Some prisoners cost more. It costs New Jersey $253 million every year to house just its death row prisoners — $11 million apiece

Here’s a good reason to eliminate the Death Penalty.

It’s immoral, inefficient, and ineffective.

We can save 253 M$ to start.

SERVICE: “The Cloud” is undependable

Burned by the Cloud

Well, it turns out a company doesn’t even have to fail for you to suddenly lose everything you entrusted to it. This week ZDNet blogger Ed Bott tweeted the URL to the story of a former enthusiastic Google advocate and evangelist who, for reasons unknown to him, one day woke up to find his Google account shut down. The post is a long one, but the gist of it was that he had gone “all in” with Google because he considered it a trustworthy company: he consolidated all his mail to one Gmail account, had all his photos, voice mail, Google Reader articles, contacts, docs and calendar on Google services. He lost saved maps, travel history, medical records and a blogger account. You can read the whole sad tale here:

The “cloud” can leave one high and dry.

I’ll be going back over my SOPs for exposure.

I’m not a cloud fan already because one can NOT always have access to the inet. Even if you’ve bought and paid for it. The ISP have no duty to supply service. Forget what they say in the ads. If you have it great; if not, too bad.

This just reinforces the concern over the availability issues.

Bond actress Angela Scoular died drinking acid cleaner

A Bond girl actress who had suffered from bowel cancer ended her life by drinking drain cleaner, Westminster

Sad.

Hard to imagine what was going through her mind.

Warning sign after warning sign. Where were her friends and family?

I’ve only one person who committed suicide. Every time I read of one, I think of him. I wasn’t that close to him but I was still stunned.

POLITICAL: Back to Clinton era spending levels

Thoughts on the Boehner Plan

Under the Congressional Budget Office’s optimistic spending baseline, the federal government will spend $46 trillion over the next ten years. Obviously, reducing spending by $1.2 trillion oven ten years is relatively small.

*** end quote ***

I stand with the Tea Party, as expressed by Michelle “Migraine” Bachman, “Never vote for raising the debt ceiling”.

We need to roll back to Clinton era spending levels.

Clinton may have been a sex addict, but he did do OK economically. Not because he wanted to, but it worked out OK for the USA.

TECHNOLOGY: The “cloud” can disappear in a heartbeat

Argh!

This was my first real forum where I posted my original writings. Got good feedback and encouragement. Read interesting stuff.

Gone.

In a flash.

All the bits just vaporized. Lost connections. Lost ideas. Lost a collective “soul”.

CEOs, CIOs, CTO, and Users best take this to heart. When you cast your bits into the “cloud”, they may NOT be coming back. Better include that in your plans.

RANT: Stuart on Dunkin Doughnuts’ IPO

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

http://www.foxbusiness.com/index.html

FBN’s Stuart Varney got excited this morning about Dunkin Donuts’ IPO.

Played the old commercial.

BUT, (and there is always a BIG butt),

(1) They don’t make donuts in their stores now. Hence they ain’t fresh and they ain’t always available.

(2) Their coffee stinks.

Argh!

And, there is no way to give them real time feedback.

10 hard truths IT must learn to accept
Unsanctioned devices, compromised networks, downtime — today’s IT is all about embracing imperfections

IT concession No. 6: You will never have enough hands on deck. IT departments often want a fairer shake when it comes to outsourcing and head count reductions, but they’re not likely to get it, says Meikle.

Because the tech outsourcing industry is much more mature than, say, legal services or HR outsourcing, IT is often the first to suffer when corporate bloodletting occurs. That’s not likely to change.

The solution to IT manpower problems, says Meikle, is to take advantage of third-party outsourcers and integrate with them as much as possible. The bodies are still available; they’re just not under your own roof anymore.

Also, says Meikle, be sure look out for No. 1. Keep your tech chops current with an eye on the next job before the current one evaporates.

“IT pros need to understand they work for themselves first, the organization second,” he says. “They need to continue developing their network and contacts, marketing themselves, and developing a personal brand even when they are employed. Like it or not, IT pros may have to pony up some dough personally to pay for their education and marketability, but that will pay dividends when the chips are down.”

I see several facets in this item. None good for folks stuck in the old memes!

1. Corporations are going to need help. Regardless of their plans for HR.

2. Employees must recognize that they are “consultants”. Very expensive and very expendable.

3. Technology obsolescence will quickly and silently hit corporations and individuals.

Make plans accordingly.

TINFOILHAT: BHO44’s SSN has an explanation; how true?

FROM LUDDITE

*** begin quote ***

From: Rose M
Subject: The Plot Thickens….
To: “Rose M”
Date: Monday, July 25, 2011, 4:39 PM

An intensive investigation has revealed the identity of the man whose Social Security number (SSN) is being used by President Obama: Jean Paul Ludwig, who was born in France in 1890, emigrated to the United States in 1924, and was assigned SSN 042-68-4425 (Obama’s current SSN) in or about March 1977.

Ludwig lived most of his adult life in Connecticut . Because of that, his SSN begins with the digits 042, which are among only a select few reserved for Connecticut residents.

Obama never lived or worked in that state! Therefore, there is no reason on earth for his SSN to start with the digits 042. None whatsoever!

Now comes the best part! Ludwig spent the final months of his life in Hawaii, where he died.

Conveniently, Obama’s grandmother, Madelyn Payne Dunham, worked part-time in the Probate Office in the Honolulu Hawaii Courthouse, and therefore had access to the SSNs of deceased individuals.

The Social Security Administration was never informed of Ludwig’s death, and because he never received Social Security benefits there were no benefits to stop and therefore, no questions were ever raised.

The suspicion, of course, is that Dunham, knowing her grandson was not a U.S. citizen, either because he was born in Kenya or became a citizen of Indonesia upon his adoption by Lolo Soetoro simply scoured the probate records until she found someone who died who was not receiving Social Security benefits, and selected Mr. Ludwigs Connecticut SSN for Obama.

Just wait until Trump gets past the birth certificate and onto the issue of Barry O’s use of a stolen SSN. You will see leftist heads exploding, because they will have no way of defending Obama.

Although many Americans do not understand the meaning of the term “natural born” there are few who do not understand that if you are using someone else’s SSN it is a clear indication of fraud.

Let’s all start getting the word out to everybody on our mailing lists.

FUN: Don’t let a good heat wave go to waste! Make “car cookies”

Monday, July 25, 2011

Hot enough to….

by asclepius

Yummy! Bake cookies in a car? You betcha! In Amarillo, the temperatures have soared to over 100 degrees, and about 200 degrees in a closed car. Brittany Nunn of the Amarillo Globe-News baked chocolate chip cookies in her car. They took quite a while to bake, but the car smelled wonderful afterward…
