Same-Sex Spouses to Get New Federal Rights

The Obama administration will give same-sex couples who are legally married the same status as other married couples in federal legal matters—including bankruptcy proceedings, prisoner visitation and death benefits for slain police officers, Attorney General Eric Holder said.

The Justice Department, Mr. Holder said, would issue new instructions to its employees on Monday to extend the same protections historically afforded to heterosexual married couples. He made the announcement at a speech in New York to the Human Rights Campaign, a major gay-rights advocacy group.

RANT: Debt Ceiling; what joke!

Tuesday, February 11, 2014

House Votes to Suspend Debt Ceiling Until March 2015
The House voted to suspend the nation’s borrowing limit until March 16, 2015, without any policy conditions, a tactical retreat by Republicans stymied by their internal divisions.

The bill cleared the House in a 221-201 vote, relying on the support of a majority of Democrats and pushing the next debate over the issue until after the 2014 midterm elections. Most Republicans opposed the debt-ceiling suspension, which came to the floor without any of the policy proposals they hoped would sweeten its sting for conservatives.

The measure now heads to the Democratic-controlled Senate, where leaders have expressed optimism it will soon pass.

LIBERTARIAN: MYOB & fiscally conservative and socially liberal

Rise of the Libertarians, 10 reasons why Slate, Salon and the progressive media are afraid
By Nick Sorrentino on February 7, 2014

*** begin quote ***

1. Libertarianism is the new “center.” At the risk of raising the hackles of the hyperanalytical, consider this: Most people think of Ds as being on the left and Rs as being on the right. Remember: It’s about popular perceptions. And when we think in terms of those perceptions, most people think of Rs as being fiscally and socially conservative and Ds as being fiscally and socially liberal. The old center was once about being either squishy in both departments, or about being fiscally liberal and socially conservative. But a new “center” is emerging. As people become disaffected with all the bad economic policies of the Obama administration and all of the preachy moralisms of the Republican status quo, most are gravitating to a position that looks decidedly more libertarian—that is, fiscally conservative and socially liberal.

*** end quote ***

It’s even more fundamental than that: I don’t want to pay for anything I don’t want. And, I don’t care what you do as long as you don’t hurt anyone else.

Golden Rule: I want you to be as free as I want to be.

Stop Making Plans: How Goal-Setting Limits Rather Than Begets Our Happiness and Success
by Maria Popova

*** begin quote ***

The effectualists include the cook who scours the fridge for leftover ingredients; the chemist who figured out that the insufficiently sticky glue he had developed could be used to create the Post-it note; or the unhappy lawyer who realises that her spare-time photography hobby, for which she already possesses the skills and the equipment, could be turned into a job. One foundation of effectuation is the “bird in hand” principle: “Start with your means. Don’t wait for the perfect opportunity. Start taking action, based on what you have readily available: what you are, what you know and who you know.” A second is the “principle of affordable loss”: Don’t be guided by thoughts of how wonderful the rewards might be if you were spectacularly successful at any given next step. Instead — and there are distinct echoes, here, of the Stoic focus on the worst-case scenario — ask how big the loss would be if you failed. So long as it would be tolerable, that’s all you need to know. Take that next step, and see what happens.

POLITICAL: Gooferment rules apply universally, automatically, and unavoidably

Column by Paul Hein.

*** begin quote ***

The fact that certain rules, of, say, a sport, or a social organization, no longer apply to you does not mean that you are thereby exempted from ordinary ethical and moral behavior. It only means that you have separated yourself from the organization whose rules you formerly voluntarily accepted.

Ah, all except one organization: government. Our Rulers assume that you are on their team, and subject to their rules, which they have drawn up, and frequently modify. The Cardinals, or Ford, or the Knights of Columbus can draw up whatever rules they want, and change them as they see fit, but so what? If you don’t belong to those organizations, it’s moot, as far as you’re concerned.

But the rules laid down by the Rulers, which they call “law,” are thought, as least by the Rulers, to apply universally, automatically, and unavoidably. And any attempts at withdrawal will be dealt with severely: consider the Confederacy.

Was “Mystery Bullet” At Parkland Hospital Supposed To Be The Original Magic Bullet?

Jurriaan Maessen

February 1st, 2014

*** begin quote ***

One of the first nurses present at Parkland Hospital to receive the fatally wounded Kennedy has very recently told an audience she observed a bullet lodged between the president’s ear and shoulder. This bullet, or any mention of it, later completely vanished from the autopsy-reports.

As the Sunday Mirror reports, the nurse recalls a “mystery bullet” lodged in the president’s body ” between his ear and his shoulder”.

“It was pointed at its tip and showed no signs of damage.”, Hall noted. “There was no blunting of the bullet or scarring around the shell from where it had been fired.”

“I’d had a great deal of experience working with gunshot wounds, but I had never seen anything like this before. It was about one-and-a-half inches long – nothing like the bullets that were later produced.

Hall also said, “It was taken away but never have I seen it presented in evidence or heard what happened to it. It remains a mystery.”

A mystery indeed. What’s especially mysterious is the fact that Hall describes the unusual bullet to be in pristine condition- showing no signs of being ejected from a firearm. This reminds us somewhat of the next to pristine bullet found on the stretcher at Parkland, later known has the magic bullet- one of the three supposed bullets fired by Lee Harvey Oswald from the 6th floor of the Texas School Book Depository. This mention of yet another bullet (quite different from the other bullets supposedly fired from the mail-order Mannlicher Carcano)

2) Raising minimum wage will help families

Obama sayeth, “[We] have a bill to fix that by lifting the minimum wage to $10.10… This will help families. It will give businesses customers with more money to spend… So join the rest of the country. Say yes. Give America a raise.”

It’s not hard to believe that Obama, who has never run a business, doesn’t understand that artificially forcing a business to pay someone more than their wage is worth will put more people out of the labor market. Making job creation more expensive leads to fewer jobs.

Price Inflation Will Force the US Mint to Once Again Change the Metal Content of Coins
By Robert Wenzel
Economic Policy Journal

*** begin quote ***

The Mint is considering a change to the mix of metals it uses to make quarters, dimes and nickels, because of the climbing cost of production of the coins. reports WSJ.

It now costs 1.8 cents to make a penny and 9.4 cents to make a nickel, costing the federal government about $104.5 million last year.

I fully expect that in the next bout of accelerating price inflation that the value of the metal content of current nickels will soar. Thus, nickels are a great no downside investment. POLITICAL: Kaine says “Our goal of making sure that instability in Afghanistan”

Tuesday, January 28, 2014

Mr. Ferdinand Reinke
1641 International Dr Unit 414
McLean, VA 22102-4831

Dear Mr. Reinke:

Thank you for contacting me about our troops serving in Afghanistan. I appreciate hearing from you.

Over a decade ago, the United States overthrew the Afghan Taliban that was providing a safe haven for Al Qaeda – the terrorist organization that attacked our country on September 11, 2001. Since then, we have decimated core Al Qaeda and its affiliates, and paved the way for the Afghans to establish democratic institutions, take control of their own security, and join us as partners in the fight against extremism. With our main mission in Afghanistan – destroying Al Qaeda – nearly complete, I support bringing our troops home as quickly as we can, consistent with our goal of making sure that instability in Afghanistan poses no danger to American interests.

Throughout my years in public service, I have witnessed first-hand the extraordinary challenges faced by our troops and their families. In 2006, I had the pleasure of visiting members of the Virginia National Guard stationed in Afghanistan who faced tremendous threats to their personal safety as they fought for their country. Throughout our Commonwealth, I have talked with military families who have endured the pain of lengthy separation from their loved ones when they are deployed overseas.

When I was Governor of Virginia, I signed the Military Relief Act to assist military families that encountered urgent needs for basic living expenses. In addition, I signed the 5-Star Statement of Support to confirm that we would assist state employees who served in the Virginia National Guard and Reserve.

As a member of the Senate Armed Services and Foreign Relations Committees, I will continue to be a strong advocate for our troops who serve abroad – before they deploy and after they return home. We must support their well-being to show our gratitude for the incredible sacrifices they endure for us all.

Thank you once again for contacting me.

Sincerely,

Signature

Tim Kaine

LIBERTY: Rights are not “Mother may I?”

http://www.shtfplan.com/headline-news/why-i-cannot-support-concealed-carry-weapons-permits-and-why-you-shouldnt-either_01162014

JWR’s Comments: I agree wholeheartedly. I’ve said it here a couple of times, but it bears repeating: Whenever someone must buy a license or pay a fee to exercise a right, then it is something less than a right. It is in fact a mere privilege, subject to the whim of petty bureaucrats. Fundamental rights are not abstract tokens that are given or sold by other men. They are in fact primary liberties bestowed upon us by God, our maker. Rights are not substantially secured by asking, “Mother may I?” of any government agency. Rights are more properly demanded or boldly seized and then conspicuously exercised regularly. This secures the liberties that have legitimately belonged to us since birth. If need be, lost rights can and must be restored through proscriptive use. If you live in a land where your rights have been marginalized into privileges, then it is either time to change your government, or to change your address. Much like a muscle that atrophies with disuse, any right that goes unexercised for many years devolves into a privilege, and eventually can even be redefined as a crime.

*** end quote ***

I agree.

While open resistance to the Gooferment is a terrible mismatch.

But subtle non-cooperation, passive resistance, “sugar in the gas” approach is what we have available to us now.

Clog the system.

Don’t cooperate willingly. Don’t ever consent. And, don’t ever lose heart that liberty will will out.

The Gooferment can not control 300 million Americans.

SERVICE: Google’s not infallable

Saturday, January 25, 2014

Official Google Blog
Today’s outage for several Google services
Posted: 24 Jan 2014 04:47 PM PST
Earlier today, most Google users who use logged-in services like Gmail, Google+, Calendar and Documents found they were unable to access those services for approximately 25 minutes. For about 10 percent of users, the problem persisted for as much as 30 minutes longer. Whether the effect was brief or lasted the better part of an hour, please accept our apologies—we strive to make all of Google’s services available and fast for you, all the time, and we missed the mark today.

The issue has been resolved, and we’re now focused on correcting the bug that caused the outage, as well as putting more checks and monitors in place to ensure that this kind of problem doesn’t happen again. If you’re interested in the technical explanation for what occurred and how it was fixed, read on.

At 10:55 a.m. PST this morning, an internal system that generates configurations—essentially, information that tells other systems how to behave—encountered a software bug and generated an incorrect configuration. The incorrect configuration was sent to live services over the next 15 minutes, caused users’ requests for their data to be ignored, and those services, in turn, generated errors. Users began seeing these errors on affected services at 11:02 a.m., and at that time our internal monitoring alerted Google’s Site Reliability Team. Engineers were still debugging 12 minutes later when the same system, having automatically cleared the original error, generated a new correct configuration at 11:14 a.m. and began sending it; errors subsided rapidly starting at this time. By 11:30 a.m. the correct configuration was live everywhere and almost all users’ service was restored.

With services once again working normally, our work is now focused on (a) removing the source of failure that caused today’s outage, and (b) speeding up recovery when a problem does occur. We’ll be taking the following steps in the next few days:
1. Correcting the bug in the configuration generator to prevent recurrence, and auditing all other critical configuration generation systems to ensure they do not contain a similar bug.
2. Adding additional input validation checks for configurations, so that a bad configuration generated in the future will not result in service disruption.
3. Adding additional targeted monitoring to more quickly detect and diagnose the cause of service failure.

WND EXCLUSIVE
SHOCKING EVIDENCE HITLER ESCAPED GERMANY
Newly declassified FBI, U.S. intel files raise startling questions
Published: 01/05/2014 at 5:22 PM

*** begin quote ***

WASHINGTON – Everyone knows Adolf Hitler committed suicide by gunshot in his underground bunker on April 30, 1945.

At least, that has been the conventional wisdom.

Now comes WND senior staff reporter Jerome R. Corsi’s new book, “Hunting Hitler: New Scientific Evidence That Hitler Escaped Germany.”

Examining declassified FBI and U.S. military intelligence files, Corsi makes a compelling case that U.S. investigators suspected from the beginning Hitler had escaped. For political purposes, the evidence indicates, they were willing to go along with the cover story that in the final days of World War II, Hitler married his mistress, Eva Braun, and the two took their lives in a joint-suicide ritual just before the Soviet army entered Berlin.

*** and ***

Corsi brings to light many troubling questions, including:

* Why were the Americans unable to obtain physical evidence of Hitler’s remains after the Russians absconded with his body?

* Why did both Stalin and Eisenhower doubt Hitler’s demise?

* Why did nobody in Hitler’s bunker hear any shots fired?

* Did U.S. intelligence agents in Europe, including the OSS and Allen Dulles (who later headed the CIA under President Eisenhower), aid Hitler’s escape, as they did with so many other Nazis?

* Argentinean media reported Hitler arrived in the country and it continued to report his presence. Why have the findings not made it to the US?

Corsi relies on autopsy reports, interrogation transcripts, documents from Soviet archives, CIA reports, extensive research in the National Archives and Records Administration in Washington, D.C., and in College Park, Md., and more to back up his case.

*** end quote ***

Does anyone trust the politicians and bureaucrats in the Gooferment’s intelligence agencies to be truthful?

This has been rumored for awhile. I remember relatives talking about it. (I am of German ancestry.)

So how does it come about that Corsi keeps finding these type of stories?

How can one bureaucrat “dictate” “bans”?

And the Sheeple just go along.

Wait until something they want to do is “banned”.

How does that poem go: “First they came for …”?

“America isn’t easy. America is advanced citizenship. You gotta want it bad, ’cause it’s gonna put up a fight. It’s gonna say “You want free speech? Let’s see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who’s standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country can’t just be a flag; the symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then, you can stand up and sing about the “land of the free”.” — President Andrew Shepherd played by Michael Douglas in “The American President” (1995)

Sorry, but the Gooferment doesn’t have “power”. It only has the illusion of our consent.

I do not “consent”. And, while I alone may be too weak to stop them, when The Sheeple awake, bring on the guilotine.

Texas singer and songwriter Steven Fromholz – named the state’s poet laureate in 2007 – died in a freak hunting accident on a ranch near his home, reports said Monday.

The Dallas Morning News reported that Fromholz was shot Sunday at the Flying B Ranch and later died at a hospital in El Dorado, about 40 miles south of San Angelo. He was 68.

Chief sheriff’s Deputy George Ariste told the News that Fromholz and a girlfriend were going to hunt feral hogs when the accident occurred. Ariste said the singer grabbed the handle of a case that was holding a rifle. The case was unzipped at the bottom, and the gun hit the ground and discharged.

Who cases a loaded gun?

Means to me that there was round in barrel?

What about the safeties?

Someone was negligent!

What happened to “treat every gun as if it was loaded”?
