Marc Faber: I’m Buying Gold Because I’m Fearful of a Systemic Crisis

by Constantine Gardner

Dr. Marc Faber the Swiss fund manager and Gloom Boom & Doom publisher believes markets will punish central banks, at some stage, for their extensive monetary easing. This could materialize as a bonds market collapse or a stock market bubble.

He reckons investors should enjoy the rally while it lasts, and says he is already unwinding his long positions because when ‘euphoria’ builds up and everybody is investing, markets turn down. He also thinks investors who don’t own gold are in “great danger”.

MONEY: Banking cartel is a bandit that doesn’t move; how stupid are we?

Banking and the State

by Thorsten Polleit

At other end of the spectrum is the stationary bandit. Like the roving bandit, he also holds the monopoly of coercion over his victims.

However, the stationary bandit has an encompassing interest in society’s welfare. He wishes to keep his victims producing: the more his victims produce, the more there is to take for the stationary bandit.

Sharing in society’s losses, the stationary bandit will make sure that his thievery is limited. The higher the losses in production from thievery are, the lower will be the level of aggression at which the stationary bandit’s take is maximized. The stationary bandit’s time preference will therefore be lower than the time preference of the roving bandit.

A great discription of the Federal Reserve System, (which isn’t Federal; reserves nothing; and only a ‘system’ as like OPEC for money!), “stationary bandit”!

Don’t forget FOUR insidious taxes that you don’t see: (1) the inflation tax — the FED has destroyed 99%of the value of the dollar in the last three or four decades; (2) the gas tax — gets added into every product sold and into every capital good used to make products, or deliver them; (3) the corporate tax — corps don’t pay tax, people do, they just pass it on; and (4) the estate tax — that turns productive assets into legal fees and schemes to avoid it as opposed to capital investment that improves society’s wealth — say goodbye to the family farm or a families’ small business. I’d assert that (a) the true tax rate is incalculable because it’s so well hidden; (B) it crushes the poor and middle class; and (c) some years we pay more than 100% of an annual year’s earnings in taxes! The loss of purchasing power means real savings goes down DESPITE rising account balances!!!!!!!!!

SERVICE: TWITTER hacked; change passwords

Saturday, February 2, 2013

Dear Twitter User:

As a precautionary security measure, we have reset your Twitter account password. Check your inbox for a separate email from Twitter with instructions on how to reset your password. If you don’t see an email, you can go to this page in our Help Center to request a password reset. More information is below.

We recently detected an attack on our systems in which the attackers may have had access to limited user information – specifically, your username, email address and anencrypted/salted version of your password (not the actual letters and numbers in your password). Further information about the attack can be found in this blog post.

Since your password has been reset, your old password will not work when you try to log into Twitter. We strongly encourage you to take this opportunity to select a strong password – at least 10 (but more is better) characters and a mixture of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols – that you are not using for any other accounts or sites. Using the same password for multiple online accounts significantly increases your odds of being compromised.

For more information about making your Twitter and other Internet accounts more secure, read our Help Center documentation or the FTC’s guide on passwords.

This attack was not the work of amateurs, and we do not believe it was an isolated incident. The attackers were extremely sophisticated, and we believe other companies and organizations have also been recently similarly attacked. For that reason we felt that it was important to reset your password and publicize this attack while we still gather information. We are also helping government and federal law enforcement in their effort to find and prosecute these attackers to make the Internet safer for all users.

He’s actually okay with really leaving now, because in two short months I’ve managed to squirrel away enough supplies to take care of all of us, and instead of believing that the powers that be will take care of me and mine in an emergency, I’m being proactive in taking care of me and mine. VA Suicide Prevention – source Associated Press

The Department of Veterans Affairs in Texas will conduct a

mortality study to track causes of death for veterans putting

together a model that could allow similar data to be gathered nationwide. The department’s decision came two

months after an Austin American-Statesman investigation

found that nearly as many Texas veterans died from prescription medicines as from suicide. The newspaper says it

used autopsy and toxicology reports, inquests and accident

reports from more than 50 state agencies to determine the

causes of death for 266 Texas veterans who had been receiving disability benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs when they died. The department says its study will

look at veterans who served in combat. The VA officials

declined to say how the study would be used nationally.

POLITICAL: Could this be the line in the sand?

Thursday, January 24, 2013

“I will note that the legislation passed by the New York legislature and signed by Governor Cuomo is anti-Constitutional. I don’t recall reading “…shall not be infringed, except in New York State” anywhere in the Bill of Rights. Since this legislation outlaws guns and magazines which are currently legal and requires their surrender; and since it leaves the people of New York without the ability to defend themselves against outlaws who ignore these restrictions; then by the arguments in this series of papers, it represents a declaration of war against the law-abiding, gun-owning citizens of New York State, and is thus an act of Treason against the People of New York and the United States.”

SO what will the gun owners do? Could this be the start of the revolt? Remember the Boston Massacre!

RANT: “unofficial agreements” about press coverage

Sunday, January 20, 2013

White House Sends Warning Letter to Photographer who Photographed Obama’s Daughters
via PINAC by Carlos Miller on 1/8/13

*** begin quote ***

A celebrity photographer who snapped photos of President Barack Obama’s daughters frolicking on a public beach in Hawaii received a warning from the White House that their privacy should be respected.

As official and intimidating it may be to receive such a letter from the White House, it carries no legal standing. It is merely part of an informal agreement Obama has with the media, which once used to pride itself in being the Fourth Estate.

The photographer was on the beach last week waiting to snap a photo of Jessica Simpson when he spotted Malia and Sasha Obama, age 14 and 11, so he naturally snapped their photos, thinking he could make a sale.

But he was quickly accosted by Secret Service agents, who demanded his identification. They did not delete his photos but told him not to take anymore photos.

The photographer then turned around and sold the existing images, which he had every right to do if he did not personally agree to the agreement with the White House.

*** and ***

While it is understandable that Obama would like to keep his daughters out of the public eye, it makes one wonder what other “unofficial agreements” he has made with the media not to report certain information.

*** end quote ***

I really don’t have a problem if the news people report only what they fell is news worthy.

I do have a problem when the Gooferment has “unofficial agreements”.

If at the beginning of every year, there was an explicit  public statement of what and was not acceptable about the children, I’d applaud.

But, then the politicians can’t trot them out as “props”. Same for the First Ladies, they are either “in politicos” and hence “fair game”. Or out as Laura Bush, and then out of bounds.

imho!
