U.S. Seeks Expanded Power to Seize Firms
Goal Is to Limit Risk to Broader Economy

The Obama administration is considering asking Congress to give the Treasury secretary unprecedented powers to initiate the seizure of non-bank financial companies, such as large insurers, investment firms and hedge funds, whose collapse would damage the broader economy, according to an administration document.

The government at present has the authority to seize only banks.

Giving the Treasury secretary authority over a broader range of companies would mark a significant shift from the existing model of financial regulation, which relies on independent agencies that are shielded from the political process. The Treasury secretary, a member of the president’s Cabinet, would exercise the new powers in consultation with the White House, the Federal Reserve and other regulators, according to the document.

Former West Wing Actress Allison Janney Cheers Obama, Stumps for Abortion

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — Actress Allison Janney, best known for her role in the television drama “West Wing,” is stumping for the pro-abortion group Emily’s List. In a fundraising email for the political group, Janney applauds the pro-abortion record of President Barack Obama and asks for donations to support his efforts.

“During the dark days of the last administration, millions of Americans watched Martin Sheen play an intelligent, compassionate president on The West Wing,” Janney says in the email LifeNews.com received. “Isn’t it exciting to have the real thing in Barack Obama?”

Despite his decisions to force taxpayers to pay for promoting and performing abortions in other nations and embryonic stem cell research, Janney claims, “President Obama has set us on a course to move our country in a more hopeful, positive direction.”

It’s a real shame. “Liberal” Hollywood types confuse play acting for the real thing.

I’m saddened. She’s a good actress. And, she certainly has the right to speak freely. I just wish she had the same degree of understanding of a very complex issue.

(1) I object to paying for that which I find morally reprehensible. I’m force to fund Obama’s abortion plans.

(2) It’s genocide! Death by government. We’re strangling the life out of the future. I’ve made the argument before what if we have aborted the cure for cancer, the next Steven Hawking, or the future Obama?

(3) Hollywood success doesn’t translate into policy expertise or even common sense. In this case, she equates “West Wing” with the new tyranny in the White House.

(4) Abortion is a policy, social, and personal DISASTER on so many levels. Be best if the gooferment just got out of the debate. And, let the people involved sort it out. Legislating it as a right is just morally wrong!

RANT: Obama’s Special Olympics gaffe

Obama’s Special Olympics gaffe

*** begin quote ***

The truth is that Barack Obama is not cool or hip. Often he doesn’t even seem very bright. He is unable to stand on his own two feet when asked a direct question. Even with his trusted Teleprompter he cannot avoid embarrassment, as the Prime Minister of Ireland saw first-hand earlier this week. He gave the back of his hand to Great Britain with his stupid, ill-chosen gifts to their prime minister — not to mention the abrupt ejection of the bust of Winston Churchill from the Oval Office. He accompanies self-deprecation with insulting retarded children or former First Ladies.

*** end quote ***

I waited to write this post until I had time to reflect on the incident. What I saw. How I felt. And, was it a “big deal”.

When I heard O was heading to Leno, my first thought was that he was trying to distract from what he was doing — making Socialism palatable to the proletariat.

Did it work?

Or, did it give us a further insight into the legislator who votes “present”.

Leno cracked him with the comment about the financial crisis being Timmy’s problem.

And again, with taxing the AIG bonus babies 90%, that the government could do it to any one.

Insightful.

Funny, but Leno showed the emperor’s new clothes.

And, of course, the pièce de résistance, “Special Olympics”.

What an A double Q hole!

Ever seen these “forever children” struggle to dribble a basketball as I’ve seen at many Rutgers women’s half times, or some to even help themselves?

A President. An athlete. A “man”. Demeaning these children. He may have been a high school bball player, but he learned little.

I firmly believe that the Creator, the Universe, or God, gives us these as examples of how blessed we are. That no matter how self-centered one is, seeing one of these struggling heroes, is a lesson in humility.

No, that throw away remark was an insight into the character of the man.

And, he was lacking.

RANT: 90% taxes on employee bonuses

Thursday, March 19, 2009

March 19, 2009

The House voted 328-93 to approve a bill imposing 90% taxes on employee bonuses from firms bailed out by taxpayers.

The bill would tax bonuses paid by firms that received more than $5 billion from the TARP. The Senate is working on its own plan to try to recoup bonuses.

The House bill is a response to the furor over millions in retention bonuses paid by AIG.

Can anyone say “Bill of Attainder”?

If these bozos would actually read what they vote on, then they wouldn’t have to have this pretend outrage!

Don’t forget all the Hollywood, Education, and Sports types?

Obama In St Patrick’s Day Teleprompt Blunder
12:26pm UK, Wednesday March 18, 2009

*** begin quote ***

A teleprompt blunder has led to Barack Obama thanking himself in a speech at the White House in a St Patrick’s Day celebration.

*** end quote ***

Oh, big joke!

Imagine if George Bush had done the same thing?

And, the “teleprompter president”?

It’s not surprising. It’s just another version of an “empty suit”.

We should be used to it now.

And, when does a sitting President, take time from the People’s business, to appear on Leno?

Argh!

How far have we fallen?

He started with “hope and change” and has shrunk to the tired old “liberal” socialist agenda and diminished the most powerful office on the globe to a laughing stock!

Double argh!

“With the White House claiming national security grounds for failing to release ACTA related information, including negotiating documents and even the list of participants, the spotlight is now on just who does have access. Obama to Test Fundraising Skills Amid ‘Donor Fatigue,’ Crisis
By Hans Nichols and Jonathan D. Salant

*** begin quote ***

March 16 (Bloomberg) — President Barack Obama will headline the first fundraiser of his presidency this month, appealing to donors large and small even as the economy struggles through the worst recession in generations.

Obama’s appearance at the Democratic National Committee’s March 25 event at the Warner Theatre in Washington, with tickets ranging from $100 to $2,500 per person, will be an early test of his ability to keep up the record-breaking fundraising he achieved during the campaign.

What About the Families?

*** begin quote ***

Even by Washington standards, there’s something particularly feckless about the change in media coverage rules for the homecoming of our fallen troops.

Earlier this week, Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced that the press will be allowed to cover the return of their remains to Dover AFB, Delaware, but only on a case-by-case basis. Before being allowed to report (and photograph) the arrival of those flag-draped coffins, media outlets must gain permission from the families of slain personnel.

*** and ***

That should be the real legacy of our war dead–not some fleeting image from Dover AFB, aimed at advancing a certain point-of-view. Secretary Gates should learn to respect the wishes of most military families and the majority of those who have served in the War on Terror. As the Pentagon’s most powerful official, Dr. Gates has the obligation to disagree with his boss–when the situation warrants–and tell the media “no.”

This is one of those times.

*** end quote ***

Disgraceful!
The politicians and their stooge Gates are putting the families of the returning dead vets on the hot seat.
Just not fair! Just not proper! Just not appropriate!
Gates should revisit that BAD decision!
Argh!
