RANT: PAYPAL cuts off NVIC because of their politics?

On December 21st past the close of business hours, NVIC was notified that PayPal would no longer process donations made by our supporters effective immediately. In essence, PayPal wants to control your choices and tell you which non-profit charities you may and may not support. Pay Pal’s sudden and unexplained action against our donors comes in the middle of our annual end-of-year fund raising campaign.

I like PAYPAL BUT, (and there is always a BIG butt), I don’t think PAYPAL should not discriminate between charities based on politics or viewpoints.
If this policy is not reversed by 31 JAN 2022, then I will have to close my PAYPAL account.
If they can do it to NVIC, then they can do it to anyone. And, I can no longer patronize them.

A SCUBA diver who uses sonar equipment to solve cold cases has opened up to The Sun about how he may have cracked a 21-year-old missing persons case last month when he discovered a car in a Tennesee lake.
Jeremy Beau Sides, 42, who runs the YouTube channel Exploring with Nug, found a black 1988 Pontiac Grand Am during a dive in Sparta on November 30, with human remains inside that are yet to be identified.

Seems to do it “ethically” by not raising false hopes and not getting involved other than notifying the proper authority.
Great that he can earn enough from YouTube to keep doing it.

TECHNOLOGY: Will the developers please consider old people using their stuff?
Monday, December 27, 2021I, as with many other people, act as “tech support” for our older friends and relatives.
Will the developers please consider this when they push products to the marketplace.
I like tech products to have a “supervisory mode” that his all the “dangerous” functions from the old, and young, users.
Just like enterprises do to their employees with varying degrees of success.
Phones, chromebooks, and computers are my current hot buttons, but as more devices like TVs and streaming sticks become “configurable”, they have the same problem with “fat fingers”.
Argh!

There has been an unfortunate shift in Western educational practices in the past few decades away from what we used to call “critical thinking.” In fact, critical thinking was once a fundamental staple of US colleges and now it seems as though the concept doesn’t exist anymore; at least not in the way it used to. Instead, another brand of learning has arisen which promotes “right thinking”; a form of indoctrination which encourages and rewards a particular response from students that falls in line with ideology and not necessarily in line with reality.

Why don’t people trust the science and scientists anymore?
This is simple: Because many scientists have been caught lying and misrepresenting their data to fit the conclusions they want rather than the facts at hand. Science is often politicized to serve an agenda. This is not conspiracy theory, this is provable fact.

Money used to be a stable medium of exchange and a store of value but that was in the days when there were sound monetary principles, mostly backed by gold or silver.

But these are the consequences that history teaches us time and time again. But sadly everyone thinks it is different today.
Since every currency system in history has collapsed, it is quite a certain bet that this one will too.
For the few who have savings, wealth preservation in physical gold and silver is essential as insurance against yet another failed currency and financial system.
And for everybody it is important to remember that the most important things in life are family and friends. Helping others in difficult times is critical.
Remember also that many wonderful things in life are free, conversations, books, music and nature.

GUNS: A “community caretaking function” is no reason for a search
Thursday, December 23, 2021The Supreme Court today gave us a fantastic decision in a case where Gun Owners of America and its foundation (GOF) were involved!

In Caniglia v. Strom, the Supreme Court today struck down an attempt by Rhode Island police to conduct warrantless searches for guns in a home using the so-called “community caretaking function.”
This made-up doctrine, which is a purported exception to the Fourth Amendment’s warrant requirement, permits police to engage in warrantless searches and seizures when they are carrying out any of their duties other than criminal law enforcement. For example, police may enter homes to help persons in need of emergency assistance, or may search a vehicle to recover the gun of an off-duty officer they had just arrested.
Erich Pratt, Senior Vice President of Gun Owners of America (GOA) and Gun Owners Foundation (GOF), stated:
“The Supreme Court today smacked down the hopes of gun grabbers across the nation. The Michael Bloombergs of the world would have loved to see the Supreme Court grant police the authority to confiscate firearms without a warrant. But the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that the Fourth Amendment protections in the Bill of Rights protect gun owners from such invasions into their homes.”
According to GOA’s brief, after a husband and wife had an argument, the police entered their home without a warrant to search and seize the husband’s firearms based on the supposed “community caretaking” exception to the Fourth Amendment. The Rhode Island district court and the First Circuit plucked two words from a court-created doctrine in an effort to empower police to grab guns in homes whenever it seems to be a good idea.
Writing for a unanimous Court in a short opinion, Justice Thomas denied the application of the doctrine to justify the search, distinguishing between a rule that applied to an impounded car and “the right of a man to retreat into his own home and there be free from unreasonable governmental intrusion.”
Gun Owners of America and its foundation are continually bringing lawsuits across the country to defend firearm rights. GOA is unwavering in its defense of gun rights and remains the only “no compromise” gun lobby.
So GOA wishes to express its thanks to those members who assisted in this case

Boy, does Hunter Biden get a ton of breaks. The White House has basically given up on setting any ethical rules for the First Son, while the cultural elite rush to cover for his sleaze.
Last week, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki refused to commit to “basic transparency” about Hunter’s divestment from an investment fund owned by a Chinese-state entity during a White House Press Briefing. She also refused to admit his infamous laptop is authentic.
“The president’s son is not an employee of the federal government, so I’d point you to his representatives,” Psaki snarked after being asked about the China connection. She used the same lame excuse back in February: “He’s a private citizen — I would point you to him or his lawyers on the outside on any update.”
And never mind that President Joe Biden pledged last December that no family member would have a conflict of interest in his administration: “My son, my family will not be involved in any business, any enterprise that is in conflict with or appears to be in conflict with where there’s appropriate distance from the presidency and government,” he told CNN.
