 TINFOILHAT: “Fake news” Rathergate

Monday, October 22, 2018

*** begin quote ***

Case Study 1: Rathergate

My first case study is the episode known as Rathergate. It represents one of the great journalistic frauds of our time. It is a case study in the fabrication of fake news and partisan bias. The Rathergate scandal erupted from a 60 Minutes Wednesday segment rushed to air on the evening of September 8, 2004, in time to influence the approaching presidential election pitting George W. Bush against John Kerry, as it was clearly intended to do. The segment consisted of two parts that didn’t quite fit together except in their antipathy to Bush.

In the first part, based on an interview with the vice chairman of Kerry’s national finance committee, Rather essentially claimed that political influence had been brought to bear to secure Bush’s admission to the Texas Air National Guard as an interceptor jet pilot in 1968. In the second part, based on documents supposedly from the “personal file” of Bush’s commanding officer, Rather reported that Bush had defied an order to take a physical necessary to maintain his flight status and, among other things, thus failed to discharge his military obligations. The segment was produced and written by Mary Mapes.

In researching the story, Mapes had interviewed witnesses with firsthand knowledge of the Texas Air National Guard’s personnel needs. She was told that they needed pilots at the time and that no influence would have been necessary to secure Bush’s admission. The documents on which Rather based the second segment proved to be fabricated on Microsoft Word in the computer era, not typewritten in the early 1970s by Bush’s commanding officer or anyone else. The content and format of the documents also betrayed their fabrication. The story began to fall apart within a few hours of its broadcast. On September 20, 12 days after the broadcast, Rather extended an apology “personally and directly” to viewers for his inability to authenticate the documents.

To investigate what happened, CBS commissioned a panel chaired by former attorney general Richard Thornburgh and former Associated Press president Lou Boccardi. Released in January 2005, the report provides evidence proving beyond a reasonable doubt that the entire segment was false and/or fraudulent from beginning to end.

Mapes was promptly fired as were three other executives with responsibility for the story. Rather stepped down from the CBS Evening News in March 2005 and was let go from the network the following year.Writing about the 60 Minutes segment on the morning after the broadcast on Power Line, I posted a brief item linking to the 60 Minutes story and the PDF copies of the documents that CBS had made available with the online version of the story. Thinking there might be something more to be said about it than what 60 Minutes had reported, I called my post “The 61st Minute” and published it on Power Line at 7:51 a.m.

Together with my colleague John Hinderaker, I updated the post with additional information provided by readers and fellow bloggers through the early afternoon. By noon, anyone following along online could see that the 60 Minutes segment had been based on fabricated documents and falsehoods. The 60 Minutes segment, reported with great earnestness by Rather, had been produced by knaves or fools, or both.

Rather and Mapes nevertheless persuaded CBS News to stick with the story for nearly two weeks before Rather rendered his on-air apology. In his 2012 memoir Rather Outspoken — that’s the title he gave it; it should have been Rather Full of It — Rather reveals that he didn’t mean it. Both he and Mapes stand behind the story and the authenticity of the documents.

Mapes too wrote a memoir standing by the story (Truth and Duty, published in late 2005). In 2015 Hollywood made a film out of Mapes’s memoir — starring Robert Redford as Rather and Cate Blanchett as Mapes. They called the film Truth, purporting to tell the Rathergate story from the inside.

Despite Mapes’s responsibility for perpetrating a shocking journalistic fraud, the film portrays Mapes as a heroic figure. Mapes not only gets a stellar actress to play her, she is portrayed as a martyr to the First Amendment and a victim of corporate cowardice. By contrast, the film portrays the attorneys who supported the work of Thornburg and Boccardi as cartoon villains. The events depicted in the film had happened only 10 years before, but the ignorance of the reviewers who took the film at face value demonstrated that the truth behind Truth was as obscure as ancient Greek history.

When President Trump refers to fake news, he has in mind something like the cast of characters and the insane bias that brought us Rathergate.

NEWJERSEY: New Jersey Fails To Strike Down Hair-Braiding Licensing Requirements

Sunday, October 21, 2018

Perhaps, Nzali’s stance continues to be ignored or downplayed because of the stronger, much more powerful beauty lobby. But while regulators claim that the field must be under scrutiny because of the chemicals used in their products, African hair-braiding is also called natural braiding precisely because they use no chemicals. In addition, economists explain that even if there is a legitimate risk, the market is better at regulating than the government.Associate professor of economics at Saint Francis University Edward Timmons thinks that especially when it comes to hair braiding, the market has the best solution for both customers and entrepreneurs.

TINFOILHAT: Did Saudis, CIA Fear Khashoggi – LewRockwell

Saturday, October 20, 2018

The macabre case of missing journalist Jamal Khashoggi raises the question: did Saudi rulers fear him revealing highly damaging information on their secret dealings? In particular, possible involvement in the 9/11 terror attacks on New York in 2001.

This does explain why the Saudis would do something so blatant.  And, explains why the Deep State is so anxious not to make a big deal about it.

My purpose in using “tin foil hat” in this blog is just to suggest the questions that no one seems to be interested in asking.

Interesting that one of the participants in this assassination just had a “traffic accident”.  Was this one like George Patton’s  — just too convenient?

Will we get any answers?  Of course, not. Does it mean that everyone should stop asking “annoying” questions?  Of course, not. When do the sheeple wake up that they are on the farm and being managed and harvested?  Of course, not.

Everything Is A Hoax
PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS • OCTOBER 5, 2018 • 1,400 WORDS

*** begin quote ***

An Israeli expert on terrorism and covert assassination procedures explains that the alleged Russian GRU attack on the Skripals with a supposedly deadly nerve agent is a completely obvious hoax to anyone who knows anything at all. https://russia-insider.com/en/skripals-are-mi6-hoax-not-worthy-ladies-detective-novels-israeli-expert-demolishes-uk-case/ri24912

The official story, says the expert, is “stupidity on stupidity.”

I agree with him.

The question is: Why did the British government think that they could get away with such an obvious hoax? The answer is that the people in Western countries don’t know anything about anything. They live in a world in which their reality is a product of the propaganda fed to them by “news organizations” and Hollywood movies. They only receive controlled explanations. Therefore, they know nothing about how anything really functions. Read the account by the Israeli expert to understand the vast difference between the British government’s hoax and the reality of how an assassination is conducted.

*** and ***

Today polls indicate that a majority of people do not believe the official 9/11 propaganda any more than they believe the Warren Commission Report on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, the alleged Gulf of Tonkin attack, or the report from Admiral McCain (father of John) erasing Israel’s responsibility for the destruction of the USS Liberty and its crew during LBJ’s administration, or that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, or Iran had nukes, or the many lies about about Syria, Libya’s Gaddafi, or Somalia, or Yemen, or the “Russian invasion of Georgia,” the “Russian invasion of Ukraine.” But at each time the idiot population, no matter how many times they had learned that the governments lied to them initially believed the next lie, thereby permitting the lie to become fact. Thus, the idiot Western populations created their own world of controlled explanations.

POLITICAL: Kavanaugh confirmed, ready for swearing-in

# – # – # – # – #

Interesting that the D’s in their attempt to play politics by delaying the introduction of Ms. Ford’s allegation, in order to delay the confirmation until after the midterm elections, may have assured Kavanaugh’s confirmation.  The smell of “politics” tainted the process from the start.  In addition to Ms. Ford’s social media being “sanitized” and her “tear stained” testimony belied what may have been a legitimate concern. Minus these actions and given enough time for the unlikeable Kavanaugh story of “choir boy” character and his “nasty side” coming out with the Committee, the whole matter would have exploded in the public’s mind to generate a real groundswell of opposition.

Instead the D’s “smelled up the joint” so the reality didn’t come out.

As usual, when the politicians and bureaucrats try and “fix” something, it comes back to bite them.  (Like the R’s preventing another FDR, that resulting in Ike being a lame duck. Or the D’s wasting the legacy of FDR by not doing anything to really help minorities. And, on and on.)

have to see how it all works out.

  • Ahmed Jibril was founder and commander of Palestinian group that did bombing
  • Bomb maker Marwan Khreesat built the device hidden in radio-cassette player

By DOUGLAS BOYD FOR THE MAIL ON SUNDAY

PUBLISHED: 17:11 EDT, 29 September 2018 | UPDATED: 20:34 EDT, 29 September 2018

*** begin quote ***

It is nothing short of a scandal.

There was, of course, a fall guy. Eleven years after the atrocity, a 47-year-old Libyan Arab Airlines security officer called Abdelbaset al-Megrahi was convicted on a tissue of lies which centred on the evidence of a Maltese shopkeeper who claimed to remember him buying clothes similar to those that may have been in the suitcase with the bomb that would rip through the fuselage.

A low-level Libyan CIA ‘asset’ called Abdul Majid Giaka said he recalled seeing al-Megrahi collect a brown Samsonite suitcase from the Arrivals carousel in Malta’s Luqa airport on December 20, 1988. On the following morning, he alleged, the unaccompanied suitcase was loaded on to a flight to Frankfurt, from where it would be transferred to London on a Pan Am ‘feeder flight’ and loaded aboard Flight 103 – before then exploding.

A further 11 years later, al-Megrahi was sentenced to life imprisonment at an extraordinary trial held in a disused American air base near Utrecht, Holland.

After years investigating the Lockerbie disaster and its background, I have found that little of the evidence against him can be taken at face value. Instead, a very different story has emerged from the morass of lies, one that should have been apparent from the very start.

It is a story of incompetence, vengeance, political expediency and then a cover-up orchestrated from the very highest levels in London and in Washington – where the real bomber is said to live today, under the cover of an American witness protection scheme.

*** end quote ***

And the British and American Gooferments are up to their elbows in deceit.

Why should we ever trust anything the politicians and bureaucrats say?

LIBERTY: Kavanaugh fight shows us that Washington is sick. Very sick. SO, REPEAL the 17th Amendment

Sunday, September 30, 2018

The collision of Kavanaugh’s nomination with the #MeToo movement — a demand for justice for victims of sexual assault — has paralyzed Washington and turned the once-solemn Supreme Court confirmation process into a theater of human suffering. It is the twisted result, one chief of staff to a Democratic senator said, of the two parties breaking their own system in a tit-for-tat brawl over nominations that led Democrats to end filibusters on lower-court judges and Cabinet nominees and Republicans to respond by doing the same for the high court.

NEWJERSEY: NJ Judge Figures Movie Theater Security Guards Don’t Need Guns

Thursday, September 27, 2018

Let’s be frank here. If a security guard who deals with protecting large cash transfers supposedly lacks a “justifiable need” to carry a gun, the rank and file individual is slap out of luck. There’s absolutely no way you’re getting a permit unless you have a documented death threat against you.Even then, though, I wouldn’t hold your breath. This really highlights the problems you see with states that have added a “need” component to its carry process. It becomes harder and harder to demonstrate a need in the minds of people who are generally well protected themselves. They can’t fathom why you would need to protect your life in an instant, so they assume the police will do so.

Let’s face it; there is no Second Amendment in the Pepuls Republik of Nu Jerzee.

I don’t understand why it’s up to gun owners to defend the Constitution?

Pure and simple, after “gun control” comes genocide.

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? . . .” — Alexander Solzhenitsyn

RANT: The “social media” ARE utter frauds, regressive cheats, and petty censors

Tuesday, September 25, 2018

Letter from L. Neil Smith
Dear Ken,

Twitter, it says here, has kicked the amazing actor and articulate political pundit James Woods off its vaunted platform for no other reason than that he writes truths that make the left all butt-squirmy. To me, this is the absolute last straw. These “social media” things originally presented themselves as futuristic channels of free and open communication. They are, instead, utter frauds, regressive cheats, and petty censors, stuck in the discredited and obsolete collectivist past, determined to drag everybody else back there with them.

They are also corporations, and, as such, fully as subject Bill of Rights limitations as any other tentacle of the government.

As a lifelong libertarian thinker and writer, I hate, loathe, and despise regulation of any kind. But I hate this elementary school neo-puritanism even worse. I hate some snotty asshole snatching my mail out of my mailbox. I want to hear what James Woods has to say, and I don’t buy a single syllable of the pseudo-tech bullshit they spew as an excuse for trying to control people’s lives.

I have fought censorship all my life. If Twitter fails to restore Woods’ account and never bothers him or anybody like him—Alex Jones, for example—ever again, I will begin to advocate publicly that it—and other enterprises like Facebook, Youtube, and Google itself be seized by Federal Marshals and turned over to the US Postal System. At least they pretended to mind their own damned business, and you could be locked up for messing with a mailbox.

Please pass it on.

NEWJERSEY: Murray Sabrin for Senate

Friday, September 21, 2018

2018-Sep-21

10 Reasons to Support Murray Sabrin for Senate

1. Dr. Sabrin wants tax credits for charities. Unlike the federal government, charities are more effective at helping those less fortunate in our communities.

2. Dr. Sabrin has an incredible personal story. He is an immigrant and the son of Holocaust survivors. His father was a WWII hero, a battalion commander in Poland fighting the Nazis for five years.

3. Dr. Sabrin opposes all corporate bailouts. Cronyism isn’t part of the free market; we need an economy that works for everyone not just the insiders on Wall Street. He is the only candidate who wants to audit the Federal Reserve.

4. Dr. Sabrin is the only candidate who wants to restore the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Have the other candidates even read the Constitution?

5. Dr. Sabrin is not a politician. Dr. Sabrin is a professor of finance at Ramapo College and has dedicated his life to education.

6. The federal government is now over $21 trillion in debt. Dr. Sabrin wants to end the welfare-warfare state, balance the budget and cut federal spending so we can cut taxes responsibly,

7. Dr. Sabrin cares about the environment. History shows countries with the largest, most unlimited governments like Russia and China also have the most pollution because they don’t protect private property.

8. Murray has been calling for the end of cannabis prohibition for more than 20 years. He wants to finally stop wasting money on putting non-violent offenders in prison.

9. Both Democrats and Republicans have governed America for the past 160 years. We need new thinking in the U.S. Senate – not “group think” that has created the problems we are facing today.

10. Exit polling data proves Libertarians attract as many disenfranchised Democrats as they do Republicans. Libertarians want freedom for all people, not just the politically well connected, and Dr. Sabrin supports policies that protect all human life.

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Government Crowd Out in Transportation | Cato @ Liberty

Saturday, September 15, 2018

The Urban Mass Transportation Act of 1964 (later redesignated the Federal Transit Act) provided loans and grants for transit capital acquisition, construction, and planning activities.… Notably, only public entities could apply for the federal grants. Given the availability of federal aid, many cities, states, and counties purchased or otherwise took over their local rail and bus systems. Thus by the 1970s, a largely new model of transit provision—public ownership—had become increasingly prevalent in the United States. Many jurisdictions consolidated the operations of smaller private and public systems under the auspices of regional transit authorities. A few states, such as Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Jersey, formed statewide transit agencies.

TINFOILHAT: Need an honest inquiry into 9/11

9/11 Was an Israeli Job
How America was neoconned into World War IV
LAURENT GUYÉNOT • SEPTEMBER 10, 2018 • 8,500 WORDS • 49 COMMENTS • REPLY
 RSS

*** begin quote ***

Thanks to courageous investigators, many anomalies in the official explanation of the events of 9/11 were posted on the Internet in the following months, providing evidence that this was a false flag operation, and that Osama bin Laden was innocent, as he repeatedly declared in the Afghan and Pakistani press and on Al Jazeera.[1] The proofs of this appalling fraud have been accumulating ever since, and are now accessible to anyone willing to spend a few hours of research on the Web. (Although, while preparing this article, I noticed that Google is now making access to that research more difficult than it was five years ago, artificially prioritizing anti-conspiracy sites.)

For example, members of Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth have demonstrated that it was impossible for plane crashes and jet fuel fires to trigger the collapse of the Twin Towers. Even Donald Trump understood this. In fact, speaking of “collapse” is perhaps misleading: the towers literally exploded, pulverizing concrete and projecting pieces of steel beams weighing several hundred tons hundreds of meters laterally at high speeds. The pyroclastic dust that immediately flooded through the streets, not unlike the dust from a volcano, indicates a high temperature mixture of hot gasses and relatively dense solid particles, an impossible phenomenon in a simple collapse. It is also impossible that WTC7, another skyscraper (47 stories), which had not been hit by a plane, collapsed into its own footprint at near free-fall speed, unless by “controlled demolition.”

Testimonies of firefighters recorded shortly after the events describe sequences of explosions just before the “collapse”, well below the plane impact. The presence of molten metal in the wreckage up to three weeks after the attack is inexplicable except by the presence of incompletely burned explosives. Firefighter Philip Ruvolo testified before Étienne Sauret’s camera for his film Collateral Damages (2011): “You’d get down below and you’d see molten steel—molten steel running down the channelways, like you were in a foundry—like lava.”

Aviation professionals have also reported impossibilities in the behavior of the planes. The charted speeds of the two aircraft hitting the Twin Towers, 443 mph and 542 mph, exclude these aircraft being Boeing 767s, because these speeds are virtually impossible near ground level. In the unlikely event such speeds could be attained without the aircraft falling apart, flying them accurately into the towers was mission impossible, especially by the amateur pilots blamed for the hijacking. Hosni Mubarak, a former pilot, said he could never do it. (He is not the only head of state to have voiced his doubts: Chavez and Ahmadinejad are among them.) Recall that neither of the black boxes of the jetliners was ever found, an incomprehensible situation.

And of course, there are the obvious anomalies of Shanksville and Pentagon crash sites: no plane or credible plane debris can be seen on any of the numerous photos easily available.

Inside Job or Mossad Job?

*** end quote ***

I don’t know, but like most of the tin foil hat items, there are too many questions!

It was just ALL to convenient.

For all the victims, their families, and the American People, there needs to be “answers”!

“Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Whose gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinburg? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago, and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Santiago’s death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don’t want the truth because deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand a post. Either way, I don’t give a damn what you think you are entitled to.” Colonel Jessep in A Few Good Men played by Jack Nicholson

Thursday, September 6, 2018

In the early 1900s, blue tits and robins had easy access to cream from the tops of open milk bottles left on humans’ doorsteps. After World War I, the humans began to seal the bottle tops with aluminum foil. But remarkably, by the 1950s the entire blue tit population of the United Kingdom had learned pierce the foil to reach the cream, while the robins hadn’t.The difference lay in cultural transmission: A blue tit can learn a new behavior by observing another bird performing it. Robins generally can’t do this — while an individual robin might learn to pierce the foil, it has no way to pass on this discovery to other robins. Young blue tits are reared in flocks in which they can observe one another, which is an advantage; robins are territorial and have fewer such opportunities. Unfortunately for both, the milkman is now extinct.

So what can we humans extrapolate from this?

Other than don’t become dependent on a “milkman”?

Maybe “learn from each other” and “being territorial” are contra-survival.

RANTING: “Leave no man behind”? WTH happened!

John McCain: When “Tokyo Rose” Ran for President
By Ron Unz — The Unz Review — September 4, 2018

*** begin quote ***

However, those new doubts about McCain were still in my mind a few months later when I stumbled upon Sidney Schanberg’s massively documented expose about McCain’s role in the POW/MIA cover up, a vastly greater scandal. This time I was presented with a mountain of hard evidence gathered by one of America’s greatest wartime journalists, a Pulitzer Prize winning former top editor at The New York Times. In the years since then, other leading journalists have praised Schanberg’s remarkable research, now giving his conclusions the combined backing of four New York Times Pulitzer Prizes, while two former Republican Congressmen who had served on the Intelligence Committee have also strongly corroborated his account

In 1993 the front page of the New York Times broke the story that a Politburo transcript found in the Kremlin archives fully confirmed the existence of the additional POWs, and when interviewed on the PBS Newshour former National Security Advisors Henry Kissinger and Zbigniew Brzezinski admitted that the document was very likely correct and that hundreds of America’s Vietnam POWs had indeed been left behind. In my opinion, the reality of Schanberg’s POW story is now about as solidly established as anything can be that has not yet received an official blessing from the American mainstream media. And the total dishonesty of that media regarding both the POW story and McCain’s leading role in the later cover up soon made me very suspicious of all those other claims regarding John McCain’s supposedly heroic war record. Our American Pravda is simply not to be trusted on any “touchy” topics.

At every post meeting of the American Legion across the nation, the POWs & MIAs are remembered.

It was unspoken that McCain had prevented their return.

He was a politician — nothing more, nothing less.

We are taught to “never speak ill of the dead”!

“Before you speak ask yourself if what you are going to say is true, is kind, is necessary, is helpful. If the answer is no, maybe what you are about to say should be left unsaid.” — Bernard Meltzer

True, ✔.  Kind, ✖. Necessary, ✔. Helpful, ✔.

It would seem needed and necessary to reaffirm the “no man left behind” policy and declassify all the documents related to it.

I plan to beat my “modest drum” to get an accounting.

Argh!

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Why An LA Musician Was Kept From Building Tiny Homes For The Homeless

Tuesday, September 4, 2018

Homelessness in Los Angeles County has been on the rise for a decade. Despite the slight decrease in 2018, the city estimates that since 2010, the number of homeless people in the region increased 52 percent.

The Gooferment can’t solve ANY problem.

In this PARTICULAR case, the Gooferment CREATES the problem with zoning, taxes, regulation, and other diktats.

Just ignore the fact that the mental institutions were closed to ‘mainstream” the mentally ill with “local neighborhood support” that was never provided because it was too expensive and NIMBY!

Then when property and rent skyrocket, the Gooferment blames the “free market”.

When individuals step up to solve problems, the Gooferment steps in to prevent it.

After all what would the politicians and bureaucrats do without the “homeless problem” to solve.

Argh!

TECHNOLOGY: Revisionist History Books banned by Amazon, by Michael Hoffman – The Unz Review

Sunday, August 26, 2018

Amazon’s monopoly over the sale of books is so extensive that to be banned by Amazon is, in many cases, tantamount to a death sentence for a book. The public ought to know of the shameful tactics of the hypocrites who are so fearful of the radical scholarship for which they have no credible answer, that they must ban the books that contain irrefutable challenges to their sacred dogmas.

Do we want Amazon as the arbiter of what books are “published”?

NO!

INTERESTING: Johnny Appleseed was a businessman

GEEK TRIVIA
Johnny Appleseed’s Goal In Planting Apple Trees Was To?

*** begin quote ***

One thing we’re willing to bet on, however, is that when you learned about Johnny Appleseed—a real historical figure actually named John Chapman—what you didn’t learn at the tender age of, say, 7, was that old Johnny was mad planting nurseries of trees across the land to be used for creating orchards of apples to make hard cider. If you’re surprised by that, we don’t blame you. The modern perception of John Chapman is of a fairy-tale like folklore hero who traipsed across the American landscape planting apple trees like a Disney princess spreading good will. In reality, Chapman was a practical man doing the most practical thing to feed early American’s ravenous appetite for hard cider—a drink that was, by far and away, one of the most popular beverages this side of the Atlantic ocean throughout the 1800s. People on the frontiers, where drinking water was often suspect, consumed an average of 11 ounces of hard cider per day.

I didn’t know that.   Amazing capitalism in disguise until the “book burners” of the “temperance movement” destroyed it.  Argh!
