INSPIRATIONAL: Even “casual caring’ can be enough to help in a terrible situtation

She Was About to End it All, Until a Stranger She’d Never Meet Told Her ‘Don’t Jump’
By Andy Corbley – Sep 18, 2023

*** begin quote ***

“I was sobbing and crying and working up the courage to just go through with it, because I knew at that moment that it was going to make everyone’s lives better.”

At that moment, a driver, whose face Belmont didn’t see, and whose hand she would never shake, passed over the bridge and hollered out of the window.

“Don’t jump,” they said.

It immediately clicked a lightbulb on in her head; that if a stranger could care enough to speak up, then suicide was not the answer.

*** end quote ***

Help is available call or text 988.

I’d have preferred if the driver stopped and talked her “down”.  But, maybe that would have had a worse effect?

I always thought that suicide for a young healthy persons was just FEAR (i.e., False Evidence Appearing Real).  And, the Bible tells us, as one Christian Brother to my class, that “leaving the game early is against the rules.  That’s why football has the ‘Hail Mary Pass.  There’s always hope.  Or in the case of the opponents of Notre Dame, the next game!”.  Maybe a little sacrilegious, but in a funny memorable way.  We all have to just put one foot in from to the other, day by day, until we reach the finish line.

I wrote in my Magnus Opus: “My love, were it in my power, I would sadly grant thee this boon. But, we have to continue to follow His Plan for us. Let’s go forth and speak no more of this. Who ever is last will be last. It will be His choice; not ours. We’re but humble custodians of His temple on earth. It’s not our place to trump His plan. Whatever that plan be, know that I will be with you to my last breath.” — character “John” in CHURCH 10●19●62 Volume 2 Page 399

And, I really believe that to be true.

TECHNOLOGY: SafeStop allows members of the public to video chat with police

WeHo drivers able to video chat with deputies during traffic stops

  • With traffic stops carrying potential life-and-death stakes, a pilot program using SafeStop intends to lower the temperature, allowing drivers and officers to communicate virtually before meeting face-to-face.

*** begin quote ***

A new smartphone app may do for law enforcement interactions what telemedicine has done for doctors.

The app, SafeStop, allows members of the public to video chat with Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies before the in-person traffic stop, which the app developers said will “de-escalate traffic stops and transform police-motorist interactions.”

Traffic stops in particular have become a point of contention in the ongoing cultural discussion around the role of police in American society.

Multiple deadly encounters between police and civilians began as simple traffic stops, including the high-profile killing of Philando Castile by Minnesota police.

*** end quote ***

I like the concept.

Perhaps if the app was always on, then it might be more useful and wiser friendly.

I’m thinking like Star Trek “open up a hailing frequency”.

I’m not sure I would want to be fumbling with my phone on a dark night when the police want to speak to me.  I was always taught to shut the car off, turn on the inside light, roll down the window, keep my hands at 10-2 on the steering window, and shut up.

Still seems like the best advice.

VOCABULARY: Samizdat – translates as: “We publish ourselves”

American Pandemic ‘Samizdat’
COMMENTARY
By Jay Bhattacharya
September 21, 2023

*** begin quote ***

Censorship existed even before literature, say the Russians. And, we may add, censorship being older, literature has to be craftier. Hence, the new and remarkably viable underground press in the Soviet Union called samizdat.

Samizdat – translates as: “We publish ourselves” – that is, not the state, but we, the people.

Unlike the underground of Czarist times, today’s samizdat has no printing presses (with rare exceptions): The K.G.B., the secret police, is too efficient. It is the typewriter, each page produced with four to eight carbon copies, that does the job. By the thousands and tens of thousands of frail, smudged onionskin sheets, samizdat spreads across the land a mass of protests and petitions, secret court minutes, Alexander Solzhenitsyn’s banned novels, George Orwell’s “Animal Farm” and “1984,” Nicholas Berdyayev’s philosophical essays, all sorts of sharp political discourses and angry poetry.

*** end quote ***

Had the experience in typing school

— My sainted Mother’s idea to keep the “idle hands” from being the Devil’s workshop one summer when I was to young to get a real job and too old to be left alone without getting into trouble. It included: business accounting, shorthand, composition, and letter writing.  Argh!  And you wonder why I hate schools?)  — were we had timed typing tests with only three pages of onion skin and carbon paper.  If we corrected a mistake, the carbon copy made it obvious.  I still remember minus five points for a mistake on the original and minus one for a correction.  When I complained, my Mom sat down at an old manual we had at home a pounded out the test page at an amazing WPM without a single mistake.  Then she turned to me and asked: “Now want to complain about shorthand?”  I knew to shut my mouth because she had her secretarial school medals in her “hope chest” when she was best of class in various disciplines.  Guess the genes failed because I never was as good as her in those skills. Sigh! Sadly  —

Have to admire the dedication to the produce the manuscripts.  Like the Irish monks duplicating texts by hand during the Dark Ages.

My 90-minute American Airlines flight turned into a 9-hour hell — but a miracle happened

By Jane Herz

Published Sep. 21, 2023, 9:27 a.m. ET

*** begin quote ***

American Airlines flight 5085 was scheduled to depart at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 18. But when Conley looked at his phone and saw that the time was 6:30 p.m. — about a half hour after the plane was originally supposed to land at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) — he knew something was awry.

That’s when the pilot told passengers that the plane was diverted to a small airport in Wichita Falls, Texas, due to a severe impending storm, as DFW was not allowing landings or takeoffs.

Rather than disembarking upon landing at 6:45 p.m. at Wichita Falls Regional Airport, Conley and his fellow passengers got stuck on the tarmac for over two hours because airport employees weren’t allowed outside due to the lightning.

But what should have been the flight from hell was really something that turned into a beautiful, human experience, Conley, 38, said.

*** and ***

The man Conley was sitting next to, Joshua Chandler, even put on a pretend duck tour for the young kids, as he had been on one earlier that day, blowing the yellow duck whistle around his neck.

*** end quote ***

What a great inspirational story.  We hear all about the “Karens” and “Kens”, drunken idiots, or some “un housebroken” slobs on planes.  But we rarely hear of the times that humans all come together under duress and make the best of some unfortunate coincidences.

I’d like to think that I could be like them  — charitable, kind, and considerate of my neighbors.

And, BTW, where does one go for a “duck tour” and why. Laugh!

Of course, I’ll never ever fly into, out of, or through DFW.  One thunderstorm ride there back in the 70’s was enough for me. (And that’s where IBM lost its PC team when Esteridge’s place went down. All the corporate travel departments created the “only a few employees on any one flight” rule as few weeks later. So sad.)

Great story of humanity’s possibilities.

Attorney General Merrick Garland declined to answer questions on a wide range of matters Wednesday in sworn testimony before the House Judiciary Committee.

Garland testified that he couldn’t remember whether he talked to FBI personnel about the investigation of first son Hunter Biden and didn’t know how many confidential informants entered the Capitol during the riot on Jan. 6, 2021.

The attorney general, appointed by President Joe Biden, also hesitated to answer whether Catholics are “violent extremists,” as an infamous FBI memo said.

Researchers have been studying the discriminating potential of human scent for over three decades. A 1988 experiment demonstrated that a dog could distinguish identical twins living apart and exposed to different environmental conditions by their scent alone. This is a feat that could not be accomplished using DNA evidence, as identical twins share the same genetic code.

Unprecedented images of WWII shipwrecks from Battle of Midway reveal clues about aircraft carriers’ “final moments”

Each dive ended with protocol ceremonies to honor all who lost their lives in the battle.

More than 3,400 people were killed at Midway, and the vast majority of casualties were Japanese service members, according to the National WWII Museum. About 362 U.S. troops were among the dead. Japan lost four aircraft carriers, one cruiser, and hundreds of aircraft, while the U.S. lost one carrier, one destroyer and 144 aircraft during the battle.

“On this occasion, we meet on those same Pacific waters in which Japan and the U.S. once met in battle, but this time as allies and fellow researchers,” said Embassy of Japan Minister Kosei Nomura. “We are reminded that today’s peace and tomorrow’s discoveries are built on the sacrifices of war, and so in my view, it is meaningful that Japan and the U.S. are now deepening their cooperation at Midway, utilizing such cutting-edge technology.”

Scientists discover a new type of brain cell

  • There are hints that it could lead to new treatments for Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and other brain disorders.
  • An image of a neuron with a blue light coming out of it.
  • Most of the cells in the brain are either neurons or glial cells. The former send messages, while the latter protect the former. Astrocytes are a type of glial cell found near synapses. Researchers believe they have discovered a new type of astrocyte that actively participates in neurotransmission, making them a sort of hybrid between neurons and glial cells.

A new brain cell: Researchers at the Wyss Center for Bio and Neuroengineering and the University of Lausanne believe they’ve definitively proven that some astrocytes do actively participate in neurotransmission, making them a sort of hybrid of neurons and glial cells.

According to the researchers, this third type of brain cell, which they call a “glutamatergic astrocyte,” could offer a way to treat Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and other disorders of the nervous system.

“Its discovery opens up immense research prospects,” said study co-director Andrea Volterra.

Pediatrician Discharges Mother’s Kids After She Objects to Gender Ideology

My now-former pediatrician installed on the wall of every exam room a “Safe Zone” rainbow triangle sticker with the words “sexual orientation,” “gender expression,” and “gender identity.” Meticulously placed in front of the exam table and at a child’s eye level, it was the first thing my daughter noticed on the otherwise blank walls. She asked me to read the words and tell her what they meant. She was five years old and just learning to read.

I told the doctor this was inappropriate sexual content on the wall and there will be no talk of this sticker with my daughter, but when my daughter asked about the sticker again, the doctor told her, “it’s about being inclusive.” This confused my daughter even more.

After a tense disagreement (in another room) about the politics of the sticker, my doctor agreed that it was reasonable to place younger children in exam rooms without the sticker. But she never placed my children in another room or returned my follow-up calls. Instead, a doctor called me and “invited” me to leave the medical practice. It is illegal to discharge a patient without thirty days’ notice in Rhode Island.

GUNS: Protect schools with real resources

Time to Get Serious about Protecting Our Schools
By David Huntwork

*** begin quote ***

Many years ago, Israel faced waves of terror attacks against soft targets. The Israelis responded by seriously hardening their schools and other more vulnerable locations. Much of that added security was in the form of well armed and well trained personnel specifically designated to deter and defeat the type of threats we are now seeing directed at U.S. schools. What we do not see now is anyone successfully targeting or attacking Israeli schools. There are good reasons for that, and we should not be afraid to learn from the hard lessons of others.

*** end quote ***

I remember that when the Israelis hardened their schools, they were reported to be using grandparents as “extra security”.  I remember thinking at the time about how smart that was.  Grandparents would willingly sacrifice themselves for their grandchildren.  And, no one would be more vigilant about “school security” than they would be.

As this article suggest, let’s not put an added burden on police but have a real force who’s mission was singularly focused.

Bring sanity back to society.

POLITICAL: Just say “no” to Federal Funds!

Why State Schools Should Refuse Federal Money
By Sheri Few

*** begin quote ***

The key to eliminating federal intervention in government schools is to eliminate federal funding.

The time is right for states to wean themselves off the federal dole. Serious conversations are taking place throughout the country about the legitimate and effective role of the federal government in education. But who has a viable plan to dismantle the behemoth?

The “Blueprint to Establish State Control of Education by Eliminating all Federal Education Dollars,” written by United States Parents Involved in Education (USPIE) outlines the necessary steps to restore state sovereignty for education policy and practice — and it’s achievable.

The Blueprint explains detailed steps to help governors and state legislators develop and execute a concrete plan, and even provides clear evidence as to how educational outcomes can improve.

States can eliminate federal funding in four steps:

1. Analyze education funds by source: federal, state, and local.

2. Conduct a Cost of Compliance Study for federal funds.

3. Identify state programs to replace USED programs.

4. Shift education revenue responsibilities entirely back to the state.

*** and ***

One approach to generate required revenue could be to establish a state tax called “offset to federal funds” calculated to collect the amount needed. Since most of the federal tax is collected from income taxes, a replacement tax using the same model might be most easily understood by the public.

To keep from sending the federal government the money they previously took and gave back, taxpayers would need a mechanism to deduct this offset from their individual federal taxes. Since the state and local tax deductions were eliminated in the last major tax bill, a special arrangement would have to be made. However, there is benefit to the federal government in this arrangement as the savings from program improvements would be shared with them, since only the replacement funding is deducted.

*** end quote ***

Like the mouse that doesn’t understand “free cheese”, so to “We, The Sheeple” need to just say “no” to “Federal funds”.

First off, there are NO “Federal funds”  — EVERYTHING comes from the Taxpayer in one way or another.

(The idea of sending money to the Federal Gooferment and getting pennies on the dollars back tied to conditions NEVER made any sense to me.  Eliminate all the layers and cost associated with it.)

Second, the results of Gooferment Skrules is absurd.

VETERANS: Not sure how many vets would sign up again?

How the Hell Do You Think Us Veterans Feel Right Now?
Guest Post by Kurt Schlichter

*** begin quote ***

Was I a sucker? I sure don’t want to feel like a sap, but the thought that I may be one arises when I watch this endless parade of patriots – including our last conscious president – being prosecuted for their political beliefs and treated differently under a two-tier justice system as the garbage institutions attempt to quash free speech, and as the alleged president, a desiccated, corrupt, old pervert, generally drives our country into the ground. I defended this?

I did 27 years in our military. I proudly swore to defend our Constitution. Now, I only washed trucks – I wasn’t a war hero like Pete Buttigieg or Da Nang Dick Blumenthal, and I certainly wasn’t killed in Iraq, Afghanistan, and also (I think) Maui like Joe Biden’s non-coke-addled son was, but I showed up. I dressed like a tree, marched around, went where they sent me, and did my job. Don’t get me wrong – it was not all bad. It was fun some of the time, and I got to do a lot of interesting things other people didn’t get to. I got a little money – very little – and I’ve always been intensely grateful for the chance to be an American soldier. And I took it seriously. That oath I took? It never expires. And now I just need to know if I was a sucker for believing all that Constitution and freedom stuff when I raised my right hand.

I know a lot of fellow vets who are asking the same question.

*** and ***

So, we return to the original question. Was I a sucker for doing what I did? Did I fall for the okey-doke? Was I the mark? Were all of us veterans fooled?

Absolutely not, because the America I chose to defend, and that millions and millions of veterans chose to defend, was worthy of our service and our sacrifice. The unworthy among us have temporarily taken over. The unworthy have gutted our institutions and, as Twitter legend Iowahawk memorably put it, worn those institutions as a skinsuit demanding respect.

*** end quote ***

Look at how Vets are treated in comparison to “illegal invaders”.

Look at the VA health system.

Look at “equal justice under the law” when vets get shafted.

All of us vets were betrayed.

Leave no man behind was our code; only to be betrayed by politicians and bureaucrats at their first opportunity.

I, for one, think it’s time to fix this once and for all.

Appeals court reinstates wrongly imprisoned student’s lawsuit against college for hiding evidence

By Greg Piper
Updated: September 9, 2023 – 11:20pm

A student who spent 16 months in prison before a second jury exonerated him of sexual assault will get another chance to hold his public university accountable for withholding evidence during his first criminal trial, then refusing to give him a conduct hearing to clear his educational record.

The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals vacated most of a trial judge’s ruling that dismissed Darold Palmore’s lawsuit against Clarion University – since renamed Pennsylvania Western University, or PennWest Clarion, after a merger – and officials including the campus police officer who withheld security footage.

The three-judge panel unanimously remanded Palmore’s malicious prosecution, Brady due process, 14th Amendment due process, Title IX, negligence, and breach of contract claims for further proceedings.

The ruling is all the more remarkable because Palmore, a D.C. native who had planned to go to law school after his expected graduation four years ago, has represented himself throughout the two-year civil case against Clarion, albeit with guidance from sympathetic lawyers.

Washington is more of a gerontocracy than ever — no president has ever been older and the median age of the current Senate is 65.3 years, a record high. Though some House freshmen are in their 40s or younger, the median age in that chamber, too, is the highest it’s ever been. McConnell’s brain-freeze episodes, Biden’s moments of obvious confusion, and the tragic evidence of Feinstein’s cognitive decline keep raising questions about the age and health of America’s political leaders. Actually, they keep raising just one question: What do we do about geriatric officeholders who refuse to relax their grip on power?

An Italian banker wore the cape of a real-life hero after he saved the life of a three-year-old girl falling from the fifth floor of a building in central Turin. The incident happened on Saturday, August 26, when 37-year-old Mattia Aguzzi was on his way to a bakery with his girlfriend in the morning. “I heard a man scream when he saw the little girl leaning out on the ledge. The little girl kept leaning more and more and climbed over the ledge, she held on only with two arms and her legs were in the air,” Aguzzi narrated the incident to Sky24. He added: “I started yelling at her to stay still and to go back inside but she didn’t hear. When I saw her fall I stepped in the way, closed my eyes and hoped that everything was going to be for the best, I blocked her by cushioning the blow and we both fell to the ground…Initially I didn’t feel any sign of life, then the baby started crying and I breathed a sigh of relief.”

Great catch!

Don’t underestimate how much risk he himself was taking.

The shocking moment three women beat an Asian man with a metal pipe before taking off with his car has been caught on camera.

Danxin Shi, a rideshare driver, is no longer able to work after his vehicle was stolen by the gang about 5:30pm on Tuesday evening in crime-ridden, Dem-led Chicago.

Footage shows the moment the Chinatown resident, who lives West 22nd Place, parking his vehicle and walking along the street when he is struck with a weapon and shoved to the ground – where he is beaten repeatedly.

Guess the race of the three “women”?

I’m fed up with crime and adults who are out of control.

While I’m against the death penalty when the Gooferment administer it, I am for the RKBA and what everyone have the ability to defend themselves.  In this case, deadly force was warranted, and that man should have be able to “convince” the young ladies of the error of their ways.

Quoting my sheepdog post:

“I particularly like unlimited concealed carry. If the criminal regards the general public as sheep to be shorn, then let’s sprinkle in a few “sheepdogs” with big teeth in the flock.

Guess which gay to bash? Buzz, wrong, you picked a Pink Pistol and you’re dead!

Guess which woman to bash? Buzz, wrong, you picked a Paxton Quigly and you’re dead!

Guess which brown person to bash? Buzz, wrong, you picked a Massad Ayoob and you’re dead!”

What’s the Grappler Police Bumper?
FOX 10 Phoenix  — Sep 2, 2023

*** begin quote ***

Police pursuits are unpredictable, dangerous, and in some cases, even deadly.

These pursuits put not only officers’ lives in danger, but also innocent people who happen to get caught up in the chaos.

Until recently, there was no safe way to bring them to an end. Officers would have to rely on something called a ‘PIT Maneuver’ (PIT, according to an article on the U.S. Department of Justice’s website, stands for Precision Immobilization Technique) to try to stop the vehicles they were after by forcing a vehicle to spin out and come to a stop. Another option is to lay down spike strips to deflate the tires, but even then, the suspects would often keep going on the rim only.

Five years ago, however, a new option emerged in the form of the Grappler Police Bumper.

TINFOILHAT: 9/11 Will We Ever Get the Truth?

9/11, 22 Years Later: Will We Ever Get the Truth?
Guest Post by Kevin Barrett

*** begin quote ***

Carlson built his career by cultivating a reputation for straight talk, unfazed by political correctness. But as he suggests, straight talk about 9/11 in general, and WTC-7 in particular, is unwelcome in today’s USA. In mainstream media, even asking questions in unacceptable.

Why can’t we ask questions about Building 7? Because the answers are all-too-obvious—and all-too-embarrassing to the rulers of the intertwined American and Israeli empires.

World Trade Center Building 7, a 47-story high-rise, collapsed into its own footprint at 5:21 pm on September 11, 2001, seven hours after the Twin Towers were destroyed. Numerous witnesses reported police and emergency personnel announcing that WTC-7 was about to come down. Seconds before it fell, witnesses overheard a countdown to demolition (“five-four-three-two-one”) on police radio, followed by the massive explosion that precipitated the “collapse.”

The building fell at absolute free-fall for the first two-and-a-half seconds, and near-free-fall thereafter. That means that all of WTC-7’s vertical supports had somehow been simultaneously and completely removed. The only known mechanism that can do that is professionally-prepared-and-timed explosives.

The obvious controlled demolition of Building 7 threw a monkey wrench into the US government’s official 9/11 narrative. WTC-7 had been one of the most important buildings in America. It housed the CIA’s second-largest headquarters after Langley, Virginia, as well as the Secret Service, the Securities and Exchange Commission with its Enron files, the Internal Revenue Service, and many of America’s biggest corporate heavy hitters. What’s more, WTC-7’s 23rd floor was the home of New York’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM), where the local and federal governments would manage their joint response to any major disaster—like 9/11.

Bottom line: NO!

Like the JFK assassination, RFK, MLK, Malcom X, etc. etc., the “truth” is that the tyrants seek to control “We, The Sheeple” and this is all kabuki theater.

POLITICAL: What Federal Gooferment agencies would you shut down?

Trump’s Movement Transcends Politics
By Matt Kane

*** begin quote ***

But the gloves are now off. So much about the American political system is rooted in precedent, and a precedent has been set that will allow Trump to open investigations into the many troubling actions taken by his predecessors. Another Trump election could bring true generational change to America for the better. He has vowed he would quickly bring down inflation and gas prices, strengthen the economy, secure the border, and reintroduce a strong America on the global stage in just months. But taking on the Deep State is most important now, and he has demonstrated that he understands how vital this task is for America’s long-term future by recently urging Republicans in Congress to “fight fire with fire.” He also referenced “an eye for an eye” when asked, if re-elected, if he would “lock up” those in government who commit crimes.

*** end quote ***

Recently I read someone complain that calling Washington DC a swamp it really unfair to swamps everywhere.  A better adjective would be a sewer.  Like the old joke about calling politicians “morons” was unfair to real “morons”.

That being said, Vivek Ramaswamy has at least begun to address the list of Federal Gooferment agencies that he would shutdown.  Desantis has four.

Us little L libertarians, have an inexhaustible list: Federal Reserve, FBI, AFT, DHS, IRS, HHS, D of Education, D of Energy, Agriculture, … … and on and on and on.

Money: The Cantillon Effect

A Cantillon effect is an uneven change in relative prices resulting from a change in money supply, which was first described by 18th-century economist Richard Cantillon (who inspired political economists like Adam Smith and David Ricardo).

Man Used 80 Discarded Vape Batteries to Power an Electric Scooter Proving the Importance of E-Waste

By Good News Network – Sep 2, 2023

*** begin quote ***

A clever graduate has used 80 discarded vape batteries to power his e-scooter—and to make a point about waste.

The 23-year-old Brit says disposable vape devices are marketed as expendable, but still have plenty of power—and people need to know that.

It didn’t cost any money to pick up 80 discarded vape batteries and he wired the lithium-ion batteries to a scooter purchased on eBay for $37 (£30).

*** end quote ***

Wow.  Now there’s an “injineer”.

I’m more impressed with scooters when I see them in use.  While I’m too old and heavy for one, and they really are only for “fair weather”, there is a lesson for “youngsters” who can’t drive yet that there are alternatives to “shank’s mare” aka walking.

It also demonstrates the value of “lateral thinking”.

Wish I was young again, there seems like there are MORE opportunities for youths to succeed in unconventional 9-5 wage slave jobs.
