Mayer Terminates Yahoo’s Remote Employee Policy
Posted by timothy on Saturday February 23, @11:34AM

An anonymous reader writes
“AllThingsD’s Kara Swisher reported and tweeted that Marissa Mayer (CEO since July 2012) has just sent an all-hands email ending Yahoo’s policy of allowing remote employees. Hundreds of workers have been given the choice: start showing up for work at HQ (which would require relocation in many cases), or resign. (They can forget about Yahoo advice pieces like this). Mayer has also been putting her stamp on Yahoo’s new home page, which was rolled out Wednesday.”

HAD lunch with the bride-elect and the groom-to-be. And spare, spare’s lovely gal pal, Mom, and H.

Argh!

Makes me feel very very old.

Too bad Our Girl was called away early, I KNOW she’d have been joyous.

Tentative calendar entry 10-1x-2014!

Mozel Tov!

(Wonder if the wedding meme is contagious among eligible young women? Like when the hold babies, suddenly each one wants one of their own? It’s like the biological clock goes into a spin cycle! Similar to male menopause and sympathetic pregnancy?)

Two diverse memes!

MONEY: This economy, and lack of political fiscal discipline, is hardest on the poor

Why is Wal-Mart worried? Payroll tax could cut consumer spending. (+video)
Recent reports forecast lower spending for this year, anticipating that the restored payroll tax will impact consumers’ wallets, especially low-income earners. Wal-Mart is adjusting its strategy.

By Husna Haq, Correspondent / February 22, 2013

*** begin quote ***

“It’s a big deal,” says Morgan Housley, a macroeconomic analyst with Motley Fool, an online financial education website. “The biggest impact is on lower-income households since the payroll tax is regressive, only applying to the first $113,000 of income. Wealthier households don’t feel the same pinch because the tax doesn’t hit all of their income. Lower-income households also spend a larger share of their income than wealthier consumers.… Low-income families are in one of the toughest spots they’ve been in since 2009.”

*** end quote ***

Anyone believe a less that 2% cpi?

Not me!

RANT: the recent cruise ship debacle

Sunday, February 24, 2013

In reflecting about the cruise ship disabled, with a bunch of Americans aboard, was anyone as surprised that the US Navy did put anything alongside them. Like a capital ship capable of succor, support, or escue?

Maybe they did and it wasn’t reported?

Shocks me!

FUN: Found the drivers license I misplaced

Saturday, February 23, 2013

I know I am ready for the home.

Remember I misplaced my new DL about a week after getting it?

Found it today!

Three guesses where.

Nope, nope, nope … … give up?

BEHIND the toilet?

How it got there I have no idea?

How long it could have remained there is an “interesting” question.

Argh!

Now where is my cellphone?

Behind the spare tire in the car? There is a spare tire in the car, right? They still have those.

Just the other day, I went to the gas station, got a gallon of gas for 30 cents, and the attended washed the windows … …

… … in my dreams!

Argh!

Maybe I am in the home and this is all a dream?

Are we having pudding after dinner?

Argh!

Drone Blowback?

Posted by Lew Rockwell on February 21, 2013 07:50 PM

Writes Jack Douglas:

The US plans to use drones to spy and kill everywhere. They forget that something so simple and cheap can become a deadly weapon against  a Global Empire that is exposed worldwide, maybe a guerrilla war-winning weapon like the IED’s in Iraq and Afghanistan, but much smaller, hard to detect, and cheap.

Everyone forgets about the asymetrical nature of warfare.

An advantage never lasts very long!

And imagine what small drones could do against the US civil aviation?

MONEY: Default is unavoildable

Tuesday, February 19, 2013

http://lewrockwell.com/north/north1264.html

—  begin quote —

Will the federal government default? Yes. Will investors learn their lesson? Not for long. But for a time, yes.

Here is the lesson: Do not trust a politician who says America cannot, must not, and will not default.

Here is the rule: “Never believe a rumor until it is officially denied by the government.”

Obama has officially denied it.

It’s coming.

— end quote —

Regardless of how you define “default”, what the FED is doing in buying debt with more paper, is de facto default.

So what the individual to do?

Buy assets that are not dollar denominated.

Bullion coins are my favorite. Nickles too.

Diversify. Pay off debt. And “get small in your hole”. (Any vet knows what that means!)

RANT: The Press is BHO44’s bitch

Monday, February 18, 2013

THe President gets away from the Press for a golf weekend.

Other than Tiger, what fat cats were with him?

Enquiring minds what to know. What deals were struck? What promises were exchanged?

Where are the yellow dog journalists that like Woodward and Bernstein drive on the truth no matter what the cost?

Oh year, Nixon was an R and Obama is a D!

More complaints about “transparency”!

–30–

And WMAL radio reported this morning that the “pool reporters had an off-the-record meeting with the President”. The point was who authorized them to agree to “off-the-record”?

My question is WHY was the Press precluded from its normal coverage (as with past Presidents)?

POLITICS: What was BHO44 doing during Benghazi-gate?

Monday, February 18, 2013

Today on WMAL their political reporter asked a very simple question: what was BHO44 doing during the whole Benghazi event?

I’d add what was Hilary (HRC) doing?

The American Press demonstrates how biased they are since if it was an R we would hear this every day!

Facebook Gets a Multibillion-Dollar Tax Break

By Peter Coy on February 15, 2013

It hasn’t drawn much attention, but Facebook’s first annual earnings report contains an accounting gem: a multibillion-dollar tax deduction for the cost of executive stock options and share awards.

Even though Facebook (FB) reported $1.1 billion in pre-tax profits from U.S. operations in 2012, it will probably pay zero federal and state taxes—and even receive a federal tax refund of about $429 million—according to a Feb. 14 statement from Citizens for Tax Justice.

The tax-research and -lobbying organization says companies such as Facebook should treat stock options the same in their reports to shareholders as they do in their tax filings. Citizens for Tax Justice calls the tax footnotes in Facebook’s Jan. 30 financial statement “an amazing admission,” but there’s nothing illegal about the breaks the company is claiming. Companies like Facebook are allowed to treat the cost of non-cash compensation, such as stock options, as an expense that reduces profits, essentially the way they treat cash compensation such as salaries.

INTERESTING: “THE PUB” in 22102 allows smoking

Friday, February 15, 2013

Tonight I found a bar that allows smoking?

It’s attached to a Chinese restaurant.

Strange, I thought the smoking Nazis had wiped out this particular form of freedom.

It could, if it wasn’t for the smoke, become one of my favorite places.

Only two kinds of draft beer — bud and bud light (yuck) — and only a half dozen varieties of bottled beer.

(Not a problem considering I gave up beer and facebook for lent.)

Just shocked me. And reminded me how much I don’t like smoke.

But as a Little L Libertarian, that decision should be left to the owner. Patrons and workers are free to seek other venues.

Argh!

RANT: Where are the bananas?

Monday, February 11, 2013

I must be getting old and stupid?

I read the artcle that said make bananas last longer by separating the siblings. And, wrapping the tops in saran wrap.

So I bought a bunch green at WalMart.

Gottem home, separated them, knotted each individually into its own walmart bag, and stored them in different places. IN the crock pot, in the microwave, in the dish cabinet, in the food cabinet.

Now I’m concerned I haven’t found them all. I think there are two unacounted for?

Argh!

When my executrix cleans out the place, I’m sure she’ll find them.

MEMORIES: Growlers

Sunday, February 10, 2013

In my never ending quest to rediscover the old dives of my childhood — yes, I frequented bars in my high school days; one of the advantages of working real jobs with real men — was the discovery of quaint places that were friendly and welcoming.

Unlike today, where it’s a gooferment regulated expensive hustle.

Beer in high school was 20 cents; 10 cents if you had id. It was as cheap as soda. The bars then would turn a blind eye to age. And you’d get bounced forever if you were “rude”. BUt I digress. When I went into my regular place, the regular tender made a big deal of proofing me. Wonder how he knew? And I got the “legal” price.

But I digress.

I happened to try the “Mad Fox Brewing Company” in Fairfax for “dinner”.

And, incomes a patron buying a ‘growler’ of beer.

Boy, did that bring back old memories.

My father-in-law didn’t care for canned or bottled beer; said it gave him gas. So every night, and I mean every night after the family dinner, he go downstairs to the tavern with his ceramic / metal container. I was informed is was a “growler”. Conveniently, the tavern was located next door to the apartments. A while later, he’d return with a growler full of draft beer.

When the growler was “dirty”. (It had to be cleaned and seasoned. Never learned what all that was.) He’d get cardboard ones. But they deteriorated quickly.

SO, any way, as much as I try to escape the past, it seems to haunt me.

Girls basketball on TV too.

Just in case I might forget.

POLITICIAL: State run liquor stores

Saturday, February 9, 2013

NEW HAMPSHIRE

A blizzard warning is in effect through 4 p.m. Saturday for portions of the state. Gov. Maggie Hassan declared a state of emergency but stopped short of ordering everyone off the roads.

Hundreds of schools were closed Friday, airlines canceled flights and sporting and civic events were postponed.

State-run liquor stores were slated to close at 6 p.m. Friday to encourage people to get off the roads by 7 p.m., when the storm is supposed to intensify.

Backcountry hikers were of high-mountain whiteout conditions and 80 to 90 mph gusts.
