It’s Time To Take Seriously Teachers’ Refusal To Teach

Thursday, February 4, 2021

In Democrat-run cities across America, teachers are demanding priority access to vaccines and refusing to return to their classrooms. The big fights are in Chicago, Montclair (New Jersey), and California, where the teachers are insisting on working only from home.

Conservatives rightly resent what’s happening. They support getting teachers back to work but I’d like to suggest a different approach: Shut down the public schools in these cities, give parents vouchers, and let the free market do its magic.

Military names can echo down through the ages, a fact underlined by the current fight in Washington, D.C., between President Trump and Congress, which has voted to strip the names of Confederate generals from several Southern Army bases.

The president has vowed that won’t happen, but the battle might not be resolved before Election Day.

The Navy, meanwhile, has quietly charted a new course. A supercarrier now on the drawing boards will be christened the USS Doris Miller.

It’s the first supercarrier to be named for an enlisted sailor and the first to be named after an African American.

I “knew” some of the story from high school history but never knew the man’s name.

Hopefully this is something that the children learn in school.

Requiescat In Pacem Dorie.
