Can, Bottle or Draft: Which Beer Tastes Better?
- What you drink your beer out of has an impact on its flavor
By Mike Dunphy
July 11, 2024 12:06 pm
*** begin quote ***
The same phenomenon happens in the beer world, when enthusiasts deliver passionate panegyrics and firm convictions on the superiority of beer in a can, bottle or keg. Subjectivity keeps the debate ongoing, but chemistry and fermentology — alongside a bevy of other packaging factors — do have something to say about it and may challenge your beliefs. Here’s what really makes the difference in the flavor of your beer when it comes to the can, bottle or draft debate.
Packaging vs. Freshness
Just as an artifact uncovered by an archaeologist immediately begins to degrade in the open air and sun, so too does beer the moment it leaves the mother tank and funnels into cans, bottles and kegs. By and large, these chemical changes are not welcome, and preserving the freshness and flavor of beer depends a lot on keeping out the culprits.
The most dangerous element is oxygen, explains Chuck Skypeck, technical brewing projects director for the Brewers Association. “The way that beer arrives at its best state to the consumer is about the brewer’s ability to put their beer into that package with a minimum amount of exposure to oxygen,” Skypeck explains. Oxygen impacts the flavor by essentially turning compounds in the beer into other, less desirable compounds that dull flavor and make beer taste stale. Oxygen gets many access points, too, in the path from source tank to consumer. Not only do you have to move beer between tanks during production, potentially exposing it to air, you also have to open the container to put beer in it. Bottles and cans can be damaged on the production line, or a pump seal might leak, too — again putting the onus on the brewer’s skill, system and equipment.
*** end quote ***
But the question is never answered. So I assume that all three are equivalent all other factors being equal. So you’re on your own and have to rely on your own taste buds.
FWIW YMMV faiwwypfi (Free Advice Is Worth What You Pay For It! ? zero?)

My emails with the County Executive’s office of Santa Clara County
- These people need to be held accountable for their decision to look the other way when confronted with evidence of public harm. If you live in Santa Clara County, please share your thoughts with them.
Steve Kirsch — Jul 13, 2024
*** begin quote ***
I had a discussion with the Director, Civic and Community Engagement of Santa Clara County whom I was referred to when I attempted to ask for a meeting with the County Executive.
Here’s the tl;dr:
“The Santa Clara County Public Health Department isn’t interested in answering any questions about malfeasance regarding their data and we’re not interested in the answer either.
We don’t give a shit that people were injured or killed as a result of the public health recommendations so we’re not going to answer any more of your questions.
Have a nice day. Goodbye.”
This is an unacceptable response and I’m not going to let them get away with it. I plan to hold them accountable for their actions. All legal of course!

It’s time that Gooferment bureaucrats were held accountable for being non-responsive.
The Gooferment politician in charge should fire them. If they refuse or can’t, then they should be cvoted out of office.
I bet that this only has to be done a few times to correct bad behavior.

Coast Guard rescues blind hiker, guide dog stranded on sweltering hiking trail for days
By Stepheny Price, Fox News

*** begin quote ***
A blind hiker and his guide dog are safe after being rescued by a US Coast Guard helicopter crew when they became stranded for days in the heat on an Oregon hiking trail.
The US Coast Guard Pacific Northwest announced an aircrew had rescued a 55-year-old man and his dog from the Rogue River Trail in southwest Oregon.
The hiker, who officials said is legally blind, began hiking the trail with a friend and his guide dog July 3 and began to show symptoms of heat exhaustion July 6.
Officials said that, due to lack of cellphone service, the friend left the unidentified man and his dog with food and water and headed toward Gold Beach to call 911.

Didn’t they have an Apple phone with satellite capability or a satellite phone? Guess not. Who pays for the rescue?
Sigh! The taxpayer.

Authorities Are Literally Losing Control Of The Streets As America’s Societal Collapse Accelerates
by Tyler Durden
Tuesday, Jul 09, 2024 – 01:25 PM
Authored by Michael Snyder via The Economic Collapse blog,
*** begin quote ***
In a civilized society, authorities are able to maintain at least a basic level of law and order in the streets most of the time. Unfortunately, at this point it is up for debate whether the United States is still a “civilized society” or not. The chaos in our streets never seems to end, and those that are in charge of running things don’t seem to be able to regain control. The theft, violence and mayhem that we are witnessing in our major cities is being fueled by the worst homelessness crisis in our entire history, the worst drug crisis in our entire history, and the worst migration crisis in our entire history. If authorities cannot control our streets now, what is going to happen once our societal collapse reaches a much more advanced stage?
*** end quote ***
Over and over, the same story. Laws not enforced. Criminals not sentenced for violent crimes. “Juveniles” not prosecuted as adults. Bad behavior is tolerated or ignored.
Argh!

Boston is getting more speed humps. A LOT more.
The humps themselves are about three inches high and about 12 to 14 feet long. Cars can smoothly travel over them at 20 miles per hour or slower.
By Molly Farrar — July 11, 2024
*** begin quote ***
A speed hump could be coming to a street in your neighborhood soon, as the city unrolls a years-long effort to promote traffic safety.
The City of Boston will install more than 2,000 of the humps, as part of “Safety Surge,” which began in October. The City plans to have installed more than 400 humps by the end of July.
*** and ***
More humps are planned for Mission Hill and Allston-Brighton. According to the city’s website, there will be no opportunity for resident feedback, but residents will be notified before a speed hump is built on their street.
*** end quote ***
I wonder if the elite are getting speed bumps like it or not?
Somehow I suspect not.
And, I guess all the potholes have already been filled?
Yet, another example of Gooferment arrogance.

I have my own set of questions.
- How was a rooftop clear for a shooter to take up a position?
- Why wasn’t the shooter stopped by the cop that spotted him?
- Did the good guy sniper delay taking the shot that killed the “bad guy”?
- The “bad guy” was reputed to be a “bad shot”; so how did he get off nine rounds and kill one bystander?
- Why was DJT so exposed on the dais — no bulletproof glass in front of him?

Home Invasion Illustrates Why Gun Control Is Stupid
By Tom Knighton | 2:29 PM | July 11, 2024
*** begin quote ***
They took the money and pistol-whipped the victim and are currently at-large.
Now, either this gentleman didn’t have a firearm or couldn’t get to it in time, so it didn’t turn into a defensive gun use. However, let’s say, for the sake of argument, that he did.
Do you think one shot would have ended the threat? There were four of them. According to this report, all four were armed.
*** end quote ***
In out forefathers’ days, “home invasion” was unheard of. Crime came with a chance of death.
“An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.” — Robert A. Heinlein
So too, a “home invasion” should have a high probability of “return fire”.
There’s is no excuse for the Gooferment promising “protection” and enforcing disarming victims.
“No law ever written has stopped any robber, rapist or killer, like cold blue steel in the hands of their last intended victim.” —W. Emerson Wright
“Victim disarmament is the view that it is somehow better to see a woman raped in an alley and strangled with her own pantyhose, than see her with a gun in her hand.” — T.D. Melrose
“God made men and women; Sam Colt made them equal.” — Unknown
Too many criminals; need every citizen to be armed.

Media GAsLighting on Biden and Ukraine; Plus, Belated SPIEF 2024 Video
5 July 2024 by Larry Johnson
*** begin quote ***
It dawned on me today (okay, I’m a little slow on the uptake) that the legacy media is using the same gaslighting technique in reporting on Joe Biden and the War in Ukraine.
The term “gaslighting” comes from the 1938 play Angel Street, which was later adapted into the film Gaslight, in which a man tries to convince his wife that she is going insane so he can steal from her. When he turns on the lights in the attic to search for her jewelry collection, and the gas lights dim downstairs, he tells her it’s all in her imagination. Gradually she begins to question her own memories and perceptions.
The legacy media’s repeated insistence over the last two years that Ukraine was whooping the tar out of Russia on the battlefield, is the same tactic as the media’s claims that Joe Biden is a certifiable jeopardy candidate who could run circles around Albert Einstein were he still with us. Both messages are designed to bamboozle the public. But it is a failed tactic once visual, certifiable facts are on display and can no longer be dismissed as “conspiracy theories.”
Gaslighting is both a political tactic and technique designed to persuade you that you did not see nor hear what you saw and heard. Tonight’s interview on ABC of Joe Biden by Clinton protege, George Stephanopoulos, is a departure from the gaslighting and represents, instead, Biden’s last chance to persuade top Democrat officials and donors that last Thursday’s debate debacle was an aberration. It was not. Biden failed the test. The Democrats wanted it done on Friday night because it is not a big TV ratings night and any stumbles by Biden would be less damaging than if he did a full public melt-down in Prime Time like last Thursday’s debate.
*** end quote ***
Finally have a good definition of what is being done to “We, The Sheeple”!

The beginning of this movie should be required watching BEFORE anyone gets a personal computer.
The ‘nice old lady” gets scammed out of everything she has by calling in after a pop up on her computer. Been there getting pop ups, spam emails, and whatever.
Lesson Number 1 is have yourself some “tech support” relative. Or at least, don’t trust anyone online.
The lady has a flash of insight to call her bank but gets talked out it when the nice man on the phone says “he’ll lose his job.”
The rest of the movie is mission impossible type hokum but enjoyable to see the “bad guys” get karma visited upon them.
All in all, the part about scammers is very believable and should serve as a warning to all computer Users.

FROM 1440 NEWS
Good headline but text “Russian missile barrage” was bad. Could it have been a false flag? Remember Ukraine shot a missile into Poland and blamed Russia. The timing is too convenient and the Russians have been extremely careful about what they hit and very circumspect about firing back.
I’d say the facts are not yet fully known to assign blame.
IMHO
# – # – # – # – #
Missiles Strike Ukraine
At least 36 civilians were killed and more than 100 wounded across Ukraine after a Russian missile barrage hit multiple targets yesterday, including the country’s largest children’s hospital in the capital of Kyiv. The daytime attack is considered the heaviest single-day bombardment in the last four months of the Russia-Ukraine war, which is now in its 29th month (see updates).
Ukraine’s air defenses shot down 30 of the 38 missiles, with officials saying the weapons consisted of aerial, ballistic, and cruise missiles (see the difference). At least 50 civilian buildings were damaged across central and eastern Ukraine by Russia’s airstrikes. The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting today to address the strikes.
Russia’s latest attack comes as Western leaders will meet in Washington, DC, today to kick off a three-day NATO summit. The agenda includes discussions over Ukraine’s potential membership in the military alliance and a new support package.

Ukraine Bombs Its Own Children’s Hospital and British Journal Says Palestinian Death Toll is Astronomical
8 July 2024 by Larry Johnson
*** begin quote ***
This is a ten on both the hypocrisy and propaganda scales. Check it for yourself. Do an internet search on the following — “Ukraine strikes Sevastopol.” Only cursory coverage. No blaring headlines in the NY Times or Financial Times or any other major paper. Ignore it. But this? Intense coverage.
Only one problem with the story — it is BULLSHIT. The children’s hospital was hit by an errant air defense missile fired by Ukraine. Whoops! What is really telling is that there was ZERO news coverage of the other sites hit by Russian missiles in Kiev. You know why? Because they were military targets and there were probably Western casualties. Russia delivered this blow in daylight during working hours in order to inflict maximum casualties on those engaged in producing or repairing weapons.
Ukrainian authorities also lied about the number of Russian missiles shot down. The Ukie Air Force claimed it downed 30 of 38 Russian missiles. Check out the following videos. You can see at least five successful Russian missile strikes in Kiev, including some secondary explosions, which normally are associated with a weapons storage facility. (We’ll see how long YouTube allows the first video to stay online. I will also post on BitChute.)

“Needless to say I called my doctor and was told to get to the emergency room immediately” — Apple’s cheapest Watch just saved another life
By Stephen Warwick
- You don’t need the best to stay safe.
*** begin quote ***
Apple’s cheapest wearable has just been credited with saving another life, proving you don’t have to buy the best Apple Watch on the market to benefit from life-saving tech yet again.
User V3N0M0US83 took to the Apple Watch Subreddit this week and revealed “Apple Watch saved my life this past weekend.” “I have an SE 2 and Thursday my watch had gone off saying my heart rate was above 120 bpm,” they explained. The user ignored the alerts “as I didn’t feel any discomfort,” but got two more heart rate alerts while sitting at the kitchen table the following day.
“I opened the heart rate app and my bpm was at 161 while resting.” The user’s girlfriend, a medical assistant in training, gave their heart a listen with a stethoscope “and said my heart was beating out of my chest.” Turns out, they needed life-saving treatment.
*** end quote ***
My afib was detected by my apple watch and the cardiologist didn’t believe it. The episode evidently was intermittent. He wired me up with 73 hour monitor. Then next day he called me into the office and started me on a drug regimen.
It was afib.
Even on drugs I get a warning that the “afib is less than 2%”. He says that is ok, but don’t stop the medicine or lose the watch.
So, it doesn’t have to be the best apple watch to get this feature, but it could save your life. Afib causes heart attacks, strokes, and all sorts of other “lesser problems”. It’s a cheap tool. And, I can confirm the efficacy of it.
YMMV but I am a believer.

Thousands of homeowners are about to get slammed with higher monthly payments
By Samantha Delouya, CNN

Andrew Marquis, a loan officer in Lexington, Massachusetts, said he has recently seen a dramatic increase in ARM loan applications. Homebuyers increasingly believe that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates in the next few years, giving these buyers time to refinance their loans before the clock on the fixed period of their ARM runs out, he said. The Fed doesn’t directly set mortgage rates, but its actions influence them. This year, the Federal Reserve has signaled that it may possibly cut its benchmark interest rate one time.
*** end quote ***
I guess no one learned anything from the 2008 Housing bubble.
If you need an adjustable rate mortgage to afford the house, that’s a red flag that you can’t afford it.
If the max increase is more than you can afford, then you are rolling the dice. If the professionals knew what the interest rates would be, they could make a fortune in the options market. Instead they are selling you mortgages.
For the average Joe Six-Pack, 30 year fixed is still the best buy; unless you can afford a 15 year fixed.
Argh!

James Clapper, Mr. October Surprise: How Obama’s Intel Czar Rigged 2016 and 2020 Debates Against Trump
By Paul Sperry, RealClearInvestigations
June 26, 2024
*** begin quote ***
- With President Obama’s blessing, Clapper dropped an unprecedented “intelligence advisory” just before Hillary Clinton’s Oct. 9, 2016 debate with Trump that the Democratic nominee pounced upon to suggest he was a Russian lackey.
- In 2020, just three days before Biden and Trump debated, Clapper was the lead signatory on the “intelligence” statement that discredited the New York Post’s October bombshell exposing emails from Hunter Biden’s laptop; they documented how Hunter’s corrupt Ukrainian paymasters had met with Joe Biden when he was vice president.
- Former deputy CIA Director Mike Morell, a Clapper confidant and one of the 51 signatories of the letter, testified that one of the goals in releasing the letter “was to help then-Vice President Biden in the debate.”
- The phony laptop letter actually helped Biden seal his narrow victory, since many of his voters in the close election told pollsters they would have had second thoughts about backing him if they had known of damning materials contradicting his denials that he knew anything about his son’s shady foreign dealings.
- Sperry also relates how CNN’s Jake Tapper, a moderator at this week’s Trump-Biden presidential debate, served as a key conduit for Clapper’s leaks, including about the so-called Steele dossier, which sent the Trump-Russia hoax into media overdrive for years. Tapper has offered no apology for his partisan water-carrying.
*** end quote ***
Thanks to the NY POST, we all knew that Hunter Biden’s laptop was authentic. Yet, the Deep State, the Obamas, and Big Media / Big Internet buried the truth.
It was well identified as Conspiracy Theory. Prover true.
And the American Sheeple bought it hook, line, and sinker.
So now that we know it’s true “heritage”, who goes to jail.

Bizarre moment lawyer is kicked off Avianca flight from Colombia to LA after seat he had purchased three months prior was sold to a mother flying with two children
By Adriano Torres, Dailymail.com

*** begin quote ***
A lawyer held up a flight for almost an hour after he discovered that the airlines company Avianca had overbooked his seat.
The passenger, who identified himself as Juan Manuel in a recent video chat with the TikToker who filmed the incident, had purchased a roundtrip fare from Bogotá, Colombia, to Los Angeles before he was shocked to find out that there was a child sitting in his seat.
Manuel recalled arriving two and a half hours ahead of his trip at El Dorado International Airport for the first leg of his journey, before making a connection in El Salvador.
*** end quote ***
This is far from uncommon. In this day of technology, we were better off when the airlines did manual seat assignment with peel off stickers. Yes, I am that old. When you should up to the gate, you got your sticker assigning the seat. When they ran out of stickers, you were out of luck. Never heard of any problems.

Time to Become a Hindu by Jeff Thomas
*** begin quote ***
For centuries, East Indians have regarded gold as the primary source of wealth. All Indians own gold if they can afford to. They keep it as close as possible, sometimes in coin form, but often as jewellery, since “wearing wealth” means that it can be kept very close. They’re often especially reluctant to trust banks to hold their gold.
Hindus make up 80% of India’s population and, to Hindus, gold is sacred. Lakshmi (pictured above) is the Hindu goddess of purity, prosperity and good fortune. Her symbol is gold, so gold plays an important part in Hindu ceremonial occasions and Hindus donate large amounts of gold to the temples in Lakshmi’s name.
In recent years, the Indian government has tried one ploy after another to gain control of the temples’ gold. The most recent ploy was a programme whereby the temples could deposit the parishioners’ gifts to Lakshmi in banks. The gold would then be melted down and the temples would be given cash in an amount that would exceed the value of the gold.

As every Indian – even those of limited means – understands, the greatest protection from such looting by governments is to liquidate assets and convert the proceeds into precious metals.
It’s unlikely that the average westerner will become a Hindu, but, if he’s wise, he’ll acquire his own personal Lakshmi in the form of precious metals storage and he’ll do so outside of his home jurisdiction, in order to have even greater insurance against confiscation.

FDR’s diktat robbed Americans of their gold and their freedom at the same time. Time to take both back!

‘Enshittification’ is coming for absolutely everything
The term describes the slow decay of online platforms such as Facebook. But what if we’ve entered the ‘enshittocene’?
Cory Doctorow — February 8 2024
*** begin quote ***
Last year, I coined the term “enshittification” to describe the way that platforms decay. That obscene little word did big numbers; it really hit the zeitgeist.
The American Dialect Society made it its Word of the Year for 2023 (which, I suppose, means that now I’m definitely getting a poop emoji on my tombstone).
So what’s enshittification and why did it catch fire? It’s my theory explaining how the internet was colonised by platforms, why all those platforms are degrading so quickly and thoroughly, why it matters and what we can do about it. We’re all living through a great enshittening, in which the services that matter to us, that we rely on, are turning into giant piles of shit. It’s frustrating. It’s demoralising. It’s even terrifying.
I think that the enshittification framework goes a long way to explaining it, moving us out of the mysterious realm of the “great forces of history”, and into the material world of specific decisions made by real people; decisions we can reverse and people whose names and pitchfork sizes we can learn.
Enshittification names the problem and proposes a solution. It’s not just a way to say “things are getting worse”, though, of course, it’s fine with me if you want to use it that way.

AKA ENTROPY?
Just as things like uranium moves to lead, so to do all human systems.
Decay and death.
Sigh!

WAYNE ROOT: The Important Question Isn’t “Who is Replacing Biden?” The Life & Death Question We Should All Be Asking Is, “Who Is Running Our Country?”
by Assistant Editor Jul. 1, 2024 8:30 am
*** begin quote ***
First and foremost, “Who is running the country?”
That’s the question of the century. We now know it isn’t Joe Biden. It was never Joe. So, who is minding the store? Who has run the country for the past four years? Who is running the country right now? Who is making life and death decisions that affect the lives of every American?
Who is running our economy? Who is protecting our Homeland? Who is commanding our military? Who makes decisions about WW3? What if Russia or China attack tomorrow? Who is in charge?
Who has their finger on the nuclear button? Who will respond to a terrorist attack?
Who made the decision to leave our border wide open, and welcome in tens of millions of illegal alien foreign invaders? Who benefits from that decision?
Who decided to persecute Trump and rig trials against him?
Who made the decision to use the DOJ and FBI to persecute the J6ers and torture them in prison?
Who made the decision to force-vaccinate every employee in America through the OSHA mandate? Has Big Pharma bribed the whole government? Does Big Pharma run the FDA and CDC?
And if my prediction has been right from day one…and it’s always been Barack Obama giving the orders, making the decisions, and running the country as the de facto President of the United States…
We have an unelected, unConstitutional, “Manchurian Candidate” running America.
*** end quote ***
I agree that this is the MOST important question!
We know that Woodrow Wilson and FDR were infirm at the end of their terms and that wives were running things or were at least thought to be running things.
Time for a Constitution amendment establishing an upper age limit for politicians and bureaucrats.
I’d suggest that it’s the Social Security full-benefits retirement age! In addition to term-limits for every elective office.
Argh!

Time to Leave the Casino?
22 June 2024
By Jerry Stickman
*** begin quote ***
Over the years, there have been different versions of “man on the street” interviews. Typically, someone would ask a random person on the street a general question. This was done to get a feeling for what the general public felt about a topic.
I tried this in a few local casinos. Curious about what the average casino gambler felt about different aspects of casino gambling, I took the questions directly to them. I asked each of the gamblers several questions. This article covers the second question I asked them on the casino floor.
The question this time was “When is it time for you to quit gambling and leave the casino?”
*** end quote ***
Other than one time, she never went “broke”; that was the second time we went. After that she developed her “envelope system”. The same one she used for household expense just translated to gambling. After that disastrous trip, where we ran out by Tuesday, got a refill, and by leaving time on Saturday we were able replace the fill and was substantially ahead, it was time for a better system. She loved to gamble but hated to lose.
After that “lesson”, she would divide the gambling money into three envelopes per day — morning, afternoon, and night. If we tapped out during a session, that was it and we went and did something else. Otherwise, we’d put what was left back in the envelope and go to the next envelope. The morning we were leaving, she’s consolidate all the envelopes, return the original stake to an envelope for the next trip, and split the winnings. She was usually always very lucky; me not so much.
When people asked her why she continued to split with her “loser” spouse, she would always quickly reply: “I know the day I stop splitting, he’ll his the lottery for millions.”
I never did hit anything big, but she never stopped splitting.
Miss those good trips every time I see a casino advertisement.
