Will the Supreme Court Save Richard Glossip?
- The fate of the death row inmate—who almost everyone believes is innocent—is finally being decided by the highest court in the land.
By Rupa Subramanya

*** begin quote ***
“No matter which side of the Glossip case the Supreme Court ultimately agrees with, state leaders will be forced to answer why Oklahoma has insisted on executing a man without considering new and potentially exculpatory evidence,” Brett Farley, the executive director of Catholic Conference of Oklahoma, which opposes the death penalty, told The Free Press. “It’s simply indefensible.”
*** end quote ***
Sorry but until we can undo a “death sentence” “We, The Sheeple” should NEVER permit the Gooferment to kill. Humans make mistakes; it’s inevitable. Thus, “innocence” should always be grounds for an appeal. I don’t care about the “rules of procedure”. If one can advance evidence of innocence, then that should always DEMAND a judicial review.
As I have blogged before, the only reason for the Gooferment to be permitted to kill a human is if that human is too dangerous to exist (i.e., a convicted murdered kills a guard). I like the French’s Devil’s Island. Surely we have some vacant land out in the wilderness for a version of this?

This dog sat in a road until a car stopped, then led man into woods to save injured human

Gita, 13-year-old rescue dog is being hailed a “true hero” for flagging help after her elderly owner fell and injured his leg in Washington state last month, Stevens County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
Deputy Colton Wright was patrolling a rural wooded area in Stevens County when he spotted a dog sitting in the middle of the road. With no visible residences nearby, the officer assumed the dog had gone missing and tried to get Gita into his car so he could try to find the owner.
However, Gita firmly refused to get into the vehicle, prompting the deputy to check the surrounding areas.

Not sure how to characterize this story. Not “heroic”; can animals be heroes? More than “INTERESTING” or “INSPIRATIONAL”. Maybe best as “SURVIVAL”.
We can’t explain such animal behavior. Like when a baby animal seeks out a human to help save the mom. Or fish entangled in a net seek out a human to save themselves or another fish. I know that it’s unusual enough to make me wonder — is there something we are missing?
I’ll just take note of it when I see it and someday maybe I’ll understand it.
Perhaps, in the after life, I’ll get some resolution.
Until then, everyone should have a loyal dog as their companion. Make it a rescue; not from a puppy farm.

Iran executes California man Jamshid Sharmahd after abducting him during international flight layover, convicting him of terror charges
By Ronny Reyes
Published Oct. 28, 2024, 1:44 p.m. ET
*** begin quote ***
Iran has executed a California resident after Iranian agents abudcted him during a flight layover in Dubai four years ago, officials said.
Sharmahd, 69, a German-Iranian dissident who lived in Glendora with his family, was accused by the Islamic Republic of planning a 2008 attack on a mosque that killed 14 people and wounded over 200 others.
His family disputes the terror charges, claiming Sharmahd is among the many Iranian dissidents who have been kidnapped or tricked into returning to Iran in recent years.
*** end quote ***
Almost regardless of whether he was a US citizen or just a resident, the USA should have stepped up for him. But we are too busy making enemies in the region.
Now, at the very least, the USA should PNG some folks. Maybe aim for the embassy workers. Make it inconvenient for them.
And we should shut down all the attacks on and rhetoric about Iran.

Germany Shutters Iran Consulates
Germany ordered the closure of all three Iranian consulates there yesterday, expelling 32 Iranian diplomats and leaving only Iran’s embassy in Berlin. The move followed Iran’s execution of German-Iranian citizen Jamshid Sharmahd.
Sharmahd, 69, was executed Monday after being sentenced to death last year on terrorism charges. Following his 2020 capture by Iranian forces in Dubai, Sharmahd was accused of leading a US-based Iranian opposition group and planning a 2008 mosque attack in Shiraz, killing 14 people and wounding more than 200 others. The US and human rights groups criticized the trial, alleging Sharmahd was not given proper representation.
The news escalates tensions between the two countries, with relations previously strained by Iran’s nuclear program and human rights abuses and Germany’s support for Israel. Germany halted trade incentives with Iran in 2022, reducing exports to approximately $1.3B in 2023, a 24% decrease from the previous year. Germany is now calling for EU-wide sanctions against those involved in Sharmahd’s execution.

An alternate voting method that puts a premium on finding a majority and allows voters to rank all candidates, not just cast a single vote for their favorite.
By Travis Hartman and Tiana McGee
Published Oct. 24, 2024 09:00 AM EDT
*** begin quote ***
In the United States, when only two candidates are on a ballot, the results are normally quite clear — the winner has a majority, or over 50% of the vote. But when there are three or more contenders, the vote can easily split in a way that allows for someone with less than 50% of the vote to win. Which means a majority of the votes were for someone other than the winner.
*** and ***
Alaska and Maine are currently the only two states that use this style of voting for federal elections, though Hawaii uses ranked choice voting for its special elections.
It is being used by over 50 cities in the United States and has been in place for over 100 years in Australia and Ireland.
*** end quote ***
This seems to be a vast improvement over the current system. And it eliminates the “wasted vote” syndrome.
For example, here in New Jersey, voting for a third party candidate is a waste of time, attention, and effort. The D’s swamp everything. Without Ranked Choice Voting, voting for a Libertarian “wastes” a vote. With it, my vote eventually counts for something.
Think the powers that own this country will ever allow “We, The Sheeple” to express their preferences? I don’t think so. But I could be wrong.
Kudos to Reuters for a simple graphic explanation that even a fat old white guy injineer could understand.

No Compromise With the Fed! – LewRockwell
By Llewellyn H. Rockwell, Jr.
*** begin quote ***
Some people argue like this: Although the Fed as it now exists is very bad, a nation needs a central bank to regulate its money supply, and the Fed is better than nothing. That being so, we should try to urge the Fed to adopt a non-expansionary monetary policy. In this view, calls to “End the Fed” are mistaken. I’m sure most of my readers already know what I’m about to say, but, just to be clear, that view is disastrously wrong. We do not need a central bank, and to argue in the way indicated is to betray the great Murray Rothbard and the great Dr. Ron Paul, whose slogan “End the Fed” has galvanized so many of us.
*** and ***
The transitional demands, then, must be framed while
- always holding up the ultimate goal of liberty as the desired end of the transitional process; and
- never taking steps, or using means, which explicitly or implicitly contradict that goal.”
Let’s do every we can to end the Fed now! On this, there can be no compromise.
*** end quote ***
Imagine a world with no Central Banks! Unimaginable? Think of the USA before 1913, and you can imagine that. Where “inflation” was negative. Real money — commodity money — circulated freely. Foreign coins, like the Spanish real, were used along side of gold and silver coins. Prices were always coming down. Want to save your old age, put some coins in a jar on the mantle like my paternal grandmother did — right under her rifle over the mantle.
The best argument against the FED or any central bank that “prints” money is that it allows the Gooferment to inflate the currency to pay for wars.

“I told you that ‘juvenile delinquent’ is a contradiction in terms. ‘Delinquent’ means ‘failing in duty.’ But duty is an adult virtue—indeed a juvenile becomes an adult when, and only when, he acquires a knowledge of duty and embraces it as dearer than the self-love he was born with. There never was, there cannot be a ‘juvenile delinquent.’ But for every juvenile criminal there are always one or more adult delinquents—people of mature years who either do not know their duty, or who, knowing it, fail.” ― Robert A. Heinlein, Starship Troopers

FEMA’s Real Purpose: Suppressing Americans And Preventing Civilian Organization
By Brandon Smith Alt-Market.us
October 24, 2024
*** begin quote ***
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) was founded on April 1st, 1979 under the Jimmy Carter Administration during the height of a nearly decade long stagflationary crisis and the Iranian oil crisis. Under Executive Order 12127, its stated goal was to centralize all disaster related efforts under a single top-down entity. Specifically, FEMA ended the more localized Civil Defense Agency, which was focused on community based emergency response, and it federalized all disaster coordination under a single top-down system controlled by the Oval Office.
*** and ***
We just witnessed a repeat of this behavior from FEMA and the affiliated agencies within their oversight. We saw local EMS being advised to prevent civilians from helping their communities. Supplies were once agaun being blocked, people with drones were being told not to help find survivors, people with helicopters are were threatened for helping save survivors and little aid reached Helene victims for weeks. Elon Musk’s Starlink was even been prevented from providing satellite internet services to affected regions until the story went national and the Department of Transportation was forced to address the problem.
*** and ***
I argue that this is all deliberate. FEMA and the federal government at large are still using Operation Garden Plot-like protocols with two goals in mind…
First, they are trying to acclimate the populace to the idea that civilians can’t help themselves and that they should do nothing. They do this by constantly interfering with civilian efforts and disrupting donations. If civilians are working on their own to save US communities from calamity then they might one day realize they don’t need the Federal Government for anything. The establishment NEEDS people to believe that they can’t survive without government aid and protection. Luckily, at least in the aftermath of Helene, it seems that many communities are working on their own to fix the situation.
If civilians start doing things for themselves, the establishment machine becomes obsolete.
Second, I suspect FEMA is testing the waters to see how much they can get away with. Katrina was a clear beta-test for martial law disguised as an emergency response. Katrina was Garden Plot and Rex-84 realized. They want to see what Americans will put up with. Helene is yet another opportunity for these agencies to apply overt control and see if Americans will conform or rebel.
*** end quote ***
Time to end FEMA, DHS, and bunch of other Federal Gooferment agencies.
People need to help each other and send the Federal Gooferment back to their offices. They just actively interfere with “We, The Sheeple” doing what they have done for eons — survive by helping each other.
Argh!

https://pagersdirect.net/pages/are-pagers-still-a-thing
Are pagers still a thing?
ARE PAGERS MAKING A COMEBACK…ARE THEY STILL A THING?
What???? Do Pagers even exist anymore?
Who’s still using pagers in 2024 and why?
*** begin quote ***
If you find yourself using a cell phone by itself and it works for you as most people do…That’s great, but if you are like the majority of our clients, you most likely have a specific task that a pager or pager app on a cell phone does even better than just texting or voicemail on their phone. Perhaps you have cell phone signal reception issues in your area or need another way for your IMPORTANT calls to get through and get your attention…whatever the reason, the people using pagers today have found specific niche reasons why a pager or pager app compliments their cell phone and smart watch.
Primarily, a separate pager phone number offers privacy and a means for urgent notifications that stand out above and beyond text messaging and helps differentiate a normal text or phone call from a high priority, urgent phone call.
In 2024, our clients are faced with some unique challenges and situations that didn’t exist even 5 years ago…
One example is robocalls / spam phone calls. Millions of junk phone calls are made daily. Some people are just fed up with getting calls from unknown numbers about their car warranty expiring or other scams and don’t even answer the phone when they see a number they don’t recognize. Today’s latest smartphone operating systems allow smartphones to silence calls from unknown callers and send the calls directly to voicemail. With this enabled, sometimes important calls are missed.
Another example is the banning of cellphones in schools. Want a simple way to be able to get in touch with your child and let them know of an urgent message such as a schedule change or emergency at home? Perhaps just a positive emotional reinforcement such as a “Good luck, You’ve got this” on the day of a big exam. Give them an alphanumeric pager and simply send a short email to the pager’s email address.
*** end quote ***
I found this “use case” very persuasive. I was thinking about school shootings. Schools are banning cell phones, but I don’t agree. Parents need to know their child is safe! I think of the victims — parent and child — saying “I love you”, “I’m coming for you”, even “Hide!”. Maybe I just don’t understand the problem.

I found this quote and it shocked me. Since VietNam, I’ve always been against war as a strategy or tactic. I’ve seen the two children of a VietNam vet die prematurely from the effects of Agent Orange on their father.
The “peace movement” during Nixon’s administration was mostly and astroturfed Communist / Democrat / Leftist attack on the conservative Republicans. It was inauthentic! When the D’s came to control the Gooferment, nothing changed. And, ever since the welfare / warfare state as delivered on what Ike warned about — perpetual war for the Military – Industrial – Congressional Complex. We have the deficits to show for it along with the debt and unfunded liabilities.
Maybe MLK, Gandhi, and Bob Murphy are right. Non-violence is the path to peace.

David Stockman on The Battle of The Liars… Trump Versus Harris and The Folly of UniParty Economics
by David Stockman
<< EDITOR ADDED DATE 2024-10-18>>
*** begin quote ***
The Dem candidate brags about 16 million new jobs on the Harris-Biden watch and Trump claims the Greatest Economy Ever—evidenced in part by low inflation that his successor purportedly blew sky high.
Both are lying. Both ignore crucial matters of context—such as stage of the business cycle, Fed policy actions, forces arising from the $105 trillion global economy in which US growth, jobs and inflation are inextricably rooted and the fact of lag times in transmission of Washington policy into economic outcomes.
*** and ***
In any event, the real culprits are the spenders and money-printers. And not surprisingly, both candidates want more of both.
Editor’s Note: The amount of money the US government spends on foreign aid, wars, the so-called intelligence community, and other aspects of foreign policy is enormous and ever-growing.
It’s an established trend in motion that is accelerating, and now approaching a breaking point. It could cause the most significant disaster since the 1930s.
*** end quote ***
I keep banging the drum on “debt, unfunded liabilities, and Gooferment deficit spending at all levels”.
The UniParty makes picking the “lesser of two evils” a frustratingly failed strategy.
As Tom Woods says “No matter who I vote for I get John McCain”. Sadly true.
All “We, The Sheeple” can do is prepare for the eventual collapse of the dollar when the debt becomes unrepeatable. Till then remember the old military directive “get small in your hole”.
As when I was counseling FOWG “turkeys” — Success for your generation is: (1) ruthless financial discipline — no bad debt; (2) a life long interest in learning — education — a degree — they can’t take it away from you; (3) a NON-OFFSHORABLE white collar job in order to save big bux; (4) a blue collar skill for hard times — never saw a poor plumber; (5) one or more internet based businesses — your store is always open; (6) a free time hobby that generates income; and (7) a large will-maintained network of people who can “help” you.
That’s the same advice for dealing with the UniParty’s economic disaster.

Emergency services were called to bushland in the Hunter Valley wine region earlier this month following reports of a woman being stuck between two boulders.
The NSW woman had tried to retrieve her phone from between the rocks but had slipped, fallen down a three-metre crevice, and was hanging upside down.

The broader rule goes on to address misleading advertising practices and provides other protections against deceptive negative option marketing. Most parts of the rule will go into effect 180 days after publication, giving businesses time to comply and avoid potential penalties.

When it comes to casino games? Here is the truth: You will lose after a few decisions or you’ll lose today or tonight or after a few days or finally at some time or other or after your very first bet never to get to the world of the winner.
The casino knows that too. And you should know that too if you understand how the casino structures the games to give themselves the edge.
Ultimately, life ends in a loss – the loss of you. So, enjoy your time in a sane way and don’t give yourself an impossible criterion to live up to. You have enough crazy things to live up to.
All the best in and out of the casinos!

The big idea: should we be thinking about luck differently?
- We tend to focus on good or bad fortune, successes and failures. But what about the fact you’re here at all?
David Spiegelhalter
Mon 7 Oct 2024 07.30 EDT
*** begin quote ***
Luck has been called “the operation of chance, taken personally”.
Luck comes in three main flavours. Philosophers have identified “circumstantial luck”, meaning being in the right place at the right time, or the wrong place at the wrong time – such as Stephen’s family taking that particular flight. Then there’s “resultant or outcome luck”, where in a particular situation some people have good and some have bad outcomes due to factors beyond their control. Stephen had the good resultant luck of surviving.
But perhaps the most important is “constitutive luck”, which covers all the fortunate or unfortunate circumstances of your very existence; the period of history in which you were born, your parents, background, genes and character traits. So where was Stephen’s constitutive luck? He told me that his father’s experiences in the RAF led him to insist that the family sat at the back of the plane – and the only survivors were seated at the back. He had the right parents.
*** end quote ***
A very philosophical view of luck.
How does that jibe with my experience?
My sainted passed wife of 40 years was always “lucky”. Especially in things with wheels or balls. I, otoh, was always “unlucky”. She used to tell me to “Go away and take your bad luck with you”! And, I did. She’d hit more often than not.
I always felt she had “precognition”. She would get upset before bad things happened (i.e., father’s death; car accident; my trip ’n’ fall).
So, I’m not sure how to define “luck” but I know I don’t have that “magic touch”

Japanese organization Nihon Hidankyo, a grassroots movement of atomic bomb survivors from Hiroshima and Nagasaki, won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday, in a warning to countries who have nuclear weapons not to use them.
Witnesses to the only two nuclear bombs ever to be used in conflict, members of the group, also known as Hibakusha, have dedicated their lives to the struggle for a nuclear-free world.

Using a nuclear bomb should be unthinkable. But when in a war and you’re losing, suddenly the unthinkable becomes very thinkable.
The USA Gooferment should IMMEDIATELY tell Ukraine and Israel that they will no longer supply money and weapons for their wars.
Russia, who much to my surprise, seems to be the “adult in the room” and has offered to negotiate peace.
Israel and the Arab world must come to the peace table. And. Since the Gooferment loves twisting arms so much, let that become their number 1 priority.
Finally, NATO, which has long outlived its intended purpose, should shut down and give everyone a “peace dividend”.

I have a of points at McD’s and other places. I’d like to donate them to Western North Carolina. Victims or responders don’t care. But no way to do it. Argh!

Mega Millions ticket price more than doubling to $5 — with promise of bigger jackpots and higher odds

Mega Millions tickets will more than double in cost next April from $2 to $5 a pop, lottery officials announced Monday, adding that the new price tag will come with higher cash prizes.
The price increase will come with greater odds of scoring bigger jackpots as part of a “mega overhaul” of the lottery launching in April 2025, Mega Millions said.

Sorry, but this is just a tax on people’s hopes and dreams. And the tax collector is the biggest winner.
I’d like to see the Gooferment make some regulations to bring back “fair play”.
- No taxes on winnings.
- No repayment of welfare benefits on any “small” winnings.
- No unclaimed prizes should go the Gooferment; throw it in the next pot for drawing,
- Strict regulation on “employee compensation”.
- Strict privacy for big winners.
- And all numbers from 0 to 99.
Then, maybe it would be “fair”.

Here’s Why You Shouldn’t Use iPhone Mirroring on a Corporate Mac
Wednesday October 9, 2024 4:31 am PDT by Tim Hardwick
*** begin quote ***
Apple’s new iPhone Mirroring feature in macOS Sequoia might seem like a convenient way to access your phone from your work computer, but security firm Sevco has uncovered a significant privacy risk that should make employees think twice before enabling this feature on company-owned Macs, at least for now.
*** and ***
When executed in a Terminal window that has been granted full disk access without setting up iPhone Mirroring, the command returns a normal list of macOS applications. But when executed in that same Terminal window after setting up iPhone Mirroring, it also returns personal iOS applications and metadata.
For employees, this means that apps they use privately could become visible to their employer’s IT department without their knowledge or consent. This could potentially reveal sensitive personal information, such as dating apps, health-related apps, or VPNs used in countries with restricted internet access.
*** end quote ***
Your employer, their network, and their tools should NEVER be used for your private purposes.
The easiest way to ensure that separation is to maintain a strict “air gap” (i.e., strictly never connecting anything by wire, bluetooth, or network wifi to something “corporate”).
If for no other reason than when your employer gets hit with a virus, ransomware, or some corporate security “tool”, then it would get your hardware in its grasp.
Argh!
Don’t forget that the employer can claim your hardware is suspect of having their data on it!

I’d say after Covid demonstrated the regulatory capture of the FDA, CDC, and NIH, that they are the tools of Big Pharma and just another source of advertising propaganda.
Instead of DOJ applying anti-trust break up to Google, like they did with AT&T and unsuccessfully with IBM, they should focus on BigPharma and the damage it does as a cartel.
Argh!

Ex-CBS News reporter says there’s ‘precedent’ for releasing full interview transcript — when it came to Donald Trump
By Ariel Zilber and Alexandra Steigrad

CBS News remained mum Wednesday amid mounting pressure to release the full transcript of Kamala Harris’ interview with “60 Minutes” — even as a former correspondent said there’s “precedent” for the network doing so when it came to Donald Trump.
Ex-CBS News reporter Catherine Herridge — who was laid off earlier this year as she investigated the Hunter Biden laptop scandal — said the network released the full, unedited transcript of her interview with Trump when he was president in 2020.
The Republican presidential candidate has demanded CBS News publish the full interview with Harris after accusations that the Tiffany Network edited her “word salad” answers during the sit-down with Bill Whitaker.
“As Trump campaign calls on @60Minutes to release ‘full, unedited transcript’ of Kamala Harris interview… There is precedent,” Herridge posted on X on Wednesday.
*** end quote ***
This demonstrates once again, like in the Hunter Biden laptop story, CBS and the rest of the corporate media is an arm of the Obama DNC.
Walter Cronkite, who was a shill too, at least pretended to be fair and balanced.
Argh!
No wonder the traditional media is being ignored.

Op-Ed: Americans Once Again Betrayed by Their Own Uncle Sam
Dale Glading
Cross-Posted from DaleGlading.com
*** begin quote ***
It may be the greatest betrayal of Americans by their own government in U.S. history, right up there with Congress raiding the Social Security “lockbox” to pay current expenses. In that latter instance, the $2.8 trillion surplus that the Social Security Administration amassed from the mid-1980s through 2020 has been invested in interest-bearing Treasury securities. In other words, by investing in T-bills, the SSA has loaned the federal government money for its general operating budget, money that will have to repaid to cover future benefits by borrowing even more money (with interest) down the road.
Got it?
As a result of that “rob Peter now to pay Paul later” mentality, Social Security is expected to deplete its trust fund by 2037, after which benefits will have to be reduced by approximately 25% for the program to remain solvent. That means that a government program that was built upon the shoulders of Baby Boomers in the workforce is projected to collapse when those same Boomers are fully retired.
Sounds like a Ponzi scheme on steroids to me.
<< EDITOR ADDED: Absolutely!>
*** and ***
Even worse, FEMA is now in no position to assist American citizens in the path of Milton because it mismanaged its $33 billion budget, only $20 billion of which is actually designated for major disaster relief. How incompetent, unconscionable, and unforgiveable is that?
By comparison, Samaritan’s Purse operates on a $1 billion annual budget and provides far more emergency relief in a far more effective manner. According to Christianity Today, “the organization’s 160,000-square-foot warehouse and offices in North Wilkesboro, NC employ 385 people who buy, repair, maintain and retrofit millions of dollars’ worth of medical equipment, generators and water filtration systems, much of them donated. The warehouse has six emergency field hospitals ready to ship, four with tents, hospital beds, anesthesiology equipment, X-ray machines, and surgical suites – all engineered to fold into a plane’s fuselage. There are also miles of plastic tarps, mountains of clothing and boxes full of small brown teddy bears with the Samaritan’s Purse logo – a cross inside a circle.”
*** and ***
And so, I suggest the following: impeach Secretary Mayorkas for a second time and turn the rest of FEMA’s annual operating budget over to Samaritan’s Purse.
*** end quote ***
Clearly, the Federal Gooferment is a complete failure in so many many dimensions. Time to start over. Let’s dissolve “The United States” into its component parts and let the individual States figure out the problem. Just declare bankruptcy and let the chips fall where they may.

Some poor soul had his front plate stolen. While it might have been an (old) prank, it’s more likely a prelude to criminal acts.
The consensus was that the following actions should be taken immediately:
STOLEN PLATE REACTION
- Police — make a report & get a copy
- DMV — get some documentation & new plates
- Insurance — make a report and change plate number
- Ezpass — make a report & if you’re an expats holder change plate number
I, for one, will start checking my plates every day.
