I was reading the third book in Ian Toll’s War in the Pacific Trilogy the other day. There was a segment on the decision to invade Formosa or the Philippines.
Here is a quote:
“On August 18, 1944, Nimitz estimated that the operation (Invasion of Taiwan) would require 505,000 army troops, 154,000 marines, and 61,000 navy shore personnel.”
So, assuming that modern warfare doesn’t require the same number of troops and the Taiwanese will not “fight to the last man” as the Japanese would…let’s cut those numbers in half.
How is China going to move 325,000 troops across the Straits of Taiwan? It took the US three years of almost unstopped work to get the transports and landing craft to do that. Plus two years of hard earned practice. And no country has accomplished that since the Korean War—where we still had the men and equipment to do it.
No..China is not invading Taiwan any time soon.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen just admitted what the rest of Americans already knew: high prices are here to stay. Example? Food prices (CPI) are up over 20% under Inflation Joe while gasoline prices are up 38% under Clueless Joe. On the housing front, the Case-Shiller National Home Price Index is up 33.2% under Biden. And Freddie Mac’s 3-year mortgage rate is up 154% under Biden’s leadership (c’mon man! Obama is pulling the strings on Puppet Joe). Speaking during an interview with ABC News Live over the weekend, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen admitted prices aren’t going down, contradicting arguments repeatedly made…

Ukrainian-born model winning Miss Japan re-ignites identity debate

Ai Wada, the organiser of the Miss Japan Grand Prix pageant told the BBC that judges had chosen Ms Shin as the winner with “full confidence”.
“She speaks and writes in beautiful and polite Japanese,” Ms Wada said. “She is more Japanese than we are.”
Ms Shiino had announced in Instagram earlier last year when she received Japanese nationality, saying that she “may not look Japanese”, but her mind had “become Japanese” because she had grown up in Japan.

I immediately remembered: “‘Pusher’ Ross: Well, you tell ‘im. You talk better English than I do!”.
The organizer’s quote just struck me as funny.
What makes someone “Japanese”?
Or an “American” for that matter. I’d like to believe that it’s a desire for freedom and liberty to “be all that you can be”. Some how that ethic has been lost on many native born Americans. As demonstrated by those from China and India that arrive with little or nothing and within a few decades they are “prosperous”. But those born here with the same opportunities or even more never can rise from a self-inflicted poverty.
I’m sure that the Gooferment “welfare” — handouts that are enough to starve — blunts any ambition.
So sad that one has to be “Japanese” to win a beauty contest in Japan but not “ambitious” to be an “American”.

Wife of killer Kenneth Eugene Smith ‘cried out’ during his historic 22-minute-long nitrogen execution – which witness described as ‘horrific’ as he thrashed and ‘convulsed’ on gurney

The wife of Kenneth Eugene Smith cried out for her killer husband as he thrashed against his restraints, suffering as he became the first person in history to be executed via nitrogen hypoxia.
Smith, 58, was put to death Thursday in a ‘horrific’ 22-minute ordeal when a gas mask was placed over his face, before a stream of 100 percent nitrogen gas suffocated him inside the execution chamber at the William C. Holman prison in Atmore, Alabama.
The murderer’s spiritual guide, Jeff Hood, described the execution as the ‘worst thing’ he had ever seen, claiming prison officials gasped in shock as he died far slower than anticipated.
*** end quote ***
As a pro-life little L libertarian, I find this horrifying.
The Gooferment should never EVER be allowed to kill people. How can we differentiate between those that MIGHT ‘deserve it” and those who the Gooferment deems do “deserve it” because of their opinions, life style, or religion.
On a philosophical or moral level, the Gooferment can NOT be trusted with this “power”.
As a practical matter, the only time that it should have this power is when a convict is to dangerous to the prison guards. Then, and only then, should the Gooferment be able to seek permission from a jury.
Think Hanible Lector or a convict who kills a prison guard or another inmate. Maybe even a convict who assaults or rapes might deserve this “eternal reward”.
Now consider the manner of death in this specific instance of “nitrogen suffocation”, Can anyone truthfully say this is not “cruel and unusual punishment” that is prohibited by Constitutional Amendment? Shame on us for allowing it.
As reprehensible as Smith was, we as a society should be ashamed.

Tenured Professors Fired in Sweeping Layoffs
By Kyla Guilfoil, Senior Writer
*** begin quote ***
According to faculty sources, the administration told departments roughly what they could expect would be cut from their departments. Therefore, it became clear to several departments that certain professors would be fired based on the “Last In, First Out” metric. For example, faculty member sources described that a department would be told they would need to lose two faculty members and it was then clear to those two employees most recently hired that they would likely be let go.
Because of this, several employees decided to take the voluntary separation agreements, on the basis that they believed they would likely be fired anyways in the coming semester, faculty sources told The Quadrangle.
On the other hand, more senior employees, including many tenured professors, believed they were safe in their jobs and would not be on the chopping block during the current academic year. Faculty sources told The Quadrangle that this made the tenured terminations, given mid-year, even more shocking.
*** end quote ***
I guess that this should be inscribed on great monuments to complacency: “they believed they were safe”.
Guess they never read that parable about the lion and the gazelle?
“Every morning a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter whether you are a lion or a gazelle: when the sun comes up, you’d better be running.” This African proverb was reproduced in Thomas Friedman’s book The World is Flat.
I always preached that anyone in a “corporate job” had one objective — find their next job.
Whenever I started a new job, the first thing I would do was update my resume and send it to all my friends and headhunters. Loyalty? Like the old canard says: “Don’t Kill Yourself For A Job That Would Replace You Within 2 Weeks If You Dropped Dead” — Anthony ‘AJ’ Joiner
Loyalty is for spouses, family, and friends; not corporations.
A College is nothing more than corporation that takes money and produces “entertainment”.
Sad to say, but that’s how I see it.

FROM TOM WOODS’ NEWSLETTER
*** begin quote ***
I haven’t yet seen his interview with Tucker Carlson, but Darren J. Beattie just published this commentary on Twitter about a video clip that Congressman Thomas Massie’s office just released.
It tells us something very revealing about January 6 and the alleged “pipe bomb.” That, in turn, raises very disturbing questions.
You should read it.
So I’ve reproduced it for you:
Below, courtesy of Thomas Massie, is the most damning and explosive J6 footage yet released.
In my view this will end up demolishing the Regime’s J6 narrative and with it a major pillar of Dem’s 2024 strategy.
You paying attention, Kamala?
This footage shows the discovery of the pipe bomb at a bench outside the DNC headquarters.
This first clips shows that at approximately 1:05 a man in a backpack approaches a Metro PD SUV and a black Secret Service SUV informing them of the pipe bomb’s presence.
Interestingly, recent report from @TPC4USA reveals this man in the back pack is a plainclothes Capitol Police officer.
Here’s the first sign things are a bit out of the ordinary. After being informed of a pipe bomb feet away, the metro PD authorities (who are technically on the Secret Service detail) take over a minute before they even bother getting out of their car!
Now things are really getting weird. Take a look at this clip, and note how casually the Metro PD and Secret Service operations lounge about after being informed of the pipe bomb feet away.
There’s absolutely zero concern for their own safety, or that of their protectee — VP Kamala Harris.
Toward the end of the clip you see a pedestrian walk by — they didn’t warn him there was a bomb feet away?
Incredibly bizarre and damning.
In this clip we see whoever is manning the Capitol Police cameras finally responds to the information regarding the pipe bomb, and zooms into the benches where the pipe bomb was planted.
Notice the empty coffee cup on the bench right next to the pipe bomb. January 6 was a very windy day and it’s unlikely an empty coffee cup would have lasted on that bench for long before getting blown away. Someone had been sitting there recently…perhaps the plainclothes officer
Can’t say this definitively but it appears 11 second into this clip that you can briefly catch the timer on the pipe bomb in view….?
If the nonchalance of the Secret Service seemed weird before, now it gets downright scandalous.
In this clip we not only see a bunch of Secret Service agents standing in close proximity to the pipe bomb, we see a group of CHILDREN cross the street toward the location of the bomb, ultimately walking within feet of it.
The Secret Service don’t bother to warn the children of the bomb.
Either these Secret Service agents were utterly concerned with the life of their protectee Kamala Harris, the lives of the children, and their own lives, or they somehow knew the pipe bomb was a DUD.
But how on earth would they know that?
We know that the DNC pipe bomb was dismantled by a bomb-safe robot.
How could one possibly explain this scenario in which the bomb is considered safe enough to allow children to walk within feet of it, and yet it requires a bomb safe robot to “defuse it”?
Minutes later a Capitol Police officer walks right up to the bomb and snaps a photo of it, gives a thumbs-up signal, and everyone leaves quickly thereafter.
Weirdly, the Secret Service behavior after the Capitol police officer takes a picture of the bomb is the fastest we’ve seen them move the entire time!
…Now we have to confront some very disturbing questions.
We’ve seen the bizarre and damning video in which the Secret Service respond with total lack of concern upon being informed of the bomb — unconcerned for themselves, for their protectee Kamala Harris, and even for children they allowed to walk within feet of the bomb.
Clearly they knew the bomb was a dud…but how?
Nonetheless as we’ve said they went through the motions of “dismantling” the bomb with a bomb-safe robot.
And what about Kamala Harris, who was being protected by the Secret Service?
Well, she actively covered up the fact she was in the DNC building for over a year — to the point of allowing the DOJ to falsely stipulate that she was in the Capitol in certain Jan 6 indictments.
Why on EARTH would Kamala Harris cover this up — she still hasn’t acknowledged it!
Think about that for a second — the first VP woman of color came within a hairs width of losing her life to the deadly MAGA explosives device — and for some reason she doesn’t want to milk that politically?
Joe Biden gave a whole speech on the third anniversary of January 6th and failed to mention that his own VP was within feet of the deadly MAGA bomb?
This makes zero sense.
If we add the inexplicable reaction of Kamala’s Secret Service to the pipe bomb, to Kamala’s inexplicable cover-up of the fact she was at the DNC during January 6th when the pipe bomb was there, [we arrive at] the following:
The only close footage the FBI has made public of the pipe bomber at the DNC site is security footage from the DNC.
We at Revolver News have shown DEFINITIVELY that that footage is both tampered with, and that the FBI is withholding footage from the camera angle that would actually show the bomber planting the bomb.
Here we show that the DNC surveillance footage is completely corrupted to prevent us from having a clear shot of the suspect.
Here we PROVE the FBI is withholding critical footage that would show whether or not the pipe bomber planted the bomb when they said he/she did.
Why is the DNC so uninterested in finding out who this DNC pipe bomber is? Why has Kamala Harris covered up her presence at the DNC on Jan 6?
Of course we’ve only scratched the surface.
Something tells me the “conspiracy theorists” are about to be vindicated for the thousandth time in a row.
*** end quote ***
“Tampered video”, “somehow knew the pipe bomb was a DUD”, and “uninterested in finding out who this DNC pipe bomber” are all telltale signs of a “good” conspiracy theory.
Time to clean house!
*** begin quote ***
The FBI must come forward with the whole truth, immediately. If they will not, then Republicans have a duty to tear the FBI down to its foundation, and ensure that no government organization is allowed to amass this kind of power ever again.” — Charlie Kirk

“WOW okay so the most amazing thing just happened to me and I can’t help but share it with the world. American Airlines instituted a new policy where you have to pay to take a carry-on onto the plane. Which is ridiculous but off topic.
I consolidate my bags into one and they measure it and say it’s just a little too big. They proceed to charge me $50, except they only take credit card, no cash. Since I just got back from Europe all my cards are being declined as Chase doesn’t know I’m back.
They tell me that I’m going to have to miss the flight and head back to the ticket counter to pay down there. I’m pleading, devastated after a long day of travel. Then, this man walks up and says, “How much is it?” They tell him $50 and he says “I got it.”
I’m astonished and tell him it’s fine not to worry and he hands the lady his card as the American Airlines employees stand in silence shocked by this man’s generosity. They swipe the card and he tells me to have a great flight and hop on board.
I’m crying as I write this and as I board the flight. This man was an angel. I stop him as he’s sitting in first class and try to give him my money but he just shook me off and told me to pay it forward.
My heart is so happy. There are good people in this world. Be that person for someone because I know after this I sure will be.” 💕

Tammy Nobles, the mother of 20-year-old Kayla Hamilton, argues in her $100 million lawsuit that both the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Health and Human Services failed her daughter by allowing the unidentified migrant into the country without confirming his identity.

The Electric Vehicle Scam is a Symptom of Western Decline

But I got to say something about the Electric Vehicle scam. It is bad for the environment. The rare earth minerals needed to produce these extravagances requires mining operations that exploit the very poorest people on the earth. And, despite all the nifty technology that adorns these electric vehicles, they can’t handle the cold.
*** and ***
The push in the West to eliminate fossil fuels and “replace them” with this so-called clean energy would be a damn funny joke if the consequences of these decisions were not so serious. Wealthy liberals who virtue signal by driving their Tesla believe they are smart, but fail to contemplate how the energy is produced to power these expensive turkeys. Most owners infatuated with EV technology failed to consider the fact that the batteries that power these expensive golf carts will eventually need to be replaced. Elon Musk insists they will last 20 years, but that prediction is not based on evidence. It is a scientific guess. If you do have to replace it expect to shell out an additional $25,000 dollars for the battery. That does not include the labor costs of installing a new one.
*** end quote ***
I particularly like all the useful idiots who think that “electricity” comes from the plug in the wall. Not a care in the world as to what is behind that plug. Like the old “tea break” power outages in the UK when everyone would plug in their kettles during a TV commercial break, what happens when everyone comes home from work and plugs in their electric car?
The saddest part of the story is the exploitation of the poorest people on Earth to mine the rare earths.

I used preach that there are no “bad” decisions. First, not making a decision is really a decision in disguise. Second, you ALWAYS make the “best” decision you can based on all the dikw (i.e., data, information, knowledge, wisdom) available. Some of those “best” decisions turn out to be “wrong” in retrospect. Usually due to insufficient data, wrong information, missing knowledge, or a lack of wisdom. Just because a decision turns out badly does NOT make it “wrong”. That’s why it’s always important to do an After Action Report and Lessons Learned.
I really wish I’d done more but again that was a human failing on my part not to learn from my “mistakes”. Hope you do better than I did.
