How Much Money Do We Need?
by George F. Smith

*** begin quote ***

There will always be people who wish to live at the expense of others. Government does this through taxes and inflation – which is here used as an increase in the money supply – and in modern times, inflation, because it is generally misunderstood by the public, is a politically safer method of confiscation than taxes.

*** and ***

Fiat paper money regimes are not designed to promote a healthy economy. They are designed as a means of wealth distribution for the benefit of a few.

That probably doesn’t include you, and it definitely doesn’t include me.

*** end quote ***

It sure isn’t me!

Here in two paragraphs the author explains the problem with gooferment paper money.

I’m not sure how this all unwinds. We can see in history that: in France, the aristocrats lost their heads; in Germany, Hitler came to power; and in Zimbabwe, the people starve despite the fact that when it was Rhodesia it was Africa’s breadbasket.

As an “old guy”, I may not be here for the final act of this morality play. I think it’s going to make the Great Depression look like fun. All empires pass. And, the passing isn’t pretty for those in the empire.

Argh!

How do we fix it?

Civic virtue. Honest money. No more Ponzi schemes like Social Security. End welfare. End the Psuedo Drug War. Bring the troops home.

Will it happen?

I pray it will.

Many Gun Owners, the State and Media Agree; 2a Is No Longer Relevant
by Michael Gaddy

*** begin quote ***

When I decided to write this article, I did not contact the government, submit to a background check, submit fingerprints, take a government endorsed writing class and pay for permission. What is the difference in the exercise of my inalienable right to free speech and my inalienable right to keep and bear arms? The difference is: the state currently fears my ability to resist tyranny with a firearm more than with words, but as we can see from the reaction of the government and its media lackeys to the spoken objections to the tyranny of socialized medicine, that is about to change.

Luckily, rights are not up for “agreement”. They are “inalienable”.

Akron police investigate teen mob attack on family
By Phil Trexler
Beacon Journal staff writer
POSTED: 07:44 p.m. EDT, Jul 07, 2009

*** begin quote ***

Akron police say they aren’t ready to call it a hate crime or a gang initiation.

But to Marty Marshall, his wife and two kids, it seems pretty clear.

It came after a family night of celebrating America and freedom with a fireworks show at Firestone Stadium. Marshall, his family and two friends were gathered outside a friend’s home in South Akron.

Out of nowhere, the six were attacked by dozens of teenage boys, who shouted ”This is our world” and ”This is a black world” as they confronted Marshall and his family.

The Marshalls, who are white, say the crowd of teens who attacked them and two friends June 27 on Girard Street numbered close to 50. The teens were all black.

”This was almost like being a terrorist act,” Marshall said. ”And we allow this to go on in our neighborhoods?”

They said it started when one teen, without any words or warning, blindsided and assaulted Marshall’s friend as he stood outside with the others.

When Marshall, 39, jumped in, he found himself being attacked by the growing group of teens.

His daughter, Rachel, 15, who weighs about 90 pounds, tried to come to his rescue. The teens pushed her to the ground.

His wife, Yvonne, pushed their son, Donald, 14, into bushes to keep him protected.

”My thing is,” Marshall said, ”I didn’t want this, but I was in fear for my wife, my kids and my friends. I felt I had to stay out there to protect them, because those guys were just jumping, swinging fists and everything.

”I’m lucky. They didn’t break my ribs or bruise my ribs. I thank God, they concentrated on my thick head because I do have one. They were trying to take my head off my spine, basically.”

After several minutes of punches and kicks, the attack ended and the group ran off. The Marshalls’ two adult male friends were not seriously hurt.

”I don’t think I thought at that moment when I tried to jump in,” Rachel Marshall said. ”But when I was laying on the ground, I was just scared.”

Marshall was the most seriously injured. He suffered a concussion and multiple bruises to his head and eye. He said he spent five nights in the critical care unit at Akron General Medical Center.

The construction worker said he now fears for his family’s safety, and the thousands of dollars in medical bills he faces without insurance.

”I knew I was going to get beat, but not as bad as I did,” Marshall said. ”But I did it to protect my family. I didn’t have a choice. There was no need for this. We should be all getting along. But to me, it seems to be racist.”

Akron police are investigating. Right now, the case is not being classified as a racial hate crime. There were no other reports of victims assaulted by the group that night.

The department’s gang unit is involved in the investigation, police said.

”We don’t know if it’s a known gang, or just a group of kids,” police Lt. Rick Edwards said.

The Marshalls say they fear retaliation at home or when they go outside. They are considering arming themselves, but they’re concerned about the possible problems that come with guns.

For now, they are hoping police can bring them suspects. They believe they can identify several of the attackers.

”This makes you think about your freedom,” Marshall said. ”In all reality, where is your freedom when you have this going on?”

*** end quote ***

Instead of being unarmed victims, guns would have ended the attack in seconds. It’s no doubt that the attackers were using deadly force. If every adult and responsible teenager had a weapon, they could have defended themselves.

Then, I’m sure we would have seen Al Sharpton protesting that these were just innocent students out celebrating Obama’s election.

I find this very depressing. It’s the beginning of race riots.

The Second Amendment says these people have a RIGHT to keep and bear arms. To protect themselves.

What if they had killed the breadwinner. Now he’s stuck for medical bills as a crime victim. Society didn’t do a good job of protecting him for his allegiance. And liberal politicians take away our gun rights every change they get!

Argh, sheeple.

“The Supreme Court said Thursday that convicts have no constitutional right to test DNA evidence in hopes of proving their innocence long after they were found guilty of a crime. The decision may have limited impact because the federal government and 47 states already have laws that allow convicts some access to genetic evidence. Testing has led to the exoneration of at least 232 people who had been found guilty of murder, rape and other violent crimes.” (06/18/09)

Mass. is housing homeless in motels
Costing tax payers around $2 million per month

*** begin quote ***

MASSACHUSETTS (WPRI) – A record number of families are being put up in motels in Massachusetts. High unemployment and the rising number of home foreclosures is the reason the state is taking this action.

Housing Massachusetts’ homeless is costing tax payers around $2 million per month. It costs an average of $85 per night to have families, including nearly 1000 children, stay in motels.

The Interagency Council on Housing and Homelessness admits that the use of motels for the homeless is not ideal, but is the best that can be done at this time.

Homeless advocates are worried that families are not getting the support of shelters with living rooms, kitchens, and play areas.

*** end quote ***

MY COMMENT

Is it the role of the State Government to “shelter”? Is shelter a “right”? Remember where you say someone has a “right” that says you’re going to take a gun and force someone else to pay for it. As a little L libertarian, this is a function of families, churches, charities, fraternities, sororities, and other institutions. The  government becomes the gooferment when it tries to be all things to all people. It forces out “charity” with it’s high taxes. AND, the first thing it does is create a bureaucracy with a union. Note at the end: “homeless advocates” want shelters with living rooms and kitchens. Argh! And, who pays the “homeless advocates” for all this “advocating”? Am I the only one who has a problem with this?

In spite of warnings that submission to violent criminals only leads to their becoming more vicious, many liberals continue to advise not arming oneself to fight back, Their claim is that most people lack adequate training to fight back. It would be better to increase training.

Therefore the following is proposed as a change to publicly funded education (as long as we are stuck with public funded education.):

Students are to be trained in self defense with and without weapons from kindergarten through graduation from high school and even into undergraduate school in college. Besides instilling in people the necessary skills to defend themselves this should help instill the self confidence and independent spirit appropriate for members of a society of free people. It should also provide physical activity leading to pulmonary and cardiovascular health, greater physical strength, coordination, and flexibility.

Health care naysayers

*** begin quote ***

Republicans were out in force, trying to kill the kind of healthcare reform that Americans — if opinion polling is any indication — desire and expect. All are claiming to support reform, but none seem to be listening to the majority, which repeatedly says it wants a public plan as an alternative to the current system — and that it trusts the government to manage health care coverage better than the insurance companies.

*** end quote ***

MY RESPONSE

(1) Put me down as a naysayer. And, I am not an R. Nor am I a D.

(2) Hope you’re not relying on that NY Times “poll”. Non-partisan stats lookers find that they polled 66% D’s versus 33% R’s. Polling partisans isn’t really polling.

(3) While the insurances companies may not be the ideal gatekeeper of health care, do you really want some version of Amtrak or the Post Office doing it?

(4) How about some “baby steps”, to make sure that we don’t kill what we got, disconnect employment from health insurance. Allow health care to be tax deductible to the individual and treat it like life insurance. (Note: see how cheap life insurance is and how expensive health insurance is. Why is that?)

(5) When Hillary tried to nationalize health care, everyone saw it as socialism. (Which works so well else where.) Her methods turned everyone off. Here is is again. Methods are slightly more “open”. BUT again, like the bailouts, we are being hustled and rushed. DO it now! Can’t wait. That’s the clear sign of a scam.

(6) The Government can not be both the participant in and the referee in this future fiasco. It will set the rules and then “compete” in the marketplace. Please lets not fool ourselves. EVERYONE knows that the Left’s objective is to takeover healthcare. It’s always been that. They have even said that in leaked audios and video. Sometimes they even say it in rare moments of honesty. So let’s not kid ourselves. It’s the Communist Manifesto playbook. This is all about ensure Democratic voters forever. This is all about control. This is a giant scam!

Government is the meme that kills and enslaves its citizens.

True then; even truer now.

Although I’d suggest the Gun Owners of America as opposed to the NRA. The NRA accepts the concept of “reasonable gun regulation”. There is no “reasonable regulation” of ANY right! Either it is an “inalienable right” or it’s something subject to the whim of the Gooferment.

And, about Right to Life, or any “right”, you only have the “rights” that you are willing to fight for and exercise.

(The interesting point about the RKBA is that with concealed carry, you don’t have to carry to get a benefit. See the criminals have to guess who packing and who isn’t. Like sprinkling sheepdogs with big teeth in the flock of sheep. Quite a surprise for the wolves when they guess wrong. See “gun free zones” merely tell criminals that they have nothing to fear. We let the school janitor carry tools; the gun is nothing more than a tool.)

Like that Churchill quote! “…if you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.” -Churchill, The Second World War, vol. 1, The Gathering Storm (London: Cassell, 1948, 272, on the British guarantee to Poland in Spring 1939.

Health Care: Oppose greater government role. Support free market solutions

*** begin quote ***

Please oppose increased government involvement in health care. Please work to reduce government involvement in health care.

We can’t afford to lose what we have by further governmental meddling in health care. Go fix the VA and Medicare before you start messing up something that is at least working.

*** end quote ***

Before you create a worse problem, how about trying some small gentle corrections. How about making medical insurance tax deductible in reducing the gross income right on page 1 of the 1040 just like an IRA contribution? If you’re concerned about the “uninsured”, why not make that tax deduction and refundable tax credit paid directly to an insurance company? Why not offer your congressional health plan to an “uninsured”?

Bottom line, just like we wouldn’t have identity theft without social security numbers, we won’t have medical privacy if you “federalize” this problem. Stay out of our doctor’s office.

Don’t nationalize health care! We’ve seen Canada, England, and the VA. No thanks!

On the Anonymity of Home/Work Location Pairs

*** begin quote ***

“On the Anonymity of Home/Work Location Pairs,” by Philippe Golle and Kurt Partridge:

Many applications benefit from user location data, but location data raises privacy concerns. Anonymization can protect privacy, but identities can sometimes be inferred from supposedly anonymous data. This paper studies a new attack on the anonymity of location data. We show that if the approximate locations of an individual’s home and workplace can both be deduced from a location trace, then the median size of the individual’s anonymity set in the U.S. working population is 1, 21 and 34,980, for locations known at the granularity of a census block, census track and county respectively. The location data of people who live and work in different regions can be re-identified even more easily. Our results show that the threat of re-identification for location data is much greater when the individual’s home and work locations can both be deduced from the data. To preserve anonymity, we offer guidance for obfuscating location traces before they are disclosed.

*** end quote ***

Bruce Schneier highlights that “anonymous data” ain’t so anonymous. AND, the Census is going to collect geo tracking data in the next census. Good bye privacy.

GOVERNACIDE: Government Health Care? Think VA or Medicare!

Thursday, May 21, 2009

I suggest EVERYONE get active. Hillary tried to nationalize Healthcare; Obama is back to try again. I don’t know about you but I’ve seen the VA’s health care and Medicare. Canadians come to Buffalo for MRIs; it’s well documented that by the time a Canadian can get their “free” MRI, cancers have had time to metastasize and kill people. England has a booming “medical tourism” industry where the English go to India and the Far East for cheap medical care that they can’t get at home. Don’t forget that medical care is the classic economic service with an inelastic demand curve. (Demand isn’t very responsive to cost.) So, the only way that the government can control demand is with rationing. If you think that dealing with Insurance Companies is bad, try dealing with the Government. Sorry, the current system has problems, but imho they are caused by government at the State and Federal level. They have the FDA a captive of the drug companies, the AMA restrict who can “practice medicine”, and the Pharmacists have a monopoly on dispensing drug. Plus don’t forget the psuedo drug war. Sorry, but I need quality medical care for spouse. Remember, if Fritz had been in England, then he’d have been too old for dialyses. Rationing, like gas lines, will kill people. And, once “it” is started, like Social Security, Medicare, and the Medicare Drug Benefit, there will be no way to stop it. And, future generations will go broke paying for it. Argh!

How to Stop a Healthcare Hijack
By J. Robert Smith

*** begin quote ***

Stop an arcane parliamentary maneuver – “reconciliation” – and the odds improve at stopping the Democrats march toward socialized medicine. But Republicans can’t do it; not alone, anyway. It’s up to the legions of Tea Partiers and average Americans to win the fight.

Reconciliation is aimed at dramatically restricting debate and banning filibuster on budget-related matters. It allows for a simple up or down vote. Senate Democrats are keeping it as an option if progress lags in recasting healthcare as a government-run enterprise. A good bet is that they’ll invoke it. Why?

Because a thorough public airing and extensive Senate debate will expose the Democrats’ plan for what it is: a demolishing of the doctor-patient relationship in favor of a politician-bureaucrat driven system; and a system all about rationing.

Democrats are quick to say that Republicans used reconciliation when they were the majority. That’s true, but it was used principally to get up or down votes on lowering taxes, not upending a huge portion of the nation’s economy.

See the first thing that the media does is give you a label and then they can dismiss you.

My fear is that I guess, like FDR and Pearl Harbor, we’ll have to wait 50 years to find out that O was NOT a US citizen!

Just because they label you, doesn’t make you wrong.

All to often today, they denigrate people who ask, often too politely, WTF!

“Quo Warranto”

Or in my parlance, “sez who!”
See the essence of the argument is the prima facie case, “What are you hiding Mister Obama?”
Until that is answered, it is not moot. It’s a scandal!
So much for “running the most open and transparent government”!

The George Bailey Effect

By Larry Burkett

Editor’s note: The late Larry Burkett, popular Christian financial counselor and author, penned this article in 1998. It is a compelling “response” to Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s recent statement that the economy benefits from “family planning.” Joseph Slife contributed to this column.

*** begin quote ***

As the preceding evidence demonstrates, abortion is not simply a matter of private conscience, but of public concern. Abortion-on-demand has effects that are rippling throughout our society and could even threaten our future liberties.

This is why abortion, even if all moral arguments are totally discounted, cannot be ignored in framing public policy. Simply writing off abortion as a “moral” or a “religious” issue is a short-sighted approach that fails to reckon its economic and demographic consequences.

We can’t undo the past, of course. We can’t undo the fact that we have had 35 million George Baileys, people never born, people whose lives were never allowed to touch other lives. Indeed they have left an “awful hole.” But for the sake of our nation’s economic future and national security, as well as its moral character, we must resolve to promote from this time forward an ethic that is pro-family and pro-children. Only then can America continue to have a wonderful life.

*** end quote ***

When Pelosi and the Obama Democrat “liberals” advnace the pro-abortion agenda, everyone has to think of the “George Bailey” effect.

Have we aborted the future of America?

Like a self-imposed genocide.

POLITICAL: Where does the Ron Paul energy go?

Sunday, February 8, 2009

Where does the Ron Paul revolution (i.e., peace, nonintervention, economic freedom, personal liberty, sound money, and a drastically limited government) go?

The shell game of Republican and Democrat bigger gooferment prevents any other “choice”.

Argh!
