Fed policymakers are poised to raise interest rates at their March meeting and then continue raising them, in order to slow the economy. They fear that a labor shortage is pushing up wages, which in turn are pushing up prices – and that this wage-price spiral could get out of control.
It’s a huge mistake. Higher interest rates will harm millions of workers who will be involuntarily drafted into the inflation fight by losing jobs or long-overdue pay raises. There’s no “labor shortage” pushing up wages. There’s a shortage of good jobs paying adequate wages to support working families. Raising interest rates will worsen this shortage.
There’s no “wage-price spiral” either, even though Fed chief Jerome Powell has expressed concern about wage hikes pushing up prices. To the contrary, workers’ real wages have dropped because of inflation. Even though overall wages have climbed, they’ve failed to keep up with price increases – making most workers worse off in terms of the purchasing power of their dollars.

It’s a fact of life the at the FED’s 2% inflation target is a joke. The FED has debased the currency of 99% of its value with its “2% target”! But over and above that, the inflation has been robbing poor people, working slobs, and senior citizens on fixed income.
So maybe a good liberal like Reich might be enlisted into the “End The Fed” movement.
IMHO we need to go back to “real money” aka gold and silver.
Under hard money, prices go down and real wages go up naturally.

When did the Covid truth bubble break?
When Israel had a huge number of “breakthrough” deaths. When Florida didn’t have any spike in deaths despite not locking down and having a lot of old people there? When college and pro football stadiums were packed with people and no spike? When the Sturgis motorcycle rally didn’t result in anything with Covid.
Or was it when we saw pictures of politicians, bureaucrats, and “celebrities” frolicking without masks or “social distancing”.
So to here we have strong evidence that the “Standard American Diet” is a cause of all sorts of bad results — one of which is Alzheimer’s!

I had always objected to race-based affirmative action on the principle that it was illiberal and anti-meritocratic. Job hunting during the pandemic changed my objection. Suddenly, despite my principled opposition, a practical part of me wished that there was affirmative action for Middle Easterners. I did the least I could do, returning to my full name, “Khashayar,” instead of Shay, in job applications as a signal to recruiters or hiring managers that I’m not that white.
My experience is an illustration of centuries of migration and assimilation in America. Immigrants who came to America always wanted to be counted as white to receive the benefits of whiteness. Now that the tides are turning, immigrants—and their descendants—want a divorce from whiteness.
Benjamin Franklin infamously wrote that America should prioritize white immigrants. On this principle, he favored restricting the immigration of “swarthy” Germans. But Germans came here, nevertheless, and they eventually became white. The same is true of the Irish, the Italians, the Jews, and the Greeks. Just like my Middle Eastern forefathers, each of these groups tried to “become” white, and they eventually did.
That racial categories are so pliable shows how inane the entire concept of race is. My great aunt, with her blonde hair, blue eyes, and fair complexion, was born in northern Iran, but my “white” friend from Indiana with his olive skin would pass as white before her. The racial categories that we have become so attached to break down with even the slightest rational pushback, and yet we refuse to let them go.

Again again, “race” becomes such a obviously flawed perception and paradigm.
I just don’t know how to get the human “race” to move on to a better understanding of what makes humans different and what doesn’t.

SCITUATE, Mass. — Three fishermen who clung to debris in the frigid waters off the coast of Massachusetts for nearly an hour after their boat sank survived thanks to a sharp-eyed woman on shore who was the only person to call 911.
The 55-foot (16.75-meter) Bing Bing went down so fast about a mile (1.6 kilometers) from shore on Tuesday afternoon that the crew didn’t have time to don survival suits or even make a distress call.
“The whole boat flipped over; I was thrown in the water,” crew member Joe Roderick told WCVB-TV from his hospital bed, where he was recovering from hypothermia and from swallowing saltwater and diesel fuel. The other two crew members also required hospitalization.

Kudos to this lady, who saw something and said something. To save three souls is inspiring. The Talmud teaches, “He who saves a single life, saves the world entire.” Not exactly sure what that means, but I know there are three men who would agree.
From my fat old white guy injineer’s perspective, should not boats, especially commercial ones, have an automatic alert system? Sort of like an airliner’s black box or transponder. If the boat goes down, it should be calling for help with a location — no human intervention required.
In any event, these fellows were lucky she was “on duty” watching over them like an unseen Guardian Angel.
And, speaking up like this, about a life saving event, is certainly not being a “Karen” and the MYOB rule is not applicable in this situation. I am waiting for my turn to “save a life” or, even deliver a baby. (Have to not waste that USAF air survival training. Laugh!)
