HAMILTON, Bermuda (AP) — Hurricane Gonzalo crushed trees, flattened power lines and damaged Bermuda’s main hospital during an hours-long battering – the second time the tiny British territory has been slammed by a powerful storm in less than a week.

QUOTE: ON positive and negative

Thursday, October 23, 2014

We must look for the opportunity in every difficulty, instead of being paralyzed at the thought of the difficulty in every opportunity.
~Walter E. Cole

The pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; the optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.
~L.P. Jacks

Unfortunately, this makes us pessimists look dumb.

With apologies to Doctor Norman Vincent Peale (May 31, 1898 – December 24, 1993) was a minister and author of “The Power of Positive Thinking”, who I heard speak in person more than once; thanks to a “Comparative Christian Religions” Theology course required of all Engineers.

I often cite “Reinke’s Rule” (egotistically named after a fat old white guy injineer named me) which states: “Expect the worst and every surprise will be to the good side.”

This means by not expecting sunshine and lollypops, by not presuming an easy journey, one can be prepared to overcome ALL obstacles. That careful consideration before embarking allows one to fully commit to the goal and be positive you will attain it.

My 3 confirming examples comes from post-graduate education opportunities:

* I had the opportunity to get my MBA. With a bunch of co-workers. Three years at night. Fall, Spring, and Summer. No partial credit for not finishing. Completed. Piece of cake. Actually enjoyed it.

* I then had the opportunity to go to law school with the same cadre I took my MBA with. It was 6 years of the same Fall, Spring, and Summer. With real work and a bar exam. No partial credit. I declined. Of the 20 that started; only 4 finished. And, one never passed the bar. 3/20 = 15%!

* I had the opportunity to get my MS CompSci. Had to go it alone; no comrades. That was hard! Three years at night. Fall, Spring, and Summer. No partial credit for not finishing. Completed.

Upon reflection, I should have gone to Law School. I regret it today.

But I wonder how I would feel if I was one of the 17 versus one of the 3?

And, when makes such a decision, one doesn’t know what costs were hidden along the way. Six summer vacations come to mind.

So, I’ll stick with “Reinke’s Rule”. You OTOH have follow your own paradigms and memes. YMMV!

A federal court ruling in North Carolina this week will have a devastating impact on many of the nearly 20,000 Floridians currently registered with the Marine Corps for their exposures at Camp Lejeune to three known human carcinogens found in the camp’s drinking water, said a man who contracted breast cancer as a result.

Those Floridians are on a list compiled by the Marines. They may have been exposed as far back as 1953, according to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.

“Legally, we are done,” said Mike Partain of Winter Haven, who was born at Camp Lejeune 46 years ago. “The government has successfully found a silver bullet to put an end to legal issues. If this happened in Florida, rather than North Carolina, we would still be legally able to pursue the government.”

Neither the Marines nor the Department of Justice responded to requests for comment.

This week, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a North Carolina law limiting the time period in which a plaintiff can seek damages.

The law, called the statute of repose, placed a 10-year limit on which plaintiffs in that state can seek damages from exposure to contaminants, with no exception for latent diseases like the cancer contracted by Partain.

So anyone want to quibble that the Gooferment is immoral, ineffective, and inefficient?

And, the biggest pollution problem on the planet?

“I’m shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!” Captain Renault in Casablanca

I’m shocked that a Gooferment Court found that the Gooferment wasn’t liable for the harm it knowingly allowed.

Argh!

I hope there is a special circle in Hell for politicians and bureaucrats!

So why have a registry if you’re just going to screw the victims.

And, you trust them on Ebola, D23, or any other matter of “public health”.

RANT: The White House press is not free

Tuesday, October 21, 2014

http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/white-house-deletes-obamas-unpaid-bills-admission-transcript_816940.html#

A laugh line, but why alter the transcript?

First, it calls into question the authenticity of ANY transcript!

Second, it impairs the First Amendment status of the “free” press.

Third, it proves that the Executive Branch can NEVER be trusted.

TINFOILHAT: MH17 discrepancies

MH-17 REPORT FALSE FLAG EXPOSED AFTER REVELATION PASSENGER WAS WEARING OXYGEN MASK
Tyler Durden
Zero Hedge

Reader Views: 241

*** begin quote ***

When exactly a month ago the supposedly objective, impartial Netherlands released its official, 34-page preliminary report of the MH-17 crash over Ukraine, presumably based on black box data, air traffic control records, and other “authentic, verified” information, there were precisely zero mentions of “oxygen“, “mask” or “oxygen mask.”

Which is odd, because in what should become the biggest Freudian slip scandal in false-flag history, certainly since the Gulf of Tonkin, yesterday Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans accidentally revealed for the very first time ever, that one of the Australian passengers aboard the doomed airplane“appears to have donned an oxygen mask before the fatal crash, suggesting some on board might have been aware of their impending deaths, a Dutch official disclosed.” Clearly a crucial aspect of the crash, as it points at the severity of the alleged explosion, yet one which was not noted until yesterday and which completely skipped the purvey of the official crash report for reasons unknown.

Needless to say, this makes a complete mockery of the story that the plane had exploded upon impact with the “Russian” missile, and is why there was supposedly no trace of any impact on the flight’s black box recorder. Whether or not it also means that the alternative theory that a Ukraine jet had purposefully downed the Malaysian aircraft to serve as a pretext to implicate Russia, is unclear. But it also means that yet another conspiracy theory becomes fact: namely that whoever were the western powers who doctored and manipulated the “official” crash report of MH-17 to implicate Putin, not only lied but fabricated evidence.

*** end quote ***

Now the “official story” is that the plane was shot down by the Russians.

But NOW that doesn’t actually align with the “evidence”.

There are several different threads of “conspiracy”:

(1) The Ukrainians tried to knock down Putin’s plane that transited the same area a short time before;

(2) The Ukrainians fired the missile;

OR

(3) Parties unknown did it to set up the Russians.

Who knows?

Certainly not me!

But when looking into these things, I use the rule “Cui Bono”.

In this case, certainly not Putin!

POLITICAL: The “fruit of the poisonous tree”

Parallel Reconstruction

*** begin quote ***

Nevertheless, the NSA’s agents and lawyers felt it necessary to concoct this groundless, disingenuous and fictional legal distinction in order to persuade the FISA court that it is legally acceptable to permit untethered spying so long as the fruits of that spying are not used in criminal prosecutions. Curiously and naively, judges of the FISA court bought that argument.

So, what happens when the spying uncovers ordinary criminal behavior unrelated to national security? In order to keep its hands clean, so to speak, the NSA sends that evidence to the DOJ, whose lawyers and agents in cahoots with the NSA then concoct an explanation as to how the DOJ came upon the evidence. Of course, that explanation curiously and carefully omits the mention of domestic spying. DOJ lawyers know that if the beginning of the process of obtaining evidence is found to be unconstitutional, then the evidence itself can be useless in court.

This is what lawyers and judges call the “fruit of the poisonous tree.”

*** end quote ***

This is deceptive, unlawful and unconstitutional behavior by the Executive Branch.

It undermines the “Rule of Law”.

And the fact that it was done by BOTH the R Bush and the D Obama demonstrates that there is little difference between the D’s and the R’s.

At the very least, there should be dismissals and pardons for ALL defendants who were unfairly convicted.

Argh!

TINFOILHAT: Building 7 — nothing to see here

Bid To Solve 9/11 Mystery Via NYC Ballot Ends After Court Ruling
By Bryson Hull on Oct 9, 2014

*** begin quote ***

An effort to put a new investigation into the collapse of World Trade Center Building 7 up for vote in New York City won’t be on the November ballot, after a New York State Supreme Court judge upheld a ruling dismissing the proposed referendum.

*** and ***

That the High-Rise Safety Initiative made it this far should be considered against this fact: only two proposed referenda have made it to the ballot in New York City in the last 50 years. And neither of those cost money to implement, as the High-Rise Safety Initiative would have. New York City electoral laws are written such that it’s next to impossible to get any similar measures in front of voters.

*** and ***

Until that happens, the question of how Building 7 collapsed so swiftly and uniformly will remain a baffling part of the story of 9/11 still unanswered by the official probe.

*** end quote ***

It’s always interesting that, when anyone tries to use “the system”, nothing ever happens.

“If voting made any difference they wouldn’t let us do it.” ― Mark Twain

But “the elite” doesn’t even let it get that far.

Call the people who don’t accept the official line — “barbara streisand” — tin foil hat, conspiracy theorists, or just crazy. Nothing should be allowed to disturb the Welfare / Warfare State as it produces cannon fodder for the Army, willing morons for the factories, and useful idiots to vote for and be led by the elite!

INSPIRATIONAL: Complicated politics, irrational decisions, and legions of people

Saturday, October 18, 2014

http://buff.ly/1vRZ2nM

“Healthcare is an industry involving complicated politics, irrational decisions, and legions of people looking for their next paycheck. However, the sheer volume of money in the system is making it a prime target of entrepreneurs all over the world.

But for those thinking that emerging tech will enable them to circumvent the entire healthcare system completely, it may, but only for a very tiny subset of the population.

We are on the verge of crossing over from science hype to science reality, with the prospects of creating a tremendous upside. Yes, there will be more than a few battles fought along the way between doctors and health industry executives, insurance administrators, and government officials but in the end, it doesn’t have to be a win-lose situation.”
