Former West Wing Actress Allison Janney Cheers Obama, Stumps for Abortion
by Steven Ertelt

*** begin quote ***

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — Actress Allison Janney, best known for her role in the television drama “West Wing,” is stumping for the pro-abortion group Emily’s List. In a fundraising email for the political group, Janney applauds the pro-abortion record of President Barack Obama and asks for donations to support his efforts.

“During the dark days of the last administration, millions of Americans watched Martin Sheen play an intelligent, compassionate president on The West Wing,” Janney says in the email LifeNews.com received. “Isn’t it exciting to have the real thing in Barack Obama?”

Despite his decisions to force taxpayers to pay for promoting and performing abortions in other nations and embryonic stem cell research, Janney claims, “President Obama has set us on a course to move our country in a more hopeful, positive direction.”

*** end quote ***

It’s a real shame. “Liberal” Hollywood types confuse play acting for the real thing.

I’m saddened. She’s a good actress. And, she certainly has the right to speak freely. I just wish she had the same degree of understanding of a very complex issue.

(1) I object to paying for that which I find morally reprehensible. I’m force to fund Obama’s abortion plans.

(2) It’s genocide! Death by government. We’re strangling the life out of the future. I’ve made the argument before what if we have aborted the cure for cancer, the next Steven Hawking, or the future Obama?

(3) Hollywood success doesn’t translate into policy expertise or even common sense. In this case, she equates “West Wing” with the new tyranny in the White House.

(4) Abortion is a policy, social, and personal DISASTER on so many levels. Be best if the gooferment just got out of the debate. And, let the people involved sort it out. Legislating it as a right is just morally wrong!

Old age is often blamed for causing us to misplace car keys, forget a word or lose our train of thought.

But new research shows that many well-known effects of ageing may start decades before our twilight years.

According to scientists, our mental abilities begin to decline from the age of 27 after reaching a peak at 22.

Obama’s Special Olympics gaffe

*** begin quote ***

The truth is that Barack Obama is not cool or hip. Often he doesn’t even seem very bright. He is unable to stand on his own two feet when asked a direct question. Even with his trusted Teleprompter he cannot avoid embarrassment, as the Prime Minister of Ireland saw first-hand earlier this week. He gave the back of his hand to Great Britain with his stupid, ill-chosen gifts to their prime minister — not to mention the abrupt ejection of the bust of Winston Churchill from the Oval Office. He accompanies self-deprecation with insulting retarded children or former First Ladies.

*** end quote ***

I waited to write this post until I had time to reflect on the incident. What I saw. How I felt. And, was it a “big deal”.

When I heard O was heading to Leno, my first thought was that he was trying to distract from what he was doing — making Socialism palatable to the proletariat.

Did it work?

Or, did it give us a further insight into the legislator who votes “present”.

Leno cracked him with the comment about the financial crisis being Timmy’s problem.

And again, with taxing the AIG bonus babies 90%, that the government could do it to any one.

Insightful.

Funny, but Leno showed the emperor’s new clothes.

And, of course, the pièce de résistance, “Special Olympics”.

What an A double Q hole!

Ever seen these “forever children” struggle to dribble a basketball as I’ve seen at many Rutgers women’s half times, or some to even help themselves?

A President. An athlete. A “man”. Demeaning these children. He may have been a high school bball player, but he learned little.

I firmly believe that the Creator, the Universe, or God, gives us these as examples of how blessed we are. That no matter how self-centered one is, seeing one of these struggling heroes, is a lesson in humility.

No, that throw away remark was an insight into the character of the man.

And, he was lacking.

U.N. panel says world should ditch dollar

*** begin quote ***

LUXEMBOURG (Reuters) – A U.N. panel will next week recommend that the world ditch the dollar as its reserve currency in favor of a shared basket of currencies, a member of the panel said on Wednesday, adding to pressure on the dollar.

*** end quote ***

The end of the US Dollar as the World’s reserve currency? That would be unbelievable. “Everyone” said that it could never happen! SO, what happens when it does? Are we on the road to being like Zimbabwe?

Why are we still funding the UN. We should ditch them!

Gold and silver — the Dead Old White Guys were right — The Palladium rounds (i.e., medallions — the Gooferment gets mad if you call them coins. But thy look like coins to me.) at about 300$/oz seem like a bargain. Rarer than Platinum at 1200$/oz.

But, plan for a Carter-like inflation; did you see Carter visited the Obama White House yesterday. Why? To get advice on how to print “Whip Inflation Now” buttons?

Will Obama on Leno distract everyone with how incredibly screwed we are? And what a good guy he is personally.

Humbly, I think he’s drowning us in the deep end of the pool while he tries to distract us. Ain’t gonna work. At least, I’m not distracted as to what this means to us low fixed income folks. I hope it’s not distracting the People or you.

RANT: 90% taxes on employee bonuses

Thursday, March 19, 2009

The House voted 328-93 to approve a bill imposing 90% taxes on employee bonuses from firms bailed out by taxpayers.

The bill would tax bonuses paid by firms that received more than $5 billion from the TARP. The Senate is working on its own plan to try to recoup bonuses.

The House bill is a response to the furor over millions in retention bonuses paid by AIG.

The time of politicians listening to the will of the people has long passed. They are no longer our servants, they are our masters. Masters who demand we continue down the same road that has failed us for years.

What are we going to do about it?

As for me, I have decided to take hold of my future by preparing for very uncertain times. I live debt free. I live within my means. I don’t have the biggest house in town. But I sleep well and know that when they screw things up even worse than they already have, I can pay my bills because I don’t invest in their nonsense. I own land, gold, cash and a very small amount of stock.

I suggest you do the same.

I fully intend to expose and vote against everyone who voted for this foolish bill. Any member of Congress who voted for this bill should never be re-elected. They have blatantly disregarded the cries of the constituents who gave them their jobs. They may have ignored us once without a consequence but not twice.

Shame on whom this time?

Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke has resisted calls from Congress that he release the names of the banks that were recipients of the bailout money the Fed gave to AIG to prevent it from collapsing. The Money Meltdown: A Conversation with Thomas Woods Jr. by Brian Saint-Paul 3/11/09

*** begin quote ***

Q: We’ve had bailouts and stimulus packages, and possibly more of both in the near future. If you were to look into a crystal ball, where are we going to be in 20 years? Where is all of this heading? Will we reach a point of total economic collapse? Or will we wind up as the newest Euro-style state?

It seems to me that the best-case scenario is a kind of European third-way stagnation: high unemployment, anemic growth (if any), and a whole bunch of people scratching their heads and wondering why this is happening. That could be our fate.

Of course, it could be worse. It may turn into something like what Japan endured in the 1990s and beyond — though at least Japan had some domestic savings as a cushion. Or there could well be a complete collapse of the system, with the dollar destroyed. This is all conditional, because it depends in large part on what the government does. Its cure is almost sure to be worse than the disease.

I’d love to think that if a collapse came, people would say, “Obviously, intervention doesn’t work, so let’s try what the Austrians have been suggesting.” But I think instead a demagogue would rise up to say — as usual — that the problem is not enough government involvement, and that he’s going to rescue us.

That’s the most likely outcome.

Failed states and failed policies
How to stop the drug wars
Mar 5th 2009
From The Economist print edition
Prohibition has failed; legalisation is the least bad solution

*** begin quote ***

A calculated gamble, or another century of failure?
This newspaper first argued for legalisation 20 years ago (see article). Reviewing the evidence again (see article), prohibition seems even more harmful, especially for the poor and weak of the world. Legalisation would not drive gangsters completely out of drugs; as with alcohol and cigarettes, there would be taxes to avoid and rules to subvert. Nor would it automatically cure failed states like Afghanistan. Our solution is a messy one; but a century of manifest failure argues for trying it.
*** end quote ***

If I was President O, after releasing my birth certificate, I’d declare that we had “won” the drug war. Consistent with other victories, I’d:
(1) pardon all non-violent drug offenders;
(2) direct all federal prosecutors to stop prosecuting the same;
(3) direct the Congress that they would be in session until they pass a decriminalization of all drug prohibition (the President can summon Congress back into session!);
(4) direct the DEA, FDA, and all federal agencies that they are no out of the “prohibition business”; and
(5) convene WalMart and the major drug companies to a conference at the White House and ask them how they are going to supply the nation with it’s previously illegal drugs.
(Expecting that the drug gangs will now have a FORMIDABLE competitor. Hard to run a gang when WalMart drives your “product’s” price to that of aspirin! And, makes it USP pure.)
Like this is EVER going to happen!

Accordingly, conservatism will return to prominence when it uses time-honored and unchanging free-market principles to address new problems, and when it finds advocates who both are adept at communication with non-traditional audiences (e.g., why it is in the interest of African-Americans to be skeptical of abortion on demand, why Hispanic small-business people need to be wary of intrusive regulations, why Asian-Americans should fear affirmative-action-driven de facto racial quotas at the University of California, why talented teachers should not have to join bureaucratic, ossified unions, why today’s young people should not have to pay off Obama’s annual $1.7 trillion deficits, etc.) and believe in their message’s resonance, without trimming[?] for the applause of the moment.

*** end quote ***

As “conservatism” seeks to return us to the “classical liberalism” of the First American Revolution, a little L libertarian like myself can agree that it’s a good first step.

Unfortunately, for as smart as I feel the DOWGs were, and they were far smarter than I, and more courageous as well, I don’t think we can rewind the clock.

We have to take those “classically liberal” principles and move forward applying them to today’s problems.

Just as the King was rightly opposed as tyrannical, so to must we oppose the new “king” — the overpower all-encompassing gooferment.
