Oregon norovirus traced to reusable grocery bag
Health Video

*** begin quote ***

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Oregon investigators have traced an outbreak of norovirus to a reusable grocery bag … …

*** and ***

On Sunday, team members had lunch in a hotel room, passing around the bag and eating cookies it held. On Monday, six girls got sick.

Oregon scientists determined they had picked up the norovirus from the grocery bag.

Tests turned up the virus on the sides of the bag below the polypropylene handle.

The results of the research have been published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases.

The authors are Kimberly Repp, epidemiologist for Washington County, and William Keene, senior epidemiologist with Oregon Public Health.

Norovirus causes about 21 million illnesses, 70,000 hospitalizations and 800 deaths a year in the United States. It caused 139 of 213 outbreaks of gastroenteritis in Oregon in 2010.

The germ can spread quickly in places like day care centers, nursing homes, and cruise ships.

Well, we all know how “dirty” human beings are.

And, those reusable grocery sacks may be tempting.

But plastic that you toss won’t transmit a virus. Not around long enough!

Yes, the Re-Education Camp Manual Does Apply Domestically to U.S. Citizens
by Paul Joseph Watson
Prison Planet

*** begin quote ***

The most alarming portion of the document appears on page 56 and makes it clear that detention camps will have PSYOP teams whose responsibility will be to use “indoctrination programs to reduce or remove antagonistic attitudes,” as well as targeting “political activists” with such indoctrination programs to provide “understanding and appreciation of U.S. policies and actions.”

Let’s make one thing clear – the manual primarily deals with enemy combatants captured and detained in foreign prison camps run by the U.S. Military. However, another thing that is just as clear from reading the manual in full is the fact that it also applies to citizens detained within the United States, whether they be DCs (displaced citizens) or “civilian internees,” in other words citizens who are detained for, “security reasons, for protection, or because he or she committed an offense against the detaining power.”

Firstly, throughout the manual there are scores of references to how the U.S. Army would work together with the DHS, ICE and FEMA (page 24) to implement the policies “within U.S. territory” as part of “civil support operations” in the aftermath of “man-made disasters, accidents, terrorist attacks and incidents in the U.S. and its territories.” (page 38).

*** end quote ***

If this doesn’t convince you, then you truly are one of “We, The Sheeple” and deserve all you get.

OTOH, I and my fellow patriots may go down, but it’s going to be expensive.

See the Oppressors depend on tranquil lambs bath-ing quietly as they go to the slaughter.

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? . . .” — Alexander Solzhenitsyn

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Yet another “bad kop” story

Special to L. Neil Smith’s The Libertarian Enterprise

This past Saturday night 21 April, a friend of mine, Ginny Cambron, was at a night club with a friend of hers. As they were leaving, another woman bumped into Ginny and began to get an attitude with her. Ginny’s friend stepped in between the two women to prevent anything from starting. As he did so, the other woman threw her drink in his face. Ginny and her friend immediately turned and left the bar to avoid any conflict. Her friend pushed the door open forcefully, which broke a plate of glass.

And so starts yet another “bad kop” story.

How many of these will “We, The Sheeple” accept?

Sorry, my “emotional tank” overflowed a long time ago.

DO I believe that every “actor” in these stories? NO!

IS every “actor” the representation of “true goodness” or “true evil”? NO!

IS this blog an evidentiary hearing to uncover the truth as best humans can? No!

This is a social commentary that WHEN the expect levels of a process are targeted at ZERO and the observed results if FAR GREATER than that zero, then this fat old white guy injineer says that the process is “Operating Outside of Acceptable Boundaries” and becomes a “MATTER REQUIRING ATTENTION”.

OK, Sheeple, what are YOU going to do about it? You’re on notice!

Remember the German Jews, Gypsies, Homosexuals, other “Undesirables”, and any “good people” who objected being loaded on the trains for their death camp.

For those Sheeple that object “Can’t Happen HERE!”. Have you “forgotten” the “Reservations” for the American Indians and the Japanese American Internment. Hell they have you lining up and taking off your shoes at airports. What’s next? Strip searching women. Like the XRAY machines?

SERVICE: FACEBOOK shoots itself in the foot

Is This Censorship? Facebook Stops Users From Posting ‘Irrelevant Or Inappropriate’ Comments
Colleen Taylor

*** begin quote ***

Updated. Today was just another Saturday morning in blog land when Robert Scoble, the well-known tech startup enthusiast, went to post a comment on a Facebook post written by Carnegie Mellon student (and TechCrunch commenter extraordinaire) Max Woolf about the nature of today’s tech blogging scene. Scoble’s comment itself was pretty par-for-the-course — generally agreeing with Woolf’s sentiments and adding in his own two cents.

But when Scoble went to click post, he received an odd error message:

“This comment seems irrelevant or inappropriate and can’t be posted. To avoid having comments blocked, please make sure they contribute to the post in a positive way.”

Now, Facebook makes no apologies for working to create a safe and clean environment on its corner of the web by shutting down abusive or harassing behavior, content such as pornography, or generally spamming of the system. This particular method policing “inappropriate” comments may be new, but it would fall within the same general realm.

*** end quote ***

I love it when these tech giants step in it.

Like this!

Haven’t seen it personally, but I can imagine some developers buying the midnight oil to fix it and then again being “burned at the stake” on Monday morning,

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Family farms … the latest target?

Friday, May 4, 2012

http://ncc-1776.org/tle2012/tle668-20120429-03.html

The Wholesale Slaughter of America’s Family Farms
by Jonathan David Morris

*** begin quote ***

Case in point: Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis and her unbridled effort to obliterate family farms.

Last August, the Department of Labor looked around, scratched its head, and decided the new thing it should focus on was applying child labor laws to agricultural settings. Offhand, you’re thinking, “Well, shouldn’t they be applied?” Well, sure. In a corporate feed lot. What we’re talking about here is the use of children on farms that those children’s families own. Put into practice, these laws will, in the words of a Department of Labor press release, prohibit children under the age of 18 from “being employed in the storing, marketing, and transporting of farm product raw materials.”

Furthermore, the laws would designate a number of farm-related places as completely off limits to children. Dangerous places like country grain elevators. And silos. And… livestock auctions?

Our country isn’t as loaded with family farms as it used to be hundreds of years ago, but such farms do, indeed, still exist, and these child labor laws would do nothing short of hurt them.

According to Secretary of Labor Solis, the reason for this move is simple. “Children employed in agriculture are some of the most vulnerable workers in America,” she says. “Ensuring their welfare is a priority of the department.” It doesn’t take a genius to know that any time the government cites the children as a reason for an action, all of us should be extraordinarily nervous.

So let’s look at what these laws would accomplish, before we determine why.

*** end quote ***

Obviously, just another payoff to “Big Something”.

By “Big Something”, just consult the Sheeple’s dictionary:

“Big Pharma”, who controls the FDA. “Big Labor”, who got the lion’s share of the GM takeover. “Big Banks” who got the bailout to loot the Treasury.

So in this example, the Big Corporate Farmers are getting a subsidy  from the taxpayer directly and indirectly. Wonder who pays for the lobbying. And, campaign contributions. Think back as to “cui bono” (i.e., who benefits) from the genius idea to put food plants into our gas tanks when a large chuck of the world’s population is starving? If you think the Consumer or the Taxpayer, then I have a bridge to sell you!

Argh!

GOVERNACIDE: “Prostitute-gate” gets a bigger reaction than “Fast and Furious”

Thursday, May 3, 2012

http://ncc-1776.org/tle2012/tle668-20120429-01.html

Another Letter from A.X. Perez

Anyone who has any doubt about the pro administration bias of the media or the anti gun bias of our media need only look at the current Secret Service scandal. I may be mistaken but it seems to me that over the last two weeks the news have given more time to the fuss created by Secret Service agents trying to cheat prostitutes out of their pay than it has given the Gunwalker Scandal over the last two years.

Anyone who pays attention to things will note that more people have been fired, reprimanded, or allowed to quit over cheapskate gate (doesn’t even rate caps) than have been punished over Operation Fast and Furious. Apparently the Government “error” which caused the deaths of some two hundred or so Mexican citizens, plus American citizens killed because they were visiting kin in Mexico, plus at least two American Law Enfocement agents is less noteworthy than Secret Service agents defrauding whores.

A.X. Perez

# – # – #

After all “Fast and Furious” only killed a few hundred people that we know about. “Prostitute-gate” allows them to rip the conservative white-male organization as part of the “war on women”.

Will there be better living through chemistry? Count on it.

Will there be long waits in local doctors’ offices – doctors who still serve Medicare patients? Yes.

Will thousands of physicians cease to take new patients because too many new patients will be on Medicare? Yes.

Start making plans to shift to the medicine of the future. It will be cross-border medicine. That is where the savings will be. That is where the innovation will be. That is where the FDA won’t be.

One can only hope.

Having “lost” Frau Reinke to an know blood disorder, during which some very smart and dedicated people gave her their best effort, “medicine” is still at best and art. At worst, it’s a corrupt system where no one cares.

I attribute that to the lack of “greed”. Remember “Greed is good” as a meme because it get that species, which is characterized by its usual uncooperativeness and irritability, to work together to satisfy as many needs and wants has possible.

MACBOOKAIR: Finally complete the LION upgrade

Tuesday, May 1, 2012

OK!

I was thanks to DRIVESLIM ($, not free) able to free enough space on the slender MACBOOKAIR which I cam McBahh1.

I was then able after 3 password resets finally get an MAC APP STORE id that would work.

I was then able to download the LION MAC OSX UPGRADE ($). That I had already paid for. Thankfully, I didn’t have to pay for it again.

I was then able to perform the UPGRADE.

An hour later, while I was doing other things, McBahh1 dinged like an oven timer and it was done.

Observation: McBahh1 is now running “sprightly”. No more performance like a nursing home resident. We’ll see if any of the old problems return (i.e.: “I’m too tired to compute; I’m taking my union break for as many minutes as I feel like”; “There’s no free disk space; deal with it.”, or my perennial favorite “Year, I rebooted; what of it?”)

Casualties: NVU (free) no longer runs; I quickly found BLUE_GRIFFON (free) to replace it.

Observation: BLUE_GRIFFON doesn’t do file transfer like NVU did. (Argh!)

New method: FILEZILLA dusted off to upload. New version of FILEZILLA installed. Works.

Casualties: MAC OSX 10.7.3 aka LION in the FINDER utility no longer displays the amount of free space. (Or it’s not obvious how to do it.)

Opinion: Well worth it. But what a hassle. Months of hassle to get to this point. Exponential number of Arghs.

FUN: My paradigm shift at the recent wedding as I was taught a new wedding meme

Monday, April 30, 2012

Went 2 THAT wedding Saturday.

“We’ll see if I have the charm of my younger days and some beautiful young thing finds me young, thin, handsome, AND irresistible.”

… to my Russian co-worker, who wanted to schedule an early Monday meeting. She looks at me in her deadpan style mitt the thick accent and replies: “I C U. I schedule Monday meeting at 8!”.

After the rehersal dinner, as the Father of the Bride and I were leaving together, three “young” (30-ish) expressed graphically some interest. They must have been querying my “older” friend cause they couldn’t a been talking to me. Outside he and I got a lotta yucks out of that one. I have to go back to repentance again. I’m not sure who exactly came up with the very uncharitable comments — ‘Melanie Griffith” (our code for “Looks like a Working Girl”), “everyone is beautiful at closing time”, and particularly Not Zen like “that 1,000 mile journey can be seen on the your wrinkles”. And those were the bloggable ones.

At the reception, I got razzed about two female guests who expressed interest. One was just a “lost soul” and the other was on the hunt. Thanks to the Sister of the Bride’s Mother, who threw a key block to spring the running buck (me) to complete my run to the door. Yep, still got it. Yeah, I know. All it was, was that I was alive. ROFL!

And, thanks to the Husband of Bride’s Mom’s Sister, who thought it was hysterical to do something like “Hey have you met my friend John” every time “the tigress” cruised by our table. Glad to know my discomfort was SO entertaining. He was just paying me back for scaring him that my “reading” was really four pages long. He thought I was announce my run for Pope. It was a short reading that I reprinted and corrected. (Yeah, a fat old white guy injineer correcting spelling. What’s next? “CHURCH 10●19●62” wins a Pulitzer? More likely a “pull it sir; it blocking real books”!) Maybe I should HAVE read it as written originally from the Bride: “Don Ho Hot Love”! ROFL!!!

Sigh!

Oh well, on to work tomorrow. My Russian co-worker was correct. I’ll be back to the “fun” tomorrow.

If I survive the Beltway traffic?

# – # – #

I survived.

The paradigm shift: SOME women saw me as “available”. And, at least, two made no bones about it.

The meme shift: Gone are the days when I can just go to a wedding and relax. Now I know how the chicken feels being chased around the barnyard.

Thanksgiving prayer: Thank you Universe for not making me, or letting me, do a “face plant” on the way to or from that sky platform.

Overheard: Taylor Swift should star in a ‘Grease’ remake

*** begin quote ***

It’s probably only a matter of time before “Grease” joins “Footloose” and “Dirty Dancing” as classic films being remade for a new generation, and Olivia Newton-John knows it.

The 63-year-old actress told “Showbiz Tonight’s” A.J. Hammer that she’s not opposed to the idea of a “Grease” remake, and even has an idea on who could star in her role as Sandy:

{Extraneous Deleted}

*** end quote ***

# – # – # – # – #

63? She can’t be. She’ll always be that demur timeless “Debbie Reynolds as Tammy” girl who morphs into one hot “every boy’s fantasy”. If she is 63, what does that make me? OLD!

And, I just realized I missed my chance (in my dreams) to win her heart!

Argh!

I would advise Ms. Swift — as if she needs advice from a fat old white guy injineer — to be very careful. I believe that she can pull off the role of pre-transformation tightly-emotially-wrapped Sandy with ease. BUT, (and there is always a BIG butt), she might need a body double to out “hot” Olivia Newton-John’s Sandy as the more-tightly-physically-wrapped “trampy” vamp. I think that would be hard to beat. Boob job or not!

SOFTWARE: MARSEDIT v3.5 (5031) has what I’d call a “user interface” bug; resolved

Sunday, April 29, 2012

MARSEDIT v3.5 (5031) has what I’d call a “user interface” bug. It doesn’t crash, but it doesn’t respond the same as the old version and the result produced is “livable, but not as it once was”.

The last version (number unknown) on the macbookair a keyboard <shift><return> would do a “line feed”, but not a “carriage return”. This version <shift><return> and <return” act identical (i.e., extra white space of paragraph in the post).

So how do I get what I want?

I liked the old output. MarsEdit’s value has just dropped from 5* to 3*. Because now I’m asking what else has changed and what other bugs have been introduced?

# – # – # – # – #

Excellent support from the folks at REDSWEATER.

Within hours I had a response.

It was a UI change. To do the old <shift><return> is just a <command><return>.

AND, they immediately agreed there should have been a “Heads Up”.

They now go from 3* back to 5* in my book.

As they say in the war movies: “That is all. Carry on!”.

Sports Couple Catch Foul Ball & Fail to Give it to Heartbroken Child, TV Announcer NOT Pleased

During a game between the New York Yankees and the Texas Rangers Wednesday, one young fan almost had his world shattered when he failed to catch a foul ball tossed into the stands by the Rangers’ Mitch Moreland.

Instead, the ball was snagged by a couple who were quite pleased with their catch. So pleased, in fact, that they failed to notice the weeping, heartbroken kid right next to them.

*** end quote ***

(Anyone who knows me, knows the story I’m remembering about Our Girl and her foul ball. This story demos her character. But that’s not what this blog post is about.)

What a pair of Scrooges?

What I found “inspirational” is probably the Spirit of Old George S watching “his” Yankees from his ultimate “skybox” and taking care of the problem with his usual direct style. The instrument he “played” was Kaye, who moved several notches higher in my book on this story. He was already up there; just ascended further. (Not as if that matters.) And either Kaye called down, or some in the Yankee org was really “on the ball” in this case in more than one way. Giving the kid a ball

“Bravo Zulu” to all who made that happen.

I’m writing a letter to the Universe now: “Dear Universe, Attention: Karma Department, Please schedule this couple for remedial education in empathy, sharing (as in the fruits of good fortune with your neighbor), and specifically “suffer the little children to come unto me”. I’m sure the innovative boys and girls up there in the “Good Karma” section can come up with suitable scenarios. I’m equally even more sure that the bad and naughty, working remotely remote in the basement next to the fires and torments, can come up a suitable response. Please ask them to tone it down a little. Supply tells me that we are running low on plagues and locusts. Priority for those is given to corrupt politicians and evil dictators. Please pass along my kudos on the last two that they took care for us. The first should have already arrived at the stable basement for a few eaons of <synonym for excrement> shovelling, and I’m told the second will be there shorty. I’ll appreciate your prompt response. And hope it’s up to your usual standards. Humor’s been a little thin in the head office as a result of the Midwestern Tornados. That reminds me to check how the West Baptist Church’s prayer request got on the Action pile without being routed to the SPAM folder. Guess well have to put a support request for Microsoft Ou`tlook Really Big Enterprise Version 9. When is 10 due? Argh. Signed, God”

RANT: Michelle as “Marie Antoinette” and she and BHO44 are really “out of touch”!

Group: Michelle Obama’s Spain trip cost taxpayers $467k

Published: 2:12 PM 04/26/2012

*** begin quote ***

It cost taxpayers nearly a half-million dollars for first lady Michelle Obama to travel to Spain in 2010, according to an analysis by Judicial Watch.

The right-leaning watchdog group estimated that the trip cost $467,585. It based its analysis on documents obtained from the U.S. Secret Service and the U.S. Air Force.

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said it took his group “two years and a lawsuit to get these documents out of the Obama administration.”

“It is hypocritical for President Obama to fire GSA officials for wasteful conference spending, while his family went on a luxury vacation in the Costa del Sol Spain that cost taxpayers nearly half a million dollars,” Fitton said.

*** end quote ***

And, the liberals, left slanted media, and the Hollywood comedians pictured Bush41 and Bush43 as “out of touch”.

That cartoon of Michelle Obama as Marie Antoinette was exactly right!

“Let them eat cake!”

OBSERVATION: Not the the “Last Lecture”, but the Last Laff”

Friday, April 27, 2012

THINKING ABOUT WHAT I’M DOING NOW:

I’m in a corporate apartment two blocks away from work.

I’m waiting to close on a condo about 3 blocks away.

So the commute is, and will be, trivial.

Since I have “no life”, I work 7am to 6pm. And eat two meals in the cafeteria.

So, i guess it’s like prison?

Once I get a handle on my new job, I’ll get back to my writing.

Right now everything is hectic.

Which my relatives think is good for me. We’ll see.

They may be humoring “grumpy”, Ihe fat old white ingineer.

In order to grow the estate, that will allow them to live in the style that they’d like to become accustomed to.

Lol!

Guess they’ve never read about some crazy old lonely loon who leaves everything to their cat.

And, they haven’t heard about me buying a dog called “Evlynn”.

He, who laffs last, laffs best?

Even if it’s a fat old white guy injineer!

With apologies to the “Last Lecture” fellow, <<<Randy Pausch, RIP 2007 at age 47>>>, who taught me “the fake” and the definition of “brick walls”.

Microsoft Windows
Take advantage of limited time SkyDrive loyalty offer from Microsoft

Takeaway: Get a free SkyDrive upgrade to 25GB just by clicking the right link, but don’t wait too long.

This story has been showing up all over my social media streams and on several of the websites I track, but I could not leave the news to chance when it comes to readers of the TechRepublic Microsoft Windows Blog. Whether you use Microsoft’s SkyDrive on a regular basis or just occasionally, you still have a limited time to upgrade your account to allow access to more free storage space.

I grabbed mine. You?

TINFOILHAT: Another assertion around JFK

Thursday, April 26, 2012

Book claims JFK’s mistress was assassinated by the CIA ‘because she knew too much about his assassination’
By Daily Mail Reporter
PUBLISHED: 17:09 EST, 19 April 2012 | UPDATED: 09:11 EST, 20 April 2012

*** begin quote ***

The suspicious death of one of President John F. Kennedy’s mistresses just months after his death has sparked numerous conspiracy theories.

The latest version posits that socialite Mary Pinchot Meyer, a beautiful divorcee who was close friends with the Kennedys and is widely known for having a lengthy affair with the playboy President, was shot in a cover-up operation by the CIA.

A new book alleges that, in her preoccupation with her lover’s assassination and ensuing personal investigation, she may have gotten so close to the ‘truth’ that the CIA found her to be a threat.

As a result, agency operatives staged a shooting to make it look like she died due to a sexual assault that turned violent.

Whether or not the theory is true, there are a number of questionable components to the story of the months leading up to her death on October 12, 1964.

*** and ***

He goes on to say that she was later murdered by the CIA, who he believes organized the assassination of the President in an effort to stop him from preventing violent escalation that they wanted in the Cold War.

*** end quote ***

This has all the earmarks of a good tin foil hat story.

But there’s just nothing to hang your hat on.

The assertion that the JFK assassination was to prevent him from going on a tear for “peace” has been repeated many times.

The assertion that the CIA is part of a shadow government again many times.

The mistresses, many times.

What’s interesting in this tale is the absence of a suspect. The connection to JFK. And, timing.

Did she get too close?

Maybe.

But this side of the Pearly Gates we will never know.

Baring a break through, I’d say that the evidence supposrts an assertion that we don’t know the real story.

Just on that basis alone, that’s enough to shut down the CIA.

Why do we have it?

Another vestige of the Cold War. And why I believe the word is a dangerous place, I’m not sure that the CIA makes it any safer. Too many rogue “elephants” tromping around.

NOTRECOMMENDED: Google’s GDRIVE while live; when uninstalled leaves a mess. NOT GA; use only if you’re on the “bleeding edge”!

Thursday, April 26, 2012

Looks interesting as a DROPBOX competitor.

I can’t tell if it uses real hard drive space. (It must.)

So it’s behind DROPBOX. (You can tell DROPBOX that you don’t want a local copy.)

Also, it copies to the local drive all the docs on the GOOGLE_DOC account. (I don’t want them all on local. That’s why I put them up on GOOGLE in the first place Argh!)

Jury is still out!

# – # – # – # – #   2012-Apr-25 @ 18:51

GDRIVE puts down a “footprint” on your machine. I don’t know what all that crud it but in my case it’s two or three GIG!

Even uninstalling with APPCLEANER doesn’t remove the “footprints” (i.e., at least two directories with big files). One of which is PICASSA related if your believe the directory names.

I’d classify this as alpha software and leaving it the “bleeding edge” folks until it gets more exposure and “testing”.

It’s imho NOT ready for prime time use.
