Had those 108,600 votes gone to Hillary Clinton, she would have won the presidency with a a 278 to 260 electoral college victory over Trump.

You have to admire the wisdom of the Dead Old White Guys.

They constructed a system that made politicians pay attention to the small states.

Stuff all the ballot boxes in Chicago. Have all the dead folks vote in California and New York. Fudge the all the polls. Slant the news. 

It doesn’t matter if a politician ignores “electoral map”, they will lose. 

Pretty sharp system to ensure a “national fairness”!

Of course, now the losers want to do away with it for a straight popular vote. And if that happens, let the stuffing begin!

I wrote a lengthy column about Jeanette Rankin three years ago in KONK Life. An interesting woman.

On this date in 1916, Rankin became the first woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. From Montana. Western women worked shoulder to shoulder with the men. They had a different respect than their eastern compatriots.

Rankin did not last long in office. One term. She was a pacifist. Voted against entry into World War I.

Some twenty years later, Rankin was again elected to the House. Again, only for one term. She was the sole vote against the U,.S. declaration of war against Japan following December 7, 1941.

Rankin needed police help to leave the House building following her vote. A crowd of angry persons had her confined in a telephone booth.

I didn’t know this before today. I did know that there was only vote against entry in WW2.

You have to respect someone with the courage of their convictions.

Perhaps she saw that the Lusitania was not what it seemed (i.e., it was carrying munitions), that “war” would turn dead Americans into big profits for the war industry (shades of Ike warning the USA of the military industrial complex), and that George Washington warned about becoming entangled.

Then in her next term, she saw that it was FDR’s plan to end the depression, again turn bodies into profits, and turn the USA into a global empire.

Special place in heaven for her.

Most libertarians value peace as a principle because it minimizes the State.

In today’s modern world, it is easy to tell time. There are clocks on buildings, billboards, cell phones and microwave ovens. Then there’s the old-fashioned grandfather clock in the hallway.

But what if you didn’t have a watch? What would you do then?

And if you didn’t have a calendar, would you know when winter was coming? When it was the appropriate “time” to plant? To harvest? How old you are? How long would it take for you to “forget” to mark down a day or several days, or several weeks, thus obscuring even your age?

Native people had certain signs that they relied on and they actually had a very good sense of “time” — even though it differs from what we would consider time today.

White Man’s Time Clock

For many tribes, the clock – the one the Europeans used and brought to America — was a strange thing that was not easily understood. Some tribes thought that since the clock moved on its own and that it sometimes made sounds, it was a living thing.

It really is an insightful question. People work themselves to death by the clock.

Perhaps it’s better to ignore “time” and focus on “life”?

I often rant about Time Zones and Daylight Savings Time. Is this the meme that illustrates how crazy our species is?

Do we needlessly complicate “life” by our paradigms and memes on “time”?

Imagine the simplicity of a “universal time zone” like GMT. It just means that a nine to five job in New York would be a “Two to 10”. Each of the current time zones would just adjust their labels. And no more confusion as to what time is the there!

Laugh!

And DST is just stupid and kills people.

Not likely to change but it does give us an interesting insight.

As thousands are gathering in the streets in London around the world for the “Million Mask March“, donning Guy Fawkes masks (popularized by the excellent movie, “V for Vendetta”), it’s important to remember that Guy Fawkes was not a hero. Fawkes was willing to commit violence against people to forward his cause. While many libertarians may feel the government deserves violence in response to their violent, depraved acts, here at the Free Keeneblog, we’re committed to peaceful evolution.

Violence may appear to work in the short-term, but ultimately all it does is justify the ever-increasing police state in the minds of the state actors and their supporters. Violence also brings you down to the level of the state – that’s the tool they use. We should not want to be like them. There are a myriad of peaceful solutions to moving liberty ahead in our lifetime – the most powerful of which is to concentrate liberty-minded activists in one geographic area – New Hampshire. Another major solution is to end New Hampshire’s involvement in the federal government.

To that end, for the fourth time in about a month, V-mask wearing activistsgathered in Keene’s Central Square to demonstrate in favor of New Hampshire declaring peaceful independence from the United States. Normally our response from drivers and passers-by is very positive, but today people were even more excited and interested. We had at least a dozen people take photos of us from their cars or while walking around, plus one guy from Massachusetts even parked and came up to shoot video of us. People in New Hampshire love the idea of independence and setting NH free from the evil United States federal government!

One can only hope, that like the USSR, Granite Staters would be allowed to peacefully leave “These United States of America”. Or, the USA empire.

The right of self-determination should be recognized as an inherent human right.

I’m just Mr. Good News lately.

This week I reported on falling profits at the New York Times, as well as my car giveaway (I’m giving away a 2017 Kia Soul, as you know from yesterday’s email).

And today it’s this:

American academics have zero impact on anything.

Five different people sent me an article on this today. It made me happy.

American academia is dominated by left-liberalism. Some good work is done. Lots of forgettable, insignificant, or insane work is done.

And most of it, thank heavens, is not read.

Some 82 percent of articles in professional humanities journals have not been cited even once, ever.

It’s estimated that the typical academic journal article is read by no more than 10 people. In some fields, that’s actually a vast overestimate.

As academia has become more and more isolated from the normal experiences of regular Americans, so too have professors begun to offer fewer and fewer policy recommendations.

In the 1930s and 1940s, 20 percent of articles in the American Political Science Review focused on policy recommendations. Now 0.3 percent do.

And that’s all to the good, if you ask me.

The New York Times is hemorrhaging ad revenue, and nobody is listening to the left-liberal academic echo chamber.

Alas, the politicians could not abide such a reminder of their own folly, and so Armistice Day was eventually changed to something the politicians could exploit — Veterans Day. Whereas Armistice Day highlighted the dangers of militarism and interventionism, Veterans Day promotes these schemes. Yes, the holiday includes appreciation for soldiers past and present, but it’s also used by politicians to tell…

A Big Lie

Politicians exploit Veterans Day (and Memorial Day too) to claim that they used our soldiers to defend freedom. But is that really true? We’re going to stress-test this claim between now and November 11th. We’ll review our wars and interventions one-by-one and ask the following questions…

  • Was the war necessary to defend America?
  • Did the politicians use our veterans to defend freedom or harm freedom?
  • Did the war make things better or worse?

We believe the evidence is overwhelming that the politicians’ wars have…

  • Made America less safe
  • Harmed freedom
  • Made the world worse, on balance
  • Injured and destroyed veterans for little benefit

But you’ll be be able to judge for yourself as we present the evidence. We do this because…

We want to prevent the loss of more young lives in useless wars

Alas, experience has taught us that we’re not allowed to speak the truth on Veterans Day or Memorial Day. It’s okay to lie about our wars on those days. The lies are greeted with enthusiasm. But the truth is met with howls of outrage and shouted down. And so…

If the truth must be silent on Veterans Day and Memorial Day, that’s all the more reason for it to be proclaimed loudly on the days before. That’s what we intend to do between now and November 11th.

If our case convinces you, please share it with others. Start a conversation about the correct way to honor veterans and the war dead. We believe it should be possible to honor their courage and mourn their loss, without telling lies about how they were used. We hope you’ll consider our case in the days ahead.
