In the Orlando tragedy, the man who killed 49 and wounded 53 used a handgun and a rifle. The handgun accepted magazines containing 17 bullets, and the rifle accepted magazines containing 30 bullets. The killer, using both weapons, fired more than 250 times last Sunday morning. That means he reloaded his weapons about a dozen times. Each time he reloaded, he stopped shooting, as it is impossible for any person to shoot and reload simultaneously.

We know from forensics that the killer was a poor shot. We can deduce from that knowledge that he was a slow reloader. One learns to shoot first and reload later. It is likely that it took between three and seven seconds each time he reloaded the handgun and longer with the rifle. In those time periods, any trained person carrying a handgun in that Orlando nightclub could have wounded or killed him — and stopped the slaughter.

In all the angst and turmoil over all these “mass shootings”, the shooter has to reload. And, that takes time.

Even unarmed, the victims need to be courageous and take action.

Of course, it’s easier if armed. Even if that “arm” is just a swiss army knife, that MAY be enough to turn the tide of the battle. Even win the “war”. A knife to the neck can distract anyone.

Even though I’m not the example of the “trained shooter”, I can hit the center ring at 50 yards reliably. And, if I use the whole magazine, then I’m positively sure I can put one of them in the center ring. I hope that I can do as well “under fire”. If the killer is such a poor shooter, then it’s obvious he has practiced as much as the “average enthusiast”.

As the Judge points out that “gun free zones” ensures that it won’t be “free of guns”. Just guns in the possession of lawbreakers.

It seems like this is an OBVIOUS violation of Federal law and should at least be investigated. Since those involved seem proud of their actions, maybe they can explain it to a judge?

I agree that the tactical decision made by the shooter was “dumb” and could have turned out badly.

But, we need to think clearly who are the “victims” of “violence”.

A South Carolina teenager left home alone used his mother’s gun to shoot and kill a burglar, authorities said Tuesday.

Fox Carolina reported that deputies responded to a report of shots fired at a home in Ladson Tuesday shortly before 2 p.m. EST Tuesday. When they arrived, they found the unidentified 13-year-old boy and asked him to come out of the home. 

The boy said he heard a vehicle pull up behind his house, then heard someone trying get inside a few minutes later. At that point, the teen picked up his mother’s gun and went to the back door of the home.
Authorities said the boy told them he fired the gun through the door and the person outside fired back.

The boy fired several more shots, apparently wounding the suspect. According to Fox Carolina, neighbors reported hearing gunshots before seeing a gray car pull out near the home and speed away.

While I don’t advocate firing thru doors at unidentified targets, this time it seemed to work out.

It’d be interesting if there were pictures of all involved and their criminal records. I’d be willing to bet that this is not the first time these two miscreants pulled this off.

Every child in America should know how to handle a gun safely. As well as other tools, like chainsaws, knives, drills, saws. It’s just another tool.

As a little L libertarian, I’m a porcupine. Cute and cuddly if you don’t mind a few quills when you attack. We’re not going to initiate a fight, but we will finish it.

This young man did a great public service. No way of knowing what other harms he has prevented. Hope he can live with the resulting PTSD.

Having lived most of my life in the Pepuls Republik of Nu Jerzee and worked in the Pepuls Republik of Nu Jerk, I’ve been “trained” to be unarmed. 

Luckily, I never was hurt. Harmed by crime several times. Mostly petty thefts from my car.

As I get older and, possibly a little wiser, I realize I was lucky. As big guy, a vet, and with some street smarts, trouble may have passed me by for easier pickings. Now as a poor old senior citizen on a fixed income, I’m probably a target. 

I want to defend myself so I can steal back all that “social security” that was stolen from me by the Gooferment.

I was pursuing my Conceal Carry license in Virginia when I was downsized. Now I realize it’s my Constitutional God-give right to carry.

One of my first projects in New Hampshire is to located a range, complete my training, and begin packing.

President Obama wants us to politicize gun deaths in America. I decided to take him up on his invitation.

I hope that no one is surprised that Obama took this opportunity again to attack guns, the gun industry, and those of us who are fans of the Second Amendment. This is what a community organizing career politician does. For liberals like Obama, virtually everything is political, or must be made so. Because political problems require political solutions, and thus, when something is politicized, those in favor of empowering and growing government get to do what they do best: give speeches, call for legislation, and attempt to stir up the electorate in their favor.

General Manager Steven Alcairo said the shop’s owners finally threw in the towel after years of what they consider being unfairly targeted with burdensome rules and regulations. Past regulations have required the shop to bar ads and displays from its windows and install cameras and barriers around its exterior. The shop has 17 cameras as it is, and turns video over to police on request, he said.

Family Dogs Save Child From Backyard Bear
One canine sustains bite to face, leg after scaring off bruin in Long Valley, NJ.

A pack of family dogs intervened when a bear began approaching a three-year-old in her own backyard Wednesday morning, with one canine sustaining injuries to the face and leg before scaring off the wild animal.

Wagner’s daughter was outside with one of the family dogs, a rescue pup named Chief, when the mom heard her child scream.

“I looked up and the bear was about 15 feet from her and walking right toward her,” she said. “The bear was between us. Chief heard her scream and immediately grabbed the bear’s back leg, at which point the bear turned and bit Chief’s face and leg.”

It was then the other three dogs, all Pit bulls and also rescues, ran to assist Chief while Wagner grabbed her daughter. The bear was chased off, back over the fence and ultimately up a tree in the woods.

After discussions with Washington Township’s Mayor Bill Roehrich, and the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife, Wagner learned it may take a while before the neighborhood bear is no longer climbing her fence.

“We’re not allowed to kill the bear – not that we want to – and if he injures a dog they give the bear the benefit of the doubt and say it’s in self-defense,” Wagner said. “They won’t trap and relocate the bear, but will shoot it with rubber bullets and then release it back into the area.”

In order for the bear to be taken away and euthanized, it must commit a “category one” offense, where it tries to enter a home or shows aggression like charging or attacking, and even then it’s only if the action is done toward humans, not pets.
