NH State HouseLibertarians Had Major Successes in NH 2016 Elections

*** begin quote ***

The national election is just a sideshow. Nothing of substance in DC will change in the next four years and I predict Trump will ultimately disappoint those who think he’s somehow an “outsider” or “anti-establishment”. Meanwhile, the left is MAD and secession will grow into a serious idea for many of them as they begin to see the value in breaking away from the United States. Indeed, Californians already held a #CalExit rally on the Sacramento statehouse grounds today!

*** end quote ***

I am pleased to have been part in this epic victory.

Maybe New Hampshire can lead the way to a “new” Libertarian Party as the “Party of Principle” and the “Party of Peace”?

Remember, Remember the Fifth of November, 2016

by Ian

As thousands are gathering in the streets in London around the world for the “Million Mask March“, donning Guy Fawkes masks (popularized by the excellent movie, “V for Vendetta”), it’s important to remember that Guy Fawkes was not a hero. Fawkes was willing to commit violence against people to forward his cause. While many libertarians may feel the government deserves violence in response to their violent, depraved acts, here at the Free Keeneblog, we’re committed to peaceful evolution.

Violence may appear to work in the short-term, but ultimately all it does is justify the ever-increasing police state in the minds of the state actors and their supporters. Violence also brings you down to the level of the state – that’s the tool they use. We should not want to be like them. There are a myriad of peaceful solutions to moving liberty ahead in our lifetime – the most powerful of which is to concentrate liberty-minded activists in one geographic area – New Hampshire. Another major solution is to end New Hampshire’s involvement in the federal government.

To that end, for the fourth time in about a month, V-mask wearing activistsgathered in Keene’s Central Square to demonstrate in favor of New Hampshire declaring peaceful independence from the United States. Normally our response from drivers and passers-by is very positive, but today people were even more excited and interested. We had at least a dozen people take photos of us from their cars or while walking around, plus one guy from Massachusetts even parked and came up to shoot video of us. People in New Hampshire love the idea of independence and setting NH free from the evil United States federal government!

Let’s keep the conversation going. If you’re new to secession, check out some of the info from the Foundation for New Hampshire Independence to learn more about why it’s the best idea for a bright, prosperous, and free future.

One can only hope, that like the USSR, Granite Staters would be allowed to peacefully leave “These United States of America”. Or, the USA empire.

The right of self-determination should be recognized as an inherent human right.

Unfortunately, there are powerful interests that like the situation — the warfare / welfare state — just the way it is now.

How does Joe or Jane Sixpack get off the merry go round?

TECHNOLOGY: Tom Woods reports that academia and old media is ignored

Saturday, November 12, 2016

*** begin quote ***

I’m just Mr. Good News lately.

This week I reported on falling profits at the New York Times, as well as my car giveaway (I’m giving away a 2017 Kia Soul, as you know from yesterday’s email).

And today it’s this:

American academics have zero impact on anything.

Five different people sent me an article on this today. It made me happy.

American academia is dominated by left-liberalism. Some good work is done. Lots of forgettable, insignificant, or insane work is done.

And most of it, thank heavens, is not read.

Some 82 percent of articles in professional humanities journals have not been cited even once, ever.

It’s estimated that the typical academic journal article is read by no more than 10 people. In some fields, that’s actually a vast overestimate.

As academia has become more and more isolated from the normal experiences of regular Americans, so too have professors begun to offer fewer and fewer policy recommendations.

In the 1930s and 1940s, 20 percent of articles in the American Political Science Review focused on policy recommendations. Now 0.3 percent do.

And that’s all to the good, if you ask me.

The New York Times is hemorrhaging ad revenue, and nobody is listening to the left-liberal academic echo chamber.

Now go celebrate.

VETERANS: The Color of War and “war crimes”

Friday, November 11, 2016

http://www.infocobuild.com/books-and-films/social-science/the-color-of-war.html

The Color of War

The Color of War is a History Channel documentary series narrated by Peter Coyote, presenting fresh perspectives on the day-to-day experience of World War II. Using a striking assemblage of color footage and photographs from national archives and private collections, the Color of War opens fresh perspectives on the day-to-day from every possible front. From the first draftees thrown into the breach to the sheer boredom between battles to the uniforms worn and the objects carried, this unparalleled saga is further illuminated by letters and diaries, communiques from the battlefield, and the sounds and songs of the era.

VETERANS: Celebrate Armistice Day; not Veterans Day!

Friday, November 11, 2016

Why politicians hate Armistice Day but love Veterans Day Retweet

By Perry Willis

Veterans Day is Friday, November 11th. It used to be called Armistice Day. It was a day that remembered the moment when the First World War ended on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918. Armistice Day was a valuable holiday. It constantly reminded people of the biggest mistake that politicians ever made… Armistice Day to celebrate "no more war"

A world war fought over absolutely nothing!

Alas, the politicians could not abide such a reminder of their own folly, and so Armistice Day was eventually changed to something the politicians could exploit — Veterans Day. Whereas Armistice Day highlighted the dangers of militarism and interventionism, Veterans Day promotes these schemes. Yes, the holiday includes appreciation for soldiers past and present, but it’s also used by politicians to tell…

A Big Lie

Politicians exploit Veterans Day (and Memorial Day too) to claim that they used our soldiers to defend freedom. But is that really true? We’re going to stress-test this claim between now and November 11th. We’ll review our wars and interventions one-by-one and ask the following questions…

  • Was the war necessary to defend America?
  • Did the politicians use our veterans to defend freedom or harm freedom?
  • Did the war make things better or worse?

We believe the evidence is overwhelming that the politicians’ wars have…

  • Made America less safe
  • Harmed freedom
  • Made the world worse, on balance
  • Injured and destroyed veterans for little benefit

But you’ll be be able to judge for yourself as we present the evidence. We do this because…

We want to prevent the loss of more young lives in useless wars

Alas, experience has taught us that we’re not allowed to speak the truth on Veterans Day or Memorial Day. It’s okay to lie about our wars on those days. The lies are greeted with enthusiasm. But the truth is met with howls of outrage and shouted down. And so…

If the truth must be silent on Veterans Day and Memorial Day, that’s all the more reason for it to be proclaimed loudly on the days before. That’s what we intend to do between now and November 11th.

If our case convinces you, please share it with others. Start a conversation about the correct way to honor veterans and the war dead. We believe it should be possible to honor their courage and mourn their loss, without telling lies about how they were used. We hope you’ll consider our case in the days ahead.

  • The area around Fukushima’s reactor was evacuated in April 2011 and is still cordoned off to the public

The Real Reasons Why James Comey Reopened the Hillary Investigation
By Joachim Hagopian

Finally, diGenova dropped one more bombshell in Friday’s interview. An inside source has revealed to him that the laptops belonging to key Clinton aides Cheryl Mills and Heather Samuelson, both wrongly  granted immunity, were not destroyed after all as previously reported, but have been secretly kept intact by investigating FBI agents refusing to destroy incriminating evidence as part of the in-house whitewash. Additionally like their boss, Hillary’s aides also sent classified material using private servers. On top of that, longtime aide Cheryl Mills on multiple occasions has perjured herself lying under oath for the Clinton crime family, tasked with “cleaning up” (aka covering up) their countless scandals over the past several decades. Indeed the whole Clinton entourage not already “mysteriously” winding up in the growing Clinton dead pool are all unindicted criminals protected by the corrosively corrupt DC cronyism where backroom deals (a la Bill’s airport ambush) are brokered based on whatever dirt’s been gathered and used as bargaining blackmail chips against all parties involved. That’s how the Washington crowd stays immune from any and all accountability as well as stays alive. Violate that crime syndicate code of conduct and you lose your life as more recent victims earlier this year have.

NEW YORK –  For four years, people have worked hard and mostly successfully to erase the deep scars Superstorm Sandy left on the New York and New Jersey coastlines when it crashed ashore with deadly force on Oct. 29, 2012.

But recovery will never come to Oakwood Beach, among several places along the coast that have seen permanent changes wrought by the storm.

*** and ***

In Seaside Heights, made infamous by the MTV reality show “Jersey Shore,” authorities still plan to rebuild an amusement park that had its roller coaster swept into the surf by the storm. But the town gave up on returning the park to a pier that jutted out into the water, opting instead for a new location on the beach.

Seaside Heights NJ 08751 will never be the same. It may never regain it past “glory”. Even though it survived MTV’s “Jersey Shore” reality show — where Brooklyn studs and sluts were portrayed as “Jerzee”. Argh!

Neither the citizens of nor the taxpayers to the “Borough of Seaside Heights” were ever polled. In fact, continuing a town tradition of rule by the elite, in the days after the storm, property “owners” were prevented from reentry. Who knows what happened during those weeks? But we do know from news footage that the boardwalk owners met often with the “town officials” about what would happen.

The Lone Ranger finishes off his whiskey, slams down the glass, turns around and says, “It’s my horse. Why do you want to know?”

The cowboy looks at him and says, “Well, your horse is standing out there in the sun and he don’t look too good.”

The Lone Ranger and Tonto run outside and they see that Silver is in bad shape, suffering from heat exhaustion. The Loan Ranger moves his horse into the shade and gets a bucket of water. He then pours some of the water over the horse and gives the rest to Silver to drink. It is then he notices that there isn’t a breeze so he asks Tonto if he would start running around Silver to get some air flowing and perhaps cool him down.

Being a faithful friend, Tonto starts running around Silver. The Lone Ranger stands there for a bit then realizes there is not much more he can do, so he goes back into the bar and orders another whiskey.

After a bit a cowboy walks in and says, “Who’s white horse is that outside?”

Slowly the Lone Ranger turns around and says, “That is my horse, what is wrong with him now?”

“Nothing,” replies the cowboy, “I just wanted to let you know that you left your Injun running.”

VETERANS: VA Suicide Hotlines Abandoned

Wednesday, November 2, 2016

VA Suicide Hotlines Abandoned – source National Review On-Line

World Suicide Prevention Week recently came and went invisibly-again. Society these days seems more emotionally investing in facilitating suicides of the ill and disabled than preventing theirs and those of other despairing people. But preventing the suicides of our military veterans has been one of the few exceptions, with a great deal of time and energy devoted the prevention cause.

Alas, VA bureaucrats apparently remain indifferent to the suicide prevention cause with 1/3 of the calls to hotlines going unanswered. According to a CBS story:

– More than one-third of calls to a suicide hotline for troubled veterans are not being answered by front-line staffers because of poor work habits and other problems at VA, according to the hotline’s former director.

– Some hotline workers handle fewer than five calls per day and leave before their shifts end, even as crisis calls have increased sharply in recent years, said Greg Hughes, the former director of V A’s V eterans Crisis Line.

– Hughes said in an internal email that some crisis line staffers “spend very little time on the phone or engaged in assigned productive activity.” Coverage at the crisis line suffers “because we have staff that routinely request to leave early,” he said.

Is it any wonder people are rapidly losing faith in our institutions?

HARDWARE: My first night with a BPAP machine

Sunday, October 30, 2016

For those that know me, I don’t sleep well. And, evidently, I was getting worse.

I bought a FITBIT Surge for the “sleep stats” it would give me. Being an ingineer, I like “evidence based” decisions.

The initial results were troubling — 100+ steps in my sleep, terrible awake / restless numbers, and the “heart rate” was in the 80 to 120 range. The pattern continued.

FITBIT 1 1FITBIT 1

So off to the doc I went.

After an initial visit and screening, a sleep study was ordered.

(Giant PIA)

That reported that I had very bad sleep apnea where I was over “60”. That meant I was breathing 60+ times per hour. (That’s scary!)

http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/sleep-apnea/basics/definition/con-20020286

So a machine was ordered.

I was pretty skeptical until a friend related her relative’s experience — untreated, diagnosed later with a n enlarged heart due to the struggle to supply oxygenated blood to the body, he went on to heart problems with a long list of drugs, complications, and hospitalizations, leading to eventual death from a heart attack.

That got my attention.

So, what were my “results” from the first night?

2016 10Oct 27 FITBIT 12016 10Oct 27 FITBIT 2

I’d say that was a dramatic improvement.

I’d agree that having a “headset on your nose” is a “pain in the a double q”, but it seems worthwhile.

SO, for those that snore, here’s some anecdotal evidence that you should look into it further.

LIBERTARIAN: Little L libertarianism in ten questions and answers

Friday, October 28, 2016

http://us7.campaign-archive2.com/?u=a62f6d3a19ffbd4c6852a4c85&id=7c6e8c527d&e=da6c31a530

A new worldview in ten questions and answers

By Perry Willis

1. What is crime?

Crime is the initiation of force or fraud against others.

2. What is government?

Government, properly understood, has one primary function — to use force defensively to fight criminals, foreign or domestic.

3. What is The State?

The State is an institution that commits crimes (initiates force) under the guise of providing governance. As such, The State is the opposite of government. Therefore, to be pro-government you must be anti-state.

4. What is a statist?

statist is a person who advocates statism (see the next question).

5. What is statism?

Statism is the belief that it’s okay for The State to commit crimes (initiate force) so long as the statist favors the purpose of the crime. In other words, to the statist, his or her good intentions justify the use of criminal means.

6. What do libertarians want?

Libertarians want legitimate government. That means institutions of governance that only use force defensively. To a voluntaryist libertarian this means…

All government must be voluntarily funded, and anyone can compete to provide governmental services. For instance…

  • You could pay the city police to patrol your neighborhood, or you could a hire a firm to do it.
  • You could decide to only use drugs that undergo FDA testing, or you could prefer products certified by Underwriters Laboratory, NSF, or some other testing company.
  • You could give your money to HUD, or Habitat for Humanity, or some other cause entirely.

7. Why would this work better?

Violence-based funding insulates statist institutions from the need to perform well. They get paid whether they do a good job or not. Even worse, they actually get increased budgets when they fail. Voluntary funding and competition would compel governmental institutions to do a good job. This approach would give us consumer controlled government, instead of political government.

8. What’s the difference between political government and consumer controlled government?

You have far more power as a consumer than as a voter. You can fire any company at any time, but with political government you must gain the permission of a majority of your neighbors to cause any change. Consumer controlled government will give more people more of what they want more often. It will commit crimes against no one. Consumer controlled government is superior, both morally and practically.

9. What if voluntary funding doesn’t provide enough money?

The question is backward. The amount of government needed should be determined by what people are willing to fund, NOT by what politicians want to impose.

10.. What is the path to such a society?

Resolve to initiate force against no one, personally or politically. Pursue your goals and promote your preferences using only non-violent persuasion and voluntary cooperation.

Does this way of thinking intrigue you? Want to learn more or participate in creating such a society? Then google the Zero Aggression Project.

  • The $350 million building has also begun to tilt –  and now has a six-inch lean at the top of the tower
  • Leaked documents show the city’s Department of Building Inspection and developer Millennium Partners were aware it was sinking faster than anticipated before it opened in late 2009 but didn’t make it public
  • Engineers hired to assess the problem have said that it shows no immediate sign of stopping

Pamela Buttery noticed something peculiar six years ago while practicing golf putting in her 57th-floor apartment at the luxurious building. The ball kept veering to the same corner of her living room.

Those were the first signs for residents of the sleek, mirrored high-rise that something was wrong.

‘What concerns me most is the tilting,’ says Buttery, 76, a retired real estate developer. ‘Is it safe to stay here? For how long?’

Wow, there’s a “engineering blunder” as Brother Austin Barry would say.

I assume that the lawsuits will begin immediately!

Feel sorry for anyone who bought one after it was discovered but before it became public knowledge.

Argh!

LIBERTY: What liberals and conservatives really mean!

A Brief Synopsis by Cathy L.Z. Smith

*** begin quote ***

The liberals meant that they knew better how to run my life, that their hearts were better and more compassionate than mine, and that what was mine was actually theirs to distribute to those their hearts they deemed worthy.

The conservatives meant that they knew better how to run my life, that their minds were better and more productive than mine, and that what was mine was actually theirs to distribute to those their minds they deemed worthy.

Soon true and so sad.

People should be allowed to run their own lives and accept the consequences of their actions.

End the “(pseudo) War on (some) Drugs”!

GUNS: HRC is coming for the guns. Molon labe!

Hillary Clinton: “Reasonable” to Require Guns to be Unusable at Home
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2016

*** begin quote **

The candidate who claimed politicians “need both a public and a private position” on policy issues demonstrated that tendency Wednesday night in the final presidential debate in a desperate bid for damage control on a statement she made in a private meeting with wealthy donors.

That earlier statement was simple, uncomplicated, and utterly damning to anyone who believes in the Second Amendment. Hillary Clinton told the very people who she depends on to fund her political ambitions: “the Supreme Court is wrong on the Second Amendment. And I am going to make that case every chance I get.”

As a Yale-educated attorney, Clinton knew exactly what she was saying when she made that remark. But it doesn’t take a lawyer to understand the contempt it demonstrates for the right to keep and bear arms.

*** and ***

First, the District’s ban didn’t just require safe storage to prevent access by toddlers. It made possessing a loaded, usable firearm in the home – including for self-defense – a crime. The crime did not require proof of access by children or even proof that children were present in the home. Clinton’s answer also seemed suspiciously coincidental with a recent, dubious media blitz on firearm accidents among children.

The Second Amendment is the true palladium of liberty.

Document 7

St. George Tucker, Blackstone’s Commentaries 1:App. 300
1803

This may be considered as the true palladium of liberty. . . . The right of self defence is the first law of nature: in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any colour or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction.

*** end quote ***

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? . . .” — Alexander Solzhenitsyn
