Will Radically Different Banking Plans Work?
Not until we abolish legal tender laws
by Betsy Hansen

*** begin quote ***

Because the fiat money system is both the strength and weakness of America’s tyrants. It bleeds the people’s wealth and labor, but it also threatens to collapse under its own weight – or whenever the scales fall off the people’s eyes. With its green engravings of famous Americans, electrons whirling around in bank computers, and loans created out of thin air, it is one vast confidence game.

*** end quote ***

The Federal Reserve Bank (which is none of those things) allows the congress critters, the Administration, politicians, bureaucrats, and their ilk to raise taxes without explicitly raising taxes.

The sheeple can’t even tell what they are paying in taxes. Inflation erodes their “savings” such that the gooferment can steal all their earnings in a given year. Even the worst tyrant of dictator of old used to have to leave the serfs enough to eat from year to year. And, the sheeple don’t even know they are being robbed.a

Imagine the uproar if a President said: “Sorry we have to take everything you earned this year for the good of everyone.” There would be riots in the streets. But the FED can inflate away. Since 1970, inflation has reduced the value of a dollar 97%!

Sheeple, how stupid can you be?

Independence Day? Don’t make me laff!

We’re not independent as long as the FED exists. Andrew Jackson and Thomas Jefferson, were right.

Stock Market Investing Advice for College Graduates by Jim Wang

*** begin quote ***

Imagine you had a time machine and could give yourself just one good piece of advice after you graduated college, what would it be?

*** end quote ***

Eliminate debt. Save more. Go to Law School with the rest of the team. Buy commodities. Move to the country.

“Souldas, wouldas, and couldas”

They will kill you!

Now, my advice would be: “Be an entrepreneur”!

When I was a recent graduate, I was enthralled by Sonny Bloc on the radio. His advice was to buy, and rent out, 12 single family homes within one hour of your primary residence. I understood the objective a secure monthly income. His theory was that after 15 or 30 years of rental income, the rents would then be free and clear. A pension!

In the wisdom of my youth, I saw all the obstacles — downpayments, 3AM calls from angry renters, and hassles. The target thirty years down the road was so far away. I didn’t do it! If I had, I’d be sitting on 12 300k$ “cash cows”. Say 4m$. Throwing off 12 12k$ annually. 145k$. Argh!

Now I see the wisdom of all sorts of things.

So, I’ll modify that advice: “Have a written plan to be an entrepreneur!”

Yes, hindsight is 20/20.

There are other plans in works to clean up the system as well.

Or, could it be that he was undermining their monopoly over “money”.

That stuff they laughable call “money” … Federal Reserve Banknotes.

Paper!

Fiat trash.

No, he was giving people an easy and cheap way to store value.

That couldn’t be “taxed” by inflation.

Imagine how much better the Chinese would be if they had 5T$ of gold as opposed to Uncle Sugar’s little green pieces of paper.

No, anyone who messes with that monopoly, will bring the goons out in force.

Obama’s Plan For A Debt-Ridden Future
By ERNEST S. CHRISTIAN AND GARY A. ROBBINS | Posted Friday, June 05, 2009 4:20 PM PT

*** begin quote ***

In effect, American families would over time lose an amount greater than an entire year of GDP — a blow far more severe than the damage being done to them by the current recession.

*** end quote ***

Between debt and unfunded liabilities, we are falling further and further behind. Sad to say, we can’t even guess how much we pay in taxes. The politicians have succeeded in hiding and burying taxes in every conceivable manner.

When Obama’s inflation starts, it’ll be too late to react.

Gold! The ancient store of value.

There’s a reason that Jefferson and Jackson were against “central banks” like the Federal Reserve Bank and paper money. Those allow politicians and bureaucrats to hide the true cost of their evil deals.

Imagine how they’d be on the hook, if they could NOT silent tax every dollar in the world with inflation?

Like withholding and corporate taxes, everything gets hidden from view.

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Supreme Court has cleared the way for Chrysler’s sale to Fiat, turning down a last-ditch bid by opponents of the deal.

The court said late Tuesday it had rejected a plea to block the sale of most of Chrysler’s assets to the Italian automaker. Chrysler, Fiat and the Obama administration had warned that the high court’s intervention could have scuttled the sale.

A federal appeals court in New York had earlier approved the sale, but gave opponents until Monday afternoon to try to get the Supreme Court to intervene.

POLITICAL: Class Warfare doesn’t work

Millionaires Go Missing
Maryland’s fleeced taxpayers fight back.

*** begin quote ***

Maryland couldn’t balance its budget last year, so the state tried to close the shortfall by fleecing the wealthy. Politicians in Annapolis created a millionaire tax bracket, raising the top marginal income-tax rate to 6.25%. And because cities such as Baltimore and Bethesda also impose income taxes, the state-local tax rate can go as high as 9.45%. Governor Martin O’Malley, a dedicated class warrior, declared that these richest 0.3% of filers were “willing and able to pay their fair share.” The Baltimore Sun predicted the rich would “grin and bear it.”

One year later, nobody’s grinning. One-third of the millionaires have disappeared from Maryland tax rolls. In 2008 roughly 3,000 million-dollar income tax returns were filed by the end of April. This year there were 2,000, which the state comptroller’s office concedes is a “substantial decline.” On those missing returns, the government collects 6.25% of nothing. Instead of the state coffers gaining the extra $106 million the politicians predicted, millionaires paid $100 million less in taxes than they did last year — even at higher rates.

*** end quote ***

Does anyone really think these “liberal” politicians, bureaucrats, and media cheerleaders have any clue about human behavior?

Maybe they should get CSI to look into where all the rich folk went!

Idiots.

Read the Austrian School of Economics and you will find “Human Action”. Humans act. Maybe not ALWAYS rationally, but the do eventually. Unlike the frog in the mythical pot to be boiled, rich people have the most ability and incentive to move.

The loss is worse than the unnamed author makes it out to be!

And, who’s more likely to have a business, hire a staff, and have a big property tax bill? Sure not the low and middle class.

And, by turning up the fire, the gooferment may have induced those 1,000 rich folk to jump before the real estate market collapsed. I can here the conversation at the new (Pick one: Yacht, Tennis, or Country) Club now. “Yes, Muffie, I miss Maryland too. But not 16 grazillion dollars worth. Now here’s a new Mercedes SUV that I bought to console you.”

OK, corny, sure, but you get the idea. Ten per cent of a million is 100k a year. That’s the minimum bite. That is a powerful incentive to move.

Makes you wonder why there are 2,000 left. Cal Ripken is probably one. Who else?

So who gets to make up the missing 200k$ that the politicians planned for? You don’t expect them to cut anything, do you?

Ellen Brown is a lawyer. She is anti-Federal Reserve. So, she gets a hearing in conservative circles. This is unfortunate. There is nothing conservative about her. She is an apologist for statism and the United States Treasury (a wholly owned subsidiary of Goldman Sachs).

Her article is about the hyperinflation of Germany, 1921–23. She has no understanding of what happened or why, but she talks as if she does.

Health Care: Oppose greater government role. Support free market solutions

*** begin quote ***

Please oppose increased government involvement in health care. Please work to reduce government involvement in health care.

We can’t afford to lose what we have by further governmental meddling in health care. Go fix the VA and Medicare before you start messing up something that is at least working.

Before you create a worse problem, how about trying some small gentle corrections. How about making medical insurance tax deductible in reducing the gross income right on page 1 of the 1040 just like an IRA contribution? If you’re concerned about the “uninsured”, why not make that tax deduction and refundable tax credit paid directly to an insurance company? Why not offer your congressional health plan to an “uninsured”?

Bottom line, just like we wouldn’t have identity theft without social security numbers, we won’t have medical privacy if you “federalize” this problem. Stay out of our doctor’s office.

Don’t nationalize health care! We’ve seen Canada, England, and the VA. No thanks!

MONEY: The Gooferment acts to preserve its monopoly on “dollars”

Friday, June 5, 2009

Dear Reader:

This is OUTRAGEOUS. Just as Sadam Hussein of Iraq learned when he suggested that oil be trade in gold, don’t mess with the US’s monopoly on the world’s reserve currency.

(Disclaimer, I think the Liberty Dollar is overpriced versus the spot price of the underlying commodity. But, maybe I don’t understand how expensive it is to mint medallions. They are cheaper than what is offered on the late night infomercials to buy “Liberian Silver” or such nonsense.)

Bernard and the Liberty Dollar folks are threatening to take the country back to Constitutional money of gold and silver. Single handedly! Interesting is they are the size of a gnat on a cow’s butt in comparison to the Federal Reserve. The “establishment” is so threatened as it has to persecute and prosecute them.

See the Establishment can NOT afford to have any one “look behind the curtain”! You might ask the question “What is a dollar?”. That question leads to the more “deadly” question — deadly to their ability to delude the people into allowing the Government have the ability to inflate — “What value does a Federal Reserve Banknote intrinsically have?”. That’s the question that puts a stake thru the heart of the vampire known as the Federal Reserve Bank. Inflation is the silent hidden tax.

(The Federal Reserve Bank is a misnomer. IT ain’t “federal”. It reserves nothing. And, it ain’t a “bank”. It is a private cartel of the elite banks run for their benefit and that of the entrenched politicians. )

(As an aside, just look at the reelection rate of incumbent politicians. And, where they are “replaced”, note that their “replacement” is a member of the opposite “major” party that follows the exact same agenda. And, you wonder why stuff doesn’t change. How can it? The elite are very content with the current system. It’s only the “unwashed” who get screwed. Repeatedly.)

So, the Federal Reserve Banknote allows the politicians to take everyone’s wealth by inflation. So they can have a “welfare / warfare” society and the sheeple don’t even known they are being shorn. In the last thirty years, the dollar has lost more than 95% of it’s purchasing power. Watch the old quiz show “Let’s Make a Deal” and see the price of a new car in the Sixties was less than 5,000 “dollars”. Why does a Government Motors car cost 50,000 now? It ain’t the same dollars. My first house cost 8,000 “dollars” when it was built in the Fifties, why is it worth 350,000 “dollars” now. Did the boards suddenly become more valuable? No, the Government money is worth less and they can’t print houses.

So, here we have the Government desperately trying to reign in the whole concept of “honest money”. There’s an old rhyme “Money has functions four: a medium, a measure, a standard, a store.” See in order to be “money”, it has to be a store of value. The Federal Reserve Banknote is: a medium of exchange (as long as the sheeple believe it to be), a measure (as long as you realize each year it’s different; imagine a measure of length getting shorter every year — giving the Government “more” land to sell), a standard (as long as you don’t mind a standard shrinking every year), and a store (where the rats in congress erode your wealth silently).

That’s why they have to surpress anything that reflects badly upon their “dollar” monopoly.

Forewarned is fore armed!

Subject: FBI Arrests Bernard, Kevin, Sarah & Rachelle

LIBERTY DOLLAR ALERT:

June 2009 Vol. 11 No. 06-A

Urgent News for All Liberty Dollar Supporters!

FBI Arrests Bernard, Kevin, Sarah & Rachelle

The battle for a value based currency has began!

The last two days have been amazing! Just shortly after midnight on Tuesday, the phone started ringing and I let the answering machine take the call. But very soon there was another call… with an even more urgent message! Very quickly, a friend of Kevin Innes, explained to me that Kevin had been “detained” by the local sheriff and was being held for the FBI to arrest him! Holy Cow!! The #2 supporter for the Liberty Dollar and co-instructor at the Liberty Dollar University training sessions was in deep trouble with the Feds! I was sure to be next. But would they arrive in a few minutes or would it be a pre-dawn Nazi style assault?

Finally, I got up at 4:00 AM. I was very concerned for Kevin and wondered when the FBI would hit me. Fortunately the morning was quickly filled with a flurry of calls from Kevin’s friend, other interested parties, the usual business calls and making preparations for the inevitable knock on the door. But nobody came. Then just after noon, Niles, who’s wife, Rachelle, manages the Liberty Dollar Fulfillment Office, called to tell me that Rachelle had been picked up by the FBI at the LD Office and was due to be arraigned in just a few hours! The FBI strikes again!

Luckily, I was able to talk to Rachelle via her cell phone while the FBI was holding her. I was pleased that the FBI agents were the friendly professional types and afforded Rachelle and I quite a few minutes of private conversation. Under the circumstances, Rachelle’s demeanor and resolve was right on target. And very quickly, I learned that a warrant had been issued for my arrest. And just a quickly, Rachelle was off to court to be arraigned.

Much later in the afternoon, I learned to my surprise that three big FBI agents had arrested Sarah at work. She and Rachelle were arraigned together and quickly released to on their own recognizance (OR) before the sun set on a very eventful day for the Liberty Dollar. The quick, professional effort with Sarah and Rachelle were gratifying and encouraging. Unfortunately, I was to learn that Sarah lost her job because of this event.

By last afternoon it was clear that the Liberty Dollar would be best served by my turning myself in to the to the US Marshals, otherwise know as ‘self reporting.’ After a few calls, I found myself talking to Agent Andy (aka Agent F) who was his usual friendly, chatty self. He even recognized my voice although we had only spoken twice and that was over 18 months ago. Sure enough he confirmed that a federal arrest warrant for my arrest had been issued. And after a bit of gamesmanship with Agent Andy, I agreed to report to the US Marshal’s office in Fort Myers, Florida at 9:00 AM on Thursday morning as it was too late to be arraigned, plus an overnight in jail would have wrinkled by clothes :)

The following morning, Thursday, June 3, 2009, I actually arrived at the Marshal’s office at 8:30 due to light traffic. As the saying goes, “If you gotta do time, do federal time.” Quite simply, the federal boys are better educated, better trained and have better manners. I was immediately escorted to a holding cell. After an hour or less, I met with the Pre-Trila Service rep and made it to court at 11:00 in chains and handcuffs. The female judge was businesslike and granted my request to attend my son’s graduation in Physics from UCLA next week. After fingerprinting, signing a $50,000 Appearance Bond, one final meeting with the Pre-Indictment Service rep, I was free.

In general, the arraignment was a pleasant affair. The US Marshals did their job with very little attitude, as they should. After all, I am self reporting, and it is for anything violent, I just want to prove that I have a right to issue my own currency and if any body chooses to use it then it is a “private contract.” It is certainly not a crime.

And so it came to pass, 2009 years after the birth of Christ, that four regular Americans have taken a stand to defend the People’s right to protect themselves from a government currency that has a long and unforgiving history of stealing the people’s purchasing power. This is a test of individual rights, as protected by the Tenth Amendment. It is the deciding moment that a private voluntary barter currency (PVBC) is legal in the great United States of America. This is a test that the Liberty Dollar must and will pass, for that I have no doubt. But it will not be easy or cheap. Please, if you support our efforts, support us with any kind of money you have, including pro bono services. Now that the Liberty Dollar faces a federal criminal trial, it is the US Government v Liberty Dollar ala Bernard, Kevin, Sarah & Rachelle. Please help us win. Please help yourself win. Please help American win.

Very simply this is a Win or Lose battle. In addition to money for this legal fight we need articles that reference non-government currency, such as Air Miles as currency, legal research assistance, expert witnesses, legal assistance, etc. If you support the ideals of the Liberty Dollar, this is the time to get behind the Liberty Dollar. We critically need your help! Please send your digital info to Legal@LibertyDollar.org and your donations of value including other kinds of “currencies” to:

LIBERTY DOLLAR

The best news is that the Liberty Dollar finally has the opportunity to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is legal. Over two years ago I sued the US government for a Declaratory Judgment to resolve the legality issue. And how did they respond, they raided the Liberty Dollar and confiscated over $4 million dollars in gold, silver and cash. The US government has done everything possible to kill the Liberty Dollar! And guess what? It has not worked. The mere fact that the Liberty Dollar is still in business is a testament to your demand for Real Money and the ideals that the Liberty Dollar represents.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your support! Trust me, the Liberty Dollar is not made up of any fat cats. We are all just regular Americans. And we all just want good money, a lot less government and no damn war!

Click HERE for a stilted Press Release by the DOJ. Its three pages with a whopper by Owen Harris, Special FBI Agent in Charlotte who said, “When groups try to replace the US dollar with coins and bills that don’t hold the same value…” WOW what a telling statement of pure spin.

Click HERE for the 13 page Indictment.

Click HERE for Sarah’s Arrest Warrant.

Guess what?! Liberty Dollar still in business and we need more business! As there has been no Cease and Desist Order, Liberty Dollar remains OPEN FOR BUSINESS. Please visit our shopping cart for all the 2009 Liberty, Peace, Freedom, T-Dollars and more. Don’t be bashful or stupid. Silver is going to the moon, just as sure as the US dollar is going to hell with your purchasing power. Now is the time to protect your purchasing with the “inflation proof” currency and help usher in a new monetary model that provides the only proven, peaceful, and profitable solution to the monetary cancer that has infected America.

OUTSTANDING ORDERS: Please rest assured that we will fill all outstanding orders. Yes, after producing a sizable amount of pre-minted Silver Libertys and finally getting current with most orders, we changed mints and are now behind again. We apologize emphatically! Poor and/or slow delivery is not acceptable business. It hurts everyone. And just when we were about to get current again we were arrested. Please continue to support us with your patience too. We promise to get every order out ASAP. But as I hope you can understand, it is a struggle to run a business, any business, in such an environment and fight a major legal battle for our right to protect our purchasing power

The last few 2009 Arrest Dollars. Are you familiar with the Arrest Dollars? Starting in 2007 and continuing through this year the Arrest Dollar is one ounce Silver Liberty that is specially hand hallmarked with a micro “handcuffs” stamp and my federally registered mintmark. Issued only from the day of the raid to today. The last few 2009 Arrest Dollars are currently on the Shopping Cart. After these are gone, they are gone to eBay for much more money.

The 2009 Tea Party Dollar (T-Dollar) is still available and we are still waiting confirmation on the shipment. We are still expecting to have the first batch order in the first 24 HOURS here for the July 4 events. The T-Dollar is still only a buck for an ounce of copper AND you can still get them for 10% discount to they $1 face value for a 100 or more. Hey, they are only a buck… you can’t go wrong. Plus every copper issue has sold out. Get these while you can and help support our legal efforts tooJ

The 2009 Silver Libertys! The backbone of the Liberty Dollar model is the one ounce .999 fine silver Lib! Just in the last few days, silver has bounced back over $16, soon the 30 day moving average will be $16 and the Liberty Dollar will Move Up again to the $50 Silver Base. PLEASE don’t be dumb and buy silver when it is high. Get it NOW!!! Sure it is not $5 per ounce any more, nor will it ever be again. $5 silver is just not possible with the government spending phony baloney fiat money like a drunken sailor. Please order silver now and protect your purchasing power and profit tomorrow!

Stay tuned to the Liberty Dollar News as we vindicate and validate the legality of the Liberty Dollar. Please take an active role in this exciting and profitable time. Don’t lose out. Get involved with the Liberty Dollar to make money, do good and have fun. I am having as much fun in my 60’s and I did in The 60’s and hope you are too.

We are out of money

Obama: Well, we are out of money now.

*** and ***

… …  a number of contributing factors that are more important than others. Among them include:
    1. The abandonment of constitutional money
    2. The expansion of the voting franchise

The expansion of the franchise to include many parties historically denied the vote has had the inevitable, and expected, effect of permitting society’s non-productive members voting themselves the right to obtain wealth transferred from society’s productive members.

Rather than lamenting the national mistakes of the past, Americans who value freedom, liberty and prosperity would do well to look to the possibilities of the post-American future.

JOBSEARCH: Turkeys must plan for “retirement” at 50!

Tuesday, June 2, 2009

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-retirement24-2009may24,0,885521.story

Early retirement claims increase dramatically

Instead of working longer as the economy worsens, more Americans are calling it quits before age 66. The ramifications could be profound for the retirees, families, government and social institutions.

By Mike Dorning

May 24, 2009

*** begin quote ***

Once they lose their jobs, older workers have a harder time finding new ones. On average, it takes laid-off workers 55 and older nearly a month longer than their younger counterparts to find new employment, and the gulf has been growing recently, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

*** end quote ***

I’m much more skeptical than the BLS.

For turkeys (i.e., fat old white guys who had high paying jobs), they must plan, that when they lose their current job (as they surely will), for the contingency that thewill be unable to find another.

Ever!

Not one at a lesser pay. Not one that is “yuckier”. Not one that is “elsewhere”.

No, they may never find another one at all.

That has terrible ramifications.

That means at age 50 or later, what ever you have is all that you will ever get. That means at 50, you may never have health insurance again. That means at 50, you will begin to draw against your “pot of gold” (i.e., your total savings and investments).

You may have to be the Greeter at WalMart to permit yourself the luxury of dining on the expensive dog food.

You may, in fact, be on welfare and / or food stamps in your not-so “Golden Years”.

You may be “medically bankrupt” if you get sick without insurance.

Sacred yet. You should be.

Immediately, turkeys using my not-patented not-copyrighted formula for “job replacement interval” —

{For those, who aren’t aficionados of the Big Turkey’s methodology for calculating “job replacement interval”. Using my patented and copyrighted methodology, you can easily determine how many months YOU will need to find a new job. That is a function of: Annual Salary; the likelihood of a layoff in your company, industry, or skill set; the ease of finding another job in their skill set; their age; and the economy.}

— I’m adjusting the age penalty formula from (Less than 40 is 1; 41 to 49 is 2; 50 to 57 is 3; 57 and up is 4) to (Less than 40 is 1; 41 to 45 is 2; 45-50 = 4, 51-55=8, 51-55=16, 56-60=32, and 61 is 64).

Yes, after 56, I don’t think you can get another job again ever.

My formula may be wrong, but it should serve as a wake up call.

Plan as if there was no job to work at tomorrow. There may well not be.

Freedom, choice, and capitalism will pay a dear price because a group of government bureaucrats, on the receiving end of political favors, will run a major sector of the US economy and foist a prescribed lifestyle upon American consumers.

*** end quote ***

The USA of the American Revolution died during the War of Norther Aggression.

The USA was started on a road to somewhere by WW1 and WW2. The Depression gave FDR the “reason” to start it on the road to socialism.

Now, we have turned to Mussolini’s fascism. The government OWNS businesses. IT ACTUALLY owns the biggest business of the nation — the banks and car makers! By regulation, it owns in fact, the railroads, the airlines, the phone, the drug makers.

What’s left?

MONEY: Calculating the impact of taxes

*** begin quote ***

We need a revolution in this country. Not of violence, but a purging of what our apathy has created.

*** and ***

I work hard for my money. I’m self employed and in this economy I work harder than ever. After all that struggle and hard work I lose over 50% of my total income to the government per year. That is completely unacceptable.

*** end quote ***

May I point out two things that make the definition or calculation of “taxes” harder:

(1) Corporate taxes are passed along for real people to pay. So when I pick up a can of something in the store, it’s IMPOSSIBLE for me to know how much tax I am paying. And, it’s like looking at a mirror with a mirror behind you. The progression is infinite. The can was taxed. The delivery was taxed. The production equipment is taxed. It’s an accounting nightmare.

(2) The money is no longer a “standard of account”. A 1970 dollar is “different” than a 2010 dollar. In purchasing power. It’s inflation by the Federal Reserve. And, it is the “hidden tax” on dollars. It too is difficult to calculate. If you think in terms of dollars, it’s like doing carpentry where this year’s inch is different than last year’s inch. It’s inconceivable. The definition morphs with time. And, it’s deceptive in that it impacts any dollar denominated asset. This means that you can actually pay more than 100% of your income in tax. Have a half million in assets and inflation is 5%, then you are paying a 25k$ in tax. And, how do you calculate inflation. The FED and the gooferment fudge the numbers.

So, we are slaves. We can’t even guesstimate how much we are paying taxes!

LIBERTY: “Too big to fail” is a gooferment failure

Break Up These Banks
by: Mike Lux
Thu Mar 12, 2009 at 17:00

*** begin quote ***

I also fundamentally agree with David Sirota that if these corporations are too big to fail, then they are too big to exist: a proposition also agreed to by the populists and progressives of the late 1800s/early 1900s, by Abe Lincoln, by Teddy Roosevelt, by FDR, by Harry Truman. Progressives of all eras have understood that corporations that grow too enormous threaten our economy and our democracy, and should be woken up into smaller entities that can’t do so much damage when they are mismanaged. The era of bank consolidation has to come to an end, and these monsters need to be broken into smaller companies just like Standard Oil was in the early 1900s.

*** end quote ***

Very good point.

“To big to fail, then they are too big”

It would seem that’s a great principle of regulation!

Wonder why none of the “brains” ever thought of it?

Could it be that the politicians need things big to get political contributions?

MONEY: If You Care About the Uninsured

Friday, May 29, 2009

http://www.reason.com/blog/show/133627.html

If You Care About the Uninsured, Please Drink Budweiser. Or Schlitz. Or Coors. Or Hamm’s. It Doesn’t Really Matter What Beer You Drink, Only That You Drink a Highly Taxed Beer. And If You Really Care About The Uninsured, Why Not Drink a Case of Beer?

Nick Gillespie | May 21, 2009, 7:21am

*** begin quote ***

Is it too late to take it all back, this loose talk about legalizing “vices” and then taxing them?

Some details on a “proposed beer tax” currently working its way through Congress like a kidney stone through Ted Kennedy’s man-parts. It’s all over but the shouting, screaming, and gnashing of teeth:

Consumers in the United States may have to hand over nearly $2 more for a case of beer to help provide health insurance for all.

Details of the proposed beer tax are described in a Senate Finance Committee document that will be used to brief lawmakers Wednesday at a closed-door meeting.

Taxes on wine and hard liquor would also go up. And there might be a new tax on soda and other sugary drinks blamed for contributing to obesity. No taxes on diet drinks, however.

Beer taxes would go up by 48 cents a six-pack, wine taxes would rise by 49 cents per bottle, and the tax on hard liquor would increase by 40 cents per fifth. Proceeds from the new taxes would help cover an estimated 50 million uninsured Americans.

*** end quote ***

And, of course, there won’t be any discussion of:

(1) Why do beer drinkers have to pay for the “uninsured”?

(2) Who is in the 50M “uninsured”? (Young people, people who could afford insurance, illegal aliens, UAW pensioners)

(3) Why is the government in the health insurance business in the first place?

Argh!

Alan Grayson to introduce Paid Vacation Act
By ERIKA LOVLEY | 5/21/09 4:28 AM EDT
The legislation would be the first to make paid vacation time a requirement under federal law.

*** begin quote ***

Rep. Alan Grayson was standing in the middle of Disney World when it hit him: What Americans really need is a week of paid vacation.

So on Thursday, the Florida Democrat will introduce the Paid Vacation

*** end quote ***

Argh!

What about the unemployed and retired?

Surely, it’s only fair that the Federal Gooferment pay them to vacate as well.

Argh!

This is a hidden tax. It’s unavoidable; hence it’s a tax.

This is an intrusion into the the employment contract. Employer offered and employee accepted. Now here comes Mommy Government to stick its nose in.

Does this mean that the Yankees have to give Alex R a week of paid vacation? He’ll just get into more trouble.

Why limit it to 100 person business? Because then we can’t see the damage!

At the margin, how many businesses will it kill. THe ones holding on by their fingernails financially.

Why don’t we give the congress critters a permanent vacation? Never reelect anyone! Ever!!

Buy Yuan and Beware of Boys, Rogers Tells His Daughters
By: Dora Cheok, News Editor | 20 May 2009 | 04:05 AM ET
Say the name Jim Rogers, and these thoughts might

*** begin quote ***

“I own the Chinese renminbi. It’s not that easy to buy and sell the renminbi because it’s a blocked currency. But I own it and every chance I get to get some more renminbi, I do so.” Rogers says.

Will the yuan become the next reserve currency for the world?

That would surely signal the end of the American Empire and the beginning of its financial collapse.

GOVERNACIDE: Government Health Care? Think VA or Medicare!

Thursday, May 21, 2009

I suggest EVERYONE get active. Hillary tried to nationalize Healthcare; Obama is back to try again. I don’t know about you but I’ve seen the VA’s health care and Medicare. Canadians come to Buffalo for MRIs; it’s well documented that by the time a Canadian can get their “free” MRI, cancers have had time to metastasize and kill people. England has a booming “medical tourism” industry where the English go to India and the Far East for cheap medical care that they can’t get at home. Don’t forget that medical care is the classic economic service with an inelastic demand curve. (Demand isn’t very responsive to cost.) So, the only way that the government can control demand is with rationing. If you think that dealing with Insurance Companies is bad, try dealing with the Government. Sorry, the current system has problems, but imho they are caused by government at the State and Federal level. They have the FDA a captive of the drug companies, the AMA restrict who can “practice medicine”, and the Pharmacists have a monopoly on dispensing drug. Plus don’t forget the psuedo drug war. Sorry, but I need quality medical care for spouse. Remember, if Fritz had been in England, then he’d have been too old for dialyses. Rationing, like gas lines, will kill people. And, once “it” is started, like Social Security, Medicare, and the Medicare Drug Benefit, there will be no way to stop it. And, future generations will go broke paying for it. Argh!

How to Stop a Healthcare Hijack
By J. Robert Smith

*** begin quote ***

Stop an arcane parliamentary maneuver – “reconciliation” – and the odds improve at stopping the Democrats march toward socialized medicine. But Republicans can’t do it; not alone, anyway. It’s up to the legions of Tea Partiers and average Americans to win the fight.

Reconciliation is aimed at dramatically restricting debate and banning filibuster on budget-related matters. It allows for a simple up or down vote. Senate Democrats are keeping it as an option if progress lags in recasting healthcare as a government-run enterprise. A good bet is that they’ll invoke it. Why?

Because a thorough public airing and extensive Senate debate will expose the Democrats’ plan for what it is: a demolishing of the doctor-patient relationship in favor of a politician-bureaucrat driven system; and a system all about rationing.

Democrats are quick to say that Republicans used reconciliation when they were the majority. That’s true, but it was used principally to get up or down votes on lowering taxes, not upending a huge portion of the nation’s economy.

LIBERTY: We need nuke power to be free!

Death of a Civilization
by David Deming

*** begin quote ***

While Western Civilization sits confused, crippled with self-doubt and guilt, the Chinese are rapidly building an energy-intensive technological civilization. They have 2,000 coal-fired power plants, and are currently constructing new ones at the rate of one a week. In China, more people believe in free-market economics than in the US. Our Asian friends are about to be nominated by history as the new torchbearers of human progress.

*** end quote ***

Al Gore and his liberal pals will kill us.

We should be building nuclear reactors for power like there is no tomorrow. There won’t be. Why can France do it, but we can’t?

RANT: Obama’s healthcare; no better than Hillary’s!

Climb
Conservatives must have the courage to defend their convictions.
By Mark Steyn
Is conservatism over?

*** begin quote ***

It’s a mountain, and it’s getting steeper. Promises of “free” government health care will make more voters susceptible to the blandishments of the nanny state. The Democrats have plans for talk radio and the Internet that will diminish conservative voices. Another retirement on the Supreme Court, and the First and Second Amendments will start getting nibbled away. Obama’s buddies at ACORN, already under investigation in multiple states over fraudulent voter registration, will have a prominent say in the 2010 census.

But, when the going gets tough, you don’t, as General Powell advises, “move toward the center.” You move the center toward you, as Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher did. It’s harder to do it that way, but if it’s a choice between more government and more taxes, or more liberty and more opportunity, I’ll stick with the latter, and so should the Republican party — however difficult it is. Unlike Colin Powell, conservatism does do mountains.

*** end quote ***

Anyone, who is even thinking of being fooled by Obama / Hillary Healthcare, shoudl consider:

(1) We have a working model — the VA healthcare system. Ask any vet!

(2) Will the politicians be using it? Probably not!

(3) Where is the money coming for this? Remember in every college economics class, medical care is used as an example of an “inelastic” demand curve, infinite demand without regard to cost. If medical care is “free”, demand will be “infinite”. So there will be rationing and waiting. Look at England where old people don’t get dialysis. Look at Canada, the wait for an MRI allows cancer to be fatal. (Reminds of the VA where vets are convinced their VA docs want to kill them to reduce the demand!)

(4) Forget privacy. THe government will know everything,

Name one thing that the government does acceptably?

How stupid are we?

*** begin quote ***

This is a backdoor tax because a tax was not passed. You did not have money stolen out of your paycheck and didn’t write them a check but they in effect reached into your wallet and bank accounts and via a loss purchasing power you were essentially taxed.

Insidious backdoor taxation. Coming to you very soon!

LIBERTY: Schiff on the Chrysler bankruptcy

Monday, May 4, 2009

Peter Schiff on the Chrysler bankruptcy.

In a seven minute video, he makes some excellent points: turing Chrysler into the Post Office or Amtrak while trying to keep the jobs. Unfortunately, those resource tied up in Chrysler must be freed up. And, the government’s bankruptcy court will be at the end of it all the government’s bankruptcy court.

I agree that we have to stop the government from guarantying things — car warranties is another unwarranted intrusion.
