What is Domino’s Pizza Doing in Our Schools?

A Pie with a Pitch

The new “healthier” pizza also came with a hefty marketing pitch for the Domino’s brand. The company delivers its pizzas directly to schools. So their trucks, employee uniforms, insulated boxes and lunch-line placards ubiquitously brand the company’s red-and-blue logo into young impressionable student minds. Nutritionists fear this on-campus branding primes students to head for Domino’s after school or on weekends to devour its regular non-USDA pizza (Domino’s says it has no plans to sell the Smart Slice in shops).

Over and above my problem with the Gooferment Skrules concept, this smacks of Crony Capitalism!

And, if the children are exposed and indoctrinated into “corporate branding” throughout their youth, then how can they have “free will”?

EVLYNN: Death and grief is universal

When a Spouse Dies Abroad
Compounding the grief of loss are mountains of paperwork.
SOPHIA MALEKINJUL 5 2014, 12:30 PM ET

*** begin quote ***

When I finally reemerged, something about me was different. I was less afraid of how I appeared to others and more certain of how I wanted to live. Perhaps I was a little more reckless too. I became more creative. I painted a lot, something I’d let slide with the arrival of my children. You could say that I became more selfish, but as a consequence I also became stronger, and that made me more useful to others.

There is something about the lack of choice in the whole process of grief, the sheer overwhelming power of it—it rushes in like a huge wave, and in the end it forces surrender. From that surrendered state, answers did eventually arrive, but through a very different door than the questions. They came in stealthily. I am not sure precisely when, but I started to find that the questions mattered less. My anger subsided. Gradually I became aware of the everyday happiness of being alive again.

That simple, everyday happiness is not a mundane idea. It is really life’s essence. While I felt, and still feel, that life, like the ocean, can be treacherous, it is also vast and beautiful. It fills me with wonder.

*** end quote ***

Death, any death, is traumatic.

The closer the relative the harder it is.

And closing an estate is often easier said than done.

In the end, all you have is the sadness and loneliness of the “missing”.

Woman in class-action lawsuit against Xerox dies
By JENNIFER ROBISON
LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL

*** begin quote ***

Time ran out for Linda Rolain.

The Las Vegas woman died Monday, less than two weeks after her family went public with details of how enrollment trouble through the Nevada Health Link insurance exchange kept her from getting treatment in January for an aggressive brain tumor.

Rolain was one of about 150 Nevadans suing Nevada Health Link contractor Xerox for enrollment mixups that left them without the health insurance they paid for.

Rolain is the first to die of complications from an illness that her family said went untreated for lack of coverage. But observers close to her case say she may not be the last, because others are in similarly urgent situations.

*** end quote ***

Now no one is saying that without the screw up she would have survived, …

… BUT, (and there is always a BIG butt), …

… … … it couldn’t have helped and may well have shortened her time.

The hubris of Gooferment politicians and bureaucrats is stunning.

Remembering that the whole “benefits” issue is the direct result of Gooferment meddling.

  •  WW2 Wage and Price controls forced companies to offer “benefits” as non-cash compensation

  • The Tax Code gave corporations breaks on “benefits” that individuals didn’t get (A corporation can deduct healthcare insurance costs, but an individual tax payer can’t!)

  • The Gooferment created Medicare and forced the old into a Gooferment “reservation”. (Medicare works as well as the VA healthcare and Indian healthcare.)

  • Obamacare

The Gooferment is immoral, ineffective, and inefficient!

This is the first death; there will be more.

2014-Jul-07

ATTENTION, AMAZON Users

Today, I received a very official looking email from AMAZON email address.

It had an Amazon Dot Com link that “went to my account”. I check what was behind the text. Because the junk after Amazon Dot Com was garbage, it resolved to the front page and the cookie signed me in.

I almost fell for it EXCEPT:

  • Why would Amazon attach a zip file to an order confirmation?
  • IT came in from “delivers@amazon.com” which it not my address for amazon.
  • I didn’t order anything that I was still waiting for.

Even after that analysis, when it came it I almost screwed up.

Take care.

Of course, I reported it to: stop-spoofing@amazon.com

MONEY: THOSE SAME THREE SILVER DIMES

Gas Prices Near 6-Year Highs, No Inflation? Who SaysThursday
July 03, 2014 12:59

*** begin quote ***

While official government statistics show U.S. inflation at still low levels, anyone who buys gas, food or health insurance can attest to the fact that inflation exists in our everyday lives. GasBuddy has predicted that U.S. consumers will see the most expensive July 4th since 2008 at the gas pump.

Despite the dramatic increase in U.S. oil production in recent years, GasBuddy estimates that Americans are likely to pay about $1.435 billion per day for gasoline during the holiday week, about $50 million more each day, or $350 million more per week than last year.

*** end quote ***

Any wonder why the “stock market” is going up while the “standard of living” is going down like the Titanic!

The value of the Federal Reserve Note!

THREE silver dimes from 1964, when I started buying gas, would buy ONE GALLON of gas. At $21.15 per silver ounce, those SAME THREE SILVER DIMES are worth $5.70. Far more than a gallon of gas. (Never mind that today’s gas is better, cleaner, and healthier.)

So what’s changed?

The value of money has been inflated away by the Gooferment politicians and bureaucrats for the benefit of the Crony Capitalists and the Banking Cartel.

When do The Sheeple wake up?

Time to cut employers out of the healthcare loop
Daniel Froomkin asks one of the right questions in the wake of yesterday’s ruling in the Hobby Lobby case: “Why should employers have anything to do with people’s health insurance anyway?”

# – # – # – # – #

I, for once, agree.

I would say why should Gooferment or its corporations be in charge of “health”, “health care”, “health care insurance”, or something else?

Look at “life insurance”. “Cheap”, easily available, and virtually unregulated.

Even “car insurance” is relatively the same when compared to “health insurance”.

When you think about it, the current “system” comes from the WW2 wage and price controls. There, the Gooferment, created the problem and “they” keep “rescuing” us from the problem they created.

Could we at least consider an alternative?

If the problem was “uninsured”, (which I dispute), then could “we” NOT bought every uninsured person a policy and avoided the financial and systematic débâcle that was Obamacare?

I think that you liberals think that only the Gooferment can solve “problems”. When in actuality, it causes the problem it seek to proclaim it’s solving.

RANT: The “poor” Democrats

Why Democrats insist on lying about how ‘poor’ they are
By Kyle SmithJune 28, 2014 | 10:22am

*** begin quote ***

It’s all part of the increasingly delusional myth Democrats tell themselves that they are the tribunes of the middle class. In fact, their party is a strange two-headed beast — picture a Cerberus featuring the faces of Barbra Streisand and Lois Lerner.

The Dems are a coalition of ultra-rich cultural-elite donors on the one hand and government employees and their clients on the other. In 2012, President Obama carried those earning under $50,000 by a wide margin. But Romney easily bested him among those over that threshold.

*** and ***

Yet even for Democrats, the Clintons got rich in an exotic way. They accumulated something like $100 million not by building a business or inventing something or even writing some hit songs. Their entire fortune came from political celebrity. (Their daughter has even accumulated $15 million by being the offspring of political celebrities. Or did you think NBC News paid her $600,000 a year because of her obvious broadcasting ability?)

*** end quote ***

It’s all about power and control.

These folks aren’t “poor”. Nor are the interested in helping the poor. Maybe at one time, but Crony Capitalism is toxic.

And, the liberal media plays their “songs”.

“The trouble with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people’s money.” –Margaret Thatcher

And, this is a symptom.

With a (French style) Revolution to come.

POLITICAL: PO 08751

Friday, July 4, 2014

http://www.seaside-heightsnj.org/

Important USPS Announcement
July 2nd, 2014

*** begin quote ***

The Postal Service has established a review process for certain Post Offices known as the POST Plan. The Seaside Heights Post Office was among the offices evaluated under the POST Plan criteria. The Postal Service is now soliciting community input through surveys to help determine the best course of action for providing postal services to your community.

After receiving the results of this survey, the Postal Service will examine the responses and, unless the community has a strong preference (more than 60%) for conducting a discontinuance study for the Seaside Heights Post Office and establishing one of the additional sources of services described below, the Postal service intends to maintain the Seaside Heights Post Office with 6 hours of window service each weekday. Current Saturday window service hours and access to delivery receptacles will not change as a result of the POST Plan realignment of weekday window service hours.

In addition to this survey, the Postal Service will hold a meeting at the Seaside Heights Municipal Court at 116 Sherman Avenue Set 2, Seaside Heights NJ, 08751 on 8/7/2014 at 6:00 PM to answer questions and provide additional information about the POST Plan. At the meeting, local management will share the results of the survey, answer questions, and solicit input regarding the time of day the Post Office will be open. Although survey results will be known and shared, the Postal Service will not make a final decision regarding this office until after the public meeting. This will enable the Postal Service to obtain all community input and opinions, from both the surveys and the meeting, before making a final decision.

The Postal Service is also seeking locally established businesses or organizations to serve as contractor-operated postal retail units in communities like yours. If you are interested in operating a postal retail unit, please visit the website at http://about.usps.com/news/electronic-press-kits/expandedaccess/welcome.htm for additional information. Generally, these contractor-operated postal retail units will operate in combination with a community’s Post Office. However, selection of the third option in the survey indicates a preference of your Post Office to be studied for discontinuance with the establishment of a contractor-operated unit a a replacement for the Post Office.

If you are filling out the survey, please return it by 7/24/2014. We kindly request the inclusion of your mailing address so that we can ensure that one survey response is submitted per address. Please note that your response may be entered into a publicly accessible record.

Thank you for your cooperation. Please contact the Post Office with any further questions.

The Final Trip Home of Pfc. Aaron ToppenJul 2, 2014 | 17
On June 9, 2014, during a security operation in southern Afghanistan, a unit of U.S. and Afghan soldiers was hit by a friendly fire airstrike, killing five Americans and one Afghan. One of the Americans was 19-year-old Private First Class Aaron Toppen, of Mokena, Illinois. A series of memorials and transfers then began, to return his body home to the U.S. for burial — a sequence of events carried out some 2,200 times since the start of the war in Afghanistan. Once his remains arrived in Chicago, Getty Images photographer Scott Olson stayed with the family through the processions, visitations, services, and burial, documenting the final journey of one of the most recent soldiers to have died in Afghanistan. Pfc. Toppen, who had always wanted to join the Army, signed on last July, and had only arrived in Afghanistan this March.

OREGON CELEBRATES INDEPENDENCE DAY… WITH ‘NO REFUSAL’ BLOOD CHECKPOINTS
Police rename Fourth of July weekend “No Refusal Weekend”
by STEVE WATSON | INFOWARS.COM | JUNE 27, 2014

*** begin quote ***

During Independence Day weekend, a time to celebrate US freedom and unalienable rights, Americans in Oregon will be subjected to a “blitz” of ‘no-refusal’ blood-draw checkpoints, as part of a disturbing trend that now extends nationwide.

Local news station KVAL reports that State police are re-naming Fourth of July weekend “No Refusal Weekend”, as part of a crack down on drunk driving.

Any driver who is stopped by police and refuses to take an alcohol breath test will be subjected to a mandatory blood test either at the scene, at a medical facility, or at the nearest jail.

*** end quote ***

Is this America or the “Pepuls Republik of North Amerika”?

Sorry, but as little L libertarian, I don’t want people damaged, hurt, or Heaven forbid killed by any driver.

And, if that happens, Society should demand “restitution”.

But, using technology that’s error prone and then, when the person objects, a “mandatory” blood test?

The Sheeple have allowed the “King” to take away their rights.

Happy Independence Day.

The race to stop Las Vegas from running dry

Amid a brutal drought the reservoir that supplies 90 per cent of Las Vegas’s water is fast disappearing and desperate attempts to save Sin City are under way

*** begin quote ***

Outside Las Vegas’s Bellagio hotel tourists gasp in amazement as fountains shoot 500ft into the air, performing a spectacular dance in time to the music of Frank Sinatra.

Gondolas ferry honeymooners around canals modelled on those of Venice, Roman-themed swimming pools stretch for acres, and thousands of sprinklers keep golf courses lush in the middle of the desert.

But, as with many things in Sin City, the apparently endless supply of water is an illusion. America’s most decadent destination has been engaged in a potentially catastrophic gamble with nature and now, 14 years into a devastating drought, it is on the verge of losing it all.

*** end quote ***

I remember visiting Lake Mead when the “bath tub ring” was first appearing.

I say to my bride: “There is what happens when no one person owns the water. A private business would raise the prices to equilibrium. Selling exactly as much water — or pretty close to exactly — as is replenished. And cheap people would conserve.”

So true then. So true now.

The “tragedy of the commons” demonstrated.

Mosby’s men were vastly outnumbered but they fought valiantly to try to stop Sheridan’s torching of the valley.   Sheridan responded by labeling Mosby’s men war criminals and announcing that they would be executed if captured.  The North stretched the definition of illegal enemy combatant at the same time it redefined its own war crimes out of existence.  Six of Mosby’s men were hung in Front Royal, Virginia in September 1864.

In the weeks after the hanging of his men, Mosby’s men captured 700 northern troops.  In early November, his troops hanged several captured Yankees in retaliation.  A sign was attached to one of the corpses: “These men have been hung in retaliation for an equal number of Colonel Mosby’s men, hung by order of General Custer at Front Royal.  Measure for measure.”  Recognizing the perils to his own troops, Sheridan ceased executing captured Mosby’s guerillas.
