The aggregate effect was a manufactured unanimity or the appearance of one. In the post-war prosperity, Americans bought washing machines and tract houses and were content. Television was wholesome, sterile, and not very informative. Superman jumped out of window to promote truth, justice, and the American way, then thought to be related.

Came the internet. Fairly suddenly, every point of view became available to everybody: The KKK, the Black Panthers, communists, fascists, feminists, loon left and loon right, the-earth-is-flatters. The social media and comment sections allowed lateral communication with a vengeance.

A consequence was that the major media became known for what they were, propaganda organs of those who ran the country. Stories that the fossil media would have liked to ignore flew instantly to hundreds of thousands of inboxes, appeared on countless blogs and websites—often with cell-cam video.

I think this is an astute observation. That and the aspect of “lateral communication”.

“Lateral thinking” has been around for awhile and helps one “see” missed choices and find missed solutions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lateral_thinking

The Free State Project https://freestateproject.org/about/101-reasons-move-new-hampshire would have been virtually impossible without the inet.

In my own profession of computer engineering, the inet has exposed that most large corporations have NO disaster recovery. Sure they can put files in the cloud, but can they restart their business after a data center is wiped out. Timing is everything. But the leadership wants to play “ostrich” and waste money believing their IT executives. Interesting that this big bluff has yet to be “called” yet.

What else has the inet silently revolutionized without being realized?

I wouldn’t mind having a “driverless car”. 

I don’t think it will happen in my lifetime.

It will hugely disrupt the economy. Hard to imagine all the impacts.

Great for the senior citizens who should no longer be driving.

However, the basic question remains unanswered: Why is the U.S. defending Europe? The need for America to play an overwhelming role disappeared as the continent recovered and the Cold War ended.

Clearly, this should be a top priority of any new President. “We, The Sheeple” should not be paying for Europe’s, Japan’s, South Korea’s, or anyone else’s!

Well, not only do we need to call the politicians and bureaucrats to “fix” the concept of “sovereign immunity” that protects the police and prosecutors from their abuses. Some of the stuff that gets reported is absolutely inexcusable. We’re not talking about a minor mistake or flub; these stories document prosecutorial or police criminal abuse.

Also, the courts need to be open to ANY appeal that could prove one’s innocence. I don’t care if it was evidence available at the time of trial, new DNA capabilities, or ineffective counsel / abusive prosecutorial conduct. The door should be always OPEN for proof of innocence. If I was President, I’d take these cases under advisement. 

Better a hundred guilty go free, than one innocent is in jail.

Just think, the unlucky stiff in jail could be YOU!
