Microsoft rewrites them anytime they make a significant change. That seems anytime they feel like it. It’s annoying. It wastes time.

The Rutgers Libertarians had a lot of fun at our anti-drug war brownie giveaway. We got 120 individually-wrapped brownies from a wholesale club. To each of them we attached a pro-liberty message:
- You own yourself.
- You ALONE have the right to decide what to put in your body.
- The War on Drugs is harmful to the liberty and safety of people worldwide.
- The Libertarian Party has opposed drug prohibition since its founding.

I love it. I didn’t know that there were “L”s at RU. They better escape the “Pepuls Republik of Nu Jerzee” at their first opportunity. I’d suggest the Free State Project in NH.
TECH: GOOGLE SEARCH has a strategic flaw
Thursday, October 19, 2006When I went to look up an obit for a fellow alum, I wanted to find the funeral home’s site and see what it had to say. You can’t do it.
You get overwhelmed with sites that have stories that use their name, as well as, what I will call scraper sites that have created “listings”. Those so called listings don’t point to the underlying real site.
Hmmm?
JOBSEARCH: LinkedIn … could use some GIS … so why not LINKEDIN … ZIPCODE

LINKEDIN … ZIPCODE
Vincent,
As the Lord High Poobah of the LinkedIn XXX Yahoo Group genre, if you would like to create a LinkedInBYZipcode, LinkedIn08824, and LinkedIn08054. then I’d be happy to “help”. Consistent with the high standards I’ve seen in the three groups I frequent, I promise to (1) be kind to the clueless; (2) be firm with the rule breakers; and (3) obsessively thankful for you showing me how to get some value out of LinkedIn.
Respond if you think it’s a good idea. And, where can we get those snazzy linkedin badges.
?

This was sent to me by a friend who works at an advertising agency. They have a job opening in their research department, and they received this email cover letter along with a resume from someone applying for the job (I have removed the names and email addresses of the people involved, everything else is word for word):
<extra stuff deleted>
I’m able to use a computer (sending this email is proof) and I work well with others. Another one of the benefits I bring to the table is I never have a problem with customer service. I have returned many items with no to little questions asked. I must have one of those faces people trust. I don’t cook, so most of the meals I eat are cold, and raw… so sushi is cool too.

What a hoot! But, it’s probably fake. Everyone has spel chekers!
TECH: PRINTERALL has a small flaw
Thursday, October 19, 2006If you print a document and ask for multiple copies, then PRINTERALL only produces one copy.
Interesting.
TECH: You can “vampire” LINKEDIN …
Thursday, October 19, 2006My profile is on LinkedIn at:
http://www.linkedin.com/profile?viewProfile=&key=214231
…
if you want to play pick a new friend at random
…
Pick a number!
Put it at the end of the following string:
http://www.linkedin.com/profile?viewProfile=&key=
… and meet your new friend!
How long before a bot master discovers this and “sucks” linkedin dry.
Zoominfo did it with the public inet. Why couldn’t a bad guy do it with this “semi-private” data source?
FUN: Ebay is an interesting phenom

Wow… someone might just walk away with 1,000 guaranteed impressions of their printed ad on the backside of the upcoming bumpersticker for less than $27. That’s the current price of the FTL auction. That’s less than three cents per impression for a direct mail campaign that would normally cost hundreds if not over a thousand dollars!
If you were thinking about bidding, now is the time. Don’t miss out:

Thanks for listening,

On a lark, I bid. (I was not even sure what I’d have put on it. Probably “IluvFTL?”. ;-) I was immediately outbid by someone else’s maximum bid. Interesting concept. So by doing nothing, I got you more money. Strange. Like a poker game? Except if you bluff, and your opponent raises, you get to keep your chips. Weird. Strange. Unsettling.
ALUMNI: Alum from my defunct high school suggests a tontine
Thursday, October 19, 2006http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tontine
I first heard of the concept on MASH. When the fellow proposed it it seemed a suitable ending of an era in Catholic education.
Sadly.
LIBERTY: A great idea … if one could pull it off!

PRODUCTIVITY: WIN (What’s Important Now?!?)
Thursday, October 19, 2006I picked up a good productivity tip from the “younguns” at Free Talk Live. (The term “youngsters” seemed to torque their shorts a little when they read my email on their show.) In my daily commute, I listen to their FREE podcast. And, every so often, I mine a nugget. Here’s one.
Mark described his technique for deciding what to do do NEXT.
(That’s a problem I have with lots of urgent, important, trivial, nagging, projects, and processes that all compete for my time and attention. And, I have a job too.)
He described it as WIN – – – “What’s Important Now?”
Seems like a good approach to me. So now on each task switch, interrupt, or time out, I ask myself what is it?
Help’s me focus.
Capturing good stuff is important all the time. Hence this log entry. ;-) Excuse me, time to WIN!
