Sounds like the Gooferment didn’t do anything wrong to harm those people.

BUT, (and there is always a BIG butt), a politician shoots out on Twitter like they did.

Predictabe, but sad.

Boy who was bullied for his homemade Tennessee Vols t-shirt sees it made into an official strip | Daily Mail Online

Sunday, September 8, 2019

After the university heard about his shirt the campus store shared an image of his design as a piece of official merchandise, writing: ‘Share in a Florida elementary student’s Volunteer pride by wearing his design on your shirt too!’ They followed up confirming sales of the t-shirt had crashed their site, adding: ‘Thank you Vol Nation! Currently, our website has crashed due to the overwhelming support! We are working on the problem. Once the server restarts, we anticipate the issue to be resolved.’ The school also sent the schoolboy a package full of merchandise.

LIBERTARIAN: Milton Freedman — a libertarian?

FROM A FACEBOOK FELLOW ALUM:

*** begin quote ***

Robert Kuhn

Posting this for my friend and co-alum, FJohn Reinke. He knows more about this stuff than I do. I was surprised, and somewhat enlightened, by the content of this, as my opinion of economists has taken a sharp detour “south” (figuratively speaking) in recent years.

Another interesting sidelight based on the time line (if I am recollecting correctly): I believe my Dad studied Economics at Georgetown for a semester; possibly connected to his peripatetic NROTC existence. I will have to check with my Uncle Gene for verification (or the opposite) …

*** end quote ***

MY RESPONSE:

*** begin quote ***

As a fat old white guy injineer, I’m not an ekkynonomist by any means. This 7 minute clip is just full of “barbara streisand”. I’ll refer it to those more learned than I Tom Woods & The Tom Woods Show Elite for a laundry list of specifics.

I would point out that Milton Freedman may have started as libertarian with his position on the gold standard, but he turned to the dark side with his creation of “tax witholding” in my mind. He also is a champion of the Fed as the nation’s money manager. Clearly wrong.

I also almost spit out my coffee when the woman said that foreigners seek the “stable American dollar”. In case she hasn’t noticed, the dollar has lost 99% of its purchasing power while I’ve been alive. 2% inflation over 40 years has reduced the dollar to near zero in purchasing power. Think “penny candy”.

As one would expect from a Gooferment supported media outlet, it would seem that they are in a different world than we are. Leaving the Gold Standard for the Fed-standard, has allowed the Gooferment politicians and bureaucrats an unlimited checkbook to borrow and spend. Must to the detriment of “We, The Sheeple”!

*** end quote ***

He is often quoted in anti-Government memes like “If you put the federal government in charge of the Sahara Desert, in 5 years there’d be a shortage of sand.” and “Nothing is as permanent as a temporary government program.” and was for a free market economy in general.

However he did support the role of the FED in monetary policy.  Clearly not very “libertarian”.

Sigh!

Mo Brooks: ‘The Long-Term Strategy of the Democratic Party Is to Eliminate the Second Amendment’ | Breitbart

Saturday, September 7, 2019

Thursday during an appearance on Huntsville, AL radio’s WVNN, Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) argued that although House Democrats will likely pass a number of gun control bills that will not make it through the U.S. Senate, the long-term strategy was to get at the Second Amendment’s right to bear arms.

Pinkerton – AOC to Small States: Drop Dead (And What Small States Can Do to Stay Alive) | Breitbart

Friday, September 6, 2019

Perhaps even more importantly, it’s also worth emphasizing that the Electoral College was central to our constitutional founding; it was the brilliant political compromise that enabled the forming of a robust union in the first place.  You see, back in 1787, the small states, such as Delaware and Vermont, insisted on the College as the price for ratifying the Constitution and joining the union.  To put that another way, if it were not for the Electoral College, there might never have been a United States.  (As an aside, today, both Delaware and Vermont are strongly Democrat.)

Source: Pinkerton – AOC to Small States: Drop Dead (And What Small States Can Do to Stay Alive)  | Breitbart

# – # – # – # – #

The Dead Old White Guys knew the danger of democracy and “mob rule”.

Yes, the system is designed to quell the passions of the mob and the USA needs that now, more than ever.

I’d suggest that the small States need to push the repeal of the Seventeenth Amendment to restore the Founder’s vision of the American Republic.

As well as to oppose “direct democracy” where the “big States” will dominate.

Argh!

Texas Governor Upset Over Lack Of Background Check For Odessa Killer

Thursday, September 5, 2019

The rampage killing in Odessa, Texas marred what should have been a holiday weekend. It was also the second mass shooting within a month for the state of Texas. While Texas isn’t exactly a small state, that’s still got to be troubling for anyone in office there.

Source: Texas Governor Upset Over Lack Of Background Check For Odessa Killer

*** begin quote ***

Governor Greg Abbot noted that apparently, the killer didn’t undergo a background check for the weapon he used after previously failing a gun purchase background check.

*** end quote ***

# – # – # – # – #

Key word is “apparently”.

If it is true, and that may be a big if, then possibly it may need to be addressed.

Perhaps, all gun sales must be done or “mediated” by a licensed firearm dealer?

Perhaps, it’s such a rarity that it’s not worth the effort.

I saw that in Virginia, when someone fails a background check, the State police are called and interview the person.  In the case, I witnessed the person was a felon and was arrested on the spot.

Perhaps, reinforcing the existing response to a “disqualification” might suffice.

Fauxcahontas to Utility Companies Using Carbon-Based Fuel: ‘2035, You’re Done’

Thursday, September 5, 2019

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) declined to go as far as Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) in calling for the public ownership of utilities during CNN’s climate change town hall Wednesday evening, but she said she will tell utility companies that use carbon-based fuel that they are “done” by 2035.“Bernie Sanders has endorsed the idea of the public ownership of utilities, arguing that we can’t adequately solve this crisis without removing the profit motive from the distribution of essential needs like energy,” an attendee said.

Source: Warren to Utility Companies Using Carbon-Based Fuel: ‘2035, You’re Done’

Fauxcahontas, aka Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), is clueless about the economics of energy.  “We” could minimize carbon if we embraced nuclear power like France and Germany do.  But she just want to put us further under the Gooferment’s “thumb”.

IMHO Fauxcahontas is not a serious candidate because of her claim of being an Indian to advance her academic employment was basically dishonest.  So she’s an opportunist who can’t be trusted.

Patriotism Revisited, by Sean Gangol

Tuesday, September 3, 2019

When Donald Trump suggested that these women return to their countries of origin and fix the problems that plague those nations instead of trashing ours, people on the left called Trump a racist and xenophobe. Three out of four members of the Squad were born in the United States, so that does make Trump’s statement somewhat incorrect, when it comes to their countries of origin (except for Omar). Yet, I still don’t consider what Trump said to be racist or xenophobic or even all that unreasonable. These four women seem to have nothing but contempt for America and its values. I would say at the very least that these women have absolutely no business governing the very country they hate.

Stop saving your umbrella for a rainy day

Sunday, September 1, 2019

In Hong Kong, umbrellas are commonly used for sun protection (and a symbol of protest). (AP Photo/Kin Cheung/) Many of us apply sunscreen when we go to the beach. But walking outside under the fierce summer sun—even if it’s to run a quick errand—can be taxing: We sweat, we get exhausted, we burn and we expose ourselves to dangerous UV rays.

DOJ Declines to Prosecute James Comey for Leaking Classified Info

Thursday, August 29, 2019

The watchdog office said Comey broke FBI rules by giving a memo containing unclassified information to his friend Daniel Richman with instructions to share the contents with a reporter. The office also said Comey failed to notify the FBI after he was fired that he had retained some of the memos in a safe at home. Comey wrote a series of memos about conversations with President Trump he said unnerved him. Comey has stated he wanted to make a record of the interactions because he was concerned President Trump might later lie about them.

As humans continue to warm the planet, these foundational organisms will be lost to bleaching, in which warm temperatures lead corals to eject their zooxanthellae; the bleached corals are left vulnerable to disease and stress and sometimes die as a result.

Great article about a great piece of innovative work.

Well worth the read.

The writer unfortunately puts in the opinion that there is “global warming” and it’s caused by humans.

Both “facts” are arguable.

I would have rather seen the writer focus on how the reader could help.  For example, does the urchin deploying center take donations?  Is there a gofundme page to spin off a similar effort in a different country?  How can people support this effort?

But, everything has to have a political spin to it.

Sigh!

ADMINISTRIVIA: Google site specific search results may be unreliable

So today I did a Google Search on “DeLorenzo” site:jasperjottings.com and it didn’t find anything.

But I also did a search locally on my Marsedit blog posting tool and I was shocked to find a result!
