Google makes public service that gives consumers electronic medical record access

***Begin Quote***

NEW YORK (AP) — Google’s online filing cabinet for medical records opened to the public Monday, giving users instant electronic access to their health histories while reigniting privacy concerns.

Called Google Health, the service lets users link information from a handful of pharmacies and care providers, including Quest Diagnostics labs. Google plans to add more.

***End Quote***

Well, I’m singularly unimpressed. I signed up. Figured it would be good to track Frau Reinke’s medical exploits. It’s dumb. And a giant waste of time.

Unless they have more they are not showing, it’s a waste of electrons. Never mind privacy. It doesn’t even get into the batter’s box.

RANT: Bad ‘public transit’ why?

Sunday, May 18, 2008

http://www.bluejersey.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=7829

*[new] Bad ‘public transit’ why? (0.00 / 0)

May I take a stab at it?

First, it’s not ‘public transit’. It is a gooferment boondoggle to reward friends, punish enemies, and feather various politicians’ nests. Once you realize that it will all make sense. Based on that standard, it makes perfect sense. It delivers graft, jobs for supporters, and a ton of campaign issues to run on.

Want good ‘public transit’?

It’s easy. Just throw the gooferment out of it. Spin it out to the employees. Auction it off. Of best, give every taxpayer a share of stock in it. No regulations, no laws, no mucking about in any way by the gooferment.

Want it faster?

Eliminate all taxes on earnings from providing transportation services.

We’ll have all sorts of solutions, sizes, and shapes. Heck, with that type of incentives, I’ll go into supplying the public with transit.

Well, BLOGDESK doesn’t allow me to tag my Jasper Jottings posts with class year. I’d have to go into the blog on WordPress to add them. That’s too much like work. Soooo, maybe there’s a better tool?

LIBERTY: why the state should withhold the institution of marriage because of a couple’s sexual orientation

Gay marriage opponents vow to fight Calif. ruling
May 16 11:21 AM US/Eastern
By LISA LEFF Associated Press Writer

***Begin Quote***

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Even as same-sex couples across California begin making plans to tie the knot, opponents are redoubling their efforts to make sure wedding bells never ring for gay couples in the nation’s most populous state.

*** and ***

With a stroke of a pen Thursday, the Republican-dominated court swept away decades of tradition and said there was no legally justifiable reason why the state should withhold the institution of marriage because of a couple’s sexual orientation.

The 4-3 opinion written by Chief Justice Ronald George said domestic partnerships that provide many of the rights and benefits of matrimony are not enough.

“In contrast to earlier times, our state now recognizes that an individual’s capacity to establish a loving and long-term committed relationship with another person and responsibly to care for and raise children does not depend upon the individual’s sexual orientation,” George wrote for the majority in ringing language that delighted gay rights activists.

Gay marriage opponents, meanwhile, derided the ruling as an example of judicial overreaching in which the opinions of a few justices trumped the will of Californians.

The last time the state’s voters were asked to express their views on same-sex marriage at the ballot box was in 2000, the year after the Legislature enacted the first of a series of laws awarding spousal rights to domestic partners.

Proposition 22, which strengthened the state’s 1978 one-man, one-woman marriage law with the words “Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California,” passed with 61 percent of the vote.

The Supreme Court’s ruling Thursday struck down both statutes.

***End Quote***

With all due respect to all the passions involved, the State has NO BUSINESS in the regulating of marriage!

I have no more information. {Sargent Shultz says “I know nuthin, Nuting, Nothing at all”!} I put it all in the post. Writing me for more info is a waste of your time and mine.

If you’re interested, leave a blog comment with your name and email. I’ll either send you the contact info, or forward your info to them. Depending upon what they prefer. Either way, you’ll get something back from me.

Note: Don’t put your email in the comment itself unless you want spam from a trollbot. The comment form allows you to put your name, email, and website address.

You might want to include a link to a http://www.emurse.com/ resume or such similar site. I recommend making oneself easy to be found.

You might want to take time to write a short cover on it. You never know who reads these things. You might find your own lead from it (i.e., someone, looking to hire an X, finds me saying someone is looking for X, and ‘poaches’ all the people who responded.). YMMV

Good luck and good hunting.

Hello… Hal Dell here. I’m look for a resource to help with an interesting programming project. I need a consultant/programmer in North American that develops VB applications in ASP .NET 2.0 or greater for a Web Site Project plus the person needs to demonstrate the capability to programatically manipulate videos using the Windows Media API. For example if I have a multiple Videos I might want to to replace the audio track on every video with another track. If you don’t know of anyone directly please pass along my eMail address to your LinkedIn Network.

TECH WEBSITE: Click on this week’s link and get last week’s issue.

Sunday, May 11, 2008

Entertaining problem. Did Jasper Jottings this week as usual. Just under one hour. New issue up and pushed. Checked the JasperJottings website. New index is up. Click on this week’s link and get last week’s issue. Argh!

First thought is to blame Microsoft Word. Check the site’s web page the link is correct.

Second thought is it had to be 1and1’s problem. Call tech support. Got right through. Who has problems on Sunday morning. Nice lady confirms my stuff is right. (That’s a relief!)

She does some stuff. And, comes back to tell me my week 19 upload actually has week 18 in it. Huh?

So, very embarrassed, I ring off.

Word again?

So I cut ‘n’ paste to a new document. Upload.

Shazam, problem solved.

Elapsed time one hour!

Great productivity tool, Microsoft. Great one.

RANT: Name one government program that is a success?

Saturday, May 10, 2008

FROM A FORUM EXCHANGE

You probably want to believe in the FEMA myth too. It would be comforting. “I’m from the gooferment and I’m here to help” — help screw up your life worse than it already is.

Sorry, couldn’t resist.

I really do believe that, at the root of all human problems, our belief in government, the force that we give it and it wields against our fellow man, is our downfall as human beings. Like a mental disease. Like a parasite. Like a desert mirage.

When challenged, I always ask “Name one government program that is a success?” Bear in mind that buying a hammer for 5k$ is not a success. Effectiveness and efficiency. I have yet to hear of one.

Disclaimer: I stole this idea from the Free Talk Live podcast.

Arghhhhhh?

RANT: seeking “intelligent life” at the other end of the keyboard

Sunday, May 4, 2008

*** begin quote ***

Received your email seeking “intelligent life” at the other end of the keyboard. Pretty hard to find this in today’s society. I’ve become a cynic but I see remedial math and English courses for college freshmen, liberal thinking that says abortion and euthanasia is ok, 25% of high school female students having STDs, students in high school and college who believe they are entitled to a grade of A or B for just showing up, and other signs of entitlement and liberalism. You got me started!

*** end quote ***

I’m only a 68BEEE, (paid extra for that Electronics E), and agree with your assessment. I believe that a Secular Progressive fascist / socialist movement captured our education system. Horace Mann led the adoption of the Prussian education system in Massachusetts in the 1850s. It spread like wildfire. Mann is often considered “the father of American public education”. Unfortunately for us, and know to many of the then elite, the Prussian education system, which is virtually unchanged from its roots, was designed to make cannon fodder and factory workers that could be easily led by the elite. What you are reporting is the result of that remarkable German Engineering. And it ain’t a BMW. IMHO the American Catholic Church, and others rolled over and played dead. They let their children be kdnapped by a runaway State. Look to the European history of the great tension between Church and King. When the King oppressed, the people used the Church to balance. Liberalism once meant moving from an autocrat to a laize faire human rights society. When the elite looked at post-revolutionary America free, energetic, and uncontrolable, they “knew better”. Since then it has been a parade down to perdition. Government is a parasite on humanity. I can’t find one redeeming aspect of it. Now we are supposed to worship the godless State who provides all things. I thought the Communists lost the Cold War? Unfortunately the chickens will come home to roost, with dire consequences, for all of us. Maybe we won’t see the ‘fun’. I hope I won’t. History teaches us that those periods are very bad experiences.

WINXP: Lugable takes a holiday

Sunday, May 4, 2008

Thursday night, actually Friday wee hours, I couldn’t sleep; so I pounded out several reams of my best prose. It tired me out so I went back to bed. All happy and ready to sleep.

Friday 6AM, I close the lid and go to work. Like I’ve done for what feels like eons. I open up at work and screens black. No power. SO I power up and pouf the data fairy has taken that stuff and sent it to the bit bucket.

I wriggled on that hook for the day. Off and on. It was gone.

Mozy has been spinning cycles but it’s crap.

So I’m screwed … again. BY microsoft’s ‘productivity’ software.

If I ever buy another microdots product, kick me.

FUN: shouldas, couldas, and wouldas

Saturday, May 3, 2008

The shouldas, couldas, and wouldas will kill you.

“Should have” indicates remorse over the non-choice of an competing option. (I should have had a baked potatoe as opposed to the french fries I did have.)

“Could have” indicates remorse over a choice that wasn’t known to be available at decision time. (I didn’t know that baked sweet potatoes were an option.)

“Would have” indicates remorse over not being able to take subsequent choice which was precluded by an earlier decision. (If I hadn’t eaten so many french fries, I’d have had room for a slice of apple pie.)
