A federal court ruling in North Carolina this week will have a devastating impact on many of the nearly 20,000 Floridians currently registered with the Marine Corps for their exposures at Camp Lejeune to three known human carcinogens found in the camp’s drinking water, said a man who contracted breast cancer as a result.

Those Floridians are on a list compiled by the Marines. They may have been exposed as far back as 1953, according to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.

“Legally, we are done,” said Mike Partain of Winter Haven, who was born at Camp Lejeune 46 years ago. “The government has successfully found a silver bullet to put an end to legal issues. If this happened in Florida, rather than North Carolina, we would still be legally able to pursue the government.”

Neither the Marines nor the Department of Justice responded to requests for comment.

This week, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a North Carolina law limiting the time period in which a plaintiff can seek damages.

The law, called the statute of repose, placed a 10-year limit on which plaintiffs in that state can seek damages from exposure to contaminants, with no exception for latent diseases like the cancer contracted by Partain.

So anyone want to quibble that the Gooferment is immoral, ineffective, and inefficient?

I’m shocked that a Gooferment Court found that the Gooferment wasn’t liable for the harm it knowingly allowed.

The mother of ISIS beheading victim James Foley told CNN’s Anderson Cooper, on September 11, that she was “embarrassed and appalled” by the White House’s handling of her son’s kidnapping. On September 8 a spokesman for the family of ISIS victim Steven Sotloff claimed that both families were “bullied and hectored” by the administration.

So how many Big Three (ABC, CBS, NBC) network stories have been devoted to helping these families tell their shocking stories of a White House that let them down and even intimidated them? Just three (CBS 2, ABC 1, NBC 0).

However, in the summer of 2005 when anti-Iraq war mom Cindy Sheehan camped out in front of George W. Bush’s Crawford, Texas ranch the networks flooded their evening and morning shows with 100 stories (ABC 37, NBC 33, CBS 30) in the first month (August 9 through September 9) of coverage alone.

To warm you up to my view–which may at first seem odd–consider this quotation I found from a legal website: “Plea bargains are extraordinarily common in the American legal system, accounting for roughly 90% of all criminal cases. Many countries, however, do not allow plea bargains, considering them unethical and immoral.” Isn’t that interesting? By the end of this post, you’ll understand why this typical U.S. practice is considered a miscarriage of justice in many other parts of the world.

Your Penny Toward a Whopper

*** begin quote ***

I’m angered that Burger King has fled to Canada as a tax shelter. But I’m not angered at Burger King, which has only done what it thinks is best for its shareholders. I am, rather, angered at YOU. It isn’t Burger King that created the HIGHEST CORPORATE INCOME TAX in the world. YOU did that. And I DO NOT CONSENT!

*** end quote ***

“Corporations are merely tax collectors; not taxpayers. They merely pass their costs along.” Lawrence Alan “Larry” Kudlow is an American economist, television personality, and newspaper columnist. August 26, 2014 0830 on WMAL Mornings on the Mall Brian Wilson and Larry O’Connor

Essentially, taxing corporations hides the tax load on individuals. That’s one of the purposes of Big Gooferment is conceal how much tax we individuals are really paying. IF we knew, then the tax revolts would really start.

Add to that, the OTHER taxes that corporations pay (e.g., gas; utility; FICA for employees; “real estate”) also get passed along in their products. So when I go to the supermarket and buy a can of beans, I can’t tell how much of the price is cost of the beans, the cost to put the beans in the can, the cost of getting the can on the shelf, and the taxes paid along the way. It’s incalculable. And you politicians just love it that way.

Also, there is a another hidden layer of taxes buried in that can of beans, all of the costs of capital investment have taxes hidden in. Campbells buys a new machine to put beans in the can; how much in taxes is buried in that cost? Don’t forget the gas tax for the truck that delivered it. All buried.

Even worse is that the result of corporate taxes fall on the poor because they have spend to survive, those on fixed income who should be getting a break, families who have to spend, and the illegals who don’t get the full benefit of the taxes they are paying.

Bottom line: Only “real people” pay taxes.

My bottom line: I believe folks would be in revolt if they really knew how much in taxes they are paying.

Zero the corporate taxes. Cut the size of government.

During Independence Day weekend, a time to celebrate US freedom and unalienable rights, Americans in Oregon will be subjected to a “blitz” of ‘no-refusal’ blood-draw checkpoints, as part of a disturbing trend that now extends nationwide.

Local news station KVAL reports that State police are re-naming Fourth of July weekend “No Refusal Weekend”, as part of a crack down on drunk driving.

Any driver who is stopped by police and refuses to take an alcohol breath test will be subjected to a mandatory blood test either at the scene, at a medical facility, or at the nearest jail.

Police burst into wrong apartment, shoot innocent woman hiding in closet

Resolution

The indisputable facts of the case held that Ms. Davis had nothing to do with the investigation, yet she ended up being shot while unarmed in her own home by a police officer who should never have been there. Despite this breathtaking display of negligence and incompetence, the department investigated itself and cleared its officers of any wrongdoing.

Finally, after wrangling in the legal system for over 4 years, Nassau County agreed to settle with Ms. Davis to the tune of $650,000. As part of the settlement, the police internal investigation was officially sealed. According to Charles Horn, Ms. Davis’ attorney, this was to prevent its many “inaccuracies” from coming to light, which were falsely presented to convey justification for shooting an unarmed woman.

Taxpayers footed the bill, and no police officers received any sort of reprimand or termination.

Police ineptitude and corruption are practically inevitable, but they are enabled and magnified in scope by the existence of intrusive laws and widespread militaristic enforcement techniques. An end to the cruel Drug War and the overuse of no-knock raids would prevent situations like this from ever occurring.

*** end quote ***

So why does the Taxpayer get the bill?

It would seem that the entire civil bureaucracy should be penalized — both individually and collectively.

No bonuses, no raises, and further training.

No pain; no gain.

The Bolivarian Socialist revolution has claimed the lives of 41 Venezuelans and forced thousands of others to suffer long lines in supermarkets for basic needs. While the political situation in the country remains dire, the economic situation continues to worsen: Venezuela’s inflation rate reached 60% this month.

According to Infobae, prices on common goods increased 4.1% in March, with rates increasing 59.4% between March 2013 and March 2014. The numbers are late because the Venezuelan government is late on reporting them — reporting March’s inflation statistics fifteen days later than the legal requirement imposed by the Chavista government on themselves. There is no indication that the individuals running the Venezuelan bureau of economic statistics will receive any punishment for delaying the release of such information.

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Gooferment “welfare” traps everyone in a cycle of poverty

The White Ghetto
In Appalachia the country is beautiful and the society is broken.
By Kevin D. Williamson

*** begin quote ***

In effect, welfare has made Appalachia into a big and sparsely populated housing project — too backward to thrive, but just comfortable enough to keep the underclass in place. There is no cure for poverty, because there is no cause of poverty — poverty is the natural condition of the human animal. It is not as though labor and enterprise are unknown here: Digging coal is hard work, farming is hard work, timbering is hard work — so hard that the best and brightest long ago packed up for Cincinnati or Pittsburgh or Memphis or Houston. There is to this day an Appalachian bar in Detroit and ex-Appalachian enclaves around the country. The lesson of the Big White Ghetto is the same as the lessons we learned about the urban housing projects in the late 20th century: The best public-policy treatment we have for poverty is dilution. But like the old project towers, the Appalachian draw culture produces concentration, a socioeconomic Salton Sea that becomes more toxic every year.

“The government gives people checks, but nobody teaches them how to live,” says Teresa Barrett, a former high-school principal who now publishes the Owsley County newspaper. “You have people on the draw getting $3,000 a month, and they still can’t live. When I was at the school, we’d see kids come in from a long weekend just starved to death. But you’ll see those parents at the grocery store with their 15 cases of Pepsi, and that’s all they’ve got in the buggy — you know what they’re doing. Everybody knows, nobody does anything. And when you have that many people on the draw, that’s a big majority of voters.”

Her advice to young people is to study for degrees that will help them get jobs in the schools or at the local nursing home — or get out. “I would move in a heartbeat,” she says, but she stays for family reasons.

*** end quote ***

Reading this article makes me crazy.

Gooferment “welfare” is design to keep people “poor” and hopeless.

How many generations of human beings will we allowed to thrown away?

Executive Branch Illegalities Go Unsanctioned
Posted by Michael S. Rozeff on June 22, 2013 07:28 AM

*** begin quote ***

Now that the U.S. is openly arming groups in Syria, it has openly admitted that it has been training rebels for several years in secret bases in Turkey and Jordan. Up to now, those who reported or wrote of this were using other sources of information as here. The Guardian reported this on March 8, 2013. The U.S. had to admit this because of these reports, if nothing else. Obama likes to conduct his wars in secret.

When I speak of “illegalities”, I mean that the executive branch of the U.S. government constantly breaks either the Constitution, international laws, solemn pledges it has signed, treaties it has signed, or laws it has previously made (passed by Congress and signed by some president). Even if there were no moral case against the U.S. actions, which there is, there is a legal case (and a pragmatic case).

There has been no war declared on Syria. There is no Syrian aggression against the U.S. There is no legal basis for training rebels or arming them. The U.S. government is an outlaw rogue regime, constantly lying, constantly manipulating information as in this case, constantly hiding critical information, and worthy only of great disrepect.

*** end quote ***

Clearly, this is yet another example of abuse by the Executive branch. This is not a D or R thing. Both sides of the supposed “aisle” do the same thing.

But instead of cracking down on the perpetrators, authorities were busy issuing parking tickets on cars that were burned by the rioters. The conservative Swedish news site Fria Tider reports that owners of some cars destroyed in the riots were fined for parking illegally, while the Swedish police force described a low-key approach to the rioters themselves. City of Keene Goes after Robin Hooders in Court – Admits the amount of tickets issued are down and robin hooding is legal
May 12, 2013 by James Cleaveland

*** begin quote ***

The city of Keene has filed a lawsuit (copy here) against me and several other people regarding robin hooding (Respondents). Basically, the city wants the court to issue a “preliminary” and “permanent” injunction “restraining Respondents, or anyone under their direction, supervision, employment, or control, from coming within a safety zone of fifty (50) feet of any PEO [Parking Enforcement Officer] while that PEO is on duty.” Additionally, the city wants to stop us “from video recording, within a safety zone of fifty (50) feet,” and “from communicating with any PEO.”

*** and ***

This case also validates that robin hooding and all activities performed by people robin hooding are perfectly legal because the city (Petitioner) admits, “Petitioner has no adequate alternate remedy at law.” Further, the city has resorted to a civil case against me and others instead of a criminal one providing more evidence that no criminal actions were committed.

“I was so upset that this could happen,” said Coromalis.

Mississippi passenger detained, stranded in Hawaii by No-Fly List

By Elliott Freeman

Oct 17, 2012 – yesterday in Travel

A Mississippi man flying to visit his wife in Japan on Monday was detained during a stop in Hawaii and has been barred from reboarding his flight – or any other flight – because his name came up on the U.S. No-Fly List, leaving him stranded on the island.

Gulfport resident Wade Hicks, Jr., boarded a military jet at Travis Air Force Base in San Francisco so he could spend time with his newlywed wife, a U.S. Navy lieutenant stationed in Okinawa, Japan, the Canada Free Press reports.

According to Hicks, when the plane stopped for refueling at Hickam Air Base on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, he was escorted from the plane and detained by armed military personnel. After several hours, a representative of U.S. Customs and Border Protection arrived and told him he was pulled off of the flight because he was on the no-fly list.

Why was he put on the list? “They have given me no reason. They just basically are telling me, ‘You can’t fly because we said so,'” Hicks said in an interview with radio talk show host Doug Hagmann. “They didn’t know how I even left Travis Air Force Base.”

Sorry, but any bureaucratic organization that is this stupid needs to be put out of its misery.

It was a bad idea to start. Made worse over time. Unionized.

Just a waste of valuable human attention, time, and effort.

Close it down now.

The “terrorists” won by changing our way of life and getting us to do stupid things.

How dumb are we?

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Suppressing the military vote

Running Out the Military Voting Clock

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta wants to know if the military’s voter assistance offices are working–and he’s asking for an immediate answer. More from Air Force Times:

*** begin quote ***

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has directed military officials to provide him a report by Oct. 19 verifying that each of the 221 installation voting assistance offices is appropriately staffed to meet the needs of troops.

He gave officials three days to get it done; the memo was issued Oct. 16 to the service secretaries, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs, undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness, and chiefs of the combatant commands.

“We must do all we can to ensure that service members know the steps necessary to vote, particularly those service members deployed or based away from home. This issue must be addressed immediately,” he wrote.

Mr. Panetta issued his directive after the DoD Inspector General reported it could not reach about half of the voting assistance offices by phone, despite repeated attempts. Members of Congress have expressed similar concerns.

At first blush, the SecDef’s actions seem to be a model of bureaucratic urgency and concern. A three-day suspense for this sort of survey is virtually unheard of along the E-ring. So, a lot of action officers will be burning the midnight oil for the next few days to give Secretary Panetta the information he requested.

But in reality, Mr. Panetta’s demand is little more than a farce. The IG report was issued in late August–almost two months ago. Why did the Defense Secretary wait so long to issue that last-minute tasker?

Sorry, but this is “cheating”. All’s fair in love ‘n’ war.

At least in Heinlein’s Starship Troopers, soldiers couldn’t vote until they became a vet.

As a vet, I find this disgusting.

Argh!

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Gooferment fails to protect the children

Alert: Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office has preliminarily identified the body of a girl found near her home as that of Autumn Pasquale

# – # – #

I feel terrible for the girl’s family and their neighbors.

That a teenager isn’t safe in her own neighborhood.

Sorry, but no person in Government should get anything but an below average rating next year.

The only valid reason to have Gooferment is to protect the citizens from all enemies foreign and domestic.

Clearly, in this case, it failed.

I have to wonder that if the girl was properly trained and armed if the result might have been different?

Aren’t we will to trust our progeny?

Landowner stands ground against government ‘shake-down’
Supremes agree to decide how much regulators can require

“But regulators saw a chance to pounce and make all kinds of costly, unrelated, outrageous demands,” he said. “Without any justification, the government demanded money, labor and resources as the price for allowing the Koontzes to use their own land.

“This was a flat-out shakedown, a form of extortion,” he said.

Family members had tried for years to develop the land, but the local St. Johns River Water Management District would not issue the necessary permits, “because Koontz would not agree to costly and unjustified conditions that the district imposed.”

“Specifically, the district demanded that Koontz dedicate his money and labor to make improvements to 50 acres of district-owned property located miles away from the proposed project,” the legal team explained.

“In other words, what we have here is a classic case of an unconstitutional shakedown. The U.S. Supreme Supreme Court has ruled that the government violates property rights – it commits a ‘taking‘ in violation of the Fifth Amendment – if it tries to use the permitting process to extract conditions that aren’t related to the impact of the proposed development.”

In March 2010, Lauren Morosoff packed her stuff into her 2008 Scion TC and moved from Kendall Park to Colorado for a job opportunity.

Unsure of how long she’d stay in Colorado, the 27-year-old kept her New Jersey driver’s license and license plates.

But a few days later, the Morosoffs had a change of heart — not because they felt they were wrong — but because of pure economics.

The cost to file an appeal is $75, plus transcription fees, and they’d have added costs to send the documents “certified mail.”

“It seems like Lauren might have to appear in court and with the cost of airfare over $400 and the time she’d have to miss from work, it’s not financially feasible,” Morosoff said. “I suppose she could hire a lawyer to represent her, but I can’t imagine what his fees would be.”

Simply paying the fines would be far less costly, unless an attorney would take her case pro bono.

“This really eliminates any faith I had in our judicial system,” Terri Morosoff said.

“We cannot even trust our own state to do the right thing. I feel very sorry for all New Jersey and non-New Jersey drivers out there,” she said.

“Who knows how many others have received bogus tickets and were forced to pay them?”

Mr. President, Why Is My Son in Afghanistan? By Anna Berlinrut

Anna is a member of Military Families Speak Out — the only nationwide organization of military families (and supporters) that want to bring our troops home from Afghanistan NOW and take care of them. There is power in numbers. We now have approximately 4,000 military families registered and about 2,000 non-military supporters. The larger we grow, the more powerful our voice will be. We also want to stop the War with Iran before it starts. That war would also not be in the best interest of our country.

September 17, 2012

Dear Mr. President:

He’s been in Afghanistan for two weeks, but I feel as though I’ve aged 10 years. This is my only son’s sixth deployment in harm’s way.

I was supposed to get together with friends Saturday night. But when I read that two more NATO troops were killed in Helmund Province in a green on blue attack, I cancelled my plans. Then I found out they were Brits. This morning I heard that four American troops were killed by Afghans in uniform. Another mother’s son is dead. Not mine.

I don’t understand why our troops are there. First we were told it was to destroy al Qaeda. But Bin Laden is dead and al Qaeda has not been in Afghanistan in large numbers in many years. They are now scattered around the world in many countries.

*** and ***

My son is an ANA trainer in one of the most volatile regions of Afghanistan. He has left his pregnant wife and two young sons to go half way around the world to a country where many of the people he is trying to help want to kill him. Our President cannot give me a valid reason why he is there. It’s time to bring all of our troops home and take care of them.

Sincerely,
Anna Berlinrut, Maplewood, New Jersey

Like Ron Paul said: “We can just march out!”

There is NO logic to why we are there, still there, ever went there.

Argh!

This just proves to me that the “anti-war movement” was astroturf!
