July 4 Atlanta Tea Party Cancelled

With as many as 20,000 people attendance, the Atlanta Tea Party on April 15 was one of the largest and most successful Tea Parties in the country. The Atlanta Tea Party on July 4, 2009 had been expected to be just as large. Unfortunately, plans have changed. Simon Property Group has forced the cancellation of the Atlanta Tea Party.

*** and ***

Following the money, connecting the dots:

   1. Gwinnett Place Mall shut down the Atlanta Tea Party.

   2. Simon Property Group owns Gwennett Place Mall.

   3. Melvin Simon (a Forbes 400 billionaire) is Co-chairman of Simon Property Group, Inc.

   4. Melvin Simon has provided large political contributions to Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Al Franken, John Edwards, the DNC and many other Democrats and Democrat organizations.

   5. Melvin Simon was a major contributor to Barack Obama inaugural committee and has given at least $1 million to the William J. Clinton foundation.

   6. Melvin’s wife, Bren, personally donated almost $100,000 to various political candidates, was a fundraiser for Hillary Clinton’s presidential bid, and contributed to President Obama’s inaugural committee.

Two can play that game. Call for a boycott of all Simon Malls – there are plenty of alternatives looking for our dollar. Write to the merchants management and say why you will not shop at a Simon Mall – they suppress Freedom of Speech and the constitutional right to assemble. Boycotts worked in the South before, they will work again especially if wide spread throughout the country. Nobody tells Simon where to invest his money and it is his right to contribute to whichever candidate he thinks will benefit this country. But our choice of where to shop is beyond his reach. Not that one can’t smell the stink of perversion from Chicago via Washington. Hardball they want? Hardball they get.

  1. Don’t you know in many places you have to get a in order to assemble? Malls are private property. Yes, the public uses it but that doesn’t mean you can’t get kicked off the property. I know at least one Simon property that will not allow more than a certain number of teens to walk around the mall together. Boycott all you want but if Simon properties doesn’t want you there, it’s their right.

  2. I’m all in! Total Simon properties AND their tenants. The only courtesy I will extend them is announcing the boycott in the letter of protest that I intend to send to each and every one of them.

  3. I’m sorry to hear of your trouble. One of the things I learned in my MBA class was “to fail quickly”. It’s trying to hang on that makes a bad situation worse. Thank the politicians and the FED for the economic mess. And, despite the “stimulus” bill, aka Porkulous, it’s only goign to get worse. Who’s going to pay off the debt? Sigh, and the sheeple think everyhting is fine.

  4. As a former tenant with Simon Malls here in the Austin area, I will tell you that being a local owner of a boutique within one of their malls has been my downfall this year. When the economy started taking a downturn last year, I tried to get out of my lease with Simon -they are ruthless people. To make a long story short, I have closed my business, filed bankruptcy, lost of my savings including my 401K and IRA and I am in the midst of losing my home. Simon does not care that we are in the midst of the worst economic downturn in over 50 years….they just want their money….at any cost. Simon Property Group is ruthless!

  5. I have contacted 10 retailers so far and informed them that I can and will find other retailers who do not have stores in Simon Malls.

  6. Do you know that Simon Properties shut down the Atlanta Tea Party by “asserting authority” on property agreements that had expired in 2004? They asserted rights they don’t have. If the information about the expired agreements had come to light sooner, the Atlanta Tea Party could have unfolded according to plan.

The good news coming from this story is that in spite of the heavy-handed deceptive sabotage, Atlanta-area Tea Party patriots will have their day. Metro-Atlanta Tea Party Patriots are joining forces and combining resources. Be there for the big Metro-Atlanta Tea Party on July 3, 6:00 PM at Jim Miller Park, 2245 Callaway Road, Marietta, GA. http://tr.im/pVGk
