The one he settles on: investors have concluded that the weak economy is the new normal, so to speak, so they’re willing to accept low yields. But this explanation contradicts Krugman’s repeated insistence that the Obama recovery is stronger than ignorant right-wingers give it credit for. Which is it?

Imagine physics if the speed of light was not a constant?

Economics’ supply and demand is an observed logically consistent “law” (i.e., lower your price and people can buy more; raise your price and the opposite happens).

Interest rates are a reflection of people’s time preference. Not what the Gooferment says it is.

I’ve griped about the three silver dimes for a gallon of gas many times on this blog before. But it still states an essential truth. Silver hasn’t really changes and the gas is actually “better” gas. So what accounts for the delta (i.e., a gallon of lesser quality gas in the Sixties versus two plus gallons of today’s better gas)?

It’s the value of the money stupid.

The dollar 1960 value has been “inflated” away by the politicians and bureaucrats who put the difference in their pockets.

In the old days, it’d just be called what it is — theft.

They’d press the corresponding buttons in order from top to bottom and then the machine would magically know which answers on the quiz were correct.

Thank you for your comments regarding the fiscal year (FY) 2017 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and the integration of women into the Selective Service.  I appreciate hearing from you.

On June 14, 2016, the U.S. Senate passed its version of the FY 2017 NDAA by a vote of 85-13.  With our troops in harm’s way confronting serious and growing threats to our nation, I was proud to vote in support of the NDAA, which authorizes roughly $602 billion in necessary defense spending.  As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and Chair of the Readiness and Management Support Subcommittee, I worked to include more than 42 provisions in the Senate-passed FY 2017 NDAA and associated Committee Report that will strengthen our national security and support those who serve our country, including at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNSY), Pease Air National Guard Base, and in the New Hampshire National Guard.

The FY 2017 Senate-passed NDAA also includes a provision that would require all female citizens of the United States and females residing in the United States who attain the age of 18 years on or after January 1, 2018, to register for the Selective Service.  The Department of Defense has opened up all the combat billets for women who can meet the qualifications of those billets, and as a result, I believe women should now also register for the Selective Service.

As Chair of the Senate Armed Services Readiness and Management Support Subcommittee, I understand the importance of the Selective Service to our nation’s military readiness.  Please be assured that I will continue to closely monitor our nation’s military readiness, as well as any changes to the Selective Service.

To Our Eye-Fi X2 and Earlier Generation Product Customers:

 

This message is for customers that purchased an Eye-Fi Pro X2 or earlier generation products prior to March 2015.  Effective today, June 30th 2016, we will no longer be offering support for our legacy product lines, a complete list of which appears below.  This notice formally begins the final stage of the “end-of-life” (EOL) process started in mid-2015 for the affected products.  It’s very important that customers cease using these products no later than September 16, 2016 as some key services these products rely on will be shut down at that time.    All customers who have a Mobi or Mobi Pro products purchased since 2013 are not affected by this announcement.

We began EOL on these product lines in 2015 largely driven by technological obsolescence of some of the key technologies included in these products.  The primary technologies relate to Internet security and authentication mechanisms that were state-of-the-art in 2007 when we built them into our products but have since proven to be vulnerable.  Since mid-2015 we have been offering migration services free of charge for Customers who have paid Eyefi Premium accounts.  We will continue to offer this service migrating your Eyefi View data to Eyefi Cloud. You can request a migration here. For those customers that wish to use an Eyefi Mobi Pro card in place of their earlier generation products, we have also made a limited quantity available at a deep discount, see details here if you wish to take advantage of this offer.

Please note that we will maintain our customer service Web site and content for all customers.  The support site includes detailed explanations for how to accomplish migration to Eyefi Mobi/Mobi Pro and Eyefi Cloud services.  We are grateful to all the customers around the world that used Eye-Fi products in the past as well as for our newest customers.  The EOL of a product line is always difficult and we have made every effort to minimize the impact of this change on our customers.  Thanks for your loyalty and understanding.

I just purchased an X2 card, why isn’t it supported?

Eye-Fi began phasing out sales of the X2 product line in 2012.  The last version produced by the company were sold through authorized channels in the United States in March, 2015.  Although Eye-Fi stopped shipments of these products via authorized channels, some units were still available from third party sellers and after-market resellers.  Eye-Fi’s warranty period for the affected products purchased through our authorized channels has expired.

Will I still be able to create an Eye-Fi Center account after September 16th?

No, you will not be able to create an Eye-Fi Center account or log in to an existing Eye-Fi Center account.

Can I still download and install Eye-Fi Center applications after September 16th?

The Eye-Fi Center applications can be installed, but since account creation and logging in will no longer work, these applications will not be functional.

Will I be able to use my Eye-Fi 1.0 card after September 16, 2016?

Certain functions, such as Direct Mode, may not be directly impacted by our end of life process. If you wish to try Direct Mode you will need to set it up  prior to the end of life date. You can find instructions on how to set up direct mode here for Android and here for iOS. Please note that while Direct Mode may not be directly affected, Eye-Fi applications will no longer be updated for operating system updates, and their functionality is not guaranteed – additionally, no support will be provided either for the setup or functionality of Direct Mode. THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT DIRECT MODE CONFIGURATIONS WILL CONTINUE FUNCTIONING AFTER THE SEPTEMBER 16, 2016 SHUT DOWN.

Don’t get me wrong– I don’t mean “fix Social Security”. Oh no. That program is toast.

I’m talking about fixing this for yourself.

Retirement is one of those life events that is completely predictable. We know it’s going to happen.

And with a little bit of education, planning, discipline, and execution, we can vastly influence the outcome and prevent any major catastrophe from interfering with our goals.

You can dramatically boost your own nest egg, for example, and have much greater say over your retirement assets by setting up a structure like a solo 401(k) or a self-directed IRA.

It also makes sense to invest in your financial education; learning more about investing will clearly be beneficial in boosting your returns, and this can have a profound effect over time.

Especially if you’re younger, increasing your average return by just 1% over the course of 20-40 years can add up to hundreds of thousands of dollars in additional retirement savings.

You may also want to consider retiring abroad where you can live the lifestyle you’ve always wanted at a fraction of the price, and substantially stretch the time and value of your retirement savings.

Look, I’m convinced that Social Security will become a national emergency some day. Just remember that since its demise is conspicuously predictable, the impact on your life is completely preventable.

Social Security Insurance is like a Ponzi scheme.

At least the Ponzi victims made a free choice to “invest” in the scheme.

Every “worker” today has no choice but to accept an “investment” with an estimated negative return of between of 2 and 15%.

Further it’s a wealth transfer from poor minority men to rich white women.

So, why do we still have this racist scam.

Set people free to save for their own retirement.

Markets are in an uproar today after the UK voted to leave the EU. But has anyone bothered to look at what happens next? I think a lot of people believe that a British separation from the EU is inevitable, even imminent but nothing could be further from the truth.

By my estimation, it’s going to take at least two and a half years for the UK to make it’s transition and that’s assuming there are no political shenanigans that come up. Considering that a mere 2% separated the winners from the losers, it would not be at all unlikely to see some MP’s step up to block the referendum from being implemented.

What you need to understand is that we are years away from any change coming to the trading relationship between the UK and EU, and a lot can happen between now and then.

From the EU discussion, we’ll move to guns where I’ll play some interesting comments from Charlie Rangel, who apparently believes he deserves to be protected by guns while you should be forced to fend for yourself.

Obviously, BREXIT, if not sabotaged by the effete elite, will take several years to unwind.

Hopefully, it will spur a bunch of mini —EXITs. 

I hope New Hampshire is one, but I think Texas needs to lead and be first. (Although, imho, North Dakota with the fracking oil and the only State Bank — the Bank of North Dakota — is the best prepared to EXIT since it doesn’t need the “services” of the Federal Reserve.)

Dear Mr. Reinke,

Thank you for reaching out to me with your views regarding Selective Service, more commonly known as the military draft.  Listening to my constituents is a fundamental part of my job as it helps me to best represent you and New Hampshire’s priorities in Congress.

The men and women who serve our country deserve our utmost respect and recognition, regardless of their gender.  Today, women are taking on more responsibilities in our Armed Forces than ever before, from assuming new combat roles to reaching new heights in military leadership.  I support recent reforms allowing women to serve in new military combat roles, because all Americans should share in the responsibility of protecting our freedom and preserving our way of life. 

As you may know, Selective Service was originally enacted in 1917 as a response to World War I.  It has existed in various forms since that time, with today’s version, enacted in 1980, requiring all males to register for potential military service in the case of an emergency.  An amendment to the FY 2017 National Defense Authorization Act(NDAA), approved during House Armed Services Committee markup, would also require women to register.  As your Representative, please know that I will keep your thoughtful views in mind if I have the opportunity to vote on legislation concerning the Selective Service.

It’s hard to imagine a better endorsement of Donald Trump’s economic policies – whatever they may be, whenever he finds the time to explain them – than the recent endorsement of Hillary Clinton by former Goldman Sachs CEO and U.S. Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson.  As the man in charge of the biggest explosion of corporate welfare in world history – the “TARP” bailouts, he defined himself as a sworn enemy of capitalism and a socialist when it comes to the capital markets.  Socializing billions of dollars in investment bank, insurance company, and automobile industry losses with taxpayer dollars qualifies Paulson as deserving of the S-word label.  As such, Hillary Clinton may well have found a new political and financial soulmate.

The fellow who gave us TARP wants to keep the “music” going in this game of musical chairs.

Remember that TARP was originally passed as buying HOMEOWNER’S underwater mortgages and having them repay the Federal Gooferment in accordance with the original or relate terms. At least, that made some sense to keep folks in their homes. Somehow that morphed into a hand out all the Crony Capitalists.

Sorry, but I’m rooting for the rejection of HRC.

Picking Trump is like  choosing the prettiest horse in the glue factory coral.

But, if that’s what it takes to disrupt “the system”, then so be it.

The package also delivered a warning: A handwritten note attached to a stack of Veterans Affairs medical records. During the war, before I was born, Al had sprayed Agent Orange along riverbanks in Vietnam, often soaking his uniform in the herbicide. The exposure, he wrote, had caused him serious health problems, including a neurological disorder, and he believed it also might have harmed me.

My mind raced as I thought of my own troubled medical history. A heart defect diagnosed at birth. An underactive thyroid. Problems with my nervous and immune systems. More recently, Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and a nerve disorder that severely limits the use of my right hand.

I’m now 46. A lean 6-foot–2 and 190 pounds. I don’t smoke. I try to eat healthy. But the number of pills I swallow every day would make you think I’m twice that age. As a teenager, I was sick so often, I joked that my healthy brother and I couldn’t be related. He’d been born before the war, before Agent Orange.“There really is nothing that can be done now, as far as I know,” Al had written in 2009, “except be aware of the ravages of A.O.”

What my father didn’t know was that I’d already become familiar with Agent Orange and its consequences.

When I read this I shudder at the human casualties caused by this “weapon”.

Talk about “friendly fire” and “collateral damage”.

At the very least, the damage should be assessed.
