My own fault. I had it in my left pant’s pocket and it slipped out when I was sitting in a cab.

Argh!

The driver might not even see it. Then when he does, how would he know who’s it was.

I should have remembered the cab number.

I should have taken a receipt.

I should have …

Argh!

I was told call the licensing authority; no phone number.

RANT: Yet Another Tin Foil Hat Question

Initial reports said there were multiple shooters. If that was the case, the scenario is much more plausible. If multiple shooters had opened fire from various vantage points–especially if they had rifles–it would have made unarmed resistance extremely difficult. That scenario would make sense. The “one shooter with two handguns” explanation makes no sense.

RANT: The gooferment IS the problem

Sunday, November 22, 2009

“Advocates of government control [of health care and insurance] want you to believe that the serious shortcomings of our medical and insurance system are failures of the free market. But that’s John Stosselimpossible because our market is not free. Each state operates a cozy medical and insurance cartel that restricts competition through licensing and keeps prices higher than they would be in a genuine free market. But the planners won’t talk about that. After all, if government is the problem in the first place, how can they justify a government takeover?”

The $100 Million Health Care Vote?

November 19, 2009 3:03 PM

*** begin quote ***

Karl 2 ABC News’ Jonathan Karl reports:

What does it take to get a wavering senator to vote for health care reform?

Here’s a case study.

On page 432 of the Reid bill, there is a section increasing federal Medicaid subsidies for “certain states recovering from a major disaster.”

The section spends two pages defining which “states” would qualify, saying, among other things, that it would be states that “during the preceding 7 fiscal years” have been declared a “major disaster area.”

I am told the section applies to exactly one state: Louisiana, the home of moderate Democrat Mary Landrieu, who has been playing hard to get on the health care bill.

In other words, the bill spends two pages describing would could be written with a single world: Louisiana. (This may also help explain why the bill is long.)

Senator Harry Reid, who drafted the bill, cannot pass it without the support of Louisiana’s Mary Landrieu.

How much does it cost? According to the Congressional Budget Office: $100 million.

Disgusting. Is anyone going to stop this?

Grassroots: Blow up the Senate (not literally)

Grassroots — on the undemocratic nature of the U.S. Senate — is on The Progressive Populist Web site.

*** begin quote ***

It’s time to dismantle the United States Senate and replace it with a more democratic institution.

*** end quote ***

Democracy is mob rule and the anathema to the concept of the republic.

The change from the States selecting Senators allowed the Federal Gooferment to create all sorts of unfunded mandates. We need the tempering of the passions of the day.

You may just get your wish of a more “democratic” state. When secession makes all the states go in their own direction, then you can run your state anyway you want. But, you won’t have the big federal gooferment to loot the productive class for your schemes. You won’t even have the rich to loot in your own state as even more producers vote with their feet.

Freedom and liberty is man’s natural state, because that’s the Plan. No one can drive a man harder than he can himself.

You’ll be like the aristocrats of France that can’t see the revolution coming.

The Dead Old White Guys were pretty smart, but they knew the problems of “democracy”. Too bad we can’t see as well.

BlueHippo Scam Collected $15M, Only Shipped One PC

from Slashdot by Soulskill

An anonymous reader writes “Turns out that those BlueHippo commercials advertising financing for computers and other electronics for anybody, regardless of credit, were way more sleazy than you thought. The FTC is bringing this fraud down, but not too soon. ‘According to the FTC, the company’s brazen business model continued without interruption after the 2008 settlement. “In fact, in the year following entry of this Court’s Stipulated Final Judgment and Order for a Permanent Injunction, BlueHippo financed — at most — a single computer to the over 35,000 consumers who placed orders for computers that could be financed during the period,’ the FTC told a court (PDF) yesterday. In the meantime, the company took in a cool $15 million in payments from consumers, who don’t appear to have received anything in return.'”

Why am I not surprised? And, how long did it take to get this fraud shutdown by the “regulators”? And who’s going to jail for the 15M$ stolen from poor people? After all, who has “regardless of credit”. And, the hardware they pictured looked obsolete to me.

There was little government intervention, at least by today’s standards, and the economy recovered naturally; and by early 1922, it had fully recovered and the nation was off to the Roaring Twenties.

Look at the VA (e.g., “My doc is trying to kill me”). Look at the Indian Health System (e.g., “Don’t get sick after June”). Look at Medicare (e.g., “If medicare denies your claim [for a Jazzy], we give it to you for free!”).

And, when the gooferment bureaucrat decides that you can’t get your hair plug replacement therapy, or that needed “experimental” procedure, to whom are you going to appeal? Your local newspaperman who urged this on you? Your Congressperson?

No! The gooferment is exceeding its role. Want single payer? Move to any of the lovely jurisdictions that have it: Canada, England, Sweden.

That is certainly true of the private for profit health insurance industry.

What the hell is some poor working stiff in West Virginia supposed to do against giant coal mining corporations that are polluting the water, soil and air of their neighborhoods? Oh yeah, they have the option to move from their homes where they may have roots going back generations. We have no choice about how the energy is transmitted to our abodes. The only way to deal with these great polluters is through the power of the government or the legislature. We need a trust busting Theodore Roosevelt and an army of Upton Sinclairs to take on all these giant corporations which are raping the environment and our wallets.    OK, let’s take PSEG. Who gave them a monopoly? The Gooferment. So aim your ire at the “state”! That’s why you don’t have a choice.

Even when given a monopoly, that still doesn’t completely insulate the monopoly service provider. Comcast was the monopoly. Then, came DirectTv. Then, Dish. Then, Verizon FIOS.

   >In many cases, one or two companies have a monopoly of a certain type of business or

   > there is often price fixing and collusion between corporations.

There is NO monopoly without GOOFERMENT. Competition disolves “natural monopolies” in a few years. Everyone always cites the Rockyfeller oil monopoly which lasted (I think) THREE years before competitors came in and took percentages.

   >That is certainly true of the private for profit health insurance industry.

There is NO such industry. The Federal and State Gooferments regulate EVERYTHING about healthcare. AND, those companies LOVE it. It prevents competition. “Regulatory capture”, restriction on suuply, mandated coverages just make it expensive.

   >What the hell is some poor working stiff in West Virginia supposed to do against giant coal

   >mining corporations that are polluting the water, soil and air of their neighborhoods?

Where’s the Federal and State EPA that are supposed to be preventing that?!? In fact, the gooferment is the biggest polluter. (Check some of the DOD and DOE sites.)

If you had a fair judicial system, then they’d have a recourse. Read Healing Our World by Dr. Mary Ruwart. http://www.ruwart.com/Healing/chap14.html

   >Corporate America has too much power, they are unelected but they control the media

It’s called Facism. Where the State and Business become “bedfellows”.

   >We need strong unions to give workers a voice and to level the playing field.

Yeah, right. Like the UAW, Teachers Union, or SCIU are weak. Please, don’t make me laugh. They are AS corrupt as the politicians.

So who’s going to save you now?

The answer is we have to rescue ourselves. It’s our thinking that needs to change. We have to demand freedom and liberty. We can start by voting out EVERY incumbent. Call it voter imposed term limits. Demand TRUE deregulation. No licenses, no permits, no gooferment oversight. Liberty will protect us.
