America Looks Richer Than Ever. What Happens When the Fed’s Asset Bubble Bursts?

by David Stockman

*** begin quote ***

The geniuses at the Fed, however, should not be confused at all. It’s all their handiwork.

In the land of the central bank printing presses, the rich do get richer, indeed, and not because they earned it on an honest free market operating based on sound money.

In fact, the chart above reflects the true failure of Greenspanian central banking. And when the massive inflationary bubbles embodied in this graph above finally do blow sky-high, don’t blame it on the free market.

In short, what amounts to free money has been the real culprit all along.

Editor’s Note: The Fed can inflate asset prices, but it can’t guarantee those gains will survive a crisis. The challenge for investors is to protect their savings—and recognize the opportunities that emerge when the bubble bursts.

Early in my college days, the class was assigned to read about the Dutch Tulip Bulb mania.

If you haven’t heard about it, then your “Economics” and “Investing” education is sorely lacking.  And you probably bet in the prediction markets, buy all the latest crypto, and a few lottery tickets with your spare change.

Basically, “Economics” is easy TANSTAAFL (“There Ain’t No Such Thing As A Free Lunch” From Robert Heinlein’s classic).  Everything is a trade off.  Do X and you can’t do Y.  Everything changes.

Equally simple, “Investing” is putting your capital (savings) at risk in the prospect of getting it returned with some added value.  If it’s “guaranteed to skyrocket to the moon”, then run away screaming “Ponzi”.  If it seems too good to be true, then it ain’t.

I can cite some of the great financial wizards and moral philosophers:

“If it doesn’t make sense, it’s not true.” — Judge Judy

“But there is no foole to the olde foole, folke saie.” — John Heywood’s 1546 glossary

“The art of getting riches consists very much of thrift.” —  Ben Franklin

“Patience is the companion of wisdom.” – St. Augustine of Hippo

“Price is what you pay; value is what you get.” – Warren Buffett

In summary, all empires end badly and it begins when they “counterfeit” the money.

I like to tell the story of when I visited to the Smithsonian, I saw a display of the French franc of Louis I to Louis XVII which went from a hockey puck of gold to a paper thin shirt button.

That’s the silent tax of “inflation”.  All you have to look at it is the total amount of money put in circulation by the Gooferment.  Sure they will hide it in all sorts of confusing numbers, but just add all the numbers up from year to year.

If you see a reasonable growth that matches our national productivity, then you’re safe.  But you won’t see that.

The USA until 1910, didn’t manage money.  Money was gold. Hard to fine and limited supply.  The effect was deflationary.  Prices DECLINED from the 1850’s to the 1910’s.  Then the FED came in and started printing.

Argh!

POLITICAL: Get Israel out of American politics

Tuesday, June 2, 2026

Tom Woods · PO Box 701447 · Saint Cloud, FL 34770 · USA

*** begin quote ***

David Stockman, Ronald Reagan’s director of the Office of Management and Budget, was even blunter than ol’ Woods:

In a peaceful, non-interventionist Republic, foreign countries would not spend tens of millions in one-off Congressional races because there would be no policy favors, fiscal lucre and military aids to lobby for. And AIPAC would not even exist, let alone be bragging about replacing the two greatest advocates of peace and liberty in the US Congress with two paid lackeys with their noses up the place in Bibi’s anatomy where the sun don’t shine. Bring the Empire Home. All of it.

*** end quote ***

I have become more painfully aware at the Israeli influence in our politics. The Massie race has magnified this to a point where it is unavoidable.

My hot buttons now are:

  1. Israeli political influence should be stopped
  2. AIPAC should be recognized as a adversarial organization
  3. Dual citizenship Congress members should be ejected and prohibited from running
  4. Naturalized citizens in Congress are not permitted to run for any political office
  5. The Military Industrial (Congressional) Complex
  6. Naturalized citizens who fight or pledge allegenice to a foreign country should be “denaturalized”
  7. American citizens who fight for a foreign country should be “uncitizenshiped”
  8. Those who commit felonies — green card holders deported and naturalized citizens “denaturalized”

POLITICAL: Why can’t we just declare “victory” and end the War on Drugs?

The Idiocy of Using a $200 Billion Navy to Enforce a 140× Cocaine Premium

by David Stockman

<< EDITOR ADDED DATE 2026-01-09>>

*** begin quote ***

Stated differently, the idiots behind Prohibition—from alcohol to cocaine and heroin—believe that they can win by defying the law of supply and demand.

*** and ***

And that gets us to the absurd economics of the so-called War on Drugs. In this case, we are talking about using hundreds of thousands of domestic law enforcement personal led by the DEA, thousands of Coast Guard and other border patrol and now $40 billion Navy carrier battle-groups to hunt down 312,000 pounds of a drug that is no more lethal than alcohol!

After all, the US governments at all levels spends an estimated $100 billion per year on the War on Drugs. So even if just 20% of that is directly against the cocaine traffic, that’s nearly $320,000 per pound of cocaine interdicted!

That’s surely stupid enough, but it’s not even the half of it. Spending that much on policing, interdiction and supply destruction drives the price skyward.

*** and ***

The folly described above is not an isolated mistake but a symptom of a system that no longer understands economics, incentives, or limits. An empire that misuses power abroad while debasing its currency at home inevitably reaches for coercion when the bill comes due.

*** end quote ***

Like Vietnam, the Gooferment should just leave the War on Drugs or the “(pseudo) War on (some) Drugs” by declaring “victory” and saying the problem is no longer “out of control” or “significant”.  We all know that the Gooferment is immoral, ineffective, and inefficient. As well as untrustworthy.  So why not let it “lie” its way out of a stupid policy?

ECONOMICS: UniParty is responsible for debt, unfunded liabilities, and Gooferment deficit spending

David Stockman on The Battle of The Liars… Trump Versus Harris and The Folly of UniParty Economics
by David Stockman

<< EDITOR ADDED DATE 2024-10-18>>

*** begin quote ***

The Dem candidate brags about 16 million new jobs on the Harris-Biden watch and Trump claims the Greatest Economy Ever—evidenced in part by low inflation that his successor purportedly blew sky high.

Both are lying. Both ignore crucial matters of context—such as stage of the business cycle, Fed policy actions, forces arising from the $105 trillion global economy in which US growth, jobs and inflation are inextricably rooted and the fact of lag times in transmission of Washington policy into economic outcomes.

*** and ***

In any event, the real culprits are the spenders and money-printers. And not surprisingly, both candidates want more of both.

Editor’s Note: The amount of money the US government spends on foreign aid, wars, the so-called intelligence community, and other aspects of foreign policy is enormous and ever-growing.

It’s an established trend in motion that is accelerating, and now approaching a breaking point. It could cause the most significant disaster since the 1930s.

*** end quote ***

I keep banging the drum on “debt, unfunded liabilities, and Gooferment deficit spending at all levels”.

The UniParty makes picking the “lesser of two evils” a frustratingly failed strategy.

As Tom Woods says “No matter who I vote for I get John McCain”.  Sadly true.

All “We, The Sheeple” can do is prepare for the eventual collapse of the dollar when the debt becomes unrepeatable.  Till then remember the old military directive “get small in your hole”.

As when I was counseling FOWG “turkeys”  —  Success for your generation is: (1) ruthless financial discipline — no bad debt; (2) a life long interest in learning — education — a degree — they can’t take it away from you; (3) a NON-OFFSHORABLE white collar job in order to save big bux; (4) a blue collar skill for hard times — never saw a poor plumber; (5) one or more internet based businesses — your store is always open; (6) a free time hobby that generates income; and (7) a large will-maintained network of people who can “help” you.

That’s the same advice for dealing with the UniParty’s economic disaster.
