RANT: Time for the State Gooferment to tell the Federal Gooferment to MYOB

The highways are jammed with snarky road signs — and the feds don’t like it.

Killjoys at the Federal Highway Administration have reportedly ordered New Jersey officials to stop putting up cute and funny message boards with in-your-face safety warnings, such as: “Hold onto your butts — help prevent forest fires” and “Get your head out of your apps.”

The federal regulators came down with the ban on Wednesday, just about a month after New Jersey started putting the sassy missives up on programmable electronic signs around the Garden State’s many highways, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Time for a “national divorce”.

Remind me again why we have a  Federal Highway Administration in the first place.

RANT: GWB traffic yesterday

What a day for traffic yesterday at the George Washington Bridge?

I went on the express lanes, which was unusual. (Not that it would have made a lot of difference.)

I couldn’t get traffic reports on 880 because of the Yankee game. Did catch any on any of the other stations. (Were they broadcasting any?)

None of those expensive message boards were lit up. How much did they cost us to put in and operate? Or in this case NOT operate!

I sat without moving on Route 80 for 90 minutes. Without moving. OK a little bit. But I’ve never been mired in such traffic.

Wasted the better part of a day. Put me in a foul mood. And, no explanation. Argh!

The only guess I had was Homeland Security. That would account for the lack of information. Nothing was moving on any approach!
