For long-term Google users, the new Google Pay is yet another annoying transition they’ll have to explain to friends and family. This is an occurrence that’s getting more frequent and more annoying in recent years, thanks to similar Google shutdowns of Google Play Music, Cloud Print, Inbox, Works with Nest, the ongoing Hangouts situation, and many others. That’s to say nothing of the crazy history of this payment service, which used to be Google Wallet, then Android Pay, then Google Pay, and now it’s a totally different Google Pay. There is one new feature in the new Google Pay. I swear I’m not making this up: new Google Pay is yet another Google messaging app! Once you add someone via their phone number, the three options are “Pay,” “Request,” and “Message.” The “Message” option will bring up a full messaging app with the usual back and forth replies, push notifications, and emoji support. You can even start a group chat!

Luckily, I never got into Google Pay. And, I dropped Google Fi for Altice’s unlimited mobile offering.

After trying to install it, and could not, I find out there are all sorts of problems.

* Doesn’t work with CHROMEBOOKS (No one mentioned that.)

* Doesn’t install easily

And there support site has many pages of questions form Users globally.

I was looking for a POGOPLUG replacement and I think I’ve bought a pig.

So fresh this morning, I took the cover off the big monitor.

I moved the Logitech camera usb directly to the computer. It worked. 

I reattached it to the same USB slot on my monitor. It worked.

Rebooted and it still works.

Last night, for dinner, because I’d stopped at Quik Chek #quickchek http://quickchek.com/StoreHome/89 for some Half & Half, I bought a ham sandwich with lettuce and russian dressing. It was almost inedible. In comparison to the sandwich I usually get at Wawa (#wawa Wawa #912), there was no comparison. Wawa allows you to get just the bread toasted. Quick Chek toasts something but I couldn’t figure out what; it was cold. The meat on the Quik Chek sandwich was just plopped on it as a mass; Wawa places individual slices. In fairness, Quik Chek does offer russian dressing; I don’t think Wawa does. I know Quik Chek charged me more than Wawa does, but I don’t have the receipts from each. Sigh! So FWIW, I won’t be buying subs from Quik Chek again. YMMV!

Looks interesting as a DROPBOX competitor.

I can’t tell if it uses real hard drive space. (It must.) 

So it’s behind DROPBOX. (You can tell DROPBOX that you don’t want a local copy.)

Also, it copies to the local drive all the docs on the GOOGLE_DOC account. (I don’t want them all on local. That’s why I put them up on GOOGLE in the first place Argh!)

GDRIVE puts down a “footprint” on your machine. I don’t know what all that crud it but in my case it’s two or three GIG!

Even uninstalling with APPCLEANER doesn’t remove the “footprints” (i.e., at least two directories with big files). One of which is PICASSA related if your believe the directory names.

I’d classify this as alpha software and leaving it the “bleeding edge” folks until it gets more exposure and “testing”. 

It’s imho NOT ready for prime time use.

NOTRECOMMENDED: WD MYBOOKFORMAC

IMHO this has been a technology disaster.

Not so much the device. I had that working in minutes.

In the accompanying software. What good is a backup device without the snazzy software that will make the backups painless.

Otherwise it’s just a USB Hard DIsk. Which is nice, but there are many on the market and many much cheaper.

I have a WD Go Flex that I bought without the snazzy software and use IBACKUP with.

During the “panic attacks” I feared for my data. And despite CARBONITE and DROPBOX and GOFLEXDRIVE, the TIMEMACHINE failure scared me. So I wanted more protection.

(I’ve done bare metal restores on WINDOZE and MACBOOKAIR, they are NOT pretty. Stuff never comes back 100%.)

I bought the MYBOOKFORMAC based on the box’s promise of simple complete backup. And, I got something that was Adobe Flash dependent and browser dependent. That’s not what I bargained for.

And, I may be wrong but in the “support email exchanges”, I think I was dealing with a softeware robot, not a real person, Even dial 1 800 a third world country is more honest. Did these guys watch WATSON on Jeopardy and think they can fool people?

Once again I apologize for the inconvenience. If you decide to return the product to the store you do not need an RMA number to get a credit refund from retailer. An RMA number is used for replacement purpose with our company. If you wish to get your money back for the product from store, this is something that is handled by the retailer you purchased the product. Western Digital does not refund back money to customers, if the drive is defective or needs replacement for some other reason, we proceed with RMA options.

If you wish to replace the drive, we have two warranty replacement options available to you, Advance RMA and Standard RMA. Both options are available online from our we bsite. In an Advance RMA, we will ship you the replacement drive prior to receiving your defective drive. A credit/debit card is required to insure against the receipt your defective drive. If we do not receive your drive 30 days from the date the replacement drive was shipped, the fair market value of the replacement drive will be charged/debited to your credit/debit card. In a Standard RMA, we will ship you the replacement drive only after we have received your defective product. No credit/debit card is required in a Standard RMA.

1. Once you receive the new Set Top Box, unplug the bad STB and power adapter and use the new STB and power adapter.

2. Then send back the bad Set Top Box using the supplied UPS shipping label and dropoff at the nearest UPS Store (www.theupsstore.com) or UPS Dropoff location.

I signed up for this a while ago. And, for a variety of reasons, forgot about it. Found some of my left over labels. Hey, let’s see if the service is still up.

Yup! I was. Yay!

So, I “registered” one. And, found out it forgot me. (?)

I don’t do phone in “customer non-service”. My blood pressure can’t stand it. It has to be really really important for me to endure that particular hell.

From what I remember, it only had one level of service. And, there was zero charge for recovery. (I know I had one.) Now before you “tag” any thing, make sure you’re willing to pay 50$ for it’s return. Argh!

I don’t like folks that suck you in and then change the game after you’ve bought in. I had to buy the labels. If they had presented this value equation, then I’d have passed.

GAVE THIS FEEDBACK TO APPLE. LET’S SEE WHO CARES. (My guess: No one.)

I have an obviously complex sync problem. The answer I’ve been given is move to a new account. The reason I went to mac was the reinstall blues with windoze. Seems like the same problem here. I’ve rated MAC as “Not Recommended” on my blog FWIW. And that won’t change as long as sync is broken.
