It’s roots are evil.
How about a rule that only real people can contribute to a campaign?

How about a rule limiting amounts?
Oh, we have that already. That created “straw donations”!
How about a rule preventing foreigners?
Oh we have that already. That created “fake donors”!
See the politicians like the system just the way it is.
