On Tuesday, the Supreme Court heard arguments concerning the City of Boston’s refusal to allow a private organization to fly a Christian flag on a flagpole next to City Hall that was routinely made available to any private organization that applied to do so.  The case is Shurtleff v. City of Boston.

The conservative Justices seemed likely to rule against the City.  Justice Gorsuch pointed out that the City was “treat[ing] religious viewpoints the equivalent of offensive or inappropriate ones.”  Justice Thomas reacted to the City of Boston’s claim that it was celebrating diversity by allowing other nations’ flags to fly by pointing out, “it would seem to me that Christians in Boston would be a part of that diversity calculus.”

Even Justice Kagan suggested that “this was a mistake” by the Boston bureaucrat who denied the application.  She wondered why the City had not settled the case with the plaintiffs.

These and other statements suggest that the Court isn’t buying Boston’s arguments.  Hopefully that proves to be true when the Supreme Court’s decision is issued.  For too long, too many government bureaucrats have been hostile to Christianity and its symbols.  A victory in this case for the plaintiffs would do much to reverse that trend.

While I have no real problem with SCOTUS smacking down the Boston bureaucrats, I wonder why the flag pole is there at all.

It serves no legitimate public purpose other than making work for the politicians and bureaucrats.

Also, I don’t think Churches should fly the Gooferment’s flag EVER.

In the old days, “the Church” was a power that kept the King in check.  Today, it’s like a rubber stamp for the Gooferment.

We need more protection from the tyranny of the Big Deep State and its politicians and bureaucrats.

Exhausted from the political responses to COVID offering just ever-increasing restrictions, suffering economically, isolated by the lockdowns, frightened and dismayed by the prospect of a universal vaccine mandate, Laroche’s call is resonating with Austrians eager to join in.

Weekly, on Wednesday evenings since the end of November, all over Austria people have started to gather in public to pray the rosary together as part of the Austria Prays initiative. The call is simple while also profound: “Pray for Austria!” every Wednesday night, in public, as a flyer explains, “so that our country, that is currently in one of the most serious crises in its history, will be entrusted to the Mother of God, and to ask for her intercession for all citizens.”

MLK, echoing Ghandi, gave us the key to resistance to tyranny.  Peace quiet non-cooperation.  (Like 4 years old Daniel has taught me, no one can make ANYONE do what they don’t want to do.  They can only hurt or kill you.  They still won’t do what you want.)

I’d like to see more peaceful resistance to tyranny.

An elderly Brooklyn couple was booted from an American Airlines flight because they refused to place a bag containing their sacred prayer shawl on the floor, according to a lawsuit.

Roberto and Elana Birman were heading home from Miami on Flight 322 in August when the “humiliating” incident unfolded, they told The Post.

Roberto, 76, and Elana, 71, brought only a briefcase, a purse and his Tallit bag — a small, 8.5 inch-by-8.5-inch, clear plastic carrier for Roberto’s prayer book and shawl — onboard. They sat in aisle seats across from each other.

A flight attendant began checking overhead bins ahead of take off, pulled the Tallit bag from the overhead bin, and asked, “Whose is this?”

When Roberto claimed it, she allegedly threw the bag on his lap and said it had to go under his seat, the couple said.

“It’s a religious item, it cannot go under the seat,” Roberto explained, removing his baseball cap to reveal his kippah covering his head and explaining that as an Orthodox Jew, he is forbidden to place the precious shawl on the floor.

I’m personally offended.  Wish I could have been his seat mate.  He should have said “it’s a Koran” and I bet the response would have been different.

Did American Airlines take any action?

Maybe business travelers with lots of American Airlines should print this story and write a little note to the American Airlines CEO.

A Rutgers gender studies professor gave an interview in which she asserted that “white people are committed to being villains,” and, “we gotta take these motherfuckers out!” 

Yes, really.

“Dr. Brittney Cooper, a professor in the Rutgers Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies department that goes by the Twitter moniker “ProfessorCrunk,” appeared on a September YouTube interview with writer Michael Harriot of The Root to discuss Critical Race Theory and recent attempts to oppose it being taught in elementary and high schools,” reports the College Fix.

During an outburst about white people fearing retribution if they give up power to blacks, Cooper made it clear what needed to happen for whites to relinquish control.

“The thing I want to say to you is that we gotta take these motherfuckers out, but like, we can’t say that, right?,” Cooper screeched.

Why is any on my tax money being spent at Rutgers at all?

On Saturday a Catholic prayer event in front of the St. Louis statue in Missouri was interrupted by Black Lives Matter protesters. Violence broke out at the event as Black Lives Matter members attacked participants of the prayer event.

Clearly, this is unacceptable in the USA.

Not that she can NOT have racist views.  But she can’t overtly threaten to harm people.

For that reason alone, she should lose her medical license.

She can always do pharma sales calling on only Jewish doctors?

Maggie Anderson drives 14 miles to buy groceries, which might seem curious given that she lives in bustling Oak Park. She and her husband, John, patronize gas stations in Rockford and Phoenix, Ill. They travel 18 miles to a health food store in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood for vitamins, supplements and personal care products.

The reason? They want to solve what they call “the crisis in the black community.” They want to, as they say, “buy black.”

The Andersons, African-Americans who rose from humble means, are attempting to spend their money for one year exclusively with black-owned businesses and are encouraging other African-Americans to do the same. It is part experiment, part social activism campaign.

Well, if a “white” (What does that label mean?) did that, they’d call it racism.

And, it’s inefficient. 14 miles times 2 / 20 miles per gallon times 2 bucks per gallon means that they are paying a $2 dollar “black tax” on every grocery order. That two bucks could by something they could use. (A can of tuna for when prices soar in the coming inflation! Int heir children’s college fund

And, harmful. When they decide to discard this experiment, the business will be hurt. They will have had a years experience making more and when it stops, they will be confused and worse off. Heaven help them, if the decided to “expand” or otherwise count on this “new business”.

Now even a stopped clock is right twice a day. And, the beauty of America is that you can do that “pursuit of happiness” stuff however you want. But, don’t go into the media seeking sainthood.

DIdn’t Martin Luther King WANT to patronize those white-only lunch counters? I’m sure it wasn’t for the food. It was the principle.

Nope, racism is wrong. For the principle it violates. “All men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights.”

Among these is the right to be a fool!
