A Hunt for Clues in Hawaii After a Tourist Couple Falls Ill With Coronavirus – Internewscast

Sunday, February 16, 2020

Aubree Gordon, an associate professor of epidemiology at the University of Michigan, said she agreed with Hawaiian health officials that people who had traveled with the man were at greatest risk, though anyone who touched surfaces shortly after he did — such as a faucet or toilet handle — could also be at risk.

INTERESTING: Is Political Change Coming To China?

Saturday, February 15, 2020

Authored by Yuen Yuen Ang via Project Syndicate, In contemporary China, profound political transformation can – and has – taken place in the absence of regime change or Western-style democratization. The starkest example is the period of “reform and opening” that began in 1978 under Deng Xiaoping’s charge.

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: Government agents seized $181,500 in cash at airport and won’t give it back | FOX 5 New York

The lawsuit says an agent gave Nulman a receipt to document the $181,500, but the federal agencies now say only $159,950 was confiscated. That’s $21,550 less than what the company says was seized.

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: The next progressive threat from Albany: Universal rent control

Thursday, February 13, 2020

This new legislation is guaranteed to prompt rapid deterioration in buildings that are now high-quality, by forcing landlords to cut their spending on maintenance and repairs.

“In many cases rent control appears to be the most efficient technique presently known to destroy a city—except for bombing.” — Assar Lindbeck

It’s hard to underestimate the arrogance and stupidity of politicians and bureaucrats.  BUT, then they go and “exceed expectations” to the downside.

I can’t image the logic that ignores the history of “rent control” and it’s impact on the housing market.

Maybe it’s time for a NY-Exit, like BREXIT, but for the states that are unsalvageable.

TECHNOLOGY: Bring Drug Dispensing Into the Modern Age With Vending Machines | Cato @ Liberty

Tuesday, February 11, 2020

The technology has been around for a while. Vending machines have dispensed Plan B emergency oral contraceptive—the so‐called “morning after pill”—on college campuses since at least 2017. Arizona State University and Florida State University installed pharmaceutical vending machines to dispense a wide range of drugs in their Student Health Services buildings back in 2014.

POLITICAL: Progressive Hell, by Sean Gangol

Monday, February 10, 2020

The local governments in both LA and San Francisco have experienced an increase in homeless people using their sidewalks as their campgrounds. This has led to an increase of sidewalks and streets being contaminated with human feces and used syringes. So, what is the solution offered by their noble leaders? To do nothing. Absolutely nothing.

SECURITY: Don’t Get ‘Juice Jacked’ While Recharging In Public

Sunday, February 9, 2020

Do you plug your phone into free public charging stations? Be careful! According to NBC News , you may get ‘juice jacked’ by hackers who have installed malware that can tunnel and copy your sensitive personal information! Cybersecurity expert Jim Stickley demonstrates how a hacker could access a person’s phone through a public charging station.NBC News “Depending on the vulnerability they exploit, they would have access to everything you would have access to on your phone,” according to cybersecurity expert Jim Stickley.

Colorado boy dies of flu after mom took Facebook anti-vax group tips

I think it’s reasonable to be afraid and concerned about the safety of vaccines. If they were “perfectly safe”, then there would be no need for a Federal Gooferment program — National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program! https://www.hrsa.gov/vaccine-compensation/index.html

That being said, I think it’s unreasonable to rely on a facebook group for medical advice. Argh! At least, “Doctor Google” provides lots of dikw (i.e., data, information, knowledge, wisdom) that you can study and form your “own” opinions.

Personally, I rely on doctors to give me their “best guess” on health issues. It’s still an art; not a science. And, their “best guess” is much better than mine.

I think I have to be an “intelligent consumer” of medical services. That means, don’t follow blindly. But ask questions and observe results and evidence. That’s why I try you follow the advice of Michael Greger at https://nutritionfacts.org/. He features evidence for his advice.

As with all my ravings and rantings in life and this blog, YMMV!

Ohio man lives in underground house he built 40 years ago

Friday, February 7, 2020

The underground home is also naturally protected from extreme weather and temperature variations — and it cost less to insure. Residences like this can, however, be more expensive to build and more difficult to get a mortgage for. That’s why Scherbauer opted to design and build the home himself: to keep construction costs low.

Source: Ohio man lives in underground house he built 40 years ago

# – # – # – # – #

It would seem that “hobbit houses” like this would be a “green trend”?

Like the tiny house movement, plastic bottle houses, and straw bale houses, humanity needs to reimagine “housing”.  The need for suburban “ticky tacky (stick) houses all in a row” is waning with the graying of the population.  McMansions, in my area, are for multigenerational immigrant families who have grandparents, parents, and children under one roof, just like their “old country”.

The current “home inventory” looks like a massive malinvestment now!

Bad Law – The Burning Platform

Thursday, February 6, 2020

Guest Post by John Stossel

*** begin quote ***

A law in South Carolina bans playing pinball if you’re under 18. That’s just one of America’s many ridiculous laws restricting freedom.

“There is a role for the government in keeping people safe from actual criminals, people who commit murder, robbery,” says Rafael Mangual, a “tough-on-crime” guy at the Manhattan Institute.

“But a lot of laws don’t keep people safe,” he says. “There’s a federal prohibition on walking a dog on a leash longer than six feet on federal property. It is a jailable offense.”

Gun Seizures Could Lead to Civil War

Gun Seizures Could Lead to Civil War
by James Bovard

February 3, 2020

“Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15,” declared “Beto” O’Rourke at a Democratic party presidential candidate debate in September. Compelling Americans to surrender their so-called assault weapons is “the newest purity test” for Democratic presidential candidates, according to the Washington Post. O’Rourke and other Democratic presidential candidates, including Cory Booker, Kristin Gillibrand, and Bill de Blasio (now withdrawn from the race, as are Gillibrand and O’Rourke) have all endorsed mandatory buy-backs of assault weapons. Though such proposals are momentarily politically profitable, they could start a cascade of public-policy dominoes that ends in civil war.

# – # – # – # – #

As much as I deplore violence and, as a pro-lifer, the deaths that will come from another “civil war”, certain rights are worth fighting for.

The RIGHT to keep and bear arms, enshrined in the Constitution, is all that keeps the Gooferment in check.

Classic example is the trains loaded for the Nazi death camps were preceded by the disarming the sheep by the Weimar “republic”. “And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? . . .” — Alexander Solzhenitsyn

For all those, who say “We, The Sheeple” can not stand up to the Gooferment in an armed rebellion, I point to Afghanistan where the locals armed with 1900’s vintage rifles defeated the English, Russians, and the USA. When you’re fighting for the “homeland” and you can blend in with the local population, that represents a new generation of asymmetrical warfare. Conventional generals fighting the last war can’t possibly win.

While I pray for the peaceful separation of the USA, just like the USSR, I KNOW that any attempt to disarm “We, The Sheeple” will result in bloodshed.

“From my cold dead hands” is more than a bumpersticker. But it does summarize how gun owners and patriots feel. “Give me liberty or give me death.”

Remember Churchill’s quote: “…if you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.” -Churchill, The Second World War, vol. 1, The Gathering Storm (London: Cassell, 1948, 272, on the British guarantee to Poland in Spring 1939.

Bloomberg’s Super Bowl ad called ‘wildly misleading’, NRA says it left out ‘salient facts’

Monday, February 3, 2020

Screen shot form Bloomberg’s controversial Super Bowl ad Democrat presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg’s $10 million anti-gun ad that aired during the Super Bowl made false claims about child gun deaths and falsely suggested that the victim highlighted in the commercial was a child when he was tragically killed.

Source: Bloomberg’s Super Bowl ad called ‘wildly misleading’, NRA says it left out ‘salient facts’

*** begin quote ***

The one-minute ad features Calandrian Simpson Kemp talking about the loss of her son, George Kemp, who was killed in a shooting in 2013. It showed childhood pictures of him, but none of him as the 20-year-old adult he was at the time he was killed during a gang fight.

*** end quote ***

# – # – # – # – #

I saw that commercial and just knew it was slanted.

Like the Trevon Martin coverage, the deceased is “spiffed up” for public consumption.

No one feel that every human death is in some way a “tragedy”.  One can’t be pro-life and not be frustrated by Gooferment policies that make unnecessary deaths a plague on the nation.

In this case, Bloomberg supports the “(pseudo) War on (some) Drugs”.  Just like (alcohol) Prohibition, it led to gang warfare with  killings.  Why anyone is surprised that the “drug” gangs are killing each other?

End the “(pseudo) War on (some) Drugs” and you won’t have a gun problem.  Just like Coke and Pepsi don’t shoot it out over shelf space, neither will the “drug gangs”.  (What does an out of work drug kingpin do?)

In fact let’s turn Walmart, Amazon, Walgreens, CVS, and your local pharmacist on the problem. “Illegal” drugs will be so cheap that no one will care.

And, all the money being wasted by the police, judicial system, and the prison system can be redirected to treatment.  After all, it is a medical problem.

Motorists who sound their horns too loudly now have to wait extra long at traffic lights | Daily Mail Online

Saturday, February 1, 2020

Motorists who sound their horns too loudly now have to wait extra long at traffic lights thanks to Mumbai police’s new weapon in war on honking drivers

  • The Punishing Signal sees red lights reset their countdown if drivers honk horns
  • Decibel readers were set up above traffic lights in Mumbai to read noise levels
  • If the reading goes above 85 decibels then the red light will reset

Source: Motorists who sound their horns too loudly now have to wait extra long at traffic lights | Daily Mail Online

That’s one approach that seems “fair”.

I want traffic lights that countdown to changing color.  It would make the “flow” on roads better and avoid a lot of indecision when you get “caught” in the no man’s zone.

Just my opinion.  After all they lights are basically the same since they were invented?
