DOD Immigrant Soldier Citizenship Promise Broken by U.S. – source Military.com

Six soldiers have filed a class-action suit charging the U.S. promise of citizenship for service – dating back to the nation’s founding – has been broken by DoDs restrictive policies on naturalization. The six non-citizens, who all enlisted in the Army under the Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest program ( MAVNI), alleged new and lengthy security checks for possible terrorist ties and other measures have effectively blocked them from obtaining citizenship. The suit, filed on their behalf by the American Civil Liberties Union, charges DoD policies enacted in 2017 “unlawfully obstructed the ability of thousands of service members to obtain citizenship, placing them in a state of personal and professional limbo.”

VETERANS: Do NOT bring back the draft; repeal its legislation

Bugle Blasts July 2020 Vienna VA 22181
Volume 12 Number 1 Cell: 703-861-0726 Email: bugleblasts@gmail.com

*** begin quote ***

As I begin the 12th year of Bugle Blasts – something different – a rare editorial comment.

The Selective Service System and a Draft

There is occasional talk about bringing back the draft to replace or supplement the All-Volunteer US military. Having retired from the Army and having worked as a civilian for Department of the Army, the Selective Service System and Department of Veterans Affairs, a return to a draft is an option I have generally supported since I believe it would provide a better cross-section of the nation’s youth vs. the all-volunteer service. But would it be practical course of action?

If a draft (which, under present laws, would be all-male) were authorized today, the Selective Service System could provide the first allotment of 100,000 men in approximately 13 days, with additional allotments to arrive subsequently. So, where would they be sent for training? Where would they be housed? Where would the uniforms and equipment come from? Who would do the training? Where would they be sent when basic training was completed? Finally, how would they be paid? The first month base pay for the first allotment of 100,000 would be about $180,000,000 (a new recruit earns about $1,800 a month base pay). But today about 56% of new enlisted personnel are married and have families (70% of new officers are married), so all that additional pay and allowance-reiated cost would be added on top, plus medical care, quarters, schools and more.

Before the US initiated the WW2 draft an Army Private or Navy equivalent earned $21 a month base pay, unchanged since the Civil War, and all recruits were unmarried. It is interesting that in 1940 when the War Department mobilized the National Guard, a National Guard Private earned $1 a day. Their pay could not be reduced to $21 a month. As a result there was an immediate pay raise for all active military personnel.

So, while a draft might be an excellent idea, there are a few problems associated with taking such an action.

*** end quote ***

America was a different place both before the draft by Abe Lincoln and after Viet Nam.

In the prior time, “We, The Sheeple” joined their State militia.  In the later time, “We, The Sheeple” had see enough young boys ground into hamburger.

I oppose the “DRAFT” as unconstitutional slavery. Ditto of the various forms of “draft” disguised as “training programs”, Gooferment-sponsored volunteer “opportunities”, and any form of “public / private partnerships”.

It’s the “endowed by their Creator” part that prohibits Gooferment coercion.

And, let’s not forget that the Dead Old White Guys abhorred a “Standing Army”, as well as “special militias” like the BATF, FBI, etc. etc. and (let’s not forget) the (well armed) Department of Agriculture.

There’s only one answer, by the way, one answer,’ Scott continued. ‘It’s because she’s lived so long in a state of privilege that she has forgotten that it’s the Republican Party that voted more for the Civil Rights-era legislation than the Democrats.

Smart Society, Stupid People

Tyler Durden Sun, 06/21/2020 – 22:45 Authored by Jeffrey Tucker via The American Institute for Economic Research,

We’ve lived through the most bizarre experience of human folly in my lifetime, and perhaps in generations. Among the strangest aspects of this has been the near universal failure on the part of regular people, and even the appointed “experts” (the ones the government employs, in any case), to have internalized anything about the basics of viruses that my mother understands, thanks to her mother before who had a solid education in the subject after World War II.

NEWJERSEY: “King” Murphy must be dethroned!

Tyler Durden Fri, 06/19/2020 – 23:40 Authored by Michael Lesher via Off-Guardian.org,

Growing up as I did in the Cold War, I still experience a special kind of shudder whenever I come across an anecdote like that of Katya Soldak, whose Soviet nursery school teacher once showed her class a photograph clipped from a Western newspaper, “depicting skinny [Russian] children in striped robes walking in a straight line.” The capitalists who printed that picture wanted people to think Soviet children were “treated like prisoners,” the teacher declared angrily, “when in reality the kids were on their way to a swimming pool in their bathrobes.” Which was a nice story (thought little Katya) — except that “I had never even seen a pool…. [T]hey existed in my mind as does an exotic animal or an unvisited city.” A time capsule from a remote dystopia?

Source: Lies, Damned Lies, & COVID-19

*** begin quote ***

On June 4, New Jersey’s Governor Murphy issued his third consecutive extension of what was supposed to be a thirty-day “state of emergency” he had originally declared — unilaterally — on March 9.

What was the “emergency” this time around? In the governor’s own words: “there has now been a decrease in the rate of reported new cases of COVID19 in New Jersey, in the total number of individuals being admitted to hospitals for COVID19, and in the rate of reproduction for COVID19 infections in New Jersey.” Got that? New cases, hospitalizations, even the “rate of reproduction” for the virus are all on the wane throughout Murphy’s jurisdiction. (And have been for months.)

Yet in today’s Newspeak, that’s an “emergency” — enough to justify another month of democracy-free rule by executive fiat.

FUN: Horses’ Asses control almost everything.

History of Railroads

This may have been around before, so apologize if a rerun but thought it was both interesting and funny!

(FJR: It has but it’s timeless)

Railroad Tracks

The U.S. Standard railroad gauge (distance between the rails) is 4 feet, 8.5 inches.  That’s an exceedingly odd number.

Why was that gauge used?

Because that’s the way they built them in England, and English expatriates designed the U.S. Railroads.

Why did the English build them like that?

Because the first rail lines were built by the same people who built the pre-railroad tramways, and that’s the gauge they used.

Why did ‘they’ use that gauge then?

Because the people who built the tram ways used the same jigs and tools that they had used for building wagons, which used that wheel spacing.

Why did the wagons have that particular odd wheel spacing?

Well, if they tried to use any other  spacing, the wagon wheels would break on some of the old, long distance roads in England, because that’s the spacing of the wheel ruts.

So, who built those old rutted roads?

Imperial Rome built the first long distance roads in Europe (including England) for their legions. Those roads have been used ever since.

And the ruts in the roads?

Roman war chariots formed the initial ruts, which everyone else had to match for fear of destroying their wagon wheels.

Since the chariots were made for Imperial Rome, they were all alike in the matter of wheel spacing.

Therefore, the United States standard railroad gauge of 4 feet, 8.5 inches is derived from the original specifications for an Imperial Roman war chariot.

In other words, bureaucracies live forever.

So the next time you are handed a specification, procedure, or process, and wonder, ‘What horse’s ass came up with this?’, you may be exactly right.

Imperial Roman army chariots were made just wide enough to accommodate the rear ends of two war horses.

Now, the twist to the story:

When you see a Space Shuttle sitting on its launch pad, you will notice that there are two big booster rockets attached to the sides of the main fuel tank.

These are solid rocket boosters, or SRBs  The SRBs are made by Thiokol at their factory in Utah.

The engineers who designed the SRBs would have preferred to make them a bit larger, but the SRBs had to be shipped by train from the factory to the launch site.

The railroad line from the factory happens to run through a tunnel in the mountains and the SRBs had to fit through that tunnel.

The tunnel is slightly wider than the railroad track, and the railroad track, as you now know, is about as wide as two horses’ behinds.

So, a major Space Shuttle design feature of what is arguably the world’s most advanced transportation system was determined over two thousand years ago by the width of a horse’s ass.

And you thought being a horse’s ass wasn’t important!

Now you know, Horses’ Asses control almost everything.

Explains a whole lot of stuff, doesn’t it??!!

Strategic Allocation of Coin Inventories

The Federal Reserve is working on several fronts to mitigate the effects of low coin inventories. This includes managing the allocation of existing Fed inventories, working with the Mint, as issuing authority, to minimize coin supply constraints and maximize coin production capacity, and encouraging depository institutions to order only the coin they need to meet near‐term customer demand. Depository institutions also can help replenish inventories by removing barriers to consumer deposits of loose and rolled coins. Although the Federal Reserve is confident that the coin inventory issues will resolve once the economy opens more broadly and the coin supply chain returns to normal circulation patterns, we recognize that these measures alone will not be enough to resolve near‐term issues.

LIBERTARIAN: Statue-toppling, right and wrong – The Boston Globe

How should we decide when it’s appropriate to remove a statue or monument to some person from a public place of honor? I argue for a two-part test: (1) Was that person honored for unworthy or indecent behavior? (2) Is that person known today primarily for unworthy or indecent behavior? When the answer to both is no, the statue or monument should stay.

By that test, every memorial that glorifies leaders and generals of the Confederacy should be hauled away. The cause for which they struggled was the vilest cause in American history: the perpetuation of African slavery. They were extolled because they went to war in defense of human bondage.

With all due respect to a great columnist (IMHO), I disagree.

The War of Northern Aggression was not a “civil war” (i.e., a fight between two factions to control the “country”).

It also was not about slavery.  It was about tariffs being imposed to benefit the Northern States at the expense of the Southern States.

At a deeper philosophical level, it was about “American nationalism” as opposed to the American republic.

Sorry but this war was a “Second American Revolution” that was the end of the American republic.

So sad that we are on the road to ruin that we were put on when George Washington and the first Congress violated the Constitution as it was “sold” to the various People of the States.  If they had been smarter, the Dead Old White Guys would have never approved the Constitution.

Sigh!

The stupid files increase daily. I almost don’t know where to begin.

Perhaps we should start with General David Petraeus. No one would call the philandering former CIA director an idiot. Corrupt, perhaps, but not an idiot.

Except maybe he is. Consider this stupid piece he wrote for The Atlantic on June 9: “Take the Confederate Names Off Our Army Bases.”

Petraeus didn’t know that Ft. Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina was named for Andrew Jackson, not Thomas J. Jackson.

That’s right. An army four star general (with a Ph.D) was not aware of the history of a major army military installation, but we should listen to this guy, right?

Stupid. But maybe we shouldn’t expect much more from a man who handed classified information to his paramour.

His piece is typical virtue signaling nonsense sprinkled with Yankee Self-Righteous Delusional Disorder and topped with a bit of neoconservative Union worship.

Liberty Must Survive in Good Times and Bad Times, by Sean Gangol

We have a series of cases where governors and local officials have violated the First Amendment rights of church goers. In Kentucky we have seen the police record the license plate numbers of those who chose to attend Easter sermons. In Mississippi, the local police decided to disrupt church services that were delivered to a congregation that never left their cars. Recently, the mayor of Chicago authorized a full-scale raid against a black church that was holding services in her city. Sadly, it’s not just church goers that have had their rights violated. In Colorado there was a father who found himself handcuffed by the police for breaking social distancing rules when he played catch with his own daughter in the park. Yeah, you read that correctly, his own daughter. Even in my hometown of Houston you have Lina Hidalgo, the Judge of Harris County who is so overzealous that she needs to be consistently reminded by Governor Abbot and the higher courts that she doesn’t have the authority to release criminal inmates onto the streets, fine people for not wearing masks in public or single handedly passing a voting by mail initiative. In Dallas Abbot had to intervene when Dallas officials wanted to put a salon owner in jail for seven days for opening her shop a week before all hair grooming businesses were allowed to reopen in Texas. I do feel lucky living in a state that has a Governor and higher courts with enough sense to keep overzealous officials in their place.

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? . . .” — Alexander Solzhenitsyn
