taxes that the central Gooferment levies on the people.

“We, The Sheeple” are just stupid cowards. The Revolution was fought over the King’s taxes which were a fraction of what we pay today. If the Blue States really had their acts togeter, they’d secede from the Union. If the Red States really had their acts togeter, they’d secede from the Union. There is NO reason to allow Washington to run our lives with one size fits all Gooferment policies.

Time has come for everyone to go their separate ways.

“Would you tell me please, Mr. Howard, why should I trade one tyrant three thousand miles away for three thousand tyrants one mile away? An elected legislature can trample a man’s rights as easily as a king can.” Mel Gibson as the character Benjamin Martin in the movie The Patriot http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0187393/quotes

We should trade for local tyrants, as opposed to Washington DC tyrants, because we MIGHT be able to convince the locals.  If not, it’s not a far drive to bring the torches and pitchforks.

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Never trust any national government

https://survivalblog.com/2022/04/26/preparedness-notes-tuesday-april-26-2022/

*** begin quote ***

On April 26, 1986, one of the world’s worst nuclear accidents occurred at the Chernobyl plant in the Ukrainian portion of the USSR. An explosion and fire in the No. 4 reactor sent radioactivity into the atmosphere; at least 31 Soviets died immediately. JWR’s Comments: I was unfortunately a Chernobyl down-winder. You see, I was TDY with the 2nd M.I. Battalion at Stuttgart Army Airfield that spring, working live Guardrail intel missions. After the Soviet reactor went kablooey, we were all lied to by both the West German government and the U.S. Army. They later revealed that they had downplayed the radiation risk, “to avoid panic.” So, at the time when the winds were unfavorable and I should have been safely tucked in a bunker, I was instead out riding my bicycle in the fallout. (I commuted by bike a couple of miles from a gasthaus in Echterdingen to Stuttgart Army Airfield.) The only fallout warning that they gave us was to avoid fresh dairy products. Lesson learned: Never trust any national government to have your best interest as their priority.

I think the track record of Gooferments in general is so poor when you evaluate your best interest as their priority.

Watch the Moment a Guy Jumps Out of His Car to Give Umbrella to Couple Stuck in D.C. Downpour

Recently, a random act of kindness in the Nation’s Capital inspired a driver to share the video of a Good Samaritan.

Thousands were inspired by the moment that happened on April 14th, after it was shared on Reddit.

It may look like the woman, who was being drenched on the sidewalk, began holding the umbrella over a covered baby stroller, but upon closer inspection, you can see it was someone in a wheelchair holding a newspaper to cover their head.

Not only did the driver go out of his way, the woman used the umbrella to shelter the person in the wheelchair instead of herself.

TINFOILHAT: The Moskva Riddle — NATO, Ukraine, sabotage, or accident?

The Moskva Riddle
Pepe Escobar • April 23, 2022 •

*** begin quote ***

Martyanov also stresses, “it is impossible to hide the external impact of the anti-shipping missile – one will immediately know what hit the ship. Moreover, to hit and sink such a target as the Moskva one has to launch a salvo and not only two missiles, likely 3-4 at least. In this case, Russia would know who attacked Moskva. Does NATO know? I am positive this event has NATO written all over it, if it is not an internal sabotage which absolutely cannot be excluded at this stage. I am sure if Nebo was operational it would have seen the salvo.”

Which brings us to the inevitable clincher: “If NATO was involved, I am sure we will see some retaliation, after all, as I am on record all the time, US bases in Middle East and elsewhere are nothing more than fat prestigious targets.”

So get ready: something lethally “asymmetrical” may be about to pop up.

*** end quote ***

Now here’s a good question for a “Conspiracy Theory”.  Apparently, there are four good alternatives for what happened.  It’s seems to be a well proven “fact” that something did happen. But, since I have not touched the hull or have someone reputable touch it, I can’t know for certain.

The author makes a plausible motivation for why NATO might have done something, but that is not evidence.  And, one can’t really expect any reliable dikw (i.e., data, information, knowledge, wisdom) from Russia on the topic.

The whole Ukrainian tale about sneaking cruise missiles in while the crew was distracted by drones seems less likely.

So we just have to wait and see what “leaks” out.

GOVERNACIDE: If there is a silver lining to this grotesque charade, it is our growing awareness of the moral bankruptcy in our government, our media, our medical institutions

Connecting the Dots on Early COVID Treatments
By Antonio R. Chaves

*** begin quote ***

As you may well know, hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) and ivermectin are among the most frequently mentioned drugs for early treatment of COVID-19. Both drugs were originally used to combat tropical diseases like malaria (HCQ) and river blindness (ivermectin). What follows is a very brief history of how they were repurposed for treating COVID-19

*** and ***

Whether or not you believe HCQ and ivermectin are effective early treatments is beside the point: Both of these generic drugs are considered safe for pregnant women and many nations sell these drugs over the counter.

Given that there is no moral or scientific basis for this unprecedented disruption of the doctor-patient relationship, why are the CDC and FDA doing this? Why do some dying patients need to resort to a court order to access alternative treatment?

*** and ***

If there is a silver lining to this grotesque charade, it is our growing awareness of the moral bankruptcy in our government, our media, our medical institutions. Most importantly, it has shed light on how easily massive segments of the population can be frightened into blind obedience.

If you still believe the lockdowns, mandates, and medical recommendations were hammered out in good faith, I have some Moderna stock to sell you.

*** end quote ***

It seems fairly obvious that Big Pharma got a huge payday and the Gooferment, the politicians, the bureaucrats, the media, and medical institutions were in on the scam.

I don’t think that “We, The Sheeple” even today have any clue as to how badly they were fooled.  And, the long term effects have yet to be seen

And, I’m sure I’ve mentioned that EVERYONE  — regardless of age  — needs a will, a durable complete function power of attorney, a medical power of attorney, as well as an advance directive.  If an attorney says one size will fit all, get another attorney.  If someone says “do it yourself online at http;//… …”, get your legal advice from someone with a valid law license in your state and who specializes in estate law.  Don’t fall for the 99$ advertisements either.  Doing it correctly will entail at least two visits to a lawyer and a few hundred dollars in legal fees.

P.S., the will should have “self-proving” affidavits.  If it doesn’t, find another lawyer.

P.P.S., the lawyer as part of the fee should “vault” your original will for you and just give you copies.  One of which is for your executor.

P.P.P.S., Do NOT put these papers in a safe deposit box in YOUR NAME.  It’ll be sealed on your death.  I paid for my executor to rent a save deposit box in her name and my stuff is in there.  Easy cheap work around.

First Priority — Avoid US War With Russia

Asked if the U.S. should send troops to fight beside the Ukrainians, Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., said Sunday the time may have come.

Russian President Vladimir Putin “will only stop when we stop him,” said Coons.

“We are in a very dangerous moment where it is important that … we in Congress and the administration come to a common position about when we are willing to go the next step and to send not just arms but troops to the aid in defense of Ukraine.”

*** and ***

As U.S. forces fighting and killing Russians in Ukraine would ignite a U.S.-Russia war, which could escalate to nuclear war, we are not going to take that first step and risk the security and survival of our country, even if our staying out of this two-month war means the defeat of Ukraine.

Call it the Eisenhower position.

I often agree with Pat Buchanan and this time is no exception.

I would point out that the USA overthrew the elected Government in the Ukraine when it was pro-Russia.

I would also point out that the USA via “Voice of America” encouraged the Hungarian revolution and then (once again) “hung the poor dupes out to dry”.

The USA should just stop being the instigator and MYOB!

Oh BTW, Chris Coons should go put boots on the ground; not “our” young women and men.

A Staggering Number of Athletes Collapsed This Past Year

Story at-a-glance

  • The shocking statistic was revealed by One America News Network (OAN), which also found the average age of the athletes who suffered cardiac arrest is just 23 years old
  • An updated report by Good Sciencing, a team of investigators, news editors, journalists and “truth seekers,” has detailed 890 cardiac arrests and other serious issues among athletes, including 579 deaths, following COVID-19 shots
  • With cases like these becoming impossible to ignore, even a mainstream media sports channel in Australia speculated that the health issues could be linked to COVID-19 shots, and one of the hosts acknowledged that multiple players have suffered from heart issues and Bell’s palsy following COVID-19 booster shots

More than 769 athletes have collapsed on the field during a game from March 2021 to March 2022. The shocking statistic was revealed by One America News Network (OAN), which also found the average age of the athletes who suffered cardiac arrest is just 23 years old.[1] The unprecedented surge in cardiac arrest and other heart issues among elite athletes coincides with the rollout of COVID-19 jabs.

The Miami Open made headlines in early April 2022 after 15 players — all of whom had reportedly received COVID-19 injections[2] — dropped out. Among them were favorites Paula Badosa and Jannik Sinner. Badosa left the court in tears after becoming unwell, and Sinner’s opponent said he saw him “bend over” on the court, noting “it was very strange.”[3] Even the fans were confused, with one stating, “What is going on?”[4]

As Pearson Sharp of OAN explained, “These are just two of more than 769 athletes who have collapsed during a game, on the field, over the last year.” He continued:[5]

TECHNOLOGY: Banks should have a better security system on checks

A friend got a check “washed” that had been mailed in a drop box, altered, and cashed.

Needless to say, they didn’t even conceive of such happening.

I suggested a few follow ups on what to do.

First and foremost, immediately file a police report.

He’d notified bank and changed accounts Updated on the credit reporting agencies (transunion, experian, equifax, etc).

Then, he’s going to notify all the places he hold accounts.

Argh!

I think IMHO the banks should have the ability for account holders to “pre post” the checks they write with the check number and amount.  In effect, “write” it twice — once on paper and once on line.  Then if the check gets altered, the bank will no to reject it.  Seems simple enough to me and would be a great “value added service”.  I’d think it would be real popular with business.  After all the bank’s bill pay is almost that already.

How Fully Private, No-Insurance Hospitals Help the Common Man

How does one make an economic decision when the price of a good is not evident? To any adherent of the Austrian school, this of course is impossible. There is no way to decide whether to purchase something if the only way of knowing the price is after committing. For example, who would fill up their car only to see what the price was at the end? No one. In no aspect of life would this make sense, yet it is the standard in the American healthcare system.

**

In June 2021, the Mises Institute held the Medical Freedom Summit in Salem, New Hampshire, and one of the speakers was Dr. G. Keith Smith of the Surgery Center of Oklahoma, an institution that is truly free market and receives no money from the federal government. He spoke of the successes of his business and of the simple model he and Dr. Steve Lantier established in 1997. Smith describes their first patient experience as follows:

*** and ***

He later told the story of a Georgia man who was quoted $40,000 for his surgery at home. The Surgery Center of Oklahoma quoted him $4,000. Upset at having lost a patient to them already, the man’s hometown surgeon decided to match the price. The patient told Dr. Smith that the Surgery Center of Oklahoma “had saved him $36,000 and … hadn’t even performed his surgery.”

Once again we learn that the Gooferment has really really messed up “health”, “health care”, “health care insurance”, or something else like our lives.

Just separate “health insurance” from employment by making health insurance premiums deductible from the top line, just as it is for businesses, and level the playing field.

Musk revealed last week that he had become Twitter’s largest shareholder, with a 9.2 per cent stake. Now he’s offered to buy the whole company for a cool $43 billion, a nice premium on its current worth. As it stands, Twitter’s board is resisting and America’s great and good have gone berserk.

Confessions of a Miles Chaser

I used to be one of those Miles Chasers. I’d spend an hour looking for a way to earn miles so I could get the equivalent of $8 in miles. Somehow, it never registered that I was giving myself a job at $8/hr. The sadder thing is that the work didn’t really benefit anybody or build anything. It was as productive as doomscrolling through Facebook. Unfortunately, Miles Chasing is a hard habit to break because of the scarcity mentality that’s so common to fiat money: You can take the miles from my cold, dead hands.

*** end quote ***

I was once a “miles chaser”, but I never bought into the credit card offers and other ”extra miles” gimmicks.

I had a job at AT&T where I was doing database trying for a new footprint side roll out.  I had to visit an absurd number of cities in — as I remember it — in 8 week window.  The United plan had some number of miles and “segments” for a few week in Hawaii including free round trip first class tickets for two people.  Getting miles was the “easy part”; segment were much harder. Reading the “rules”, a non-stop counted as one segment, but stops along the route counted as segments. Since I was allowed to chose my flights, I took the roll out schedule and figured out how to do the training and collect the required number of segments. Laugh!  (Just tell me the rules and I’ll figure it out.)  So I was doing two cities a week Monday / Tuesday in City #1 and then Thursday / Friday in City #2.  So Sunday night I went Trenton to Pittsbugh to O’Hare then proceeding to City #1. On Wednesday I’d fly from City #1 to City #2; non-stop unless I needed more segments. And finally on Friday night, inbound to home from City #2 to O’Hare, Pittsburgh, and Trenton. Laugh!  No problem. Then Frau Reinke and I went to Hawaii via LA and San Fran with side trips to Las Vegas and Reno.

Made it all worthwhile. Got a great appraisal for doing the training with a raise, bonus, and promotion. No much of a life for those 8 weeks but everything in life was a trade off.  I even got kudos for “saving travel money” since the price of direct flights at the time was about triple my connectors.

It was a great “life hack” and I learned to always study the rules.

Laugh!

I never used or collected “miles” after that.

Laugh!

Why the New World Order Wants Programmable Currency

Technocracy is the proverbial operating system for the “superclass,” a centralized global elite that is working toward securing the exclusive ownership of all the world’s assets, reducing the rest of us to indebted serfs. While the plans for a NWO based on technocracy, i.e., The Great Reset and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, are clearly outlined on websites like that of the World Economic Forum (WEF), and world leaders are using these terms on a regular basis, when people point out the nefarious meaning of these terms, they’re typically dismissed as loony conspiracy theorists. 1 But the NWO is no conspiracy theory.

Bitcoin Songsheet: Airline Miles Are The Original Altcoins

  • Airline miles are the original altcoin, allowing zombie companies to issue value for nothing while encouraging people to be “Miles Chasers.”

Jimmy Song
Apr 11, 2022

*** begin quote ***

Because governments view airlines as a display of national prestige, there’s a tendency to bail them out of their troubles. The three major U.S. airlines (Delta, American and United) have gone through at least one bankruptcy in the last 20 years. The bankruptcy proceedings usually result in a merger or some new company that’s injected with government funds. Even airlines that might go bankrupt are bailed out by the government such as during the travel shutdowns of the pandemic. The result is that airlines are now zombie companies that repeatedly get revived through government intervention.

Zombie companies typically don’t do that well in the marketplace. It’s no coincidence that air travel times are slower now than in the ‘70s. Planes might be more fuel efficient, but they’re not really faster or more convenient. The way these zombies have survived, besides government intervention, is through the financialization of their miles programs.

*** end quote ***

One really has to see the link between bailouts and inefficient zombie companies.

Real competition between financially healthy airlines would make air travel faster, more convenient, as well as “cheaper”.

The DHS / TSA “airport security” is “security theater” at best and further allows zombie airlines to shift costs to the public at large.

Argh!

HEALTH: Eat your blueberries … every day?

Blueberries Can Improve Artery Function

If you eat blueberries week after week, you also get chronic benefits, in terms of reduced artery stiffness and a boost in your natural killer cells, which are one of your body’s natural first lines of defense against viral infections and cancer. How can blueberries have all these amazing effects if the anthocyanins—the blue pigments in blueberries purported to be the active ingredients—hardly even make it into our system? Indeed, women were given more than a cup of blueberries to eat, and the researchers couldn’t find hardly any in their bloodstream or flowing through their urine.

At 2:47 in my video, you can see a chart called a chromatogram. The spikes show all of the anthocyanin peaks in blueberries. Before eating blueberries, there is no sign of the pigments in the participants’ blood, which makes sense because they hadn’t been ingested. After one hour of eating them, however, you start to see the spikes appear, and, a few hours after that, they become a bit more distinct. All in all, though, just a few billionths of a gram per milliliter show up. So, “either anthocyanins are extremely potent and, therefore, active at low serum [parts-per-billion blood] concentrations…or their dietary occurrence or bioavailability has been underestimated.” Researchers decided to radioactively tag them and trace them throughout the body.

Folly of the fob: Skyrocketing car thefts more proof that old metal keys were better

I agree.

It’s funny when I switch cars and look for the start button to press in the truck.

Force of habit and a lack of mindfulness.

How many people still walk around their vehicle and look underneath before driving?  I was taught to look at each of the tires reporting the .  Yes, I’m older than dirt!  Was driving long before tires reported they were flat.

It’s like the habit of opening the (left) driver’s side door with your right hand.  And visa versa.  (With distracted pedestrians on the sidewalk, one has to look out for those fools as well. Argh!)

FWIW.

BITCOIN: Bitcoi … … makes sanctions quite ineffective

SANCTIONS AGAINST RUSSIA POSE A CONUNDRUM FOR BITCOIN
Bitcoin is a free and open monetary network, accessible by anyone — which makes sanctions quite ineffective.

Almost half of Russia’s $630 billion reserves have been seized by foreign governments since the invasion of Ukraine. It was relatively easy to do given modern financial infrastructure.

The mainstream temptation is to react favorably to this move. Russia will be poorer and so less able to fund its war. The baddies lose, the goodies win.

*** and ***

The Bitcoin community risks confirmation bias by not thinking through the full implications. It would be naive to think there is only upside. They say Bitcoin changes people; that it is “F-you money” and with it you are no longer beholden to anyone. But what if the person, or the government, with bitcoin needs to be held down. What then?

Maybe I’ve become to cynical of all the politicians and bureaucrats.  I wouldn’t assign labels of “baddies” or “goodies” to anyone.  Just a lot of gray.

That being said, I think — as the Canadian Truckers demonstrated — “We, The Sheeple” should be more afraid of “our” Gooferment than some one a great distance away.

Company’s Innovative Smart Beehive Gets $80 Million in Funding to Save Bees From Any Hazard

*** begin quote ***

The traditional hive most commonly used in the world today (the Langstroth box) was designed by humans about 150 years ago. Most people are so used to them they mistakenly confuse them with bees’ natural habitat.

By completely redesigning the beehive, a company called Beewise was able to address many of the inefficiencies of the box and significantly improve bees’ well-being and life longevity.

I found this fascinating.

And, an example of replacing a 150 year old solution with an improved one.

400$/month? Too rich for my backyard.

Maybe a GoFundMe could put one in a park as a way of “helping”?

TINFOILHAT: Did Will Smith Smack Chris Rock on Behalf of Big Pharma?

https://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2022/04/06/big-pharma-advertising-at-all-time-high.aspx?ui=f9839516412491bb1e06c9e47058c6fb81b9b9b6acedf03e65e93dfdb263c1b9&sd=20210317&cid_source=dnl&cid_medium=email&cid_content=art1ReadMore&cid=20220406_HL2&mid=DM1147686&rid=1454211325

Big Pharma Advertising Dollars Are at an All-Time High
Analysis by Dr. Joseph Mercola
April 06, 2022

  • The drug industry influences and manipulates media through advertising dollars. In 2021, drug companies spent an aggregate $6.88 BILLION on direct-to-consumer advertising (DCTA), up slightly from $6.86 billion in 2020
  • The U.S. and New Zealand are the only two countries that permit DCTA, making media in these countries more likely to have pro-pharma bias
  • The Will Smith-Chris Rock drama during the Oscars may have been nothing more than a subliminal publicity stunt for Pfizer’s upcoming alopecia drug

*** begin quote ***

Over the past year, the U.S. government spent $1 billion of U.S. taxpayers’ money to advertise the COVID jab, which is the most dangerous and least proven drug ever marketed, while simultaneously calling for the censorship of anyone who dared to address the risks of this novel treatment
By law, drug ads must not be false or misleading, must present a “fair balance” of information describing both the risks and benefits of a drug, must include facts that are “material” to the product’s advertised uses, and must include a “brief summary” that mentions every risk described in the product’s labeling. Few if any ads for the COVID jab have fulfilled these requirements

How do you control major media? The short answer — illustrated in the video above — is: through advertising dollars. Big Pharma advertising dominates, making up a large portion of a given media outlet’s revenue, and that funding gives Pharma the power to dictate what ends up in the news and what doesn’t.

While Big Pharma has frequently spent more on advertising than on research and development, over the past couple of years, ad spending has increased to new heights.1

In 2021, drug companies spent an aggregate $6.88 BILLION on direct-to-consumer advertising (DTCA), up slightly from $6.86 billion in 2020.2 And, remember, DTCA is only permitted in two countries in the world, the U.S. and New Zealand, so media tend to be particularly biased in favor of Big Pharma those two countries.

Did Will Smith Smack Chris Rock on Behalf of Sponsors?

Pfizer, Novartis, Eli Lilly, Incyte and Exact Sciences even sponsored the 2022 Academy Awards, which was “an unusual turn for the industry,” according to some biopharma professionals.3 Chances are you heard about how Will Smith smacked Chris Rock across the face. Smith supposedly took offense over a comment about his wife’s lack of hair.

Jada Pinkett Smith has alopecia areata, which is believed to be an autoimmune disorder. Isn’t it amazing, then, that Pfizer, a primary sponsor of this year’s Oscars,4 is working on an alopecia drug? They announced “top-line results” from a Phase 2b/3 trial in August 2021.5

It’s especially curious since three of the other sponsors — Eli Lilly, Incyte (partnering with Lilly) and Novartis — also have alopecia drugs nearly ready to go.6,7,8 Coincidence? Or a cleverly disguised publicity stunt for soon-to-be-released drugs? If the latter, it would put a whole new spin on the concept of subliminal advertising.

Well, here’s a a Conspiracy Theory that needs some watching?

Clearly, like all “good” Conspiracy Theories, it has some plausibility.  Money, motive, opportunity … …. and best of all it has “that’s just crazy” defense.

I’ll have to dig out my “conspiracy theory” ruler to measure how to label this.

Remember my 2010 taxonomy on conspiracy theory: (1) Government; (2) Political; (3) Historical; and (4) Miscellaneous. S0 I may have to add a “Commercial” category.

Can’t find my conspiracy theory ruler.  Guess I’ll have to reinvent it. Argh!  The scale would go from “Generally Accepted As True” all the way to “Generally Accepted As False” with “tab stops” at “unlikely”, “plausible”, “possible”, “less likely than not”, “more likely than not”.  I welcome input on my scale.

For this one, I’d assign it a label of “plausible”.  I take no opinions but would like to see evidence (i.e., a Pfizer email; a check to the parties involved).  Rumors and innuendo can move it on the scale.
