It was a shocking movie. I knew about the scandal and some of how Cardinal Law escaped justice. I never anticipated the “6% of all”, “thousands of victims”, and all the deaths and disabilities. It’s a must watch for any Catholic. And, the institutional Church has a lot of explaining and atoning to do.

Should Nursing Homes Be a Government Service?

NANTUCKET, Mass.—The 11,000 year-round residents of this summer colony off Cape Cod are confronting an emotional question: whether the island is a place where they can grow old.

Nantucket now joins cities and towns from New Jersey to Tennessee in wondering whether nursing homes are an essential municipal service like fire, sewers and schools.

Financial pressures led New Jersey counties to sell their nursing homes to private companies, a move that saved some facilities, according to John Donnadio, executive director of the New Jersey Association of Counties. Only seven New Jersey counties still run nursing homes, down from 14 about five years ago, and “that number is going to drop more,” he said.

Why?

GOVEROTRAGEOUS: FDR knew about the Shoah

On June 1st, 1942, seven months after the extermination of prisoners began, the Warsaw underground newspaper, the Liberty Brigade, made the public announcement of the gassing of tens of thousands of Jews at Chelmno, a Nazi-operated death camp in Poland. The story came from a young man, Emanuel Ringelblum, who had escaped the Chelmno death camp after being forced to bury bodies as they were thrown out of the gas vans. The West now knew the horrific truth about the slaughter of Jews.

So why didn’t we bomb the railways?

And, why didn’t we catch all the Nazis?
