LIZ WHEELER: Twelve Republican Senators Betrayed The Institution Of Marriage
OPINION
*** begin quote ***
First, the bill amounts to a direct assault upon religious liberty. The anti-Christian, anti-Jewish, anti-Muslim, anti-religion, anti-God, secular mob will undoubtedly use this law to target people of faith. They will target non-profit organizations. They will target churches. They will target religious schools. You won’t be able to conduct business under the premise of the biblical definition of marriage or you will likely come under fire. As Rachel Bovard at the Conservative Partnership Institute notes, it even creates a cultural justification for market institutions such as banks to discriminate against people with traditional views, dovetailing effectively with the advent of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) social credit scores that can and are being utilized to reduce or eliminate one’s access to financial services based upon social values.
*** and ***
Third — and perhaps most importantly — the bill will inherently become a legal catch-all for the Democratic Party’s radical progressive agenda, which hinges upon the deliberate Marxist goal of destroying the nuclear family and ultimately deconstructing our society’s moral fiber.
*** end quote ***
I fail to understand how the Gooferment — at any level — can “regulate” “marriage”.
We currently have partnership law. Anyone can form a legal partnership.
Where in the Constitution is there a Federal enumerated power to regulate “marriage”?
Just like SCOTUS said the Federal Gooferment has no role in aboirtion, so to it needs to declare the legislation as unconstitutional.

Joe Biden signs bill axing rail-worker sick days plea before royals meeting

*** begin quote ***
WASHINGTON — President Biden signed legislation Friday forcing railway unions to accept a labor agreement despite worker objections to a lack of paid sick days — hours before hobnobbing with visiting British royals.
Biden regularly calls himself the “most pro-union president” in history but asked Congress to intervene Monday, saying the US economy could not bear a railway shutdown.
*** end quote ***
Wonder where in the Constitution we find the Federal Gooferment’s power to force railway unions to accept a labor agreement?
I hope all the good Democratic unions are happy with their choice for President.

Judicial Watch: Defense Department Records Reveal U.S. Funding of Anthrax Laboratory Activities in Ukraine
- The records were obtained in response to a February 28, 2022, Judicial Watch Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency for records regarding the funding of Black & Veatch involving work of any manner with biosafety laboratories in the country of Ukraine.

Dozens of pages are completely redacted, and many others are heavily redacted. The records show over $11 million in funding for the Ukraine biolabs program in 2019.

Flood Insurance: A Modest Proposal
*** begin quote ***
All of this raises a simple question. What is the best way to deal with this sort of natural disaster? Where I live, it’s an inconvenience from which I can easily recover. That’s a lot like Tornado Alley where some people die each year, but most are unaffected. And even though California gets a lot of earthquakes, most people aren’t seriously affected and, contrary to Red State fever dreams, California won’t slide into the Pacific Ocean with the next temblor, thus favorably altering the political balance of the country. In short, there are natural challenges everywhere. But a few places are more challenged than others.
*** and ***
If every property owner had to purchase flood/hurricane insurance on an open market, it’s likely a lot would not be able to come up with the scratch. It would be just too rich for their blood. But in 1968, the Feds decided that it would be good to “help” out coastal communities. They would have to do some land use planning, but ultimately, the lure of higher local tax bases won out. Over time, subsidized rates became the norm as President Obama finalized them in 2014.
Subsidized flood insurance means that sensitive barrier island ecologies are disrupted by massive cancers of concrete, steel, and lumber. When a storm at sea leads to high waves and beach erosion, the State of Florida dumps millions of dollars harvested from inland on those beaches in the form of megatons of sand. “Someone’s home is about to be washed out to sea!”
*** and ***
We must get the government out of the flood insurance business. Stopping it overnight is probably a bad idea because current owners have a legal “reliance interest” in the program. So a stepwise approach must be found. The simplest approach might be called the “Hurricane Ian” solution. Every building wiped out by the storm would fall under this proposal.
If you lost your home or business due to the storm and were covered by Federal flood insurance, the Feds should pay you the full pre-storm value of the property, including the dirt. Then, the Feds would turn the property over to the state for full demolition and return to nature with a deed restriction that prevents construction on the site. Obviously, there would be an exception for basic park facilities such as parking lots and restrooms, but residences of any sort would be completely forbidden. In a subsequent storm, those would be relatively inexpensive and easy to rebuild.
In our current example, Sanibel Island would become a State Park nature preserve instead of a high-end residential community. The high rise resorts would go away, either because room rents were too high for most or because storm damage was severe. Much of Fort Myers Beach would undergo the same treatment. But neither area would be eligible for building.
*** and ***
The only losers in this approach would be the people who simply “can’t” give up their beach lifestyle and the municipalities that would see their tax base shrink. I’ll shed a few crocodile tears for them.
Ted Noel MD is a retired Anesthesiologist/Intensivist who podcasts and posts on social media as DoctorTed and @vidzette. His DoctorTed podcasts are available on many podcast channels.
*** end quote ***
I most heartily agree. And, while “taxation is theft”, we can never allow our search for liberty to get in the way of a good idea to get us “more freedom”.

California’s Water Supply Falls Victim to CRT
By Don A. Wright
*** begin quote ***
When did the board’s mandate change from a bureaucracy administering water rights to an arbitrator and avenger of perceived injustices? At exactly the same moment the people of California stopped holding their government accountable because they thought someone else would do it for them. It gets serious when your family’s food supply can be negatively impacted.
*** end quote ***
William Rusher, the editor of the conservative National Review, quoted economist Milton Friedman as saying that “if the government were to take over the Sahara Desert, there would be a shortage of sand in five years.”
Here we have a Gooferment taking over water and now there is a shortage?
Like anything else, the invisible hand of the fee market would do much better job of allocating a scarce resource. If folks paid for water and the price went up, the usual behavior would be conservation and alternatives.

Utter proof the FBI framed Trump and shielded Hunter
By Andrew C. McCarthy
October 12, 2022 9:19pm Updated
*** begin quote ***
More to the point, though, that the FBI offered to pay such an exorbitant sum in hopes Steele’s anti-Trump claims could be backed up is proof positive the bureau knew these claims were not verified.
That is key. The rules of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court and the Justice Department mandate the FBI must verify information before submitting it to the court in applying for surveillance warrants. Even though it could not prove the Steele allegations and had every reason to know they were exaggerated if not out-and-out false, the FBI relied on the Steele claims in sworn applications.
It gets worse. The FBI obtained FISC surveillance warrants to monitor former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page in October 2016 and mid-January 2017, representing to the court that Trump appeared to be in a corrupt conspiracy with the Kremlin. Finally, in late January, the FBI interviewed Danchenko, who debunked Steele’s reporting. Nevertheless, even after speaking with Danchenko, the bureau continued relying on Steele’s allegations when — again under oath — it persuaded the court to extend the surveillance in April and June 2017.
*** and ***
Of course, what the FBI didn’t mention was that what Danchenko had been “truthful and cooperative” about was the fact Steele’s claims were sheer nonsense. Thus, FISC judges were led to believe Danchenko had verified Steele’s reporting when the truth was just the opposite.
*** end quote ***
So when do we disband the FBI? And, send people to jail!
Argh!
Specifically, all those that testified and swore in the FISA courts should be convicted.
If they are lawyers, disbarred.
Starbucks may hire them.
Absolutely disgraceful.

Since its inception in 1934, The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has had regulatory power to oversee drug and medical products manufacturing processes and quality control to protect the public from unsafe products. Recent research revelations from career pharma insider whistleblowers Alexandra Latypova and Hedley Rees, however, provide chilling information on catastrophic safety and manufacturing oversight failures for the still-experimental COVID-19 injections that are linked to the skyrocketing deaths and complications around the world. Dr. Michael Yeadon, former Pfizer chief scientist worldwide for Respiratory Pharmacology, has reported that Pfizer documents showed the FDA knew of the death risks. Making the…

Several witnesses can be heard saying ‘call the police’, while one states: ‘Rob people and that’s what happens.’
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘Police were called to St Thomas Street, SE1 on 29 September at 15.17hrs to reports of a robbery.
‘It was reported that a woman had her phone stolen by a male who was then detained by members of the public.
‘When officers arrived a short time later, the male and members of the public had left the scene. The phone had been recovered and was back in the woman’s possession.
‘There have been no arrests. Enquiries continue.’

I found this interesting in that the public took care of the problem before the police responded.
Hopefully the thief got a few bruises to remind him of the error of his ways. Glad that none of the “first responders” apparently weren’t injured.

How a 100-year-old miscalculation drained the Colorado River
An epic drought in the West is drying up the river. But that’s only part of the story.
By Benji Jones@BenjiSJones Sep 23, 2022, 8:00am EDT
*** begin quote ***
In the early 20th century, the US Geological Survey sent out this guy named Eugene Clyde LaRue to try and measure the Colorado River. LaRue started to see that, beyond the time horizon that we’d been measuring the river so far [a couple of recent decades], there were some really big droughts. He concluded in a 1916 report that the river is subject to big droughts on timescales of 10-to-20 to 50-to-100 years. It doesn’t just stay wet.
The negotiators of the Colorado River Compact — the foundational document for figuring out how to divide up the river and decide who gets what — needed this information. They needed science. But they came together to figure this out without LaRue. They sidelined him. They ignored his science that said there’s been big droughts.
Instead, the negotiators looked at a much more recent period [of time] that had been extraordinarily and unusually wet. They said the river’s got plenty of water to build all these farms and to build all these cities. They just ignored the science because it was inconvenient.

In this case, the Gooferment was put in charge of water, and now there’s a shortage.
Totally predictable.
At the very least, if water had a price which kept rising as Lake Meade went down, the “free market” would have disciplined all the Users.
Instead “we” now have a major investment in Las Vegas for example, that is in a dessert.

Minnesota Fraud Scheme
Nearly 50 people in Minnesota have been charged with laundering an estimated $250M in pandemic relief aid, which was intended to provide meals to children from lower-income families. The case is the largest fraud scheme to take advantage of federal pandemic programs, the US Justice Department said yesterday.
Prosecutors claim 47 individuals tied to Minnesota-based nonprofit Feeding Our Future falsely reported serving tens of thousands of meals to children across 250 sites and sought reimbursement for the cost of those meals from the Department of Agriculture’s Federal Child Nutrition Program. The individuals then allegedly laundered the funds through shell companies to buy luxury cars, property, jewelry, and other personal items. They have been charged with conspiracy, wire fraud, money laundering, and bribery (see details).
To date, more than $8B in suspected pandemic fraud has been found, including in more than 1,500 criminal cases.

More Than $1 Billion Of Covid Stimulus Checks Went To Prison Inmates
*** begin quote ***
Prison inmates made out like bandits during the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to internal data provided by the IRS, more than 1.1 million incarcerated inmates received stimulus checks, totaling over $1.3 billion dollars.
In a letter obtained by the Washington Examiner, Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) said of the million incarcerated inmates, 163,000 of them were serving life sentences.
“It’s outrageous that those who inflicted pain on a family or community by committing a crime received a single dime from the government during the pandemic. If anything, the funds should have gone to the victims who would have been better served,” Bacon said.
As the country is facing dwelling inflation, the government doled out a massive amount of paychecks to people as the Biden administration refused to allow hard-working Americans make money of their own.

This ranks right up there with them sending stimulus checks to Norwegians who have never left Norway!

Nationwide secret police force?
This may be one way in which a socialist-like government may have begun America: covertly employ thousands or millions of people in the FBI or other national secret police entity who are told they are protecting America, while in reality they are merely being used to covertly stalk, harass, intimidate, and in some cases significantly harm or neutralize innocent persons.
This type of government employment would be much like being in the mafia: once a person is employed by the FBI or other government secret police entity, they “know too much” about the methods, technologies, and potential crimes of the FBI or other secret police entity.
Such persons would be fully dependent on the FBI or secret police for their monetary survival, and, due to “knowing too much,” would likely be unable to obtain employment elsewhere. The more people the FBI or other secret police entity employs, then the more people who are fully dependent on the specific type of government employment which may be nearly impossible to get out of. It is either do what the potentially corrupt boss says, or be without employment.

Wrightsville Beach renourishment project uncovers hundreds of thousands of tires in the ocean

Wrightsville Beach, N.C. — The shrinking shoreline at Wrightsville Beach is in desperate need of sand.
“We can’t get our ocean rescue vehicles from point A to point B in some places, because there’s just not enough beach,” Mayor Darryl Mills said.
Rebuilding that usually happens every three years is behind schedule. Officials said they have faced numerous challenges since the beach was last filled with fresh sand in 2018.
Wrightsville Beach has sourced its sand from nearby Masonboro Inlet since the 1960s, but a new interpretation of the Coastal Barrier Resources Act (CBRA), dictates that no federal dollars can be used to move sand from a CBRA-protected zone (Masonboro Inlet) to a non-CBRA zone (Wrightsville Beach). Wrightsville Beach’s renourishment is 100% federally-funded, according to local records.

The Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF) said it placed more than 600,000 tires off the North Carolina coast in the 1970s and early 1980s, but said it discontinued the practice in 1983.
“We don’t know the exact number of tires that were deployed back then,” said Patricia Smith, the Communications Director for the NC Division of Marine Fisheries. “Basically, the Division just doesn’t have reliable deployment records from that period.”
The artificial reef closest to the potential sand harvest location for Wrightsville Beach is called the Meares Harris Reef, located about 2.5 miles offshore and spanning 649 acres. That site includes other artificial reefs made of concrete pipes and tugboats that serve as fish habitats, but the aging tires are proving to be problematic.

FROM “Cafe Hayek”: Gary Galles helps us to better understand protectionism.

Helping Y’all Understand Protectionism
Gary M. Galles – July 22, 2022
*** begin quote ***
Protectionism provides special treatment for political favorites at the expense of others’ rights and well-being. In fact, it harms all American consumers not given special protection, by removing options they chose for themselves (as illustrated by the fact that undoing protectionist policies could lower prices paid by Americans at a time when rapid inflation is supposedly political topic number one), yet it persists.
*** end quote ***
Not only does it harm “others”; it trains “We, The Sheeple” that they can use Gooferment to live off other’s productivity.
Argh!

Scrutiny of Secret Service Builds Over Lost Jan. 6 Texts
The Secret Service is being pressed about missing text messages from Jan. 5 and Jan. 6, 2021. The Department of Homeland Security’s inspector general gave the Secret Service a deadline of Tuesday to review the text messages of 24 specific employees for material relating to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot — a request that turned up only one new text conversation. The Secret Service says that the majority of the texts in question were deleted as part of a pre-planned “device-replacement program” at the agency. The deletion reportedly came after the IG had requested electronic communications records…

Convent how the Gooferment politicians and bureaucrats don’t have to follow their own laws and regulations.
Now tell me that their carrier (AT&T, Verizon, somebody) doesn’t have copies of those texts?
I thing their Head IT honcho should be immediately fired.
Argh!

Who Knew That The Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Protects A Right To Abortion?
The Biden Administration is about to walk into another eviction moratorium debacle.
Josh Blackman | 7.19.2022 11:15 PM
*** begin quote ***
Politico reports that the Biden Administration has potentially settled on an executive-action response to Dobbs:
White House officials plotting the administration’s post-Roe response are weighing a narrow public health directive aimed at safeguarding nationwide access to abortion pills, three people familiar with the discussions told POLITICO.
The Biden team has zeroed in on that authority in recent days. They consider it the most feasible of the White House’s limited options for protecting abortion rights, and have concluded that it could have the most immediate on-the-ground impact while also quelling Democrats’ demands for stronger action. . . .
The proposal would rely on powers under the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness (PREP) Act reserved for public health emergencies to shield doctors, pharmacies and others from liability for providing abortion pills to people across the country — even those who live in states that have outlawed or severely restricted the procedure. .

Seems like this is a transparent attempt to circumvent overturn of Roe by executive diktat.
I would assume that SCOTUS would quickly take cases to set things straight.
And Red-State governors would “nullify” the Federal diktats.
Sigh!
Not like we have an real problems to work on like inflation and the backfiring of Russian sanctions.
Argh!

‘Many’ US Secret Service text messages written between January 5 and January 6 last year have been deleted, the Homeland Security Inspector General said in a stunning letter on Thursday. The messages were allegedly erased after the inspector general’s office asked the law enforcement office for electronic communications as part of its probe into the US Capitol attack. The letter, first obtained by CNN, is addressed to the top members of the House and Senate Homeland Security Committees. It states that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told its watchdog the messages were deleted ‘as part of a device-replacement program.’ The inspector general also accuses DHS employees of stonewalling requests for information until they were reviewed by the department’s lawyers. ‘This review led to weeks-long delays in [the inspector general’s office] obtaining records and created confusion over whether all records had been produced,’ the letter states.

Isn’t that convenient?
Who is getting charged or fire over the failure to retain Gooferment records?
I’d fire everyone in charge.
But then that’s how it’s done on Wall Street!

The Paperclip Was Used As a Symbol of Resistance During World War II
September 9, 2013 Emily Upton
*** begin quote ***
- The Norwegians found other ways to resist the Nazis, too. 12,000 of the teachers who were told to teach Nazism went on strike. 1000 of them were deported and sent to prison camps immediately, but after six months the remaining educators hadn’t relented, and the Nazis gave it up as a lost cause—having teachers out of the classroom was more detrimental to the war effort than having them in classrooms, but not teaching Nazi party ideals.
- Similarly, the churches that were told to teach “obedience to the leader and the state” found themselves in desperate need of people to lead church services. Every bishop in Norway resigned, along with 90% of the clergy. The humiliated German soldiers were forced to rescind the doctrine—another win for Norway.
- Meanwhile, the general public of Norway were waging a silent war of their own. In addition to donning paperclips, they made life difficult for the German soldiers in various subtle ways. Many of them refused to speak German, even though it was a widely known language at the time, and would point the soldiers in the wrong direction when telling them how to get from point A to point B. They refused to sit beside German soldiers when they rode on public transportation—an act of defiance that enraged the Germans so much that they made it illegal to stand on the bus if there were seats open.
- An illegal press was established in order to keep everyone informed after the Nazis attempted to cut Norway off from the BBC. When the German military began to conscript young men into the army, thousands fled to neighbouring Sweden to escape service. The Germans promptly withheld ration cards from those who didn’t sign up—at which point the resistance stole some 150,000 ration cards, and the military was forced to stop their efforts on that front.
- As for the Norwegian Jews, although 700 were shipped to Auschwitz, the remainder—1000 or more—were smuggled into Sweden by the resistance, which was no small accomplishment.
- Germany occupied Norway until the end of the war. Around 40,000 Norwegians were imprisoned during the interim, and over 10,000 lost their lives. Another 40,000 or so had escaped to Sweden and slowly began returning home when the Germans began to leave.

I would hope that “We, The Sheeple” would be as brave and corageous in resisting the tyranny of the Federal Gooferment

Phil Magness writes sensibly on his Facebook page:
I was never a fan of Abenomics for reasons that are probably not hard to deduce. That said, it’s useful to contrast NPR’s depiction of Shinzo Abe’s legacy in their assassination coverage (“divisive,” “ultranationalist”) with NPR’s generally reverential obituary for Fidel Castro, which buried any hint that he was a mass-murdering Marxist autocrat to the bottom of the article and even cast it as a “debated” part of his legacy.
It’s long past time to cut off any and all tax dollars from this dumpster fire of a news outlet.

We Should Immediately End Nationalized Funding of Student Tuition
By Jerome Corsi
*** begin quote ***
On March 30, 2010, Obama signed the Health Care and Education Act charging the U.S. Department of Education to make 100 percent of all government-funded college loans, effective on July 1 of that year. In 2010, student loan debt totaled $760 billion. In 2022, the total outstanding student loan debt will more than double to a record $1.7 trillion. In 2017, a study by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York concluded that “more federal aid to students enables colleges to raise tuition more.” Raising U.S. higher education tuition costs to a level middle-class families cannot afford is not a problem as long as the government makes the taxpayer pay the price.
*** end quote ***
It’s Unconstitutional for starters.
The Gooferment is immoral, ineffective, and inefficient. As well as untrustworthy.
We once criticized Communist countries for their indoctrination camps; failing to recognize that the Gooferment Skrules here are the same thing.
