TECHNOLOGY: Why isn’t cable treated like the power company?

Saturday, June 13, 2009

In thinking about the MyFy portable hot spot, why don’t we make telephone and cable like the power company?

The electric company has a meter on the side of the house. Just like water. Sewer is “measured” too. (Input = Output)

So why don’t we make the cable company do it the same way.

Phone has an interface box.

Why do we allow them to dictate how we use our “water”?

Why do we allow them to dictate what hardware we have inside our walls?

Argh!

POLITICS: Obama’s inflation will break the country

Obama’s Plan For A Debt-Ridden Future
By ERNEST S. CHRISTIAN AND GARY A. ROBBINS | Posted Friday, June 05, 2009 4:20 PM PT

*** begin quote ***

In effect, American families would over time lose an amount greater than an entire year of GDP — a blow far more severe than the damage being done to them by the current recession.

*** end quote ***

Between debt and unfunded liabilities, we are falling further and further behind. Sad to say, we can’t even guess how much we pay in taxes. The politicians have succeeded in hiding and burying taxes in every conceivable manner.

When Obama’s inflation starts, it’ll be too late to react.

Gold! The ancient store of value.

There’s a reason that Jefferson and Jackson were against “central banks” like the Federal Reserve Bank and paper money. Those allow politicians and bureaucrats to hide the true cost of their evil deals.

Imagine how they’d be on the hook, if they could NOT silent tax every dollar in the world with inflation?

Like withholding and corporate taxes, everything gets hidden from view.

POLITICAL: “Signing” standards

Presidential signing statements are bad – only if Bush did it
Rick Moran

*** begin quote ***

President Obama has issued more signing statements at this point in his presidency than George Bush. And yet, the crickets are chirping in the media and on the left for all the stink they’ve made about it.

*** end quote ***

Of course, there’s no liberal bias.

Signing statements on their face are unConstitutional.

The fact that we have different standards for different sides of the political aisle.

TECHNOLOGY: MiFi 2200 portable EV-DO router

MiFi 2200 portable EV-DO router

Technology is the summation of hardware and software. It’s VERY very expensive. This unit intrigues me because what COULD it replace?

Home cable internet service? The Verizon Wireless Broadband USB plug? Cell phones?

The solid trade offs are: ISPs charge 50/month — with hidden caps. The VWBBIE is 70/month.

The soft trade offs are: one or more cell phones. The darned home land line.

The question is what are the true costs of the “MyFy”? Capital, operating, 4 hour battery life.

Home has two computers on a Wifi. But only one user … me.

Would it support Skype, Gizmo, SIP, and such?

Lot of questions.

Biggest problem is I have no clue as to what’s my home byte count on a daily or monthly basis.

And, I hear the Sprint commercials with unlimited usage.

Too many questions and an unknown TCO.

Argh!

Buchanan’s Necessary Book by Laurence M. Vance

*** begin quote ***

Buchanan’s conclusion will be a tough one for some to swallow: “It was Britain that turned both European wars into world wars.”

Churchill, Hitler, and the Unnecessary War is a necessary book.

*** end quote ***

History is written by the “winners” and taught in gooferment skools.

It wasn’t until College that I started to really get into how screwed up the world is.

I learned more history and economics from the Libertarian zealots and Social Justice faculty than most folks.

All war is fought by the common man. He’s the cannon fodder.

There’s a reason why the world’s elite eschew assassination, they might have to take some personal risk. We couldn’t have leaderless gooferments now could we?

Fifth generation war won’t observe that nicety.

Sheeple need to read this book and see how their ancestors were hustled. Then, they could avoid how they are being defrauded and abused.

ABC News: The Note
Palin vs. Letterman
June 11, 2009 8:11 AM

*** begin quote ***

Klein ABC News’ Rick Klein reports:

Gov. Sarah Palin and her husband, Todd, are swinging back at David Letterman, after the talk-show host made the Alaska governor and her family the focus of a series of off-color jokes.

*** and ***

But it was a line in Letterman’s monologue that set off a firestorm: “One awkward moment for Sarah Palin at the Yankee game, during the seventh inning, her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez.”

Palin was in New York with her 14-year-old daughter, Willow.

*** end quote ***

Letterman should get a suspension like Imus.

CBS used have standards!

We haven’t heard from Alex Rodriguez.

If I was Alex, I’d really be torqued.

If anything, he goes for older woman. Phyllis Diller might be more appropriate for Alex. He was “friends” with Madonna.

I’d like to see him nose2nose with Letterman.

Letterman wouldn’t have the stones to say that to Alex’s face. Nor, the Palins.

RANT: Response to a socialist

Thursday, June 11, 2009

>Hey, I’ll take your worthless Federal Reserve Banknote money off your hands.

I’m sure that you would. You liberals will “TAKE” anything! And, your typically big gooferment thugs will be more that happy to rob people of the wealth to satisfy the mob’s demands.

>Are all libertorians anti-union? What a silly question, of course they are.

Of course not. Honest unions that seek to represent their members in fair negotiations with employers are just exercising people’s rights of association. When they use the guns of gooferment to rob the bondholders of their proper settlement, then they are just as bad as the thugs they employ. (Before you say that the bondholders “agreed”, permit me to point out the 52% that did agree were big banks that were getting TARP money anyway. How could they not agree? And, they were being paid off anyway!)

>Basically, libertarians are pro rich, pro management and anti-working class.

If anything, little L libertarians are pro-working class. We want liberty and honest money. And, peace. Take a look at the casualties of war. It’s the poor and working class.

>shouldn’t workers have the right to form unions?

Sure they do. You don’t see L’s rooting for “card check”, minimum wages, or protectionisms.

>Bernie Sanders, a democratic socialist, works for the people and does not take corporate money.

Please don’t make me laugh! He’s a socialist! Maybe even a Marxist.

>Dennis Kucinich, not a socialist, is a feisty fighter for ordinary working Americans.

Dittos.

> I have no idea if it was a good idea to bail out GM.

I do. It was a bad idea for either Bush or Obama to keep GM out of Chapter 11. And, all the money is wasted. It can’t be saved. CAFE standards and all the assorted gooferment actions have made it impossible to make stuff in the US. It’s like giving CPR to a mannequin.

>Millions (including those not directly involved in building cars) will lose their jobs, their health >care and their pensions.

Yes, there will be a lot of breakage. But the UAW voters, … ahh I mean, members will still have their gold plated pensions and health benefits. What happened to the Delta pilots shouldn’t happen to a UAW voter. Sigh! GM was always known as a “health insurance company that made cars”. Argh!

>To only blame government for all our ills and not the free marketeers is just delusional.

It’s the gooferment’s use of force that is the root of most of the evils we are suffering through now. By the way, could you point out the “free market” that you are refering to? I can’t see anything free since the 1860’s.

>Can’t blame unions or the government for the fall of all those financial companies

Sorry, but the seeds of the current collapse is rooted in the easy money of the FED and the Community Reinvestment Act. Barney and Chis, on the dole from AIG and other companies, made it easy for the sheeple to be defrauded.

>ENRON fell because of the corporate crooks not because of unions or the government.

ENRON resulted from the psuedo deregulation of the power industry. Their lobbyist used gooferment to do all sorts of “rule making”. In the end, it all collapsed. And the workers took it in the ear!

>I certainly bash government when necessary, when warranted which is quite often.

You fail to see the force of gooferment (i.e., the often not so silent gun in the room) is at the root of most problems. Our lives would be immeasurably improved it they’d just leave us alone.

WRITING: Nous allons vous rembourser! (An index card novel)

Wednesday, June 10, 2009

It was a no name French village. He was a no name GI. The young girl was huddled with her brothers and sisters in a corner of the basement. Cold. Dirty. Starving. His squad had learned the bitter combat lesson to leave no stone unturned. Snakes can come out to bite. Hidden enemies bypassed kill; they don’t meekly surrender. Many comrades would not be going home who failed to watch their A double Q and, when time permitted, everyone diligently looked for snake dens in their rear. So, his squad found the parentless family led by a strong heroic young woman. A camp stove started warming up the hole in the ground. Calling it a basement implied there was a house over head. What do you call a hole covered by debris? They called it home. Precious blankets were distributed. The gift would warm the men’s hearts more than mere cloth. They’d get replacements; there were always replacements. Food was easy. Rations were always in large supply. Not gourmet, but they prevent starvation. As the squad moved out, the “old” beyond her years girl said: “Bon ami, nous allons vous rembourser!” (“Good friend, we will pay you back.)

+++++

It was a no name village in America. She was a no name French girl. In her proud blue beret, she was there to save the Americans from themselves. World leaders agreed. Troops moved in to quell the violence after the collapse. And, to collect debts long owed. Like the police restoring order to a fraternity party of consumption that had gone on for sixty years. It was not fair. Three per cent of the population consumed half of the world’s stores and wrote bad checks to pay for it besides. Always a proud country, the Americans had shoved their brand of “freedom” down everyone’s throat. But, now the UN was in charge. Sort of. The guns had been collected by the Obamaites. Part of making America safe for politicians, bureaucrats, and criminals of color. So for the most part, her mission was just tax collection and “peace keeping”. Peace was what the masters defined it as. Collecting wealth was easy. The Sheriff of Nottingham had a lighter hand. Time these Americans learned to bow to their European betters. Her squad was surveying the village for resettlement to a reeducation camp. It would be cleared soon. And the ground returned to the Global Ecological Trust. The small young boy was found huddled with his even younger brothers and sisters in a corner of the basement. Cold. Dirty. Starving. Her squad had learned the bitter combat lesson to leave no stone unturned. Snakes can come out to bite. Hidden enemies bypassed kill; they don’t meekly surrender. Many comrades would not be going home who failed to watch their A double Q and, when time permitted, the squad diligently looked for snake dens in their rear. So, her squad found the parentless family led by a strong heroic very young boy. A camp stove started warming up the hole in the ground. Calling it a basement implied there was a house over head. What do you call a hole covered by debris? They called it home. Precious blankets were distributed. The gift would warm the hearts of the gallant squad men and women more than mere cloth. They’d get replacements; there were always replacements. Food was easy. Rations were always in large supply. Not gourmet, but they prevent starvation. As the squad moved out, the children rushed them. Thinking they were going to get hugs of affection and pleadings not to leave, the squad was surprised. Murphy got them. Improvised knives plunged into breasts and slashed throats. Some caress. Some hug. Weapons were seized and a new guerrilla squad would soon be armed. The blue beret-ed squad would not walk away that day. It was essential that the revolution not leave any survivors to report this devastating tactic. Soon, too soon, the “young boy” would either be killed, or too old to slip beneath the radar. He’d cross that bridge when he came to it. As the “family” moved out to deliver their arms booty to waiting men, they would then once again make themselves “unarmed” and vulnerable; setting another deadly ambush. Living to fight another day. To kill. How many more tyrants? How many more ambushes? Before their luck would run out? The “young boy”, now an “old man”, old beyond his callendar thirteen years, said to the many cooling corpses: ‘Récupération de la pute, salope!” (Payback’s a bitch, bitch!)

In its perennial quest to justify its existence and the $7 billion of our taxes it annually wastes, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is up to its usual tricks at American airports. Nor do these heartless bureaucrats care about the ruined lives that litter their wake. Neither kids nor US Marines are safe from their abuse, either.

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Supreme Court has cleared the way for Chrysler’s sale to Fiat, turning down a last-ditch bid by opponents of the deal.

A federal appeals court in New York had earlier approved the sale, but gave opponents until Monday afternoon to try to get the Supreme Court to intervene.

WRITING: Behind Every Blade Of Grass (An Index Card Novel)

Tuesday, June 9, 2009

General Sanchez and Colonel Achmed were in fits. The invasion hadn’t gotten off to a very good start. The coordinated bio / nuclear attack had been an initial success. Biologicals — the West Nile Virus’ more virulent cousin — had decimated the population. The invasion needed to wait a week for it to die out. It was estimated that only a tenth of the population had natural resistance. The high altitude energy pulse destroyed all electronics. In that week of quarantine, all semblance of government and society was expected to collapse. There were forty similar invasion forces aligned on all four sides. Muslim, Spanish, and Chinese — all aligned to rid the world of the largest imperialist power. It had all been planned and executed without a single electronic communication. Human couriers didn’t allow the Great Satan’s “intel” in on the surprise.

The Mid Atlantic task force showed up at the appointed time and place. A small seaside beach community on an island just off the mainland. Operations began at 0800 local; delayed two hours as the fleet was waiting for an unexpected fog to lift. Such were the fortunes of war. It didn’t. The motorized landing craft began their runs. Over the dead land, the noise was unmistakable, a wake up call, and call to arms. Someone uninvited was coming.

Unbeknown to the invaders, many survivalists and prepers had planned their bug outs to go to the seaside. Fish, birds, and water. The fish could be caught to supplement; birds trapped. Seawater desalinated by sunshine. Surprisingly, while not friends, there was a modest amount of trade and mutual assistance in the week following the troubles. A rather small island had a surprisingly large number of survivors.

The fat old man was the only survivor on his block. His family, that bugged with him, were buried in the backyard. He heard the engine noise from the sea and thought of Private Ryan. He grabbed his M1A and his ammo and went to a nearby condo. He had forced the doors open scavaging earlier in the week, so it took no time to get to the third floor front, open a window slightly, and start firing at the beach. He could hear he wasn’t alone. About 30 shots in 30 minutes resulted in an anti-tank rocket ending his resistance.

The Greatest Generation had a few tricks left up their collective sleeve. A bunch of loons at the American Legion had a ceremonial howitzer. It wasn’t so ceremonial. They took out the bridge off the island. The VFW had a half-track. It didn’t run any more, but it’s machine gun did. A whole company of invaders found that assumptions about no resistance could be deadly as an 80 year old gunner and and 79 year old feeder got a whole lot of joy out of remembering an old skill.

On the beach, a General and Colonel were getting reports of fierce resistance from survivors. A woman, a child, old vets! Suicidally fighting for no good reason. Leaderless. Without hope. Individuals, pairs, small teams. Damn fog. They couldn’t risk close air in it for friendly fire. The recon found the bridges to the mainland down. That really snafued their plan. As the general signaled the withdrawal, the radio reported many similar failures. Who’d have known that urban drug gangs would turn into such fine light infantry? With automatic weapons too.

Just about that time the American Legion artillery and the VFW scouts had coordinated their efforts. It was their land after all. And, plotting a location with coordinates was a handy skill to have. A runner with a walker “ran” them back. The “location plot” team took out a few more. The American Legion howitzer sent the General and Colonel a special “Welcome to America”. A lucky shot? Devastatingly lucky! Murphy is always around. In this case, the spirit of Audey Murphy. Maybe Sargent York too. As the General lay dying, he thought back to a famous Admiral, awaking a sleeping tiger, and riflemen behind every blade of grass.

Who Wrote Dreams and Why It Matters
By Jack Cashill

*** begin quote ***

While waiting for America’s publishers to find their nerve, I had put my research into the authorship of Barack Obama’s 1995 memoir Dreams From My Father on the back shelf. But then I heard Chris Matthews.

The Hardball host was weighing in on the subject of Sarah Palin’s new book deal. “Sarah Palin – now don’t laugh – is writing a book,” sneered Matthews. “Not just reading a book, writing a book.”

“Actually in the word of the publisher she’s “collaborating” on a book,” Matthews continued. “What an embarrassment! It’s one of these ‘I told you,’ books that jocks do. You know she’s already declared, I mean, why they do it like this? ‘She can’t write, we got a collaborator for her.'”

*** end quote ***

What a joke!

Does anyone think that Kennedy, not Theodore C. Sorensen, wrote “Profiles in Courage”?

I had to read that book in high school. And, the good Brother, I forget his name, asked how many believed Kennedy wrote it. Don’t remember the discussion that ensued but I remember it was vigorous. A CINO slipping in below the radar as the “First Catholic President”. Maybe that’s when the brand began to slip! Parents were horrified from what I heard. After his assassination, all criticism was forbidden as he was placed in the secular equivalent of “sainthood”. But like Saint Augustine, the “saint” had clay feet.

So, Obama claims to have written it, but there is a substantive claim he didn’t.

Obama is a lot like Clinton. Very smooth. Too smooth.

The sheeple have been sold a socialist wolf in sheep’s clothing. And, he’s sheering them now.

The Feds Plan To Stick Us With a National Sales Tax (in a Depression!)

With budget deficits soaring and President Obama pushing a trillion-dollar-plus expansion of health coverage, some Washington policymakers are taking a fresh look at a money-making idea long considered politically taboo: a national sales tax.

Democrats Weigh Health Mandate as Obama Urges Taxing Wealthy
By Laura Litvan and Ryan Donmoyer

*** begin quote ***

June 7 (Bloomberg) — President Barack Obama wants Congress to consider taxing the wealthy instead of workers to pay for a health-care overhaul, as House Democrats discuss a plan to require health insurance for most Americans.

*** and ***

The effort to overhaul health-care would affect a sector that makes up 17 percent of the U.S. economy. The goal of Democratic supporters is to provide insurance to most of the nation’s 46 million uninsured, and lower the soaring cost of care. A key challenge is the potential impact of legislation on an already rising U.S. budget deficit that may reach $1.8 trillion this year.

Millionaires Go Missing
Maryland’s fleeced taxpayers fight back.

*** begin quote ***

Maryland couldn’t balance its budget last year, so the state tried to close the shortfall by fleecing the wealthy. Politicians in Annapolis created a millionaire tax bracket, raising the top marginal income-tax rate to 6.25%. And because cities such as Baltimore and Bethesda also impose income taxes, the state-local tax rate can go as high as 9.45%. Governor Martin O’Malley, a dedicated class warrior, declared that these richest 0.3% of filers were “willing and able to pay their fair share.” The Baltimore Sun predicted the rich would “grin and bear it.”

One year later, nobody’s grinning. One-third of the millionaires have disappeared from Maryland tax rolls. In 2008 roughly 3,000 million-dollar income tax returns were filed by the end of April. This year there were 2,000, which the state comptroller’s office concedes is a “substantial decline.” On those missing returns, the government collects 6.25% of nothing. Instead of the state coffers gaining the extra $106 million the politicians predicted, millionaires paid $100 million less in taxes than they did last year — even at higher rates.

*** end quote ***

Does anyone really think these “liberal” politicians, bureaucrats, and media cheerleaders have any clue about human behavior?

Maybe they should get CSI to look into where all the rich folk went!

Idiots.

Read the Austrian School of Economics and you will find “Human Action”. Humans act. Maybe not ALWAYS rationally, but the do eventually. Unlike the frog in the mythical pot to be boiled, rich people have the most ability and incentive to move.

The loss is worse than the unnamed author makes it out to be!

And, who’s more likely to have a business, hire a staff, and have a big property tax bill? Sure not the low and middle class.

And, by turning up the fire, the gooferment may have induced those 1,000 rich folk to jump before the real estate market collapsed. I can here the conversation at the new (Pick one: Yacht, Tennis, or Country) Club now. “Yes, Muffie, I miss Maryland too. But not 16 grazillion dollars worth. Now here’s a new Mercedes SUV that I bought to console you.”

OK, corny, sure, but you get the idea. Ten per cent of a million is 100k a year. That’s the minimum bite. That is a powerful incentive to move.

Makes you wonder why there are 2,000 left. Cal Ripken is probably one. Who else?

So who gets to make up the missing 200k$ that the politicians planned for? You don’t expect them to cut anything, do you?

Ellen Brown is a lawyer. She is anti-Federal Reserve. So, she gets a hearing in conservative circles. This is unfortunate. There is nothing conservative about her. She is an apologist for statism and the United States Treasury (a wholly owned subsidiary of Goldman Sachs).

Her article is about the hyperinflation of Germany, 1921–23. She has no understanding of what happened or why, but she talks as if she does.

Dumb, Dumber And Dumbest by Charley Reese

*** begin quote ***

If you believe in the right to life, then you must believe in the right to have the means to defend that life. Unless you wish to spend years learning the bow and arrow and the broadsword, I’d suggest you join 4 million others and me in the National Rifle Association, lest a bunch of dumb urban politicians put you and your family at the mercy of any wandering criminal.

November 11, 2003

*** end quote ***

True then; even truer now.

Although I’d suggest the Gun Owners of America as opposed to the NRA. The NRA accepts the concept of “reasonable gun regulation”. There is no “reasonable regulation” of ANY right! Either it is an “inalienable right” or it’s something subject to the whim of the Gooferment.

And, about Right to Life, or any “right”, you only have the “rights” that you are willing to fight for and exercise.

(The interesting point about the RKBA is that with concealed carry, you don’t have to carry to get a benefit. See the criminals have to guess who packing and who isn’t. Like sprinkling sheepdogs with big teeth in the flock of sheep. Quite a surprise for the wolves when they guess wrong. See “gun free zones” merely tell criminals that they have nothing to fear. We let the school janitor carry tools; the gun is nothing more than a tool.)

Like that Churchill quote! “…if you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.” -Churchill, The Second World War, vol. 1, The Gathering Storm (London: Cassell, 1948, 272, on the British guarantee to Poland in Spring 1939.

When do the sheep fight? When on the way to the slaughter?

Health Care: Oppose greater government role. Support free market solutions

*** begin quote ***

Please oppose increased government involvement in health care. Please work to reduce government involvement in health care.

We can’t afford to lose what we have by further governmental meddling in health care. Go fix the VA and Medicare before you start messing up something that is at least working.

*** end quote ***

Before you create a worse problem, how about trying some small gentle corrections. How about making medical insurance tax deductible in reducing the gross income right on page 1 of the 1040 just like an IRA contribution? If you’re concerned about the “uninsured”, why not make that tax deduction and refundable tax credit paid directly to an insurance company? Why not offer your congressional health plan to an “uninsured”?

Bottom line, just like we wouldn’t have identity theft without social security numbers, we won’t have medical privacy if you “federalize” this problem. Stay out of our doctor’s office.

Don’t nationalize health care! We’ve seen Canada, England, and the VA. No thanks!

LIBERTY: They did what they were asked to do

*** begin quote ***

The best known D-Day is June 6, 1944 — the day on which the Invasion of Normandy began — commencing the Western Allied effort to liberate mainland Europe from Nazi occupation during World War II.

One thing is for sure, many good men died this day.

Was it worth it? Only history will tell. Only God knows what might have been.

(Remember “It’s a wonderful life”?)

If we as a society truly value our soldiers and veterans, then we would not allow the gooferment to treat them so badly.

Let’s bring the troops home. Now! (Remember I told you that Ron Paul was that only true anti-war candidate.)

Let’s have the courage to demand, and pay for, the VA.

Let’s beware of the politicians who risk our troops for ill defined, venial, or (yes, sometimes) personal reasons.

Remember the 6th of June and all these days that good men died.

MONEY: The absurd claims of a bureaucrat

Friday, June 5, 2009

Acting U.S. Attorney Edward R. Ryan of the Western District of North Carolina said, “When groups seek to undermine the U.S. currency system, the government is compelled to act. These coins are not government-produced coinage, yet purchasers were led to believe by those who made and sold them that they should be spent like U.S. Federal Reserve Notes. Such claims are in violation of federal law.”

I have never read such blatant nonsense.

Yes, the seek to return the United States to honest Constitutional money. At the very least, this is an exercise in political dissent protected by the First Amendment.

And, any REASONABLE person can instantly distinguish between a “Liberty Dollar” and the a paper Federal Reserve Banknote. Silver and gold are very different from paper.

In order to spend them like a Federal Reserve Note, one would have to have the intent to defraud!

Sorry, this is a political indictment intended to chill any inquiry into the nature of Federal Reserve Banknotes.

And, how is it that the Government has departed from money as defined in the Constitution.

Perhaps, we should be asking “Is the inflation of the value of Federal Reserve Banknotes a government “taking” under the terms of the Fifth Amendment?”

Hopefully, people will see this for what it is. An attempt to keep the people blind to the unConstitutional conduct of their government.

FOUR DEFENDANTS INDICTED IN UNLAWFUL COIN OPERATION

Former Executive Director of Liberty Dollar Services, Inc. Charged in Federal Indictment

ASHEVILLE, NC – Bernard von NotHaus, 65, formerly of Evansville, Indiana, and two

additional defendants from Evansville, along with William Kevin Innes, 53, of Asheville, North

Carolina, have been indicted in U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina on

conspiracy and other charges in connection with an alleged unlawful operation to publish,

possess and sell for profit, coins in resemblance and similitude to U.S. coins. All four defendants

are also charged in the alleged conspiracy with uttering and passing, and attempting to utter and

pass, a coin of silver in resemblance of genuine coins of the United States in the denominations

of five dollars and greater, and intended for use as current money. The four are also charged

with one count of mail fraud, while von NotHaus and Innes are both charged in two additional

counts each, with selling and possessing with intent to defraud, Liberty Dollar coins; and with

uttering and passing, and attempting to utter and pass, a coin of silver in resemblance of genuine

coins of the United States of the denominations of five dollars and greater, and intended for use

as current money.

Today’s announcement is made by Acting U.S. Attorney Edward R. Ryan for the Western

District of North Carolina; Owen Harris, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of

Investigation (FBI) in North Carolina, and Van Duncan, Sheriff of Buncombe County, North

Carolina.

Acting U.S. Attorney Edward R. Ryan of the Western District of North Carolina said,

“When groups seek to undermine the U.S. currency system, the government is compelled to act.

These coins are not government-produced coinage, yet purchasers were led to believe by those

who made and sold them that they should be spent like U.S. Federal Reserve Notes. Such claims

are in violation of federal law.”

Defendant William Kevin Innes was arrested on the charges on June 2, 2009, and made

an initial appearance before a federal Magistrate Judge in Asheville today. Innes was ordered

detained pending a detention hearing which is now set for Monday, June 8, 2009 at 9:35 a.m.

before Magistrate Judge David Cayer in the federal courthouse in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Rachelle L. Moseley, 34, Evansville, Indiana

Pending arrest

According to the allegations contained in the indictment, which was returned and filed

under seal by a federal grand jury sitting in Charlotte, North Carolina, on May 19, 2009, since

1998 NORFED, The National Organization for the Repeal of the Federal Reserve and Internal

Revenue Codes, together with its officers, members, associates, and customers (collectively

NORFED), has been issuing, disseminating, and placing into circulation, including by use of the

Postal Service and United States mails, the Liberty Dollar in all its forms throughout the United

States and Puerto Rico. The indictment alleges that the purpose of NORFED is to mix Liberty

Dollars into the current money of the United States, and further alleges that NORFED intends for

the Liberty Dollar to be used as current money in order to limit reliance on, and to compete with,

United States currency.

The indictment alleges that members affiliated with NORFED sell the Liberty Dollar coin

at a greater price than they pay for it, and that the profit for these individuals is the difference

between their discounted purchase price and the price for which they sell the coin. Additionally,

according to the allegations contained in the indictment, a person who is not affiliated with

NORFED pays the face value minted on the coin.

In the allegations of the indictment, Bernard von NotHaus is described as having been the

president of NORFED and the Executive Director of Liberty Dollar Services, Inc. until

September 30, 2008. He is also described in the allegations contained in the indictment as the

monetary architect of the Liberty Dollar and has been the Regional Currency Officer in

Evansville, Indiana where NORFED corporate offices are maintained. According to the

indictment, Bernard von NotHaus designed the Liberty Dollar currency in 1998. The indictment

alleges that William Kevin Innes is the Asheville, North Carolina Regional Currency Officer for

NORFED and one of three members of the NORFED Executive Committee. Also, according to

the allegations contained in the indictment, until around March 2008, Sarah Jane Bledsoe was the

NORFED Fulfillment Office manager in Evansville, Indiana, and Rachelle L. Moseley works in

the Evansville, Indiana corporate office of NORFED and has been employed as the Regional

Currency Office Manager and Chief Operations Officer.

“People understand that there is only one legal currency in the United States. When

groups try to replace the U.S. dollar with coins and bills that don’t hold the same value, it affects

the economy. Consumers were using their hard-earned money to buy goods and services, then

getting fake change in return,” said Owen Harris, the Special Agent in Charge of the Charlotte

Division of the FBI. “No one in this country is above or beyond the law, and our law

enforcement partners will continue to bring violators to justice.”

If convicted, each of the defendants faces a maximum sentence of five years’

imprisonment on the conspiracy charged in Count One and a maximum sentence of 20 years’

imprisonment on the mail fraud charge in Count Two. As to the additional counts with which

von NotHaus and Innes are charged, Count Three (publishing) carries a maximum sentence of 15

years’ imprisonment, and Count Four carries a maximum sentence of five years’ imprisonment.

– 3 –

The indictment includes a Notice of Forfeiture and Finding of Probable Cause that the

defendants forfeit to the United States all of the property involved in the offenses with which

they are charged in the indictment, and all property traceable to such offenses.

The case was investigated by the FBI, and the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office, with

assistance from the U.S. Secret Service, Treasury OIG for Tax Administration, the NC Joint

Terrorism Task Force, and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Acting U.S. Attorney Ryan

express his gratitude to the United States Mint for its role in the indictment. Ryan characterized

the Mint’s role as “significant and vital.” The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United

States Attorney Jill W. Rose of the Asheville Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Western District

of North Carolina.

The details contained in the indictment are allegations. The defendants are presumed to

innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
