Friendly Neighborhood Liberty Dollars – LD Network

In 1991, a man named Paul Glover introduced what would become the most successful Community Currency to date: Ithaca Hours, which are based on one hour of human labor. A single Hour is valued at $1…

Well the "Don Quixotes of Money" are back with a new run at the fiat currency call the "dollar" aka "Federal Reserve Banknote". Derogatorily called a "FRBie" in the hard money & survivalist communities.

If you remember the original episode, then you'll remember that when their idea of an alternative currency began to get traction, the politicians and bureaucrats came down on them with a "heavy hammer". (To bad, I was not on that jury. How anyone could confuse a big silver coin or a strange sized colorful bill as a "greenback" was beyond me.)
Having dodged a long prison sentence for “counterfeiting”, I thought that this would fold like most “community currencies”.  But I was wrong.
Now they have still repeated the original mistake of using the word "dollar".  Of course, the current FRBies bear as much resemblance to the original "dollar" aka Thaller as I do an Olympic Athlete in any sport. Well maybe sumo.

I’ll probably buy a few as a conversation starter.  Maybe even for a 1K oz of silver, (15.07 * 1,000 = 15,070), I’ll have some “Kendall Park”, “South Brunswick”, or maybe even “Tyne Court” dollars printed.  Laugh!

I really admire the tenacity of these “hard money champions”.  Like the “Charge of the Light Brigade”, “Custer’s Last Stand”, Stalingrad, Agincourt, history is littered with historical examples of the hopeless and hapless casualties of stupidity.
All that being said, I hope that they can impact the discussion of "hard money" versus "fiat money" that we have now. To see the human cost of the unConstitutional "money", we just have to look at the welfare / warfare state, the national debt that will never be repaid, the unfunded liabilities of Gooferment promises & "pensions", as well as the destruction of savers and investors.  Hard to itemize all the bad things that happened when Jackson, Lincoln, Wilson, FDR, and Nixon got involved in "money".  Argh!

HOW WORLD WAR I CHANGED AMERICA
31st July 2014 by: Tom Woods

Robert Higgs joined me today as World War I week continues on the Tom Woods Show. Bob, a scholar of government growth (among many other things) is uniquely qualified to discuss the institutional and other changes in American life that resulted from the Great War.

There is no doubt that the “Peace Candidate” Wilson put the USA into the European War.

There is no doubt that the Federal Reserve allow Wilson to “pay” for WW1.

There is no doubt that the draft was involuntary servitude.

There is no doubt that the USA was an isolationist (i.e., Swiss) neutral.

There is no doubt that the Lusitania was carrying munitions in violation of Neutrality.

There is no doubt that the Armistice set the stage for Hitler and WW2.

And, when we gather for 11/11 at 11AM, we should all pray Dona Nobis Pacem!

INTERESTING: Lusitania carry munitions. US entry into WW1 was on bad intelligence or gooferment deceit!

Her sinking with the loss of almost 1,200 lives caused such outrage that it propelled the U.S. into the First World War.

But now divers have revealed a dark secret about the cargo carried by the Lusitania on its final journey in May 1915.

Munitions they found in the hold suggest that the Germans had been right all along in claiming the ship was carrying war materials and was a legitimate military target.

Wilson moves up on the list of “worst president”.

Either a fool or a fraud?

He campaigned on a “keep us out of war” platform and then rushed us into it.

Once again, it appears that the public was lied to and manipulated.

When do we wise up?

RANT: Lincoln wasnt the worst, but close!

PROVISION #588 (10/26/08): PROBABLY NO GOD?

*** begin quote ***

Did that title get your attention? If so then the campaign to put secularist posters on the sides of British buses may achieve its intended result. But I think the posters miss the mark. The problem is not with God; the problem is with parochial ideas of God. That’s what Abraham Lincoln had to say in his Second Inaugural Address (reprinted below). It is also what I understand to be the true nature of here, now, and forever. God is no Judge; God is Understanding.

*** and ***

People love to find someone or something to blame. It’s called scapegoating, and we do it to God just as much as we do it to other people and things. But I stand with Lincoln. There are no simple answers as to who or what is to blame. There are no good guys or bad guys; there are only people who are seeking to meet their needs as best they know how. We can respect each other for that and, if we choose to do so, we can learn to understand the Understanding that what would make life more wonderful for us all.

I like the “Provisions” as thought-provoking.

Unfortunately, citing Lincoln, throws me into a tizzy.

I am from the school of thought that the Second American Revolution, aka what the winners call the “Civil War”, aka what the losers call the “Wr of Northern Aggression”, was about taxes. Not slavery.

The Industrial North wanted to prosper at the expense of the Agrarian South.

Lincoln was not the heroic figure portrayed by the media as “freeing the slaves”. He was a venial politician that was in the pockets of the railroads. He had no interest in slavery, except as it appealed to his base.

The world, for the most part, eliminated slavery peacefully.

He waged war on the civilian population, which up to that point was unheard of.

The vaunted Emancipation Proclamation freed slaves in the areas he didn’t control. What happened to the ones in areas he did control.

No, a poor example distracts me from the point of the Provision, i.e., our mistaken notion of God.

AND, Lincoln converted the “United States of America” into the empire of the USA. The States forever were lost in terms of a check on the power of the Federal Government.

In the pantheon of Presidents, Lincoln has to rank at the bottom, or close to it.

His competition for the bottom might be FDR for removing us from the Gold Standard, or Truman for Hiroshima / Nagasaki.

Upon reflection, Lincoln gets nudged out by Wilson. He campaigned on “Peace” and immediately got us into WW1. WW1’s “peace settlement” led to WW2. And, Wilson signed the Federal Reserve Act which created the exact thing that Andrew Jackson killed. An engine of debt and inflation.

Sigh, please give us more ineffective and merely corrupt politicians. The “idealists” kill us and Liberty.
