A federal appeals court ruled in Connecticut’s favor in a dispute over the state’s removal of the religious exemption to its vaccine mandate. Connecticut law mandates vaccinations for “schoolchildren, college and university students, and childcare participants.”

The plaintiffs objected on religious grounds “to us[ing] or benefit[ing] from the use of aborted fetal cells” from stem cell lines used to produce some vaccines.

Addressing the childrearing argument, the appeals court acknowledged parents’ right to “the care, custody, and control of their children” but held the childrearing claim could not exist independent of the First Amendment claim, which the appeals court already rejected.

Any Amish, Mennonites, Quakers in the 2nd Circuit? They about to be told to sign up for selective service among other things based on the logic of this opinion. If a compelling State interest applied in a neutral manner is all it takes to override religious belief/freedom of conscience exemptions there’s a whole lot of new room for the State to require all sorts of things.

I find this stunning!

I can’t think of any more basic right then the rights recognized by the First Amendment.

While I disagree with “incorporation” that somehow makes the States subject to the Bill of Rights, if that is the “playing field” we are on, then surly the First Amendment covers the issue.  The plaintiffs are being enslaved right before our eyes by a tyrannical State Gooferment.

What comes next?

Clearly, Massachusetts residents need to move to New Hampshire.

And, the rest of us need to prepare to do battle on this issue in our own States.  Since tyranny doesn’t stop with one State.

A buyout should cover the value of the house before the flood. 

What were the rules in effect when the flood occured?

What we need is a movement of people who recognize that nullification is not only possible, but necessary. The problem is that Americans have been forced to choose between two private corporations posing as political parties that do not embrace a duty to protect Americans’ freedom and liberty. That is perhaps the most telling symptom of our current problems. A Union that was formed to protect the people’s inalienable rights and liberties has no political party addressing those foundational concerns on the national stage.  

Perhaps it is time to throw all the bums out, so that we may begin representing ourselves.

What’s happening: The city of Phoenix ordered four prefabricated shelters from local company Steel + Spark last year and installed the first outside St. Vincent de Paul’s Washington Street shelter this week.

It has 10 single rooms and six double rooms for couples.

Why it matters: This type of interim independent living provides an important step for unhoused people between staying in congregate shelter and building the confidence to enter permanent housing, St. Vincent de Paul chief program officer Jessica Berg told Axios Phoenix.

The intrigue: All four X-Wings and a 200-bed structure were to be installed at a new shelter at 22nd Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road intended to open this summer.

Yes, but: The city found methane gas at the site and stopped construction last month. Officials tell us they are looking for a new area to build the shelter, but have not yet found a site.

What’s next: Scott Hall, Phoenix’s deputy homeless solutions director, said the city decided to deploy the X-Wing at St. Vincent de Paul in the interim to make immediate use of the shelter and see how it works.

He added the city may find additional places to put the other three wings, but did not yet have details.

Kudos for finding a “solution”.  Seems to be a great idea and almost great execution.  Who forgets to solid test for any construction.  Does everyone forget the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

In any event, it’s a partial solution.  It needs plumbing to be a complete idea.

Maybe consult with some RV designers for ideas?

My travel trailer back in the 70’s had it correct.

The poor “unhoused people”, what I’d call “homeless”, need less Gooferment “help” and more “free market solutions”.  

Whatever happened to Jason Stapleton’s(@Jason_Stapleton) idea of “military style barracks” staffed by the homeless themselves as a safe bridge back to society?

We can argue the ethics of hunting all day long. On the one hard, you have the cruel barbarism of fox hunting. On the other hand, you had paid permit hunting for big, exotic game (*where the permit only allows for specifically designated culls and profit goes directly to conservation).

But canned hunting? F**k. At least fox hunting and permit hunting require some measure of skill and afford some opportunity for the animal to escape.

Canned hunts are often marketed as “exotic game ranches;” places people go to get a guaranteed kill of a particular species. You know how you get that guaranteed kill? Because the game are fenced in and are often reliant on human care (so they have limited fear of humans compared to their wild roaming counterparts). There’s nothing sporting about it.

Imagine going to a dairy farm and bragging about how you bagged a big cow. That’s what canned hunting sounds like to others.

I can applaud hunters, who like the Zulu youth when they go out to become man by hunting a lion with a short spear and small reed shield.  I don’t know what the win – loss ratio is but, at least, the lion has a fair shot. And it’s their tradition, not mine.

I can tolerate those who hunt for food if they eat what they kill. Also, those who do permit hunting to conserve a species.  Even those who hun bears before they become dangerous to people and donate the captures to food pantries and soup kitchens.

I can not shame those “hunters”, who are cruel or use “canned” victims, enough.

Nothing can be more demeaning than to claim a great achievement when “shooting fish in a barrel”.

A Department of Energy rule requiring new lightbulbs to have a minimum brightness of 45 lumens went into effect in the United States yesterday, effectively banning incandescent lightbulbs. Incandescent bulbs, though cheaper upfront than light-emitting diodes, are likely to burn out 30 times faster and are more costly than LEDs in the long term (see comparison). Recent consumer surveys suggest over half of US households already partly or entirely use LEDs as general-use lightbulbs, whose longer life span has likely contributed to the 40% decline in lightbulb shipments over the last decade.

Some studies have suggested the flickering and coloration of LED lights can trigger migraines and other conditions in people with light sensitivity issues.

At risk of being annoying, I’d suggest you take the time to read this short article.

Now with the Gooferment inflating the currency by more than 2% per year, the purchasing power of your savings diminishes proportionally. 

I can remember penny candy, nickel cigars, and 30¢ a gallon gass. What has changed since the 1960’s? It is the value of a dollar. AKA the purchasing power of a dollar.

In the days before FDR took the USA off the gold standard, prices always declined. After that, because the Gooferment printed more money, prices always went up.

Before FDR, folks could save cash money (i.e., gold and silver coins) for their old age. After FDR, hold “cash” was a losing proposition.

This article recommends that you youngsters save some of your wealth in bitcoins. He even goes so far as to fore go putting that wealth into an IRA to keep it away from Gooferment rules — now and in the future.

I’ve always been a fan of “averaging into any investment” unless there was a strong reason not to. For my generation, IRAs and 401ks made perfect sense. But then, there were a lot of strategies that were good for “us” that I wouldn’t recommend (i.e., go to work for the Gooferment or a big company and stay there for 50 years to draw a pension). 

No one can tell you what is right for you. Even me. Our advice is based on our experience. Like a buggy whip maker telling his children that the family buggy whip business has a great future.

All I am suggesting is to read this article and lots of other ones. Then place your bets on what’s best for you. 

If you want to chat, fine. If you want to just ignore this, that’s fine too.

Younger workers with the most years to pay into the system and groups with below-average lifespans are the ones who have the poorest returns, a Heritage Foundation official says.

Your “investment” in Social Security may well return ZERO!

I’d like to refute his specific prescriptions from little L libertarian pov.

“Renegotiate free trade agreements and impose compensatory tariffs on imports from low-wage countries.”

Tarriffs are a tax on “We, The Sheeple”.  A better suggestion would be to End The Fed from whence all bad things economically come.

“Rein in military spending.”

Again End The Fed which allows the Congress to borrow and spend. End the Warfare State and we don’t “need” a huge “military budget” which is a payoff to the Military Industrial Complex who in turn pay off the politicians and bureaucrats.

“Cut healthcare costs with Medicare-for-all, restrict pharmaceutical companies’ profiteering, and redirect a portion of medical research toward inexpensive natural, holistic, and alternative therapies.”

We don’t need more welfare.  Put the patients aback in charge by implementing a copay.  That how insurance companies moderate demand.  Eventually push the true cost completely to the consumer.  Break up the large corporations into smaller competitive units. 

“Implement some form of student debt relief. Allow student debt to be dischargeable in bankruptcy. Cut interest rates on student loans to zero.”

Kill Sallie Mae and all the GSEs that encourage irational debt.  Make the schools liable for their “product” and their sales techniques. It was used on the for profit “education” mills.

“Raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour – about the level it was in 1968 – which will raise the floor on all wages and return a share of productivity growth back to workers.”

Zero is the correct minimum wage.  It would allow the poor minorities who are screwed by a bad “education lobby” to begin to climb the ladder to success. Never saw a “poor plumber”.  

“Close loopholes and tighten enforcement against illegal corporate union-busting activity. The NLRB and Department of Justice must take vigorous action to enforce the letter and the spirit of the law.”

Close the loopholes where large corporations prevent competition by “lawfare”, “intellectual property”, and media manipulation.  Use the tax code to: (1) limit the size of corporation buy limiting their top line size; and (2) change the CEO and all corporate types comp :(1) from cash  — no one’s salary should be larger than the Presidents  — to their corporate bonds laddered over some number of decades (like Wall Street does vesting bonus over years to keep employees in “golden handcuffs”).  This would change the focus on “quarterly earnings” to long term fiscal stability (i.e., why should past managements get take the loot and walks away from the disaster they leave behind).

Sorry but RFK Jr. is a liberal democrat who sees Gooferment as the answer.  Us little L libertarians see the Gooferment as the problem.

It seems that once again “We, The Sheeple” are getting the shaft.

“We” extend copyrights to content creators to encourage making content available.

BUT, (and there is always a BIG butt), “We, The Sheeple” don’t get access to the content we are protecting.

Reasonable people may disagree but taking “copyrighted content” back in a vault is not in the spirit of copyright law.

As with most little L libertarians, copyrights and intellectual property is on shaky ground to start with and now should definitely be revisited.
