Washington DC – “We’ve got to stop ISIS… al-Qaida… Syria’sAssad… Hamas… Hezbollah… Taliban…

Shebab…the wicked Ruskis in Ukraine…those Yemeni Houthis…Iran…Sudan…Islamists in Libya and Mali…Boko Haram in Nigeria… the Red Chinese in Asia. Oh yes, and defend Latvia and fight the Lord’s Army in Uganda.

*** and ***

To quote Frederick the Great, “he who defends everything, defends nothing.” To which we may add, he who spends on wars everywhere, ends up broke. And he who ignores domestic needs for the sake of imperial glory abroad is cruising for a bruising.

The American Imperium can no longer enforce the international status quo that had given it immense power and wealth since 1945. The Hapsburg Emperor Charles V and poor Louis XVI faced the same problem.

*** and ***

As they say at the Betty Ford Clinic for drug and alcohol addicts, “just say no.” Or, if Americans really want more jolly little wars around the globe, then raise taxes to pay for them instead of hiding their cost in the national debt.

Americans now face two conflicts in places they can’t even find on the map.

From the movie WarGames (1983):  “A strange game. The only winning move is not to play. How about a nice game of chess?”

Maybe BHO44 was displaying a flash of unexpected brilliance when he blurted out “ … we don’t have a strategy …”?

At some point, “We, The Sheeple” must wake up and take charge of our Gooferment!

POLITICAL: Conservative Welfare State — an oxymoron?

Do Republicans Need a Conservative Version of the Welfare State to Win?

In short, the ideal conservative welfare state would be a libertarian dystopia of even bigger proportions than the liberal welfare state. There is less welfare and more state in it.

But what is deeply ironic is that a magazine that accuses libertarians of isolationism because they oppose American military interventionism has no qualms about recommending a restrictionist immigration policy to keep foreigners out and a protectionist trade policy to keep foreign goods out. If I had to pick a term for this foreign policy, I’d call it neo-isolationism. And maybe I lack imagination, but it is hard to see how a party that wants to engage the world through its “fearsome military” — rather than through voluntary exchange and mutual cooperation — could gain enough moral high ground to craft a winning political message, especially in a war-weary country.

Sorry, but that is just tyranny with a different label!

POLITICAL: GOP changes their rules to prevent “grass roots”

GOP Acts To Prevent Another Paulian Insurgency

LA Times:

The RNC laid the groundwork to change its rules in a maneuver that would effectively make it harder for a Paul-type candidate in future elections. A key committee voted to raise the number of states required to put a name in contention from five to eight, and to allow campaigns to select state delegates. The latter is a response to Paul’s campaign this year, which in some states was successful in working local and state party rules so their delegates are appearing in Tampa despite other candidates’ winning the states’ voting contests.

Of course, as it turns out–surprise!–a Paulian insurgency was already impossible, because the GOP will lie, cheat, steal, threaten, and bribe to prevent an opponent of the warfare state from coming to the fore. It all began when Ron won the Iowa straw poll, and the Republicans changed the votes to make him #2. Of course, the GOP is an arm of the lying, killng, looting state. Why would we expect anything else from these gangsters?

The answer is that BOTH political parties are virtual clones of each other.

A viable third party has to form around: Sound money (like pre the FDR gold grab); Smaller Government (like the pre-War of Northern Aggression); and Peace through Strength (like Switzerland).
