The Headline

Latest iteration of DREAM Act offers citizenship status to 2.7 million illegals

The Grind

House lawmakers on Tuesday voted 237-187 in favor of a bill that would cancel deportations and grant citizenship rights to millions of illegal immigrants.

The proposal offers “Dreamers” conditional permanent residency for 10 years if they meet the following criteria:

— Arrive in the US before age 18

— Live in the US for four years before proposal is enacted

— Have a GED or high school diploma

— Pass a background check

To obtain full citizenship, “Dreamers” must fulfill one of four requirements:

— Earn a college degree

— Complete a two-year program in technical school or other institution of higher learning

— Serve in the military

— Work in the US for at least three years

The bill offers permanent residency to TPS and DED recipients if they meet the following criteria:

— Live in the US for more than three years before proposal is enacted

— Do not have felony convictions or multiple misdemeanors

The Details

The Dream and Promise Act is the latest version of a sweeping legalization proposal introduced in 2001. As estimated by the Migration Policy Institute, it could grant legal protections to 2.7 million people.

“This is a day that glorifies what America is to the world,” said House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD). “A place of refuge, a place of safety, a place of opportunity.”

Republican critics who supported previous efforts to grant citizenship to “Dreamers” oppose this bill because it fails to address the emergency at the southern border and provides no strategy to reduce illegal immigration.

If passed, the Dream and Promise Act would produce even greater numbers of illegal immigration. Another sticking point for Republicans: the bill does not exclude immigrants with gang ties or DUI convictions.

The Takeaway

Democrats know the Dream and Promise Act will never make it through the Senate. What we are seeing here is a policy statement to voters ahead of the 2020 election: keep Democrats in office if you want to protect illegal immigrants.

I think that this captures the essence of the issue.  The D’s want more “illegals” voting; look at Wisconsin with the Muslim importation.  Swung the state.  And, it’s happening elsewhere.  End welfare and see how many stay?  And, it seem that most of the “immigrants” both here and in Europe are healthy young men with name brand sneakers and cell phones. I don’t see the “yearning to be free”.  End the deceptions  welfare / warfare D’s and the warfare / welfare R’s!

Let’s bring all the girls, boys, women, and men home now! We have so many politicians and bureaucrats to send in their place if it’s really needed!

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: “Political Capitalism” is the death of “Market Capitalism”

Thursday, May 16, 2019

https://tomwoods.com/ep-1403-the-origins-and-evils-of-crony-capitalism/

I heard a great podcast episode that really cleared away some fog in my understanding of “what’s wrong with the USA”!

The guest, Randall Holcombe, made the point that we no longer live under the system of “Market Capitalism”, but under a NEW system of “Political Capitalism”.

*** begin quote ***

Political capitalism is an economic and political system in which the economic and political elite cooperate for their mutual benefit. The economic elite influence the government’s economic policies to use regulation, government spending, and the design of the tax system to maintain their elite status in the economy. The political elite are then supported by the economic elite which helps the political elite maintain their status; an exchange relationship that benefits both the political and economic elite.

*** end quote ***

He translated Karl Marx’s “oppression of classes” into “those with political influence oppress those without it”.  Occupy Wall Street’s “the 1% oppress the 99%”.

It makes perfect sense as an explanation of how things are now working.

  • Argue against smoking but then giving tax subsidies to tobacco farmers.
  • Decry obesity but give “parity payments” to sugar producers.
  • Ethanol in gas means a payoff to farmers and raises food prices.
  • Bailouts of the “fat cat Wall Streeters” as opposed to the people being foreclosed on.

And on, and on, and on!

I didn’t hear a lot of solutions except for: (1) strongly objecting to anyone seeking “transfers from the public to the privileged individuals; and (2) opposition to every extension of Gooferment into every day life.

Argh!

How NASA’s two failed rocket launches came from fraudulent metals

*** begin quote ***

An incredible story of deception emerged in full yesterday, as NASA revealed the details of a decade-long investigation into two launch failures.

The cause? A metal manufacturer, which produced poor quality materials and then deliberately faked the test results to make sure they got paid.

What NASA and the DoJ said:

“For nearly 20 years, Sapa Profiles and Sapa Extrusions falsified critical tests on the aluminum they sold—tests that their customers, including the U.S. government, depended on to ensure the reliability of the aluminum they purchased,” said Assistant Attorney General Brian Benczkowski in a DoJ statement.

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: The Federal Gooferment should impose the same accounting standards on State Gooferments

Why the public-pension timebomb is growing even more deadly
By Steven Malanga
February 5, 2019 | 7:24pm

*** begin quote ***

The study found that, on average, female teachers were living 90 years, while male teachers lived 87.7 years. Female government workers in the general public-pension plans lived to 88.5; male government workers, 85.5.

By contrast, the Social Security Administration’s life expectancy tables show that men who reach 65 can expect on average to live 84.3 years, and women 86.7 years. A Society of Actuaries study of private-sector pension plans shows that members live longer than the general public but shorter than many government workers: men in these systems live on average to about 85.6 years old, and women to slightly more than 87.6 years old.

Workers’ life expectancy is an important factor, of course, in a pension fund’s financial picture. In the private sector, defined-benefit pensions must follow mortality tables issued by the federal government. No such strictures bind public pensions, and as the society’s study suggests, the rates used by government pension systems vary widely.

In 2014, several communities in Illinois discovered that officials were using mortality tables from 1971, when life expectancy was much shorter, which vastly underestimated pension costs. The resulting outcry forced those communities to update their calculations, and led to average increases in costs by about 20 percent.

*** end quote ***

As a little L libertarian, I have little use for the Gooferment. But if I am forced to live under their tyranny, then I’ll try to make it “better”.

As an fat old white guy retired injineer who’s a poor old senior citizen on a fixed income, I am concerned for myself and our posterity by the the current 121T+ national debt and the guesstimated 200T+ in unfunded liabilities.

Perhaps, the Federal Gooferment should impose the same accounting standards on State Gooferments as it does on corporations. I’m not sure that aligns with the idea that States have rights. It would seem that requiring all actors to use the latest statistics would at least help define the problem.

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Better that the homeless and needy starve?

A California Charity Becomes a Casualty of City Regulators
Remso Martinez•February 3, 2019

*** begin quote ***

Charity is a beautiful thing that everyone tends to support, regardless of creed or partisan slant. However, there is a strange concept of “forced” charity that both Republicans and Democrats try to enforce in their own various ways. Whether it is through entitlements, bailouts, or pork spending, some in government think that their involvement makes everything better, but in reality, those good intentions more often than not have adverse consequences.

*** and ***

The primary change for Deliverance is the requirement that no food may be prepared in a volunteer’s home, which has been our primary method of food preparation. The Board of Directors discussed options for utilizing an existing food prep facility, but due to the distributed nature of the organization, this option would prove to be cumbersome and perhaps only a short term solution to the problem. As a result, Deliverance, San Diego can no longer prepare hot meals for distribution to the homeless population of downtown San Diego without incurring significant logistical and financial costs.

*** and ***

If the government can create laws that restrict free people from providing a home cooked meal to the homeless, what is there to stop them from crafting a law that prohibits me from giving a pan of brownies to a neighbor? Or an office potluck where everyone brings a meal? This example might sound exaggerative but this whole situation creates a slippery slope for more state intervention in consensual and voluntary exchanges.

While the intentions of the regulators might be good, the homeless and needy probably would prefer a free meal instead of going hungry.

*** end quote ***

Remember this “homelessness” crisis was caused, at least in part, by the Gooferment closing mental institutions while promising community support, high property taxes, rental regulations, and the “(pseudo) War on (some) Drugs”.

So naturally we can’t have any solution other than a Gooferment one!

At this point, every single person who worked for the Miami Marlins when Jeffrey Loria owned the team should be under strict FBI surveillance. Robert Mueller should be stalking these people. They keep revealing themselves to be vampires.

Case in point: Loria’s former team president, David Samson, hopped onto a stage at ESPN personality Dan Le Batard’s birthday party over the weekend and bragged about fleecing Miami taxpayers and sports fans after Loria sold the team for literally a billion dollars. Samson then flipped off the crowd. GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Do you have a right to be free of searches without a warrant?

MAN CONVICTED OF OBSTRUCTION FOR REFUSING TO OPEN HIS DOOR FOR POLICE
Levi Pulkkinen   — Oct 17, 2018

*** begin quote ***

If his conviction stands, it could criminalize people who refuse to do things like unlock their phones or garages at police request.

Shouting voices coming from an apartment building broke the suburban quiet in the early hours of March 1, 2016.

A man walking past called officers to the Seattle-area apartment, reporting a loud argument. The yelling had stopped when police arrived outside Solomon McLemore’s Shoreline home, but was replaced by amplified demands from police that McLemore come out or let them in. As the incident stretched on, frustrations grew.

“Open the fucking door,” one officer demanded during the 15-minute exchange.

McLemore declined and stood by as police, having heard glass shatter inside the home, broke down the door. No one inside was hurt. But McLemore was arrested on suspicion of obstruction of a law enforcement officer for failing to open his home to police. He was convicted as charged on Sept. 29, 2016, following a three-day jury trial. Sentenced to 20 days under house arrest, McLemore began a series of appeals that landed his case in the Washington Supreme Court, which is expected to hear oral arguments Thursday.

If McLemore’s conviction stands, Washington would most likely be the only state to criminalize the refusal to assist police in a warrantless search.

*** and ***

Iannotti and the ACLU contend the framework put forward by prosecutors could lay the groundwork for obstruction charges against people who refuse to do things like unlock their phones or garages at police request. It makes it dangerous for residents to stand up for their rights.

“You have a right to be free of searches without a warrant,” Iannotti said. “A person shouldn’t be penalized for exercising that right.”

*** end quote ***

I wonder how this went.  If badly, I hope it gets appealed to the Supremes.

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: The Shocking Lack of Evidence

Monday, November 19, 2018

As it presently stands, it is not sound medical science, but primarily economic and political motivations which generate the immense pressure behind mass participation in the annual ritual of flu vaccination. It is a heavily guarded secret within the medical establishment (especially within the corridors of the CDC) that the Cochrane Database Review (CDR), considered by many within the evidence-based medical model to be the gold standard for assessing the therapeutic value of common medical interventions, does not lend unequivocal scientific support to the belief and/or outright propaganda that flu vaccines are ‘safe and effective.’ao-opts a natural process, generating a broad range of adverse unintended consequences, many of which have been documented here .

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: An interesting example of free market drugs

Tuesday, November 13, 2018

2018-Nov-13

Recently my fiancée went on a trip overseas for a week.  She realized that she was running low on her pain med for her amputation’s pain, so she went into town for a refill.  Walks into a pharmacy, tells them what she needs, and gets it no prescription, doctor involved, and no Gooferment forms.

Hmmm!

The next day, she decides to get some more.  Same foreign country; different town.  Goes into a different pharmacy, but they don’t have her “brand”.  But the helpful man says that he has Lyrica.  (Back in the good old USA, she could not get Lyrica be cause it wasn’t “covered” and cost $800 for 30 day supply.)  So she buys 10 pills for $22.  Never having taken in before, she waited to try it until she returned home.  Sure enough, it’s perfect for her pain.

Now she’s on a mission.  It takes a week to get the doctor to transmit a prescription to the pharmacy.  By the time, the pharmacy is closed.  (She’s in pain and she knows she needs the Lyrica.)  Calls the 24/7 pharmacy of the same company and begs.  Can’t transfer it because “it’s a controlled deadly drug”.  Really!  (They had  “transferred” her old other “controlled deadly drug” when we were in Seaside Heights and she ran out.)  She’s not taking than answer and after 30 minutes on the phone (most of which was on hold), they relent.

I drive down and get it.  $325 for 30 day supply.  Insurance deductible.

Argh!

Anyone wonder why I think the free market is a better answer to our needs.

Time to deregulate medical care?  I think so. Just make the FDA an advisory opinion. Stop the professional “license” game.

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Conservatives want to bypass usual way to amend Constitution

Monday, November 5, 2018

In the 1890s, when the Senate refused to take up the issue of direct election of senators, states pursued a convention, falling just short. Eventually, the 17th Amendment passed in the usual way, fulfilling that aim. In the 1960s, states sought a convention over a Supreme Court decision dictating how legislative districts were apportioned.

Seems like most Amendments are mistakes.  And the Gooferment takes power without amending the Constitution (i.e., Drug Prohibition; maintain standing armies; regulating other than interstate commerce; regulating drugs; interference in the healthcare system).

Personally, I’d repeal the Seventeenth  — direct election of the senate  — and return power to the States.

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Suspicious packages spotlight vast postal surveillance system | Notes From The Bunker

Sunday, October 28, 2018

The U.S. Postal Service regularly photographs the front and back of every piece of U.S. mail, or about 150 billion parcels, envelopes, and postcards every year. A longstanding practice known as the “mail cover” program enables law enforcement to obtain address information and images of the outsides of mail as part of an investigation without the need for a warrant through the Postal Inspection Service, the U.S. Postal Service’s policing arm.

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Is Education a Constitutional Right? | | Tenth Amendment Center

Saturday, October 27, 2018

An article in the September issue of The New Yorker makes the case that education is a fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution. It’s not. Public schools in Detroit are failing to educate students. Just like they are failing to do so in many large cities throughout the country. A case in the federal court system, Gary B. v. Snyder, filed by Public Counsel and Sidley Austin LLP on behalf of a class of Detroit students, argues that students in Detroit public schools who failed to learn how to read were denied their due process and equal protection rights under the Constitution’s Fourteenth Amendment. The case was dismissed by a federal district court in Michigan in June, but has been appealed to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati. The plaintiffs, as well as the writer of the piece in The New Yorker (Jill Lepore) cite the Supreme Court case of Plyler v. Doe (1982). In his book The Schoolhouse Gate: Public Education, the Supreme Court, and the Battle for the American

What we have here is a failure to communicate!

Rights can only be “negative”; “positive” ones require someone to pay for them.

A “right” to healthcare implies that the doctor must treat you or that someone has to pay for your care.  Either way someone is being made a slave!

So to, a “right” to “education”, enslaves someone to deliver or pay for that “education”. Again someone is enslaved.

It’s interesting that in poor third world countries, parents get their children educated.  Often without their Gooferment’s help and in some case despite their Gooferment’s hostility.

Here in the good old USA, the Gooferment “promises” to educate the children but fails miserably.  Yet, the enslaved Taxpayers are continually robbed to spend more and more money on a broken system.

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Government Crowd Out in Transportation | Cato @ Liberty

Saturday, September 15, 2018

The Urban Mass Transportation Act of 1964 (later redesignated the Federal Transit Act) provided loans and grants for transit capital acquisition, construction, and planning activities.… Notably, only public entities could apply for the federal grants. Given the availability of federal aid, many cities, states, and counties purchased or otherwise took over their local rail and bus systems. Thus by the 1970s, a largely new model of transit provision—public ownership—had become increasingly prevalent in the United States. Many jurisdictions consolidated the operations of smaller private and public systems under the auspices of regional transit authorities. A few states, such as Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Jersey, formed statewide transit agencies.

$4 Billion in SNAP Money Went to Improper Food Stamp Payments
Katherine Rodriguez — 1 Jul 2018

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) spent a total of $4 billion on improper food stamp payments to those receiving benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the USDA confirmed with Breitbart News on Friday.

The USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service announced this week that improper payments made up 6.3 percent of SNAP money in the fiscal year (FY) 2017—the latest data available from the agency.

Breitbart News analyzed the USDA’s data on food stamp spending and found that $4,007,026,532 of the $63,603,595,754 the agency spent on SNAP in FY 2017 went to improper payments.

The USDA told Breitbart News that “it is important to note that improper payments include both overpayments and underpayments,” meaning that households on SNAP that received less than what they were supposed to receive for the month are also included in the percentage rate.

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Eric Peter’s Reader Rant! “We” Need and “I Believe”…

Here’s the latest reader rant, with my comments below: Dave writes: I went for years as a healthy individual until a staph infection last April. Almost died. I am 75. You never know when it is your turn to be sick . So I am on the state insurance called Medicare.

Source: Reader Rant! “We” Need and “I Believe”…

*** begin quote ***

I agree that you never know when it is your turn to be sick. But that is not the issue. The issue – the moral issue – is whether your sickness and associated expenses impose an obligation upon me enforceable at gunpoint. And mine on you. My position is that they do not. That your life is yours and mine is mine and we each ought to be free to live our lives as we think best; to plan for life’s exigencies and regardless of them, accept that our problems, whether the result of irresponsibility or not, don’t give us the moral right to pick up guns and point them at other people.

As a little L libertarian, I agree that essentially EVERYONE is responsible for their own care.  However, under the guise of “insurance”, the Gooferment has made many promises, suggestions, “spins”, and innuendos about “coverage”.  So it’s no wonder that one of the “clovers” (Peter’s name for “We, The Sheeple”) is confused.  Given the “education” that passes for what happens in Gooferment Skrules, it’s no wonder that the disaster is ongoing.

I empathize with those of us in the same boat.  The Gooferment has stolen our savings by “taxation” and “inflation” in exchange for (non-existent) “protection” and (bankrupt and misrepresented) “insurance”.

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: The Untold Story of Japan’s Secret Spy Agency

“Very few people know what the DFS is doing and can enter the building,” according to an active-duty official with knowledge of the directorate’s operations, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media. The official agreed to share details about the directorate after The Intercept and NHK last year revealed that the spy agency had obtained a mass surveillance system called XKEYSCORE, which is used to sift through copies of people’s emails, online chats, internet browsing histories, and information about social media activity. The official said that they believed the directorate’s use of XKEYSCORE was “not permissible” under the Japanese Constitution, which protects people’s right to privacy.

Here’s an example of why no Gooferment’s Deep State can be trusted or contained by mere “constitution”.  Lysander Spooner had it right.

“Inasmuch as the Constitution was never signed, nor agreed to, by anybody, as a contract, and therefore never bound anybody, and is now binding upon nobody; and is, moreover, such an one as no people can ever hereafter be expected to consent to, except as they may be forced to do so at the point of the bayonet, it is perhaps of no importance what its true legal meaning, as a contract, is. Nevertheless, the writer thinks it proper to say that, in his opinion, the Constitution is no such instrument as it has generally been assumed to be; but that by false interpretations, and naked usurpations, the government has been made in practice a very widely, and almost wholly, different thing from what the Constitution itself purports to authorize. He has heretofore written much, and could write much more, to prove that such is the truth. But whether the Constitution really be one thing, or another, this much is certain – that it has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it. In either case, it is unfit to exist.” Lysander Spooner (1808-1887), No Treason (1870) http://praxeology.net/LS-NT-6.htm#no.6

4:55 p.m.

Mandalay Bay security guard Jesus Campos told police he was afraid he was going to be killed when he was shot by gunman Stephen Paddock while investigating a stairwell door that was being kept shut by a metal bracket.

Records released by Las Vegas police Wednesday show Campos was interviewed Oct. 4 on the 32nd floor of the casino-resort. That’s the same floor from which the gunman carried out the attack.

Campos says he initially received a call from dispatch around 10 p.m. and was told to check “doors” as the property has a system that signals when a door has been opened for long periods.

He says he reached the 32nd floor through an elevator after noticing the stairwell door that leads to the hallway was locked or secured. He says he then walked down the hall and discovered a metal bracket keeping the door shut. He contacted security and maintenance.

Campos says he then heard what sounded like a “very loud drill,” was shot in the left calf while walking away, heard what he described as automatic fire and contacted security dispatch.

California expected to mandate solar panels for new homes

The California Energy Commission will vote on the new solar energy standard Wednesday, Southern California News Group reported.

“California is about to take a quantum leap in energy standards,” Bob Raymer, technical director for the California Building Industry Association, told the newspaper. “No other state in the nation mandates solar, and we are about to take that leap.”

The proposed solar standards would add about $25,000 to $30,000 to the cost of home construction, said C.R. Herro, Meritage Homes’ vice president of environmental affairs, according to the report.

But the cost should result in a savings of $50,000 to $60,000 over 25 years, he said.

So it sounds like, from the individual buyers pov, it’s a wash.  What’s the time value of money?  And, how much do they “save” by buying versus renting?

The Gooferment puts the house out of reach price wise.

You can think about it like you have to buy the house with the extra option.  Even if you don’t “need” it to get in the door or can afford it.

The ego of the politicians and bureaucrats is amazing and will keep people “poor” and renting.

Argh!

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Defy Mueller, Mr. Trump – LewRockwell

If Donald Trump does not wish to collaborate in the destruction of his presidency, he will refuse to be questioned by the FBI, or by a grand jury, or by Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his malevolent minions.Should Mueller subpoena him, as he has threatened to do, Trump should ignore the subpoena, and frame it for viewing in Trump Tower. If Mueller goes to the Supreme Court and wins an order for Trump to comply and testify to a grand jury, Trump should defy the court. The only institution that is empowered to prosecute a president is Congress. If charges against Trump are to be brought, this is the arena, this is the forum, where the battle should be fought and the fate and future of the Trump presidency decided.

“The only institution that is empowered to prosecute a president is Congress.”

Isn’t this the essential Constitutional check ‘n’ balance?

The Dead Old White Guys were fearful of a “tyrant” but knew the essential qualities of “politicians”.  Untrustworthy.

Fired FBI Director James Comey has repeatedly denied during his book tour that he ever testified that FBI agents concluded that retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn didn’t intentionally mislead them.

That adamant assertion came into question Friday night when the Republican majority on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence released portions of Mr. Comey’s closed-door testimony. The section had been classified when the panel’s Russia report was first released last month.

In the now-declassified pages, Mr. Comey is quoted verbatim as saying agents, in fact, assessed Mr. Flynn as not being deceptive. Agents questioned him about his phone calls during the presidential transition with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

Mr. Comey testified, “The agents …. discerned no physical indications of deception. They didn’t see any change in posture, in tone, in inflection, in eye contact. They saw nothing that indicated to them that he knew he was lying to them.”

*** end quote ***

So what is the remedy for Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn; where does he go to get his reputation back?

And, what is the penalty for James Comey; he either lied to Congress or to the American People?  Has he ever been interviewed by an FBI agent and lied? (Remember Martha Stewart?)

So many questions; so few answers. Where’s the “truth”?

Argh!

Am I the only one asking?

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: The government school is the sacrament of the American religion?

FROM TOM WOOD’S EMAIL

*** begin quote ***

Our most recent episode of Contra Krugman — my weekly podcast with Bob Murphy that takes apart a Paul Krugman New York Timescolumn — took on Krugman’s claims about education, teacher salaries, and spending.

The government school is the object of veneration of the American religion.

Therefore, it’s become impossible to view it objectively.

But that’s what we did in our episode.

For example, surveys of adults in a variety of subject areas, from science to history to government, finds most unable to demonstrate even basic competence. It’s a disaster.

This after 13 years in the government’s system.

Just days ago the National Assessment of Educational Progress, a project of the U.S. Department of Education, reported that 65 percent of American eighth graders are not proficient at reading, and 67 percent are not proficient in math.

Students emerge from their 13 years, furthermore, without a single skill that can command a decent wage. In the age of the Internet, they’ve been taught none of the basics of how to make an online living.

Now if the private sector generated such atrocious results, we’d never hear the end of it. Why, these fatcats care nothing about education or the poor. Just their own profits!

But since it’s the government, we get…silence. Oh, and demands for more money.

(If the schools were run by Walmart, do you suppose these folks would accept the “we need more money” excuse?)

*** end quote ***

Gooferment Skrules are a disaster in every dimension, imho!!!

There were two great “definitions”:

  • The Federal Government is an insurance company with an army.
  • The State Governments are educational companies with police forces.

So true!

Seems like “We, The Sheeple” need to separate “insurance” and “education” from Gooferment.

Argh!

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Social Security is a Ponzi scheme

Are You Ready to Work Until You Die?
By Mark Nestmann — April 20, 2018

*** begin quote ***

Social Security suffers from a fundamental problem: it’s a Ponzi scheme, referred to in more polite company as a pay-as-you-go system. Benefits aren’t banked for payment to the persons who earned them. Rather, like a Ponzi scheme, early “investors” have first access to the funds. The so-called Social Security Trust Fund doesn’t exist, at least not in the form most people believe it does. It represents only an entitlement to future benefits, financed by future payments from workers.

Ponzi schemes work as long as the numbers of persons paying into the system and those receiving payouts stay in the same approximate proportion. The proportion of people paying into the Social Security system to beneficiaries is now at a historic low. And in the next 25 to 50 years the ratio will go even lower. In 1960, the worker-to-beneficiary ratio was 5.1:1. In 2005, it was 3.3:1. In 2020, it will be about 2.6:1. It is projected to be 2:1 by 2060.

Unfortunately, even that projection is optimistic because millions fewer workers will be paying into the system than even the most pessimistic scenarios estimate. Researchers at Oxford University estimate that a stunning 47% of US jobs could be eliminated in the next two decades.

Bridging the enormous gap between the benefits promised to retirees and the resources available to meet those promises requires a long-term infusion of trillions of dollars. The Board of Trustees for the Social Security Administration (SSA) publishes an annual report on the sustainability of Social Security benefits. In 2012, the board projected that full benefits could be paid through 2038. In 2016, the board projected Social Security would be insolvent in 2035. Meanwhile, the Congressional Budget Office, a non-partisan federal agency, projects an insolvency date of 2029.

*** end quote ***

That’s the problem with Gooferment. It makes promises that it can’t keep.

I remember my family discussing many things but Social Security was described as the sacred cow of FDR. My uncles blamed it for breaking up families by permitting old people to move to Florida.

Only later, in college economics, did I realize that Social Security was a “plot” to transfer wealth from poor minority men to rich white women. Conspiracy Theorist supreme! (YACT = Yet Another Conspiracy Theory) It also deprived the poor of their only asset that they accumulated that should have been left to their heirs.

Even later, I heard about Chile who privatized their “social security” system and turned it into a national asset of capital formation. I attributed their success to the fact that the population was illiterate and the designer made it brain dead simple with strict rules and animal logos. While the people may have been illiterate, they certainly understood it was their money.

Where is “We, The Sheeple” DEMANDING “social security” reform. If MetLife did what the Congress has done, then all the executives would be in jail.

Argh!

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: The BHO44 DOJ interfered in the Clinton Foundation investigation

Behind The IG Report — How The Obama Justice Department Tried To Shut Down The FBI’s Investigation Into The Clinton Foundation
RICHARD POLLOCK — Reporter — 8:37 PM 04/15/2018

  • The Department of Justice Inspector General released a report Friday claiming “lack of candor” by former FBI deputy Director Andrew McCabe
  • The report also details Justice Department’s influence to close a multi-state investigation into the Clinton Foundation
  • The IG claims McCabe leaked DOJ’s pressure to end the Clinton investigation to battle claims he was partial to the Clintons

*** begin quote ***

The Department of Justice Inspector General report on the “lack of candor” by FBI deputy Director Andrew McCabe also documents for the first time the Obama administration’s effort to shut down the bureau’s investigation of the Clinton Foundation, according to a review of the report by The Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group.

*** and ***

The question is how much additional pressure did the Obama administration apply upon the FBI to end its investigation of the Clinton Foundation. The IG’s report is silent on this point.

*** end quote ***

Seems factual that the BHO44 DOJ interfered in the Clinton Foundation investigation.

How high did the interference go?

To BHO44 himself?

Who knew what and when?

Argh!
