HARDWARE: AT&T MIFI Sierra Wireless “UNITE” problem

Saturday, May 11, 2013

New AT&T MIFI Sierra Wireless “UNITE”

MTTF about a week.

LOCKED in “shutting down”.

Not easy to get access to the battery. Pulled it and reinserted. Problem solved.

Then, I had to fix what I messed up floundering around.

I popped the SIM thinking that might break the “shutting down” lock.

No dice.

I guess when I put it back in I didn’t ram it home. Afraid of breaking it.

So when it came back up, it whined about “no sim card”.

Easy fix.

But strike one!

Argh!

GUNS: “Gun Free Zone” is a free fire zone for the bad guys

A Brief and Bloody History of Gun Control
by Anthony Gucciardi
StoryLeak

*** begin quote ***

Painted signs reading ‘gun free zone’ and gun control legislation that really only affects law-abiding citizens does not prevent mass shootings, as we have seen evidenced by more than one shooting incident. Both the Aurora shooting at the Colorado movie theater dubbed the ‘Batman shooting’ and the most recent Sandy Hook incident in Connecticut both occurred in areas with heavy gun regulation. Amazingly, the Batman shooter actually traveled to the one movie theater in the area that actually did not permit lawful citizens to carry a concealed weapon. According to Dr. John R. Lott in an interview with Newsmax,

”…the one he picked was the only one of those movie theaters that banned people taking permit-concealed handguns into that theater.”

*** end quote ***

Again, these killers are crazy, but not stupid.

I don’t understand why the victims are not litigating with the movie theater for that policy putting them in harm’s way.

Like the Luby’s story, law abiding people obey laws. Criminals don’t.

Seems as simple as 1+1=2 … …

Yet, the Sheeple and Clovers allow the Gooferment, politicians, bureaucrats, and liberal media disarm everyone with “wishful thinking”.

Argh!

TINFOILHAT: New assertions in Patton’s death

Thursday, May 9, 2013

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/3869117/General-George-S.-Patton-was-assassinated-to-silence-his-criticism-of-allied-war-leaders-claims-new-book.html

General George S. Patton was assassinated to silence his criticism of allied war leaders claims new book
George S. Patton, America’s greatest combat general of the Second World War, was assassinated after the conflict with the connivance of US leaders, according to a new book.

By Tim Shipman in Washington 7:16PM GMT 20 Dec 2008

*** begin quote ***

The newly unearthed diaries of a colourful assassin for the wartime Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the forerunner of the CIA, reveal that American spy chiefs wanted Patton dead because he was threatening to expose allied collusion with the Russians that cost American lives.

The death of General Patton in December 1945, is one of the enduring mysteries of the war era. Although he had suffered serious injuries in a car crash in Manheim, he was thought to be recovering and was on the verge of flying home.

But after a decade-long investigation, military historian Robert Wilcox claims that OSS head General “Wild Bill” Donovan ordered a highly decorated marksman called Douglas Bazata to silence Patton, who gloried in the nickname “Old Blood and Guts”.

His book, “Target Patton”, contains interviews with Mr Bazata, who died in 1999, and extracts from his diaries, detailing how he staged the car crash by getting a troop truck to plough into Patton’s Cadillac and then shot the general with a low-velocity projectile, which broke his neck while his fellow passengers escaped without a scratch.

I never heard this one before.

Seems likely since he was very anti-communist and the Gooferment was steering us towards Socialism.

Didn’t see any illusion of this in the movie.

Guess it didn’t advance the Party line and agenda.

POLITICAL: Why legalize drugs?

Thursday, May 9, 2013

Why Good Parents Should Support Drug Legalization

May 4, 2013 |
A friend of mine used to laugh when I said I was in favor of legalizing all drugs. He just couldn’t fathom such a position. He told me that if they legalized drugs, “It would take all of the fun out of it.”

Three years after he died of a heroin overdose, I wonder whether he’d be alive now if drugs had been legal.

As a father, I sometimes find myself on the receiving end of an argument that’s a perennial favorite [3] of the hardened drug warrior: Why would I, the father of a nine-year-old girl, advocate for a society awash with legally available drugs?

The answer is simple: My daughter is already growing up in a society in which illegal drugs are easier to procure than alcohol. Unlike the guy behind the counter of my local liquor store, I’ve never known a drug dealer who checked IDs.

***

If you buy alcohol you know it’s not cut with rat poison.

If I had a kid, I don’t want the to die for a mistake.

Similarly, I don’t what them to spend time in jail for what is basically a medical condition.

And, like in Prohibition, all the killings are from drug dealer’s turf war.

So I want Walmart, Walgreens, and RiteAid to be the nation’s drug dealers.

We’ll all be better off!

MONEY: The political counter-party risk in Social Security

Wednesday, May 8, 2013

http://www.obliviousinvestor.com/the-political-risk-of-delaying-social-security-until-70/

The Political Risk of Delaying Social Security Until 70
via Oblivious Investor by Mike on 5/6/13

*** begin quote ***

Some people argue that holding off on claiming Social Security is akin to betting that there won’t be any rule changes. I don’t think that’s true. While certain Social Security reforms would make it advantageous to claim earlier, other reforms wouldn’t change the decision at all, and others could actually make it more advantageous to delay claiming benefits.

The five potential Social Security reforms that I see suggested most often are:

Increasing or eliminating the payroll tax cap,
Increasing the payroll tax rate,
Increasing the full retirement age,
Means testing benefits in some way, and
Switching from regular CPI to chained CPI for calculating cost of living adjustments.

*** end quote ***

One would hope that once you begin to collect that “they” won’t change the rules ex post facto.

We now that they can and do (i.e., the taxability of benefits).

But the Sheeple and Clover let them get away with it.

Argh!

GOLDBUG: Waiting lists for coins and bars?

Gold buyers forced to go on waiting list
Gold buyers are having to wait up to six weeks for their bars and coins after a price dip led to increased interest.

By Rosie Murray-West3:55PM BST 30 Apr 201358

*** begin quote ***

Investment company Physical Gold said there were waiting lists of three weeks for some coins, and four to six weeks for gold bars. “Previously all would have been available within a few days,” the company said.
The company said that it had seen a 50pc increase in enquiries about purchasing gold and a 35pc increase in sales, with people buying tax-free gold coins. “We are now starting to experience physical gold shortages,” said Daniel Fisher, CEO of Physical Gold.

“In particular there are waiting times on some gold bars and a real difficulty in obtaining mixed year Sovereigns. “However, many clients are willing to ‘do a deal’ and wait for delivery as they want to secure the current price as they feel it will be higher in the near future.”

*** end quote ***

# – # – #

Yeah, the price drops on “paper” gold, but premiums (seniorage) on “hard” gold goes up.

Now who doesn’t think the Sheeple and Clovers aren’t being manipulated?

RANT: Can’t drive a car, vote, or drink, BUT …

FDA: OTC MORNING-AFTER PILLS FOR 15-YEAR-OLDS
30 Apr 2013, 3:14 PM PDT
By LAURAN NEERGAARD
AP Medical Writer
WASHINGTON

*** begin quote ***

The Plan B morning-after pill is moving over-the-counter, a decision announced by the Food and Drug Administration just days before a court-imposed deadline.

Tuesday, the FDA lowered to 15 the age at which girls and women can buy the emergency contraceptive without a prescription _ and said it no longer has to be kept behind pharmacy counters.

Instead, the pill can sit on drugstore shelves just like condoms, but that buyers would have to prove their age at the cash register.

*** end quote ***

So let me understand, these girls can’t drive a car, vote, or drink, BUT they can take powerful drugs with side affects?

And, I guess their parents get to clean up the mess afterwards?

So, what happened to statutory rape? Child molestation!

Argh!
