A lot of good men, and even some women, paid the ultimate price getting us to where we are now. Memorial Day remembers them.

And, that their sacrifice should not be in vane.

Sigh, sadly, I’m not so sure we appreciate it.

LIBERTY: Repeal the “Direct Election of Senators” aka Seventeenth Amendment

Speaker Pelosi’s press conference yesterday had to rank as one of the most bizarre political implosions since Richard Nixon’s infamous “I’m not a crook” press conference in April 1974.

Pelosi called the press conference to offer her fifth separate explanation for why she never knew about the application of so-called “enhanced interrogation techniques” despite the release of CIA memos and the recollection of other participants who clearly recall her being extensively briefed.

As press conferences go, it was painful to witness. Noted one observer, if Pelosi was not lying, she deserved an Academy Award for appearing as though she were. When questioned by reporters, she actually re-read her prepared statement – several times – stumbling over it as if she were cold-reading the description of an event involving someone else.

*** end quote ***

I would attribute us to the “Direct Election of Senators” Seventeenth Amendment 1913. (The same year they created the Federal Reserve!)

Before that they were responsible to the State Legislatures and much more insulated from the public pressure. And, much more dignified!

It’s time to repeal that amendment and a few others!

California’s Day of Reckoning: May 19 by Gary North

Decades ago, my friend M. Stanton Evans came up with a law, comparable to Murphy’s Law. I came across it in a delightful compilation of these laws, a book titled “The Official Rules.” It is designated as Evans’ Law of Political Perfidy. “When our friends are elected, they aren’t our friends any more.”

I like this! We have no “friends” in the halls of power. We never do it seems. Argh! I’ve formed the opinion that we have to “kill” the overreaching gooferment. No other solution can put the genie back in the bottle. No way to limit its power. No way to keep it from escaping its supposed “chains of the Constitution”. Lysander Spooner was right!

Death of a Civilization

While Western Civilization sits confused, crippled with self-doubt and guilt, the Chinese are rapidly building an energy-intensive technological civilization. They have 2,000 coal-fired power plants, and are currently constructing new ones at the rate of one a week. In China, more people believe in free-market economics than in the US. Our Asian friends are about to be nominated by history as the new torchbearers of human progress.

If past is indeed prologue, the organized, concentrated and continuous assault by a small percentage of zealots will ultimately wear down the resistance of the larger, less focused, non-committed majority.

The Constitution’s Tenth Amendment reserves that to Several States. Thus the Federal Government should have NO role in the definition of marriage.

The States really should not have any role in defining marriage either since it’s a “church” thing.

The heritage of marriage licensing is racial discrimination.

So, “marriage” should be left to the civil society; the gooferment should MYOB and butt out.

The Obama administration is weighing plans to detain some terror suspects on U.S. soil — indefinitely and without trial — as part of a plan to retool military commission trials that were conducted for prisoners held in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The proposal being floated with members of Congress is another indication of President Barack Obama’s struggles to establish his counter-terrorism policies, balancing security concerns against attempts to alter Bush-administration practices he has harshly criticized.

Another campaign issue / promise up in smoke.

Don’t real;y care about the lying.

BUT!

THe Bush Admininstration had Gitmo to keep the prisoners from getting Fifth Amendment and other rights.t us, next it

(Using my Judge Judy law degree and reading the Constitution, I think rights are inalienable regardless where on the Earth the government is operating. But my opinion matters not.)

The Obama Adminsitration seems to have a new reading of the Fifth and where it applies.

That scares me!

As Pastor Martin Niemîller taught us, next it woon’t apply to us as they herd us to the camps.

Remember my previous blogs. Just take out the first one and the they will soon run out of thugs.

Why is the party in trouble? Simple. Dubya got a hold of the keys, got high on neocon hooch, and crashed and rolled the family SUV.

He launched an unnecessary war against a country that had not attacked us. With his utopian No Child Left Behind scheme and his Medicare drug plan, he did his passable imitation of LBJ, and blew a hole in the budget.

Touting globalism, he presided over the loss of one in every four U.S. manufacturing jobs and ran up $5 trillion in trade deficits. He refused to defend the Mexican border against an invasion, then pushed an amnesty for the invaders.

This was no Reaganite. This was the neocons’ apprentice.

{Extraneous Deleted}

If the Republican Party wants a future, it will become again the party that stands on the principle that “No discrimination means no discrimination,” that stands with the victims of state bigotry, and that stands up to hypocrites like the Jim Crow liberals of New Haven.

How We Can Win the Second American Revolution Without Firing a Shot

How We Can Win the Second American Revolution Without Firing a Shot

A Tea Party Manifesto

by James Ostrowski

Ladies and Gentlemen

*** begin quote ***

To sum up, here’s a 12-step program for how you can start to restore the American Republic.

1. Decide that you’ve had enough. You want to do something to reverse America’s economic collapse. That something is nothing less than restoring the American republic. America’s problems of today were caused by the abandonment of that Republic slowly over a long period of time. Pledge allegiance to the principles of the American Revolution.

2. Write a letter to your family, friends and neighbors declaring your support for restoring the American Republic.

3. Invite them to a meeting.

4. Educate yourself on American history, politics and economics.

5. Hold the meeting and explain to them what you have learned and urge them to do the same and then hold their own meeting with their own social circle.

6. Display the symbol of the restoration of the republic, the Betsy Ross flag.

7. Patronize businesses that display this flag.

8. Boycott businesses that bankroll the political class.

9. Educate yourself on the rights of jurors. If you are called for jury duty, understand that the founding fathers designed the system as a check on government power. Remember that when you are in the jury room deliberating.

10. Patronize books, blogs, websites, newspapers, magazines, think tanks, and political groups that were right about the economic collapse. Mises.org., IlanaMercer.com and others. See our page for a complete list.

11. For political activism, join an existing Patriot group. Don’t reinvent the wheel. See our page for recommended groups. While I believe that politics is not our best field of battle at the moment, as our movement grows, we will soon be able to launch a successful frontal assault on the political class.

What has happened to the American Spirit of life and liberty? I guess they’re all at the mall or Starbucks and are too fat to get up out of their chair and fight. Or they’re looking forward to retirement and the “good life” after spending their life being a good soldier and playing by the rules and saving for the “golden years” while their real golden years of youth were passing them by. Certainly they can’t be asked to risk all that for something as silly as their children’s futures. How selfish of me.

Or maybe we don’t want to risk our children’s well-being now, so we defer it until they’re adults and let them deal with the fact that they can’t afford college or health care or a home without going into enormous debt and we never teach them the importance of things like: character, honor, integrity, truth and freedom but rather teach them how to live in fear and how important it is to get a “good job” and play by the rules and to go along to get along and that will be safe.

We’re pathetic.

*** end quote ***

We ARE pathetic.

Who will be our minutemen that assemble on the town green and say to the “King’s troops”: “NO!”?

With a mix of rifles and pitchforks, who drives the thugs out of the “capitals”?

Today’s politicians are not likely to take measures to avoid the coming chaos because senior citizens, the major beneficiaries of Social Security and Medicare, vote in large numbers and will exact a high political price. Plus, neither today’s senior citizens nor today’s politicians will be alive in 2050. I’d be more optimistic if my fellow Americans were simply suffering from congressional deception as opposed to their not caring about the economic calamity that awaits tomorrow’s Americans. I’d be even more optimistic if today’s seniors started putting heat on Congress to allow those Americans who want nothing to do with Social Security to opt out.

Patrons have their bags searched. All patrons. Mostly women. Men gat a pass. I’ve put Frau’s bag under my coat when she’s forgotten to leave it home or in the car.

Security theater!

Let anyone forget. RU is NOT a private business. It’s a State- funded “entity”. As such, it’s gooferment.

Note, when we went to Seton Hall, there was no such “bag check”.

How do we get our rights back, once they are taken away by gooferment?

I don’t know. Do you?

And, do get me started about the ongoing policy of selling bottles of soda but removing the cap. Students once threw them on the court.. After a few spills, smart repeat visitors just bring caps from home. Soda manufacturer put the prizes under the cap. I’ve seen the the vendors checking them. I guess they get to keep the caps that win. So they will be real diligent about “seizing ” the caps. Argh!

Students once staged a sit in on the court. We still have the absurd barriers up to prevent that from reoccurring. Hard on the handicapped and elderly who sit down court–side. Of course, there’s now VIP seating on the other side of that barrier.

It’s absurd!

Hold the ‘Catastrophe’: Obama Says He’s ‘Highly Optimistic’ About Economy

*** begin quote ***

WASHINGTON (AP) – Confronting misgivings, even in his own party, President Barack Obama mounted a stout defense of his blueprint to overhaul the economy Thursday, declaring the national crisis is “not as bad as we think” and his plans will speed recovery.

Challenged to provide encouragement as the nation’s “confidence builder in chief,” Obama said Americans shouldn’t be whipsawed by bursts of either bad or good news and he was “highly optimistic” about the long term.

The president’s proposals for major health care, energy and education changes in the midst of economic hard times faced skepticism from both Democrats and Republicans on Capitol Hill, as senators questioned his budget outlook and the deficits it envisions in the middle of the next decade.

But Obama, speaking to top executives of the Business Roundtable, expressed an optimistic vision and called for patience.

A Story about Change

*** begin quote ***

Hopefully you understand why I no longer believe in using the system to change the system. I’ve found the problem to be “the system”. The process for adding, changing and removing laws of any significance in the direction of freedom and liberty is hopelessly broken. Laws still work great for giving an edge to your friends, setting up barriers to entry, consolidating power to a few large players in a given industry (power, water, telephone, cable, autos, banks, etc. . ), or punishing others with unprofitable mandates.

A well said response to the challenge; “You and the other people who agree with you could accomplish so much more if you used the system to change the system.”

Do you stand with or against the Federal Government?
By Russell Kanning

*** begin quote ***

The 400+ men and women that meet in the NH State House this time of year are discussing whether or not NH should remain a part of the U.S. no matter what the Feds do. A handful of reps decided to put forth a bill, HCR6 that proposes that if the government in Washington DC decides to implement measures like mandatory national service, then NH will leave the union. That seems very reasonable to me. Upon entering the US, NH like the majority of other states, left themselves room to voluntarily leave the arrangement, and this bill is patterned after similar resolutions and declarations penned by Thomas Jefferson. So I am asking you, would you prefer to stand with or against the current incarnation of the US Government?

*** end quote ***

Frankly, I don’t think it matters.

It’s like asking if the slave master will let the serf go. Ain’t going to happen.

Unless the terrorists are landing on the shore, I’d say “against”.

Looking at the Obama acts and quotes, I’d say against.

If a convict can establish irrefutable proof of his innocence with a simple DNA test, does he have a constitutional right to that test, even if he has exhausted his legal appeals? Globalism vs. Ethno-nationalism
by Patrick J. Buchanan
01/30/2009

*** begin quote ***

Standing before the Siegessaule, the Victory Column that commemorates Prussia’s triumphs over Denmark, Austria and France in the wars that birthed the Second Reich, Barack Obama declared himself a “citizen of the world” and spoke of “a world that stands as one.”

Globalists rejoiced. And the election of this son of a white teenager from Kansas and a black academic from Kenya is said to have ushered us into the new “post-racial” age.

Are we deluding ourselves? Worldwide, the mightiest force of the 20th century, ethnonationalism — that creator and destroyer of nations and empires; that enduring drive of peoples for a nation-state where their faith and culture is dominant and their race or tribe is supreme — seems more manifest than ever.

*** end quote ***

It does seem that the USA is bucking history. Fighting against a tide of religious zealotry. Seeking to maintain freedom in an ever increasing climate of tyranny.

We need to launch a new effort for “political freedom”, just like we have “religious freedom” here. With calm civility. Tolerance.

But we must stand firm that “all men are created equal”.

Unfortunately, e seem to also be swept into intolerance of any idea that doesn’t match our own.

Freedom for everyone!

LIBERTY: Consider carefully where you will “land”!

Saturday, February 7, 2009

When I was but a wee lad, (OK I was never “wee”. And even “lad” might be doubtful. But play along!) before I graduated college, even before I found my soul mate, I went on vacation to Nevada. It was, at that time, a land of freedom. The Wild West. No speed limits, no drinking age, no gambling age, no taxes, not much gooferment, not much water. It was Paradise in the dessert. (Or desert!) I said to myself: “Boy, what great place to live. I should move here after graduation.” And, when vacation ended, I went home. And, forgot about it. (Guess I didn’t write it down. And, there were no blogs in those days to capture the possibilities.)

Lo and behold, I wake up many decades later and “Shouldas, wouldas, and couldas” are eating me alive. How would life have been different if I had moved for Freedom, Liberty, and the “Wild West”. Now, I’m “anchored” with the thousand strings that held Gulliver in Lilliput. And, old fart stuck in his ways.

But you’re not!

May I point out that there is another “land of freedom” emerging? The Free State Project is moving 20k Liberty Lovers to NH. They will transform the landscape. And, bring liberty to that State. Too late for me; not for you!

I urge you to take a jaunt to Porcfest and meet some pioneers.

Lest, like Scrooge, you wake up one Christmas morning, many decades from now and say “Shouldas, wouldas, and couldas”.

Video: Police Taser Son Who Tries to Rescue His Father After Police and Fire Department Refuses to Go Into Water
Published 1, December 5, 2008 Criminal law , Society , Torts

*** begin quote ***

The video below reveals another troubling use of a taser. 54-year-old Maurizio Biasini went to a Mendocino Beach called Portuguese Beach with his two twin sons, Dario and Andriano Biasini, and fell into the water. The police and fire department refused to go into the choppy water as the father was swept further and further out to sea. When the sons screamed at the officers for not acting and one tried to go into the water, the police tasered one son twice. The father was lost.

The fire department insisted on waiting for the Coast Guard as the distraught sons demanded action and swore at the officers. According to one witness, it was the police that turned the confrontation into a physical matter by grabbing one son around the neck and lifting him off the ground. They then tasered one son who wanted to rescue his father not once but twice. To make matters, the police proceeded to criminally charge the son for . . . you guessed it . . . interfering with a rescue that they refused carry out.

*** end quote ***

Not the “worst” case of police abuse I have ever seen on the internet.

Obviously, these people don’t understand that the bureaucrat’s job is to fill out paperwork. Save their father? Please, the uniform might get wet.

Now, they may have recognized there was no hope.

But, preventing the boy from trying himself? Who owns his body? May have been the boy’s last mistake, but it WAS his to make.

Handled badly. That cop looked like he had spent to much time at the donut shop.

Tasering the kid after he handled it badly, the cop should be charged with assault. At the very least, he should be seeking a new career.

I wonder if got a “paid vacation” (what they called administrative leave) and a promotion?

Argh!
