Radioactive Fraud: Company overcharged taxpayers for cleanup of hazardous waste, Gave big money to Senator.

A story of nuclear waste and tax dollar waste, a company which was contracted to clean up radioactive refuse has been overcharging taxpayers (by a lot) for over a decade. In 2009 however the times got particularly good when the stimulus train came through town. It dropped off $1.9 billion, with a little help from friends in high places.

Do Republicans Need a Conservative Version of the Welfare State to Win?
Shikha Dalmia|Mar. 9, 2013 2:51 pm

*** begin quote ***

In short, the ideal conservative welfare state would be a libertarian dystopia of even bigger proportions than the liberal welfare state. There is less welfare and more state in it.

But what is deeply ironic is that a magazine that accuses libertarians of isolationism because they oppose American military interventionism has no qualms about recommending a restrictionist immigration policy to keep foreigners out and a protectionist trade policy to keep foreign goods out. If I had to pick a term for this foreign policy, I’d call it neo-isolationism. And maybe I lack imagination, but it is hard to see how a party that wants to engage the world through its “fearsome military” — rather than through voluntary exchange and mutual cooperation — could gain enough moral high ground to craft a winning political message, especially in a war-weary country.

Sorry, but that is just tyranny with a different label!

The Early Stages of ObamaCare

Posted by Karen De Coster on March 3, 2013 04:06 PM

Here is a great talk given at The 21 Convention in 2012, by Doug McGuff, MD, a prominent member of the ancestral health (paleo-primal) community: “Fitness, Health, and Liberty.” Doug, an emergency room physician, is well known for his ‘Body By Science’ program, a high-intensity interval training program.

This is an important presentation because Doug presents the historical picture on how the physician-patient relationship went from a fiduciary relationship between provider and consumer to a 3rd party morass of collectivized medicine that sacrificed individual services to the needs of the masses in general in order to conform to the rules outlined by the medical establishment-insurance industry alliance.

*****

Yes, if the “golden rule” is the driver — he who has the gold makes the rules — then the patient can no longer trust the objectivity of the doctor or the medical establishment.

ABC defends editing Michelle Obama’s ‘automatic weapon’ claim

ABC is defending its decision to edit out an apparently erroneous claim by Michelle Obama in its broadcast of the first lady’s interview on Good Morning America today, saying it made the changes “solely” for the sake of time.

As The Washington Examiner reported this morning, the first lady claimed during an interview with Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts that 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton, who was killed in Chicago shortly after performing during the President’s Inauguration, was shot because “some kids had some automatic weapons they didn’t need.”

*** end quote ***

Unfortunately, FLOTUS is a political operative. Supporting BHO44’s agenda. And that of the anti-gun gun control aka “Victim Disarmament” “skrule of thought”.

HRC did the same for Bill on Health Care.

But, the moment you step into the political arena, then you become fair game.

In this case, a SUPPOSED news operation gave political cover to FLOTUS and demonstrate that they can be trusted.

(I wonder if there’s a vast right wing conspiracy over in the inet division that put the whole thing online? I bet there is a witch hunt going on now!)

In any event, let’s examine the flaws.

(1) In the US, there are NO legal automatic weapons.

(2) In the cited incident, the bad actor used a handgun.

(3) The keyword “need” is in the “liberal” narrative; what I “need” has no bearing in the context of the RKBA.

(4) There has been no reporting, but the Chicago violence is probably rooted in the “(pseudo) War on (some) Drugs” and an immoral lackadaisical culture and civil society.

(5) Is there a correlation between “the strictest gun laws” and the level of violence? Like the bumper sticker says, “when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns”!

(6) ABCNEWS should have it’s “news” broadcasts post a disclaimer, like the do on the infomercials, “edited for dramatic content”, or “this is a fairy tale”, or “We waive our First Amendment claim to be the Free Press; we’re whores for the Left!”.

We should have “Truth in Advertising”.

Boycott the mainstream media!

16 Ways to Cut Defense Spending
The greatest threat to our national security is how much our militarism costs.
By JON BASIL UTLEY • February 22, 2013

*** begin quote ***

1) The military is top-heavy with officers and generals compared to enlisted men, with far more proportionately today than during World War II. The military is still trained and designed mostly for mass mobilization to refight World War II: tanks, aircraft-carrier strike groups, and fighter planes for dogfights and to shoot down bombers only Russia has. Yet Russia’s military is a shadow of its former self, plagued and demoralized by Putin-era corruption. China is dynamic, defensive, and prospers with peace.

Basing one’s military on past wars’ lessons is nothing new. British generals entered World War I with horse cavalry and the strategy of Napoleon. It’s common to start wars with the strategy of 75 years before.

Facebook Gets a Multibillion-Dollar Tax Break

By Peter Coy on February 15, 2013

It hasn’t drawn much attention, but Facebook’s first annual earnings report contains an accounting gem: a multibillion-dollar tax deduction for the cost of executive stock options and share awards.

Even though Facebook (FB) reported $1.1 billion in pre-tax profits from U.S. operations in 2012, it will probably pay zero federal and state taxes—and even receive a federal tax refund of about $429 million—according to a Feb. 14 statement from Citizens for Tax Justice.

The tax-research and -lobbying organization says companies such as Facebook should treat stock options the same in their reports to shareholders as they do in their tax filings. Citizens for Tax Justice calls the tax footnotes in Facebook’s Jan. 30 financial statement “an amazing admission,” but there’s nothing illegal about the breaks the company is claiming. Companies like Facebook are allowed to treat the cost of non-cash compensation, such as stock options, as an expense that reduces profits, essentially the way they treat cash compensation such as salaries.

POLITICAL: Could this be the line in the sand?

“I will note that the legislation passed by the New York legislature and signed by Governor Cuomo is anti-Constitutional. I don’t recall reading “…shall not be infringed, except in New York State” anywhere in the Bill of Rights. Since this legislation outlaws guns and magazines which are currently legal and requires their surrender; and since it leaves the people of New York without the ability to defend themselves against outlaws who ignore these restrictions; then by the arguments in this series of papers, it represents a declaration of war against the law-abiding, gun-owning citizens of New York State, and is thus an act of Treason against the People of New York and the United States.”

POLITICAL: What’s a little Constitution between friends?

Thursday, January 17, 2013

Wait, Didn’t the Fiscal Cliff Deal Originate in the Senate?
via Cato @ Liberty by Ilya Shapiro on 1/10/13

*** begin quote ***

If you thought the policy side of the “American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012” is bad, did you notice that there’s a constitutional problem too? I’m sure there’s more than one, actually, but this one was easy to spot without even digging into the gory details.

Recall that the fiscal cliff bill was first passed by the Senate in the wee hours of New Year’s Day, and then seconded by a vote of the House some 20 hours later. And yet, Article I, Section 7, Clause 1—known as the Origination Clause—states: “All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.”

*** and ***

And so too with the “American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012,” which was a true tax-relief bill of the same name that House Republicans (and 19 Democrats) passed on August 1, 2012. That bill was naturally DOA in Harry Reid’s Senate, but it did become a useful shell for last week’s shenanigans.

So there you have it: What’s a little Constitution between friends?

Oh, and a langiappe about our favorite new law: given that it was passed on January 1—but alas has not gone away with that day’s hangovers —even the year in the title is wrong. To be fair, however, it was both American and an act of Congress.

The Constitution has truly been rendered as defined by Lysander Spooner “No Treason No. VI: The Constitution of No Authority.”

POLITICAL: U.S. Intelligence Community

The Visible Government

How the U.S. Intelligence Community Came Out of the Shadows

by Tom Engelhardt

TomDispatch

*** begin ***

Their book with that startling title, The Invisible Government, was published in 1964 and it was groundbreaking, shadow-removing, illuminating. It caused a fuss from its very first paragraph, which was then a shockeroo: “There are two governments in the United States today. One is visible. The other is invisible.”

I mean, what did Americans know at the time about an invisible government even the president didn’t control that was lodged deep inside the government they had elected?

Wise and Ross continued: “The first is the government that citizens read about in their newspapers and children study about in their civics books. The second is the interlocking, hidden machinery that carries out the policies of the United States in the Cold War. This second, invisible government gathers intelligence, conducts espionage, and plans and executes secret operations all over the globe.”

The Invisible Government came out just as what became known as “the Sixties” really began, a moment when lights were suddenly being shone into many previously shadowy American corners. I was then 20 years old and sometime in those years I read their book with a suitable sense of dread, just as I had read those civics books in high school in which Martians landed on Main Street in some “typical” American town to be lectured on our way of life and amazed by our Constitution, not to speak of those fabulous governmental checks and balances instituted by the Founding Fathers, and other glories of democracy.

I wasn’t alone reading The Invisible Government either. It was a bestseller and CIA Director John McCone reportedly read the manuscript, which he had secretly obtained from publisher Random House. He demanded deletions. When the publisher refused, he considered buying up the full first printing. In the end, he evidently tried to arrange for some bad reviews instead.

POLITICAL: The Lincoln Movie

The Lincoln Movie
by Mark Thornton

*** begin quote ***

Steven Spielberg’s epic movie Lincoln is truly a masterpiece. As an historical drama it portrays Lincoln in the final months of his life and the final months of the Civil War. More than anything, it shows Lincoln attempting – against all odds – to pass the 13th Amendment to the Constitution abolishing slavery.

*** and ***

With Lincoln, of course Abraham Lincoln was president during the American Civil War, Mary Todd Lincoln was the first lady, they had sons, etc. All the supporting cast did exist including all the politicians, cabinet members, generals, etc. The 13th amendment to the Constitution banning slavery did pass, Lincoln was assassinated, and the Union did defeat the Confederacy.

It is also true that Lincoln did work to promote the passage of the 13th amendment. However, as Thomas DiLorenzo has shown, Lincoln worked for the passage of the 13th amendment in 1861 That 13th amendment would have banned the federal government from interfering with states that permitted slavery if it has been ratified. Furthermore, he shows that there is no hard evidence that Lincoln worked for the passage of the 13th amendment in 1865 which prohibited slavery in all states.

As you can see, the real version of events would not have made for a good movie. In fact, the real Lincoln would not make for any kind of pleasant movie. He was a loser politician married to a crazy woman, who unexpectedly found success because the nation splintered into four political parties, handing him the election.

Lincoln was famous for telling people what they wanted to hear. He would often claim to support one position on an issue to one group of people and claim to support the opposite position to another group of people. He was the classic flip-flopper often supporting numerous positions on an issue over his political career. No good material for a movie here.

*** end quote ***

Wow, who would have thought a politician is a flip flopper telling people what they want to hear?

Lincoln is far and away on the top of my worst President list. No one in the second tier is even close.

He was the ultimate crony capitalist as a “railroad lawyer”.

I find it bemusing that the Black Community reveres him.

Not that I’m a proponent of slavery, Jim Crow, or racism, but he was the opposite of their image.

Toss in on top that the rest of the world was able to eliminate slavery without a war. Slavery was uneconomic and, ten more so, when the mechanization of America. Human labor is too valuable to waste in slavery. (Ever try and get a human to do something that they don’t want to do? As children, we learn at an early age that no one can make us do ANYTHING ever. Report: How Food Stamps Benefit Corporations (EBT is Big Business)
Posted on November 17, 2012 by Nick Sorrentino

*** begin quote ***

An investigation by the Government Accountability Institute has found that:

Three companies – J.P. Morgan EFS, Affiliated Computer Services, and eFunds – provide EBT services for 49 states and 3 US territories.

Since 2004, 18 of 24 states who contract with J.P. Morgan to provide welfare benefits have contracted to pay $560,492,596.02. New York alone has a seven-year contract worth $126,394,917.

Projected average food stamp spending post-recession will be 175% greater than prerecession average spending, from $28 billion to $77 billion.Since 2009, 32 states have followed the USDA’s suggestion to use Broad Based

Categorical Eligibility “as a way to increase SNAP participation and reduce State workloads.”

Changing the rules for eligibility, along with state-level changes in

application methods, has contributed to a 70 % increase in food stamp participation from 2007 to 2011.

Lax security by EBT processors and states invites food stamp fraud, often through social media. There are understaffed fraud investigation units at both the federal and state level. For example, Florida has just 63 staff positions to police approximately 3 million EBT users state-wide. These investigators not only handle TANF and SNAP eligibility fraud, but also EBT trafficking, Social Security Disability and Medicaid eligibility fraud, Emergency Financial Assistance for Housing, and Low Income Energy assistance, among many others.

The book is a trilogy. The three volumes fast moving. The author is a woman. E. L. James. I specify her sex since from my perspective it is a woman’s book written by a woman.

Fifty Shades is #1 on the New York Times best seller list. It is being read world wide. Book stores keep running out.

Fifty Shades is a love novel. Again, written by a woman for women. Not generally the type of book men read. Too lovey dovey.

My sense is the book is going to raise sex to another level.

POLITICAL: Do “We, The Sheeple” understand that no politician “gives” anything

As usual the rightwing propaganda machine has been spreading misinformation about the election.. So just for the record.. The polls were correct.. Romney was never in the lead.. The jobs numbers were right.. And not only was this election a Landslide.. It confirmed that Obamacare is here to stay.. Giving America Healthcare.. Something Presidents from both parties have been trying to accomplish since 1912.. Barack Obama is the first Democrat to win two terms with majorities in both the Electoral College & the Popular Vote.. Since Franklin Delano Roosevelt.. When you add to these things all of his many accomplishments.. You come to the realization that not only has he solidified his place in History.. But He will go down as one the greatest Presidents this Nation has ever had…

# – # – #

Presidents, or any politician and bureaucrat, don’t “give” “US” anything. They merely STEAL from the haves or the productive and REDISTRIBUTE to some ill-defined population while RETAINING a large portion for themselves. And, expect everyone to ADORE them for doing this.

As far as OBAMCARE goes, it’s an economic certainty NOT to work. While will a reduced number of doctors (some fraction will retire rather than work for less than their expectations) be able to SERVICE about a THIRD more people who know have FREE healthcare. We learned in ECON 101 that medical care is an INELASTIC good people will demand it regardless of supply. SO look to the VA, MEDICAID, and the NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN HEALTHCARE systems for how it’s going to be. Long lines, killing delays, and “death panels” deciding what will be provided for the MUNDANE class; while the rich and the politicians are treated differently.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

*** begin quote ***

I think it is correct to say that Western Civilization has collapsed; its creative, liberating, and humanizing foundations destroyed by the collective forces of institutionalized violence. American and European countries – long the seats of Western culture – are at the end of an entropic decline. At the same time, however, I have long suspected that we are in the early stages of a transformation in thinking that is producing major changes in how we live and work with one another in society. The vertically-structured systems of centralized authority are being replaced by horizontal networks that interconnect in decentralized, voluntary ways. The Internet – which has expanded the liberating and creative capacities inhering in Gutenberg’s invention – is the most visible expression of what I think of as the “unfolding civilization.”

POLITICAL: “… steal the passenger lifeboats …”

Sunday, November 4, 2012

http://lewrockwell.com/holland/holland72.1.html

Gold, Switzerland and the European Secessionist Movement
Anthony Wile interviews Ron Holland
The Daily Bell

*** begin quote ***

Ron Holland: Cutting rates, monetary stimulation and creating more fiat money seems to be the only option left to the central banking cartel in Europe and America. For the US, this creates a higher stock market thus making citizens feel more prosperous and less destitute than they really are. This always occurs during a presidential election campaign as the party in power and the president up for re-election need a positive – or in this case an improving – economy to increase their chances of winning the election. Both parties have done this for the last 40 years or so; nothing unusual here.

I really don’t view monetary easing as particularly harmful as it only postpones the inevitable for a little while longer, like moving up the angle of the Titanic as it was sinking from the bow with the stern higher up in the air. You stay dry for a few minutes longer but in the end, you still drown. Today politicians and central bankers are sort of like some crews on recent sinking cruise ships. They are using their time to steal the passenger lifeboats and safely get away while leaving the passengers to swim to shore or drown.

Also, the European Central Bank (ECB) and banking elite efforts to postpone their day of reckoning in Europe and New York is actually somewhat helpful to American citizens and investors. The investor risk in Europe is actually propelling funds into the American stock and bond markets as well as the dollar buying us a little extra time before the crisis crosses the Atlantic. In addition, the EU problems are helping the dollar in the near term on a relative basis to be stronger than it would be otherwise.

*** end quote ***

This is an insightful metaphor (i.e., the Titanic’s lifeboats).

It’s interesting and dangerous times.

How does the individual protect themselves and their families?

Clearly, one has to diversify one’s risks.

Make “insurance bets”.

If inflation picks up (more than it is now; if you believe the Gooferment’s numbers), then you have to take precautions.

POLITICAL: Once again, who knew what and when? Benghazi-gate file

Up on Frequency

*** begin quote ***

In recent posts, we’ve asked the fundamental question about the terrorist attack on our consulate in Benghazi, which resulted in the deaths of four Americans: what did the administration know, and when did they know it?

As we’ve noted, there was a steady stream of intelligence reporting on the attack, delivered at the FLASH/CRITIC level. Messages assigned that priority must be delivered to the President within 10 minutes of receipt. This traffic captured conversations between the Islamist factions responsible for the attack, before and during the assault on our compound. That’s why administration claims that incident was some sort of “demonstration gone bad” are nothing more than a lie.

This is a disaster.

The President’s response to this is inexplicable.

There’s is no doubt that some one told the UN Ambassador to get out on the TV circuit and reaffirm the Administration’s tale.

So, as always, who knew what? When? And, what is the path of the strategy!

Argh!

POLITICAL: Media Bias a la Candy Crowley

Joe Trippi: Crowley ‘Correcting’ Romney on Libya Looked Like ‘The Ref Just Threw the Flag’

By Noel Sheppard | October 16, 2012 | 23:20

*** begin quote ***

Conceivably the biggest moment in Tuesday’s presidential debate was when moderator Candy Crowley injected herself into the discussion siding with Barack Obama on remarks he claimed he made in the Rose Garden following the attack on our consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

Against my better judgment, I watch the second debate because the Yankees were hopeless.

As all the “conservative” pundits predicted, Ms. Crowley couldn’t help but pile in on her “team’s side”.

I thought that wasn’t permitted by the rules of engagement?

And, what’s more she was WRONG!

Liberal bias!

Took the UN Ambassador on the TV circuit with a misleading at best story. Took the White House a week to walk it back and only after that DoI guy told to the truth to Congress. (You could almost hear the conversation right out of that Jack Ryan movie. “I ain’t going to jail. I’m the guy who always goes to jail.”) And BHO44 didn’t concede it until he was on the View.

Argh!

I can make some small allowance that perhaps it MIGHT be in the nation’s strategic interest to keep stuff quiet.

(For example, if I was Prez, I would not have illed Bin Laden. He’d be in an undisclosed location with some nasty folks asking tough questions. And, even when presented with the downed helicopter, I’d lie to the TV and say ‘wasn’t us’. Stragteically. I also threaten anyone who did toe the party like with an assignment to be Presidential liaison with the Base Commander in Sitka Alaska. And, call the commander and have him in a cube at the end of the longest runway counting seagulls for his daily report.)

But in this case, I think this was al about CYA for the BHO44 reelection and nothing else.

Can “We, The Sheeple” see through the media bias and recognized a failed foreign policy?

POLITICAL: SO the “debates” are scripted?

Moderator Role Under Scrutiny — Before the Debate
By Mark Halperin | October 14, 2012

*** begin quote ***

In an unusual departure from the normal hostility that exists between the Obama and Romney campaigns, both parties wholeheartedly agreed with the Commission that they wished to avoid a repeat of what occurred four years ago. In 2008, NBC News’ Tom Brokaw moderated the town hall session between Obama and Republican nominee John McCain, and the two campaigns and the organizers felt that Brokaw redirected the topics too severely from the audience queries and asked too many of his own questions, limiting the number of citizens who got a chance at the microphone. Appearing on NBC News “Meet the Press” on Sunday, Brokaw said, “[I]t’s tricky for the moderator. I said that Candy Crowley ought to get combat gear after I went through that four years ago.” Brokaw told TIME, “I am satisfied citizens in the hall and online got a fair hearing.” Brokaw also said that while there was some press criticism of the job he did, he heard no complaints directly from the campaigns and a Commission official praised the debate to him as “good television.”

George Orwell must be rolling over.

Talk about propaganda.

Very carefully agreed as to what the people will see.

Argh!

Wake up, Sheeple.

Lambs to the slaughter!

Another “reality” show.
