Insulin is the hormone that regulates blood sugar levels within the body. Diabetes is the most well known condition involving insulin; however, insulin resistance is a more common condition affecting 25 to 30 percent of all Americans. Insulin resistance is a precursor to type II diabetes.

The “witch doctors” know that diabetes is “big trouble”.
They think they know how to scale it — something crazy like “brutal”, juvenile, adult-onset, something very odd like “pre-diabetic”.
They can tell you all sorts of stuff about it — ml of glucose per cc of blood sample, factoids about blood chemistry, the role of stuff like insulin in the human body. After you get unconfused, you realize they have not clue#1 as to what’s important about it.
They “prescribe” exercise, lose weight, tight control, and various and sundry drugs. They will turn you over to a “registered dietician” who is nothing better than a shill for “conventional wisdom”.
(Our Girl was “sent” thrice to one over a span of 35 years. Of course, I was along for the ride. The pitch changed not a wit from visit to visit. It was flat out wrong for her. Follow their “diets”, her sugars were worse, she felt worse, and what she hated most was that she GAINED weight. Even the doctor admitted she should go back to what she was doing. Which was contra-intuitive, but even the doc admitted she’d “discovered” what worked for her.)
They will subtly communicate to you the fact that they have not clue#1 when they say things like: “Diabetics are always upside down”, “Lab results and diabetics don’t mix”, and my personal favorite “don’t worry, be happy, you’re going to have short life”. (Honest! Great Brother Jasper’s Ghost visit me tonight if that’s not what her first doctor, Doctor Ron, told her. He was spot on and she loved his blunt honesty.)
So, thinking about this, because of the cited link, you must find your own way. Don’t depend on “authorities” or bureaucrats. It’s the old “doctor” is chicken who’s involved in your situation, but you’re the committed pig in the project of “making breakfast”. My thoughts and prayers are with all that suffer this terrible affliction.

FLASH: The famed statue of Joe Paterno
Sunday, July 22, 2012The famed statue of Joe Paterno was taken down from outside the Pennsylvania State University football stadium Sunday, eliminating a key piece of the iconography surrounding the once-sainted football coach accused of burying child sex abuse allegations against a retired assistant.
Workers lifted the statue off its base and used a forklift to move it into Beaver Stadium as the 100 to 150 students watching chanted, “We are Penn State.”

‘Wow…what a worthy …goal.’ I…… told her, ‘But you don’t have to wait until you’re a President to do that! You can come over to my house to mow the lawn, pull weeds, trim my hedge, and I’ll pay you $50. Then I’ll take you over to where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house.’

PRESIDENT-Unbelievable
THIS MOST UNBELIEVABLE PRESIDENT?
HERE IS HIS RESPONSE WHEN HE BACKED OFF FROM HIS DECISION TO REQUIRE THE MILITARY PAY FOR THEIR WAR INJURIES.
Bad press, including major mockery of the play by comedian Jon Stewart, led to President Obama abandoning his proposal to require veterans carry private health insurance to cover the estimated $540 billion annual cost to the federal government of treatment for injuries to military personnel received during their tours on active duty. The President admitted that he was puzzled by the magnitude of the opposition to his proposal.
“Look, it’s an all volunteer force,” Obama complained. “Nobody made these guys go to war. They had to have known and accepted the risks. Now they whine about bearing the costs of their choice? It doesn’t compute.”
“I thought these were people who were proud to sacrifice for their country,” Obama continued “I wasn’t asking for blood, just money. With the country facing the worst financial crisis in its history, I’d have thought that the patriotic thing to do would be to try to help reduce the nation’s deficit..I guess I underestimated the selfishness of some of my fellow Americans.”
Please pass this on to every one including every vet and their families whom you know. How in the world did a person with this Mindset become our leader?

If he thinks he will ever get another vote from an Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard service member or veteran of a military service he ought to think it over.. If you or a family member is or has served their country please pass this to them.
Please pass this to everyone. I’m guessing that, other than the 20-25 percent hardcore liberals in the US, citizens will agree that this is just another example why this is the worst president in American history. Remind everyone over and over how this man thinks, while he bows to the Saudi Arabian king…

Now, I heard this at the time. I didn’t follow all the nuances.
But, to a certain extent he’s right, and to a certain extent he’s so wrong it’s “funny” as in “funny peculiar”.
Since I’m always accused of “politician bashing” and BHO44 obsession, let’s start with what he got right:
(1) It is an “all volunteer” force. There are a few caveats I’d put on that:
(1a) Ever heard of “stop loss”? A form of involuntary servitude.
(1b) Ever listen to a National Guard commercial? It doesn’t says: “you’ll go one of the sand boxes frequently”. It says “protect your neighbors”; only if they speak Farsi.
(1c) Ever hear a recruiter’s spiel? You’d admire used car salesmen for honesty.
(2) “… know and accepted risks.”
(2a) Did they know the policies when they signed up and made it part of their long term plan that: the politicians would shrink the force, make the “mission” look like Viet Nam had clarity, and have the Pentagon Perfumed Princes agree with every stupid idea that a politician thinks up.
(2b) Did they know that: “We, The Sheeple” would be encourage to forget what was going on?
(2c) Did they understand that they’d be used as “political chips” in a national political calculus and an international game of “stupid Uncle Sam”?
(3) “Whine ..”
(3a) When “Wounded Warriors” runs commercials to say “Joe Vet needs a dribble vest cause the shell scrambled his brains and the VA won’t pay for it”, I go <synonym for the act of procreation in real time> nuts! I pay a lot of taxes. (Trust me a lot. Overt and hidden. That’s upsetting.) To hear them begging because the Gooferment can’t fulfill ONE of its real core missions — VA CARE — just sends me to the moon.
(3b) From the “Bonus Army” of WW1 surprised by McArthur, to the WW2 GI Bill that got “sliced down”, to the recall of the Korean War, to the national disgrace of the “Viet Nam, Republic of” vet’s treatment, the “nation”, if there is such a thing, cavalierly “renegotiates” it’s commitment to Vets whenever it’s convenient and it can fly under the radar. If the Gooferment was an insurance company, the “Customers” would have deserted eons ago.
(3c) “We, The Sheeple” really don’t hear what the ranks think. It’s an Article 13 to critique the chain of command. About all they can do is vote with their feet. I’d wager without the threat of sanction, we would really get an earful.
You know I don’t think I have to do the “cons”.
Other than to say, it all stinks!

Item #4 is for those with children. First this is free. Second, it’s invisible to all but the most techie kids.
* Open a free account on OpenDNS. (Not even sure this is required, but it’s a trivial step that allows them to enumerate their User community.)
* Open your favorite browser, connect to your router, (usually http://192.168.1.1 or 2.1)
* Find the screen where the router holds the DNS entry. (Easy. Most routers have tabs on their admin screen. One will be labeled: “DNS”.)
* Replace what the ISP gives you (theirs. so they can collect ad $ on you) with the OpenDNS values. 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220.
That’s it. Each platform that starts up will shift to use the OpenDNS.
No one is the wiser that you’re protecting them.
You should check from time to time. You don’t “own” the router; the ISP does. From time to time, they will push a “refresh” or “software update”. (Not for your benefit, but theirs.)
Some of the more paranoid, not me, actually put another router after the ISP router. They wish to prevent the ISP from browsing their platforms or seeing the intra-platform traffic.
FMPOV who cares.
p.s., I use OpenDNS to prevent popup porn, phishing, and malware. Been using it for eons. I don’t understand why more people don’t. Don’t have to think about it. Most bad sites just won’t resolve. YMMV

MACBOOKAIR: Time to plan an exit
Wednesday, July 18, 2012Well, it is time to play they exit from the MCBA. Then, salvage what value I can from this trek down a technology mistake. A very expensive lesson.
So, what has to be done and what direction to take?
*Strategically, back to wintel, chrome tops, on to the cloud platform agnostic, or Linux?
* Strategically, what cloud services are impacted by platform, if any
* Strategically, where do the iPads fit in the technology plan
* Strategically, glad I didn’t lock into an iPhone. Do I need a “smartphone”. Don’t think so.
* Strategically, the mifis look smart now!
* Tactically, what about iCloud?
* Tactically, what about @me @mac
* inventory the apps on the MCBA
* what gets left on the island until the platform dies
* inventory the hardware that supports it
* what functions does it support and what’s the transition?
* What can be salvaged and sold off?
Argh, more work!
