How, When, Do We Come Together Again?
Pat Buchanan • August 16, 2022

*** begin quote ***

Nor is it only clashing morality that divides us.

For a nation, a country, a people, a democracy to endure, there needs be a broad consensus of belief, culture, custom and politics.

On the issue of law and order, without which a republic cannot stand, there is now disagreement over the role and conduct of our police.

Has the great experiment run its course?

*** end quote ***

Yes, inho

FROM LUDDITE:

Not sure it has “run its course yet”, but it surely can be seen on the horizon. Too bad, since it could have worked great indefinitely, I wonder what analysts will say at the end about what could have been done to keep it from failing?

True. I point to the killing of the black churches and families with LBJ’s “Great Society” welfare rules. It created 4 generations of welfare farmers.

Upon reflection, Brion McClanahan points to the “Civil War” aka “The War of Northern Aggression” as the transformation from A Federal Republic to a monolithic “identify nation”.  Hard to argue with him.  (His credentials are vastly superior to mine.) The downward spiral certainly started there and just kept sliding at an accelerating pace.  Destroyed the churches.  Destroyed the civil society.  Destroyed the mutual aid societies.

Sadly.

First Priority — Avoid US War With Russia
Pat Buchanan • April 22, 2022 • 900 Words • 29 Comments • Reply

*** begin quote ***

Asked if the U.S. should send troops to fight beside the Ukrainians, Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., said Sunday the time may have come.

Russian President Vladimir Putin “will only stop when we stop him,” said Coons.

“We are in a very dangerous moment where it is important that … we in Congress and the administration come to a common position about when we are willing to go the next step and to send not just arms but troops to the aid in defense of Ukraine.”

*** and ***

As U.S. forces fighting and killing Russians in Ukraine would ignite a U.S.-Russia war, which could escalate to nuclear war, we are not going to take that first step and risk the security and survival of our country, even if our staying out of this two-month war means the defeat of Ukraine.

Call it the Eisenhower position.

I often agree with Pat Buchanan and this time is no exception.

I would point out that the USA overthrew the elected Government in the Ukraine when it was pro-Russia.

I would also point out that the USA via “Voice of America” encouraged the Hungarian revolution and then (once again) “hung the poor dupes out to dry”.

The USA should just stop being the instigator and MYOB!

Oh BTW, Chris Coons should go put boots on the ground; not “our” young women and men.

POLITICAL: Don’t depends upon the USA; countries need their own gold and nukes

Message From Ukraine — Nukes Do Deter
Pat Buchanan • April 12, 2022

*** begin quote ***

What the Ukraine war has demonstrated is the vulnerability of not having nukes.

Taiwan and South Korea, especially, should take note.

*** end quote ***

Pat Buchanan always hits the mark in “foreign policy”.  In this case, countries should be examining just how much or how little they can depend upon the USA.  If I was a foreign leader, then I’d say “not at all”.

Forewarned is fore armed.

PEACE: Hubris was our failing

Is Afghanistan a Failed Mission?, by Pat Buchanan – The Unz Review

*** begin quote ***

As in Vietnam from 1965 to 1973, the year our prisoners of war came home, America did not lose a major battle in Afghanistan.

Yet we did not win the war. South Vietnam was lost.

And contrary to the message awaiting President George W. Bush when he landed on the carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, which was flaunting the banner “Mission Accomplished,” America did not accomplish its mission.

President Joe Biden said as much Thursday, when he responded to a reporter’s question, “The mission has not failed — yet.”

As the 20th anniversary of 9/11 impends, and with it our final exit from the Afghan war, the Taliban are overrunning districts at will, and Afghan troops are avoiding battle in what many see as a lost cause.

Monday, 1,000 Afghan soldiers fled into Tajikistan rather than face advancing Taliban forces.

Why did we not succeed? And what does our failure there portend?

We failed, first, because our initial mission, once accomplished, was altered and enlarged to where it became unattainable.

*** and ***

There never was a vital U.S. interest in Afghanistan worth a war of the cost in blood, treasure and time that we have just fought.

*** and ***

Many who cast their lot with us are going to pay with their lives, as will their families. And the enemies of the United States are likely to be energized by what they perceive, not wrongly, as a strategic defeat of the USA.

We did it to ourselves. Hubris was our failing, as it often is of great powers, the mindset exhibited by Secretary of State Madeleine Albright when she declared: “If we have to use force, it is because we are America. We are the indispensable nation. We stand tall. We see further into the future.”

*** end quote ***

Unfortunately the “peace movement” of the 60’s and 70’s was astroturf against the R’s.

We, little L libertarians, are in that movement regardless of which side of the two-sided political spectrum.

Other than the Quakers, I don’t know who else we can count on to end the Hubris.  Certainly NOT the MIC (Military Industrial Complex).

Let’s cut the “defense” budget 20% and rethink the Dead Old White Guys desire to avoid a standing army.  Shut down the FBI and CIA while disarming the Department of Agriculture.  As a matter of fact, spin the Agriculture budget back to the sovereign States and shut it down completely.

What are the proper functions of the “central” Gooferment? At most “defense” and foreign relations.  Like the Swiss, no one messes with a neutral.

Repeal the Seventeenth Amendment (direct election of senators) and return the State’s power and get the money out of that layer of Gooferment.

RANT: Buchanan’s “It’s all about race now” is on target for as far as it goes

It’s all about race now
by Patrick J. Buchanan
03/30/2012

*** begin quote ***

If it had been a white teenager who was shot, and a 28-year-old black guy who shot him, the black guy would have been arrested.

So assert those demanding the arrest of George Zimmerman, who shot and killed Trayvon Martin.

And they may be right.

Yet if Trayvon had been shot dead by a black neighborhood watch volunteer, Jesse Jackson would not have been in a pulpit in Sanford, Fla., howling that he had been “murdered and martyred.”

*** and ***

For all the abuse he has received, Geraldo Rivera had a point.

Whenever cable TV runs hidden-camera footage of a liquor or convenience store being held up and someone behind the counter being shot, the perp is often a black male wearing a hoodie.

Listening to the heated rhetoric coming from demonstrations around the country, from the Black Caucus and TV talkers — about how America is a terrifying place for young black males to grow up in because of the constant danger from white vigilantes — one wonders what country of the mind these people are living in.

The real America is a country where the black crime rate is seven times as high as the white rate. It is a country where white criminals choose black victims in 3 percent of their crimes, but black criminals choose white victims in 45 percent of their crimes.

*** and ***

Some Sanford police believed Zimmerman; others did not.

But now that it is being investigated by a special prosecutor, the FBI, the Justice Department and a coming grand jury, what is the purpose of this venomous portrayal of George Zimmerman?

As yet convicted of no crime, he is being crucified in the arena of public opinion as a hate-crime monster and murderer.

Is this our idea of justice?

No. But if the purpose here is to turn this into a national black-white face-off, instead of a mutual search for truth and justice, it is succeeding marvelously well.

*** end quote ***

I hope we can get back to the search for “truth and justice”.

Which will probably land us in the middle somewhere. Like the victim was no angel, but probably innocent. And the shooter may have gone over the line by not stopping his pursuit quickly enough, but probably innocent.

And, both “sides” of the issue need to turn down the volume and turn up the understanding.

I think a lot of this tracks back to the “(pseudo) War on (some) Drugs” and the Federal welfare destroying the Black Family and the Black Churches. And, as usual in this blog reflecting a fat old white guy injineer’s opinion, the trouble is with the Gooferment.

Dona Nobis Pacem!
